I love the attentiveness of the front counter staff and the energy the team exudes in its effort to please the customer. Such positive service leads to return business! Well, now I am feeling the era of restaurants is changing. It's not about the food quality or being the best small restaurant, it putting in technology and making the food come fast so a table can turn and get New Business, that's a shame, Dimsum Palace is no palace, and Dim Sum was mediocre. The price are high for what ìt was. 2 main items we wanted were out of stock and this is Mother's Day weekend. Waiter were abundant but they weren't being attentive because they weren't actuaĺing reading the Patronen needs, it was like a lot of Flash just swarming around but my water nèded falling and we were not asked how was everything. Dishes were medium to small in size and for $6-$8 a small dish not a good value. I had a issue with a dish the pork buns they were oversteamed and the manager said they never are. I have eaten buns all over Asia and they were. The manager I don't believe had any training in the culinary business and came off as insulting. He need's training in the culture and his mannerisms. He seemed arrogant but I don't think he was, he just acted that way The tero cake needed a sweet soy sauce. TheTofu skinny with veg were dark and tofu skins are normally tan. I drink water and no one refilled and that is service not just taking food out when it comes up. We were there 6 -7 and restaurant was about 1/2 full. I am giving it 3 out of 5 because it is my first time, it my experience doesn't change on my.second visit I will change my rating to 2 and not come back. Fast and efficient. When we got there on a Saturday afternoon at 12:30, I could see a line of people waiting for a table. But there was someone with a notebook taking down names. Still I thought, it'll be a long wait since I needed a table for 6. Surprisingly, it wasn't that long, maybe 15 minutes. It may have just been luck because I was standing right in front of the person calling out names and there was someone who wanted a table for 5 but because no one came forward, she came to my name and I said yep! we're here! Decor and ambiance was nice but due to the lack of sound dampening in the place, you have to speak with raised voices. That is the one thing I hate about dining establishments. Hence the drop in one star. Otherwise, food was authentic and very good. Some items you have to request and it may taken 20 minutes so get your orders in early if the first round of carts that come by do not have what you want. There was definitely a good variety of dim sum items that I know and love. I hope this place continue to do well because there are not that many dim sum places in the area. read more

Great Dimsum place! It has some unique modern twist on some of the regular Dimsum items like Ha kaw. They have a version of it called black truffle Ha Kaw. They also have some great entrees and soup dishes. If you regularly have Dimsum and looking for some new variety of dishes, definitely a must try. read more

Coming from Hong Kong, my human never expected much from Chinese restaurants here in the US, but Maryland has continued to surprise with him with its authentic Cantonese offerings, and Dimsum Palace (despite the Americanized name) hits the mark! 1) The black truffle Har Gao (shrimp dumplings) was excellent and a fun twist on a classic! We liked this more than the classic version, also partially because I'm a fancy cat *meow*. 2) The seafood Siu Mai was bursting full of shrimp - much preferred over the usually very fatty pork filling. 3) Their fried taro dim sum (with a minced pork filling) was also wonderful and reminded him perfectly of home: crispy and non-oily on the outside, soft taro and gooey pork filling on the inside. My human likes taro so much that he named me after this yummy root vegetable. The rest of the dim sum from their sticky rice, crystal dumplings, XO fried noodles, etc. were also solid choices. While this is not the cheapest Chinese restaurant around, its prices were reasonable and the quality (and authenticity) of the food, attentive service, and modern and roomy ambiance more than made up for it. Had another great dim sum experience today- this place is legit! I loved the dumplings they are fresh and full of flavor- shrimp and chive dumpling was delicious!! Their bakery items are also super good- pineapple bun and egg tart and Portuguese egg tart are one of the best I have had! Place is large and clean and service attentive! Thank goodness we discovered Dimsum Palace by chance. We used to drive all the way to Montgomery County just to get good dim sum and now, we don't have to. This place is IT for the dim sum. We love that we always get our food hot because there is good turnover. The lines outside the restaurant is a good indication; when people are willing to wait for a long time for good dim sum, then you know you're at the right place. So happy there's finally a good dimsum place in the area! Excellent, fast service with all the traditional dimsum offerings you'd expect. We took the kids to Dimsum Palace on a weekday afternoon. Maybe that's why the food selection was so limited. I was disappointed by the lack of a lot of traditional dimsum treats I had come to expect from the other places I visited, and how the kids walked away from their first dimsum experience less than impressed. Catonsville has dim sum! And Dimsum Palace does tea carts every day from 11-3, except for Tuesday when they're closed. In our group of 4 we had ABCs me (3rd gen), my mom, and my brother, and my caucasian husband. We picked up some classic favorites like har gow (shrimp dumplings), sui mai (basically a meatball in a wonton), and my personal favorite, wu gok (taro crescents) just to get started, and carts kept coming by and we kept pointing and eating. Dimsum Palace also does some serious upgrades on some classics, like a truffle shrimp dumpling, but we mostly kept it simple. It takes a lot to impress my mom, whose mom was beyond great at making dim sum, and she picked up a menu on the way out and was sharing it with friends she talked to all weekend. Hubs ordered a plate of char siu (bbq pork) and my brother, who is much more of a chinese menu type than a dim sum type, went with his standby, HK style pan fried noodles. The "small" size level seemed pricy when we looked at the menu online but the pieces were sizable; I'd say it's well priced for what you get, and the sizes step up in price appropriately. read more

