I got the crispy garlic spare ribs, pork and chive steamed dumplings and the Shanghai fried rice with added chicken. The crispy spare ribs were a bit over cooked but tasted good. The dumplings were so salty I couldn't finish them. I mean very salty. The fried rice was basically yellow rice with 0 taste and the chicken they added was off putting to say the least. It had a strange taste that I cannot describe. It was chewy and it did NOT look appealing either. Needless to say I am upset I spent $34 for mediocre fare. This is a new spot that just opened up within the past few days. went in and saw that all of the items were clean. got the dim sum which was great and freshly steam in front of us got the scallion pancakes and those were crunchy and not oily at all which was great. additionally also got the chicken fried rice which was light and not oily either. the sauces that came on the side which was soy sauce and hot oil were great when added to the food. they have two sets of menus and it seems they are training the staff but overall i was satified and happy with the food, read more

Pretty solid dim sum spot in FiDi; I thought it was cool that for a party of 8 people, they gave us a private room with a rotating tray. The food was quite alright - I think I preferred the mains here (eggplant with garlic sauce) over the dim sum ordered (scallion pancakes, dumplings, etc.) but that's probably just personal preference. My favorite dim sum item was the cucumbers in sweet & spicy sauce; I'd order that again. Pretty affordable (~20-25$ pp) so I think it's a good option for a group meal, but wouldn't rush back on my own. read more

I really wanted to love this place I will be back to try again because I did show up just at closing and they still served me. They do have a full bar FYI. I was happy when I saw this new dim sum restaurant under construction during the last few months. Usually, I travel to Chinatown Manhattan or Flushing when I want good Chinese food. There is virtually nothing in Lower Manhattan that is acceptable. So it was interesting that Dim Sum Palace appeared to be a "modern style" Chinese restaurant that, in least in appearance, promised to have reasonably authentic and tasty Chinese food. I went in with my son to order some food to take out. (First of all, this is not an actual "dim sum" place where they come around with carts and you can select what you want. Everything is a separate order.) I ordered congee with century egg and pork, pork and chive dumplings, beef chow fun, duck spring rolls and my son wanted noodles with sesame sauce. The total came to $58, which was already quite a bit more than it would have been in Chinatown. My verdict on the food - Extremely mediocre, bordering on inedible. Of course, I should have been forewarned when I saw the dining room had only non-Chinese customers, but I had hopes that there was a decent place near me, so I persevered. 1) The congee was inedible at $8.95. It tasted old. There were only tiny flecks of pork and century egg in it, just watery rice soup with hardly any pork or egg, very chintzy, and it had a weird taste. It was also off-color. I had a few spoonfuls and threw it out. I was afraid to consume it. 2) Pork and chive dumplings were barely OK, but it was a tiny portion for $6.50. No thanks, not again. 3) Sesame cold noodle for $9.95 was thick, udon type noodles with a ultra sweet sauce. There were also tomatoes which did not belong there. Again, I felt gypped and couldn't finish it. Not really what I usually order but I expected it to be better from a restaurant that takes pride in what they are cooking. 4) Beef Chow Fun for $18.95 was more expensive than in Chinatown. It was OK. Small pieces of beef and small portion, with an acceptable "breath of the wok". It was the only thing we ordered that was OK, which is faint praise. On a scale of one to ten I would rate it a "5". 5) Duck Spring rolls were absolutely disgusting. I could not find any duck in them, just a greasy wrapper for $6.95. I don't know what was in the filling but it tasted like pure grease and no duck that I could discern inside. So it's a no-go for me. If I want good Chinese food, I'll continue to make the trek to Chinatown. This place looks the part but it's all sizzle and no steak. I suppose if their target audience is non-Chinese people in FIDI the ignorant masses will be pleased. I will not return. I suppose I am being over critical, but any Chinese restaurant which does not have Chinese customers is certain to be bad, unless it is specifically "American-style Chinese", which is a whole different genre of food. The food here is a simulacrum of Chinese food, which aspires to look like authentic dishes, but is, in fact, food aimed at Western customers at high price points. If this is you, and you are happy when you order "chicken fried rice", "sesame chicken" or "General Tso's Chicken" when you crave "Chinese food", you might be happy here because you don't know the difference of what Cantonese food is supposed to taste like. So this new restaurant will probably do OK in this location catering to uncultured bozos with uneducated palates. I suppose Dim Sum Palace knows their target audience since they are part of a chain and they correctly aim their marketing at such people. I'll cut this off here. If you are happy eating here, you are lucky, you are easy to please. read more

