This restaurant has the most terrible service I have experienced ever. We are a 10 people group with kids. We walked in and joined the wairing list with a big table. The waiter told us we need to wait for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, we asked the waiter politely if we can split to two tables to save some time. Then we were told, "NO, you cannot split, but you can just GO." We we're surprised and said "we don't want to go and we never mentioned we want to leave." Then the manager very rudely told us: "We don't want to serve you. Please leave!" They we're so rude to customer even in front of little kids. I cannot imagine the service is as bad as this way. The veggie dishes were on point at this location. For me, I would not prefer their bbq dishes but the other menus like, orange chicken, crispy fried pork, anything that comes with frying and sauced are super good. Well balanced with seasoning, dishes were not overly salty or overcome with too much of seasons empowering. Decent pricing value too. I would love to try their seafood menus next time I visit with my fellows! Recommendation: try their one of veggie dish. Ask them what is in season or in good conditioned veggie ingredients. I tried the baby bok choy (originally wanted water spinach but it wasn't in good season), it was super good. I worked in Hong Kong for over five years and can verify Din Ho as the most authentic Hong Kong style restaurant in Austin. We ordered the orange chicken, beef flat noodles, and combination fried rice. The food was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. The chicken was pan fried with a nice and light crisp. The beef flat noodles had a light char, which gave it a subtle smoky flavor. My family and I really enjoyed the food and highly recommend this place for authentic Chinese food. After all these years since I have not eaten at Din Ho Chinese BBQ, but Din Ho is still cooking up a storm and providing all the flavor profiles of what I love and miss in traditional Chinese dishes. I had ordered N1. Combo Pan Fried Noodle , S6. Crab Meat Asparagus Soup, and 1. Beijing Duck. The combo pan fried noodle was super crispy (yummmmm!) .... even after the sauce and meat is on it. There was shrimp, Chinese bbq pork, roasted pork, and vegetables in this dish. The sauce was thick, seasoned well and not salty. It was perfect with the crispy noodles! The Crab Meat Asparagus Soup was SOOOOOO FREAKING GOOD!! The developed flavor in this soup is Michelin star worthy! There is real crab meat in it, ribboned soft egg white, and white asparagus. I want to have this soup every day! The Beijing Duck was well seasoned and juicy! The skin was not crispy but the duck was jam packed with bold flavors! The whole Beijing duck comes with quite a bit of meat, buns, and hoisin sauce. All of the dishes were stars on its own and I definitely recommend these dishes to try! Will I be coming back to Din Ho? Roast duck was undercooked and still reddish in quite a few pieces. It was also one of the worst tasting ducks I've ever had. All I can taste is how salty and bland it was. They need to stop skimping on the marinade and spices if they want to charge that much for duck. read more

Ordered three dishes here: seafood soup, chicken stir fry and seafood stir fry. All of them were decent in taste and the seafood/meat was good. The only gripe I have, albeit a big one, was that the dishes were 85% vegetables. It was also the exact same vegetables used in the three dishes. Overall this makes it feel totally not worth to pay a regular dishes price for what is seemingly just vegetables and 3 pieces of meat. Perhaps the right call here was to just get the BBQ meat with rice. As my experience was however, I would not recommend getting the other dishes. read more