Excellent sweet dim sum items, passable others -- good for this area! The greater Baltimore area desperately needs more places like this. Dim Sum Palace has a nice and bright ambiance. The service is prompt and friendly. It's a pushcart kind of place, so even if you cannot verbally communicate, you can point and choose. They carry all the usual favorites (turnip cake, shu-mais, cha-shao-baos, a variety of dumplings, rice noodles, etc.) Compared to dim sum places in NYC or LA, their savory dishes do not shine, but they are not bad. I thought they are only slightly worse than Da Hong Bao in DC (their nearest competitor for my dim sum funds). Their sweet dim sum dishes, on the other hand, can rival any dim sum place I've been. I love their mango pudding, which tasted of actual mango flavor. Their egg custard is eggy with flaky crust. The glutinous rice sesame balls have the right chew and not overly sweet. We have been here twice, once for dim sum and once for dinner. It can be busy, so be prepared to wait if you get there during a busy time. However, both experiences were great. The servers were friendly and efficient, the food was delicious, and I cannot stop thinking about that salt and pepper shrimp dish, absolute perfection. They also do traditional dim sum with the carts going around the room, which was a lot of fun and actually my first time experiencing it with the carts! (I've only had it where it's been a list you mark off and give to your waiter). It was a little overwhelming because we didn't always know what all the dishes were (although they explained if you asked), but it was a lot of fun and I'd totally go back for dim sum here anytime. It made up for the service. Hands down, excellent authentic cantonese DS -- since Oriental East closed its doors in Silver Spring yrs ago I haven't had any comparable DS until now! We tried quite a few of our fav DS dishes. Stuffed eggplant was hot & fresh, baked pork buns had the right amount of bbq sauce/pork ratio & the bun was pillowy soft, chicken feet and spare ribs were steamed to perfection, Portuguese egg tart - filling was silky smooth. We loved every dish we tried. It is on the pricey side for DS in the DMV area. Tiered system ranging from small dish $5.25 to kitchen special $11.50 per dish. I ordered a few things and while i was waiting for my food i had a gentleman walk to my table and offered me 4 different plates and asked to try. I picked up two plates thinking that since its a new place they were offering the food to try. When I recieved my check i was charged for both of those things that were offered to me without letting me know that i will be paying for them. Turnip XOXO special - lukewarm not crispy. regular fried turnip - again luke warm, not crispy. Hargow was hot and decent. Shrimp sui mai - hot, bland. Shrimp rolls - best dish we got. Shou Mei would be better but you can't please everyone. 4.5/5 Now for the not-great. -- I understand it's good to keep employees working, but the place was pretty empty and yall didn't need to swarm us. We hadn't even sat down and 2 carts came rolling up pushing items on us. The manager(?) kept hovering around and asking how we were doing and just watching us eat. In fact everyone was watching us eat. The waitress kept coming by to just say hello, in between watching us eat. We had just enough time to take three bites and someone would roll by with the same cart with the same items. -- I'm not fond of the way the check was presented (open face and laying in the middle of the table instead of just placed discreetly near the side, nor of the way the waitress swooped in as soon as it the credit card slip was signed. Overall we just felt rushed to leave the place even though there were only 2 tables of customers there at the time and plenty of time before they closed. I've worked in Chinese restaurants and my advice to the owner is to chill out about employees' having some down time. We are not emperors, we don't need 20 staff hovering over our every single bite. We just want to chill out and yum cha. Read the room - if we're just eating, there's no need for 3 of you to come over successively and ask if we're doing okay. More professionalism and less just-look-like-you're-doing-something. Last item that will be controversial is the prices. Two of us and the cost for us to eat enough to feel full (we're not big!) would be around $75+. That just seems like an awful lot. Ambiance is pretty nice here. Large room with many tables for sitting. It gets busy here really fast, so be sure to come early or be willing to wait. The servers are quite attentive for the most part. They have some typical dim sum fare here, but also some slightly higher end items. We had a truffle ha gow (shrimp dumpling) for example, though honestly i didn't think it was worth the additional cost. Dim sum carts come around fairly regularly, and do seem to get refilled fairly quickly. Pineapple buns were really good. Fun Guo was excellent. Steamed spare ribs were great too. The prices/value for some items seemed high for what you got, such as the soy sauce noodles from the cart. For the "special" items on the cart, these were on the order of $13 (?) or so, and but what you got was fairly small. Though, to be fair, it does take a lot of skill to make this kind of stuff, so just remember you're paying for that skill and experience too. So, I can't say it isn't a fair price (skills mean a lot! -- you can't just go to a random place and get dim sum), but from a stomach filling point of view, it didn't quite hit the mark. As a family of four (two adults and two ~11 yrs old) we ended up spending close to $80 before tip, and we didn't feel full at all ... like we needed to order at least 50% more to feel satisfied. That would be quite a bill, so we decided it was a good time to stop. Overall ... probably between 3 and 4 stars. I'll give 4 for now, and re-evaulate the next time I come back. Food was pretty good though. Value is a hard to judge ... i don't want to undersell skill (food as good), but it was disappointing to leave feeling my money wasn't getting very far.