Pros: Only local Chinese restaurant in this area of FiDi, great addition! Open restaurant, with tons of comfortable seating. Got 4 different dumplings to start, they were fantastic and fresh. Got the sesame chicken for the main, probably one of the best sesame chickens I have in NYC (holds to Joe's Shanghai!) which is really impressive. Cons: Very bright, almost too much so. They are still figuring out their service strategy. Our waiter made mistakes with our order, did not bring out rice, etc. Overall, a solid place with some tasty dishes but room for improvement in service. I should have written this review a few months ago, but better late than never. My daughter had her small wedding reception at this restaurant, the one on William Street in N.Y.C. To say that the food the staff were incredible is an understatement. The food was absolutely amazing and fresh and all 32 people who attended were raving about the food all night . Let me run down all the wonderful menu items we ordered which were all amazing . Peking Duck , eggplant with spicy garlic sauce ,New York Steak with BBQ honey sauce , Deshell Lobster with fried rice, steamed live bass General Tsao's chicken, to name a few and everything was superb! I also cannot say enough kind words for the staff they were great so attentive and so genuinely helpful. They made everyone feel like very welcome and they made my daughter's wedding reception a very memorable night for sure! New dim sum place in downtown. They open at 11, so if you get there earlier you can go next door for take out. Same menu. I think you can get breakfast there too in the morning. We got a pot of chrysanthemum tea for $8, pricier than other places but given that this is downtown..I guess is to be expected.. they gave us a menu to place our order. We ticked the dishes we wanted and got our order quickly. The first dish was our favorite - cilantro rice crepe - this was delicious with a perfect chewy consistency. My only complaint is that the waiter took our dishes right after we took the crepe and we wanted the sweet soy sauce and the gailan (vegetables) that came with the plate. We got distracted as another waiter was bringing the other dim sum. He took it so fast, wished he had ask if we were finished. The black truffle shrimp dumpling was $13 - the skin was good and we can taste a hint of truffle - the shrimp was nicely cooked and crunchy but probably will order the regular next time. The other three dumplings were ok, roasted duck one was a bit oily. The skins on the dumplings were translucent on the tinted side - more used to a off white from other dim sum places. The green tea mochi had black sesame paste inside which was tasty. The bun with taro and salty egg was good, filling of taro was generous. Overall a nice place to have dim sum if you want to avoid the craziness of Chinatown. $60 for about 8 dishes. We will try the noodle stuff the next time. read more

I work in FiDi and I am SO HAPPY this dim sum spot opened up. Food was super fresh and delicious. I ordered right before noon and food was ready within 5 min. I got the congee with pork and egg. I think it's only one size when you order from the take out section and it's a large container. Mix your congee with chili oil and it's just chef's kiss!! The steamed shrimp dumplings were delicious too. Love that I can just walk here to pick up dim sum rather than delivery/uber eats from a spot in Chinatown. Avoid this location at all cost. I ordered Shu Mai and stated to eat it and the pork is raw. I ordered food here a few weeks ago and I got home and realize that they did not fill the whole order - there's something very disconnected with this particular location. I am hoping I do not get sick from this raw pork or else I will be taking legal action. Awful service. Got here an hour before closing time and the staff were incredibly rude and appeared bothered by our presence. Called beforehand to make sure it was okay to stop by and they were fine with it so we were confused as to why they had such negative attitudes. Once we were going to pay the server, the person who I assume was in charge hovered over us to make sure we would leave a tip. Once we left the tip, they demanded 18%, yes demanded 18%! We had left 15% which I assumed was the standard but I guess not to them. They then argued with us about leaving more which was the last straw. If you're going to have the audacity to ask for more gratuity, at least have the best service to back that up. Seriously, I don't recommend it here. There was also a hair in our low-mein and we didn't complain about that but I guess I'll state this in this review. read more

The foods (Black Truffle Shrimp Dumpling, Abalone Shumai, Seafood Rice Roll, Singapore Mei Fun, Chicken Feet, Roast Pork Bun) are all well made and tasty. The ingredients are fresh and portions are big! Roast Duck Dumpling is the only dish that could be better with thinner skin wrap instead of the thick gluey one! If I could give zero, I would. Hair found in the lo mein. Service was trash. We were going to leave a cash tip, so when the waiter noticed we selected "No Tip" for the card we used to pay he then threw the card on the table. The manager then stood over our table waiting for us to leave a tip. Terrible service and etiquette. We still left something out of courtesy even if we wanted to leave nothing. The didn't serve us. All they did was bring what we ordered and tell us that it was last call each time they came to the table. Before even getting up, the "manager" grabbed the cash to count it, then proceeded to tell us the "culture" is 18%. He said "did we not serve you?!" "Did we not stay open late for you!?" When in reality, i called asking when they closed and whoever answered said they close at 11 and the kitchen closed at 10:30 - we showed up by 10 and ordered by 10:10 latest because they told us at least twice it was last call. Change your hours if this is how you treat customers showing up in the last hour. Actually, just close down. Your food was mediocre at best - pork buns were trash, orange chicken from the frozen section, I'm sure. After everything, I would maybe go as far to say the lo mein was fine if it wasn't for the HAIR found in it. When the manager realized they were in the wrong, then they wanted to rush us out and yelled "don't come back". They don't have to worry about that. read more
