Since finding this somewhat hidden gem, DiLeo's Pizzeria in Elmhurst, I've been singing their praises ever since. It's not only the customer service, the fast delivery or even the menu. It's that they do everything by hand, scratch made with the food. I'll give you a "for instance". First, most "side salads" with other restaurants are an after thought. They toss one in as a door prize. DiLeo's includes a Dinner Salad with many entree items and a great deal of care goes into those salads. Today I went to the restaurant to get a pair of dinner salads for lunch. Like you, I thought they'd go to one of their refrigerators and pull out two dinner salads. After all, who's going to take the time to assemble two small salads? Surely there's a day designated to make all the Dinner Salads for the week to fill that week's orders, right? Wouldn't that be easier, to factory line assemble forty salads? Not at DiLeo's. I waited while they built my salads by hand and it's not just the salads. Everything they do is the same way, from the fresh soups to the handmade pastas. Try the ribs, burgers or a ribeye steak sandwich on garlic bread, (and always include an order of their garlic bread)! There's been a pizza place on Spring Road since the sixties. They do carry out and pizza delivery and have a dining room and outside area. Their cracker crust skimpy pizzas and high prices astound me. I live several blocks away, but delight in driving by to head to a true pizzeria. I had to try them one more time and ordered a very high priced steak. I'm not a chef, but I know you're supposed to season a steak prior to cooking and then let that meat "rest" when finished. I worry when a chef is afraid to salt and pepper a dish and I ended up with a bland, somewhat over cooked mid-rare steak. My advice? One week, on the night you order out, put down that Spring Road place and order that next pizza from DiLeo's. You'll never go back, guaranteed. Of course, you won't be able to park your Ferrari in front of the establishment, but you'll get over it . . . read more

I was sad when I moved away... we recently bought a house in Oak Brook and my husband and I get it all the time. This is my 5th time here I must be a glutton for punishment , Arriabiatta is spiced with jalepeno not red chili or red pepper flakes , Alfredo is bland as it gets , rigatoni and penne are the same noodle here , Italian sausage is horrible tasting , the garlic bread is unlike any that I've ever had , and not in a good way , just butter and slices of garlic I think the only decent thing here is the chicken and smashed potatoes read more

When driving down Butterfield road one Friday evening I noticed a Vienna beef sign in the window of a pizzeria. I changed lanes, doubled back and soon found myself at Di Leos Pizzeria in Elmhurst. Upon walking in I noticed a few tables set up to eat at, an order counter, and a very busy staff behind the counter that were answering phones and preparing orders. I inquired about the advertised hot dog, paid and soon was sitting waiting to give this dog a try. The hot dog I received came on a classic poppy seed bun. The bun was soft and quite mushy and fell apart very shortly after I attempted to pick this hot dog up. This hot dog had a giant pickle spear on it. Two very thick sloppy wet tomato slices, about six hot dogs worth of sliced onions, cucumber slices, sport peppers, some other unidentifiable peppers, mustard and relish. Almost everything was applied in excess, as mentioned before almost immediately after picking this hot dog up it fell apart in my hands. I've never seen such a messy hot dog in my entire life. I did manage to consume it leaving a salad worth of condiments behind. While I can't comment on their pizza, the hot dog I received at Di Leos was quite frankly awful. I can't complain at all about the service. The owner lady was super nice. But, as my reviews go, I prefer to focus on the food. We ordered a pizza with Canadian bacon and pineapple. I know, I get hassled about it, but that's my favorite. Anyway, the pizza was a bit ... I would say ... soggy. I guess I've never heard anyone describe a pizza that way, but the middle of it just wasn't done. Don't say it's the pineapple, because I order pizzas this way all the time. In addition, and I don't know how to tactfully write this, but it had a funky aftertaste. It wasn't that bad, but I wouldn't order it again. On the other hand, I've been at friend's parties when they've catered from this restaurant and I thought the food was really good. So, my advice might be to try something other than the pizza and see if you like it. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. I spent the weekend in Oak Brook and had the nicest experience. One of those, of note, was DiLeo's Pizzeria. We all know you're taking a chance on pizza in the entire Chicagoland area, if you don't already know the spot. Boy did we luck out. True, very few Gluten Free selections, however, I was still able to get a good meal. I initially had trouble ordering online, when I called in, the nicest woman was on the line. She didn't know me from Adam, but she took a lot of time patiently explaining the menu and which I should avoid. She finished by reminding me to get my refund from GrubHub (good looking out). We cater from here every year for a party. Usually it's been fine, but this year was disappointing. They forgot to bring the bread for the beef sandwiches. Had to wait for the delivery driver to go and buy some bread at the grocery store and come back. When I went to sign the receipt and add the tip, the total was more than I was told it would be when I spoke to them on the phone the day prior. They said it was a service charge for utensils that I did not even recieve with the order, nor did I even ask for. I committed the unlawful sin of ordering a BBQ BEEF SANDWICH at a pizzeria, "that's not my bag, baby " - Austin Powers BBQ BEEF SANDWICH which came with a side of cold, soggy fries, a side of slaw, and a cup of bbq sauce in case you get thirsty, I guess. Just stumbled on this gem of