But they have stopped using them (even though they have NOT updated the web site to let you know). I called to inquire and the guy that answered said "why??" Ummmm because I want to order food to go! They charged us grat for a party of five, it was two adults with our three children, we typically tip 30% and prebus. On top of hitting gratuity on children, we didn't see our server after they left food, we needed napkins and other things. It was clear they thought we were going to be cheap since we were a minority as they chose to give service to some pretentious prick who spoke broken mandarin. We had ordered a duck to start off, and bok choy, they topped the bok with some gross mushrooms I didn't want, so I never got to order the pork belly from my non existent server and other items after that as they didn't return and at this point I was already irritated. I asked for a foam cup to take the rest of my tea, which was non alcoholic and 4.00 to go they told me no... I had bought four for a total of 16.00 and was told I couldn't take mine, not even from the decanter at the table, from my actual glass.... After trying to pay the tablet asked me to tip an additional 12% and up, hard pass. I actually was going to leave 20.00 in cash despite having grat on there, until the stupid to go cup thing became an issue for once again, paying almost the same 20 for some tea. Service was fine, very quick and attentive. Ambiance was what I look for in a family Chinese restaurant, with nice decor and not looking like a barren soup kitchen. Food was served remarkably fast, piping hot and fresh. I was not pleased with the taste of the dishes we ordered though. Sweet and sour chicken was sweet, but very little sour quality. Orange chicken needed a LOT more orange zest. On the plus side, chicken in both dishes was tender and well cooked. Hot and sour soup needs to be a lot more tangy. Heat level was good, and the pork/tufu/veggie levels were great, but I wasn't picking up the sour factor in the broth. Egg rolls were crispy, loaded with shredded chicken and veggies but kind of bland, and the sauce served with them was thin and pretty much tasteless other than being sweet. I typically like the food just fine from here. Never really a problem with the food but there's constantly a problem with any type of change in an order. Last time I ordered food to pick up, I asked 3 times... 3 times to have fried rice instead of white rice with my pepper steak and other order. We wandered over to Din Ho while we were waiting for our table at tatsuya....we ended up eating here! I'll say this place is amazing!! I ordered the bbq combination: duck, pork ribs, and chicken! First time trying duck so nothing to compare it to, but everything was delicious! My wife and I also ordered the wonton soup and egg rolls and she got the crispy chicken noodles. We wanted to hit Three Gorges but got held up and arrived during their afternoon siesta from 2-4:30pm. But since we were already in the area, we headed over to a former favorite, Din Ho Chinese BBQ. It was disappointing. Inside is nice with well made tables but uncomfortably sticky leather upholstered chairs. Unsurprisingly , the prices are higher than before but not out of line. The menu is somewhat limited being the Chinese BBQ standards, despite offering about 20 different shrimp dishes. We ordered char sui, roasted duck, a fish (only bass is on the menu) and mapo dofu. The pork was pretty good as you would expect but the duck was very dry and very salty--to the extent that we were putting the tofu dish sauce on it to wash it down. The rice was soggy and the small shared container was half empty. The fish arrived looking grey and unappealing but tasted ok. There was over a 20 minute gap between the arrival of our first and last dish, of which the two BBQ dishes were last despite requiring the least preparation. After we received the dehydrated duck, we were unable to get any service to bring us water to try to wash it down--thus the mapo dofu abomination. To top it off, we had to wait at the cash register to pay where they added a 20% automatic gratuity. While we had not dined here in a while, it was always pretty good previously. We had guests visiting and it was kind of embarrassing. Next time I'll just wait for Three Gorges to reopen or hit any other place in the strip. read more

This place really deserves a MUCH HIGHER composite score on Yelp. I have been twice for takeout and the two things that matter - a frictionless pickup and quality of the food are spot on. The people who run it, I am guessing a family are so nice and speak perfect English. The food is packed well on time and when I got home 20 min later was HOT. Finally as a BBQ place it's all about the meats. The roast pork and duck are great. Egg rolls were adequate and the chow fun/fried rice noodles w beef were . I'm a fan and will keep coming back. I still go to Din Ho for the Peking Duck. The duck is excellent. One of the few places to find duck well prepared with crispy skin. The price has sky rocketed. Not long ago, Peking duck was $40. It's now $65. Din Ho offers wine. Since we were eating in, I ordered a glass of wine. The price was reasonable, but the pour was 1/2 of a normal 5 1/2 ounce pour. So, the wine is really $18 a glass, for a bottle that cost the restaurant about $15 to $20. Good food. In adequate service. read more

Let me say that a delivered dinner never has the same oomph as dining in person. So I ordered moo goo gai pan and combo fried rice to be delivered. The chicken and sauce in the moo goo gai pan was exceptional! Tender, fresh, juicy! But I asked for no carrots and got carrots. Ok, I gave them to the dog. She loves 'em. What I didn't like was very very overcooked bok choy, giant slivers of uncooked garlic and ginger and woody, chewy, bamboo shoots. So sad. Next, the fried rice had no flavor at all. Din Ho is probably one of the best chinese restaurants in Austin. We are "basic" eaters, mainly sticking to WonTon Soup and Pork Fried Rice with a third dish switching out weekly (usually a tofu/veggie dish). Each dish we've ordered has been excellent! I wish there is zero star for service. We were here today for lunch and were so disappointed with a woman cashier, we guessed she the restaurant manager. When we finished our meals, my husband asked the woman at cashier desk to give him a little box for the leftover chili sauce that we ate on our table. She gave him a rude look and asked so loud: you already finished why you want a box??? The other waitress standing right there heard our conversation, she was about to go get it for my husband but that woman stopped her and nagging in Chinese "Nam Yanh" ("Vietnamse...") it's discrimination!!! Then she went all the way to our table and checked. When she saw that we had a take-out box in the bag, she walked away and went back unfriendly threw an empty little sauce box on the table for us. I've been going to Din Ho for a long, long time. I know it's no longer under the same ownership, and the food itself has changed a bit, but I still LOVE going! Some of the cons are that the food is more expensive than other similar Chinese places, there is no "ETA" listed when you place a pickup order UNTIL the order is placed, and I've had a few miscommunications with my order. I do appreciate that it's central and easy to get to (probably the cause of the slightly higher prices), it has dependably good food, and they are being VERY safe when it comes to COVID protocol. DEFINITELY get - any flat noodles, the crispy pork chop, and any fish dish (my personal fave when I'm eating lighter). read more

Din Ho feels like it hasn't changed since I first went there 10 years ago, and that's a great thing. The prices are very reasonable, service is great, and the food is tasty and comes out of the kitchen fast. They also have one of, if not the, best wonton soups I've ever had.
