Where to start ... 5 of us dropped in on a busy Friday evening to a full house and - according to the host - 30 minute wait. No problem. Saddled up to the bar and ordered up some margaritas. Bartender nice enough, margs were average, one served in a random mason jar for some reason, the others in pint glasses. No big deal. All down hill from there. 30-40 minutes passed and no word from the host. We asked, and asked, and asked ... despite three large EMPTY 6-top tables, we were given all sorts of answers/excuses. "Just a few more minutes." "I'm checking with the manager." "Sorry, I'm new here, I'll find out." "Do you have a reservation?" ... and on and on. Finally we were told we couldn't be seated at any of the large, empty tables ... our table (for some unknown, specific reason) was the one still filled with people and once cleared we would be seated. Another 30 minutes pass. Same excuses. Finally some manager seats us, apologizes, and we order drinks and food as soon as our waitress appeared. Fast forward another 45 minutes. No food. No answers. And apparently no clue how to run a restaurant. The after-hours rock band started loading in and were served nachos pretty quickly. I begged a waitress, will someone, ANYONE please bring us some food. "I'm sorry ... I'll check." Food finally arrives ... fish tacos were bland, burrito devoid of flavor as well, salads a mess of ingredients that looked like they were mixed in a blender. Manager ended up comp-ing the entire meal. Gave our stressed and unsupported waitress $10 and split. The entire operation seemed to lack any shred of organization and possibly cooks as well. We are huge fans of the original Diego's in Newport and could not have been more excited to see a location open up closer to us in Middletown. The venue is great, and it seems like it gets better each time we visit. Their menu is a little different from the Newport location, but there is plenty of great stuff to choose from. And, most importantly, they still have their delicious margaritas. My favorite is the blood orange. The staff is friendly and great. We will be coming here frequently! Why bother? Why bother serving lunch if there is going to be such a limited menu and an obvious lack of management? Just close and only serve dinner. I have never eaten a meal somewhere with staff who appeared to care so little about my experience. The only reason I am not giving one star is that the food was not that bad though I would not say it was great. My advice would be to grab a burrito for take out and know that it will be fair, or drive the extra mile to Newport and have a decent lunch with a decent menu served by staff who, at the very least, care about what they are doing. read more

Been a regular here for a few years. Usually a quick bite and cocktails with a friend or 2 and always tip well. Service has been lacking lately, and was really horrific this time. Bartender seemed miserable, argued with runner in front of myself and my friend about our order, we had to ask several times for cutlery and napkins ( ended up grabbing cocktail naps ourselves when nothing came), ignored us when drinks were empty and instead busied herself washing glassware. I get that its busy on the floor and drinks are a multistep process, but there is no excuse for general rudeness or ignoring bar patrons that are right in front of you. read more

My husband and I each ordered cocktails and it tasted like juice, not a hint of alcohol at all and they are EXPENSIVE! We just wanted an app and drinks so we got the queso. Y'all...it was the worst queso I've EVER had in my life. It tasted like warm white gravy with no seasoning or salt. Where was the cheese? Did they forget to add it in? The chorizo was literally flavorless. It was absolutely disgusting. Our waiter asked if we would like some salsa and we agreed hoping it would be flavorful and we could mix it into the queso but no. It tasted like tomato water. The workers here like I said were so sweet but the food, at least what we got, was awful. My husband and I don't get to go on dates often (we've got 4 kiddos and babysitters aren't cheap) so this was very disappointing on many facets. read more

First time going to Diego's. Reserved a table for two and arrived early and was seated at a table for 6. 2 chairs already taken. Our neighbors were very friendly. The noise level on the first floor was loud enough the screaming child behind us couldn't be heard. It was Thursday night before the crowds showed up and there's no noise dampening on the first floor. Took our waiter a bit to find us since he was training someone or possibly flirting. Once he did find us he was attentive. We received the 3 salsa and chips, great appetizer even it was bit overpriced at $9. We ordered 2 burritos and both of them came out fine and extremely tasty and filling. Overall, I'd go back. The night we were there it was rainy so the outside deck wasn't a wise choice. If it had been sunny we would've sat outside. We didn't see what was on the 2nd floor but I'm guessing more tables since 3 parties immediately upon siting down at their tables around us said no the noise is too loud and vanished up the stairs. read more