a place. Crazy big jumbo slices of pizza that come with a fountain drink. One of the cheapest lunch options around. The real winner of the menu is their fried chicken. I'm not a huge fan of fried chicken but if it's good then it's worth the calories to indulge. This is the best fried chicken in the Midwest. It kills Harolds and it's perfectly crispy and nice and moist on the inside. I daydream about this amazing chicken and even have dreams about the next time I can get my hands on it. Ordered the Mother's Day package for a 5:30 pick-up based on a recommendation from a neighbor who is related to the owners. The package sounded really great for the money. I decided to cancel the order after waiting for forty-five minutes and their not being able to tell me when my order would be ready. They were very busy and some of the other customers seemed to not understand social distancing or the need for face masks so I spent most of that waiting time outside. There were as many as ten of us waiting at any one time in a very confined space. If I could give this dirty mop smelling hole in the wall sorry excuse for a restaurant I would. This was my 5th time visiting this establishment and let me tell you now...STAY AWAY I called in a pickup order as usual for a chopped salad lunch special and a water......my usual.... The drink is "free" or it's advertised that way So I ordered my lunch and the person taking my order as always told me to simply ask him for my drunk(water) when I got there So I get there pay for my food and when the man who took my order went to hand me a bottle of water and the "manager/owner" yelled "no" at him and handed me a fountain drink cup. Again I asked for water and he told me "get it out of the machine" When I questioned him about it he became irate and literally started yelling at me that I was gonna put him out of business I walked out and told him I would never be back and he yelled out the door "GET THE **** OUT OF HERE" Real professional and customer service HAAAAA!!! I have never posted a review for anything but DiLeo's is still our family's favorite, we appreciate them. Been consistently ordering from here 20+ yrs and never disappointed. The menu suits every picky family member whether it's for 4 or 60. Everything we've tried (almost entire menu), tastes as if you ordered it from a well known sit down restaurant or much better. All items, from their pizza/chicken and pastas down to the soups/burgers/sandwiches etc are always perfect. Customer service/orders/deliveries never present with any issue. Catering is always awesome, many options available and they actually pay attention to what your event needs are. Lol, I write this because when we asked each other "what do YOU want for dinner tonight",...my daughter said... Very detailed menu with lots of variety. I always get friendly service even when they're busy. They make a great large salad with hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, and lots of olives. It's hard not to feel stuffed after a sandwich or pasta order. You can't really go wrong here. As the other reviewer noted, there are a couple tables if you need to plop down and eat on the spot, but 95% or more of their business is take-out. The place looks like it used to be a Little Caesar's. My fam gets the catering special with salad,mostaccoli,fried chicken,garlic bread and pizza bread. I hate to steal Payless' sale slogan from the mid 90's but, $9.99 are you outta your mind? Its located in a strip mall on the east side of the Jewel. At 12:30 on a Friday, there were a good 6-7 people occupying the 3 small tables, waiting for their food. Right away, I thought it was pretty kool to see the same big thick-haired guy and lady on their website in person. An older lady took my order and the whole time it felt like I was talking to my own aunt. And I really did get a family ran business vibe just from the looks of them in the kitchen, even if the family pictures from their ski trip on the left wall were a dead giveaway. 25 minutes later, my pizza was ready and off I went. I've patronized a lot of pizzeria's so I know a good pizza by its looks and this one looked pretty freakin good. The theory that a place with really cheap deals is also cheap in quality was proven wrong here. The crust was crispy, ever so slightly burnt in some places, cheese was thick and tasty and my bacon obviously wasn't from a container of Bac-O's, it was actually pretty thick and of premium quality. New to Elmhurst and told this was a must try. Have enjoyed their pizza and wings for pizza night at home. Then they really shinned for me when I needed them! We had friends with kids over for dinner. Ordered a variety of foods and we ate well family style. Also had a party with about 20-25 guests and again ordered Chicken, Pasta, Pizza, and Salad...each one was excellent. The chicken had great flavor. The pasta was not your boaring noodle and red sauce but was also well seasoned. The salad...WOW! and the pizza good also. They threw in a case of pop which is always a great thing on party night. I am so pleased with the help I received on the phone when ordering and the final product that they are now our party staple. It has taken well over an hour and a half for me to get a delivery of something as basic as a pizza and salad, and they never give me the right salad dressing. I don't usually post because I place a lot of orders with them but my goodness today just impressed me so much. I had asked that DiLeo's deliver my food in today's order hot or at least warm. The last couple of times, my favorite chicken tenders...........by the way they have the best ones yet.........were a bit lukewarm. They did replace the food the last time because they're always trying to become better each time. Fifteen minutes after walking away from my desk, the delivery person sent me a text and said that she had arrived. I don't think it has ever been that fast!!!! I must say the food was hot........not even warm but hot. I was blown away and it confirmed why DiLeo's is usually my first choice for lunch.