Definitely a great place for drinks and apps. Casual, had a nice large parking lot, and outdoor seating were a plus. Service was good and quick, prices were reasonable. The guacamole and pico de gallo were EXCELLENT! One of the best, freshest guacamoles I've had out. Salsa was pretty good but a little too liquidy. Meals were mediocre- not authentic Mexican food. Quesadilla was too thick and over stuffed with ground up chicken and beans, not too cheesy. Chicken tacos were ok. They chicken was a little overly salty and lacked a lot of flavor. read more

Stopped in for drinks and a bite to eat on Cinco de Mayo. Very busy, mostly 20's-30's crowd. Nice bar on 1st floor, though very loud, and they just opened 2nd floor bar and dining area, quieter. Nice views and i understand they have outdoor seating as well. Margaritas were good and it looks like they have a good handle on the bar side of things. Food not so much. Ordered nacho sampler which was average and fish tacos and beef tacos for dinner which were kinda bland and not very good. As a Mexican from California, this place was massively disappointing. This was not good Mexican food at all. The size of the burrito was not worth the price. The meat was dry, and a Cali burrito has fries, not chunks of potatoes. It was basically one-third potato. The quesadillas were sad, small, and flavorless. Is this an American fusion Mexican place? Then maybe it could make sense, but even then, the food was just not good. The server was great though. The margaritas were alright. Ordered online & picked up curbside tonight. Tl;dr: Order was brought out 20 minutes late w/ no explanation from the staff. Food was cold at that point and made for a very unpleasant meal. Details: So we called when we drove up and was told the order would be coming out. Wait for a while and 10 minutes pass, I think something might be wrong, so I call again and am told the order is coming out w/ some other pickup orders. Another 10 minutes go by, staff comes out to ask which order we're waiting for. I'm starting to get nervous because our baby is getting restless and we were supposed to be home at this point. Finally the food comes out - no explanation or apology for the delay. I can be very understanding of delays, mixups, adjusting to covid protocols, whatever, but I would just like to have some transparency so I can plan ahead accordingly. I could have gone home, put the baby to bed, and come back. Or at least not constantly looking out the window expecting the order to come out. I tried this place out on opening night as well as the following sunday for a group brunch. I love that this is a little distant from the downtown area and they have a parking lot and great view! Also love the renovations and use of space. The place was very packed on Friday evening but the bar is huge and we managed to get 2 seats there instead of waiting the 45 minute wait for a table. Service was quick, staff was friendly. We started with the Queso fundido - very good. it is served with 3 tortillas instead of chips which was interesting. My fiance had the steak with chimichuri sauce and yuca fries. I thouht the chimichuri sauce was very good! They didnt ask him how he wanted his steak cooked BUT they cooked it exactly how he likes it so #win. I had the pork tacos and it was very moist tender it flavorful. it came with 2 small sizes of slaw and pickled onions so the pickled onions were great addition to my tacos. My only ehh things is the prices are high, i dont love paying $12 for 2 small tacos and the steak was a bit small for $22 entree. BUT, for good mexican we're willing to do anything right? haha. It was a good fun experience. Sunday for brunch they had a special of chips with pulled pork over it, shaved jalapenos, picado, and 2 fried eggs. this was AMAZING. we asked her if she had it as we had seen it on instagram the day before and she did so we ordered it for the table to try. everyone loved it. they do have a limited menu at this location. i ordered the chourico quesadilla for bfast which was about half of a quesadilla for about $12 (again, pricing :( ). my fiance had that since he ordered the tamales and then wanted to switch. i love tamales and these were ok. very small amount of meet in them but came with rice and beans on the plate so basically plate full of carbs haha. Hmm. Oddly placed little take-out location. No seating. Food is good, limited menu. Parking is odd- hence the 3 stars. I was coming from a doctors appointment and popped in for a quick taco. Maybe this is more of a walk-up as opposed to a drive up, I don't know the area well enough to say. I have been to the main restaurant and it is very good. THE best fish tacos!! You won't be disappointed! Everything was portioned perfectly. Also- the staff was incredible. I know these are challenging times to everyone, but it feels like they took it as an opportunity to get to know their customers more and make it a more personal experience (social distancing between tables and everything spaced out). The gentlemen there (I think his name is Andrew) also insisted on us getting a booth because we have two young children, which never happens! It was awesome someone was actually thinking of our kids and what would be most comfortable to them. The staff was wonderful!
