I went to Diner 24 over the weekend with my husband and his aunt. It was old school diner vibe with inoperable (for show) juke boxes on each table. We were greeted by a sweet hostess and that is where the praise ends. Once we sit we look over the menu and decide on our order. Server #1 comes over and takes our drink order. Moments later we are approached by server#2. We tell him we already put in our drinks with #1. He says that's ok and takes our dinner order. A third person brings over our drinks and the milkshakes are so massive you need to eat through a giant scoop of ice cream that sits atop before it melts in order to get to the shake. May I mention no one gave us a spoon to do the job. Finally the food comes. It was plentiful but terrible. I had open faced turkey which was about a pound of turkey atop stale white bread. It tasted oddly of garlic (lots of it). I just figured it was the greasy broccoli doused in oil and garlic. I asked for more gravy. This was very garlicky as well. I ended up taking some of the dry turkey and mashed potatoes home as to not waste everything. My husband's order was incomplete and he said it was not good either. Server#3 asked if we didn't like the food and said I guess you're not coming back?! Odd exchange. Walking my aunt back to her apartment, my husband wondered if we were charged for his missing side order so he went back. Waiter #1 showed him the bill and gave him the cold shoulder. I cannot recommend this diner as there are better options in the vicinity. read more

I love the idea of 24 hour diners, and I think this is very much needed in NYC to bring the real energy of New York back. So they get three stars for that and for friendly and attentive staff and very clean and great coffee. Since I am diabetic, I have to pay attention to the specifics of the menu. I ordered the pancakes only because they said that they can be served with sugar-free syrup, which I ordered. Instead, what was delivered was not sugar-free syrup--first mistake--so I let the server know that I had ordered sugar-free syrup. Instead of taking away the syrup, he sent my waitress over to me, and she claimed that they actually do not have real sugar-free syrup but rather a concoction blend of regular maple syrup and sugar-free syrup, but "it's not really too sweet, so it's fine." It was not fine. I dribbled a little of their concoction, which was very sweet and tasted awful on the pancakes, and added some butter, but the pancakes were very dry. I was hungry, so I was able to eat about half of the pancake, which I would never have ordered if the menu did not state that sugar-free syrup was available. I would have gotten eggs. This bait and switch was a very big fail and more like what you would expect from a greasy spoon that does not really care about the customer. There have been many closures in the restaurant industry. There can be a hit or miss when it comes to finding a restaurant with great food and excellent customer service. Usually mst diners only have good burgers and breakfast food the casual hot opened roast beef but this place is by far superior. Dunno what is going on with all these great reviews and boasts about it being one of the best diners in the USA. I know off days and busy days are a thing, but also maybe people have no ability to think for themselves and assume because one person said something good about it one time, then they must be right. I went for a late lunchtime and the queue was out the door. I was solo, so I was seated at the counter, but after ordering it was only a couple minutes and my burger arrived. I have no proof, but I strongly suspect that the burgers are not made to order and prepared ahead of time during busy periods. The meat looked anemic, was lukewarm, and did not look like a smash burger at all. Initial bites were extremely bland, but I got to the seasoned part by the end. Fries were below average. Coke was flat. My burger was not IG-worthy at all, so I won't give it the time of day here, either. Tastiest part was the bowl of mayo they brought me. I'm not sure if the place was understaffed, but the service was terrible. When you get asked if you know what you want and even if you don't bc you just got seated, still order an app! We said we needed a little bit more time & it took asking a few people and 20 minutes to get someone to come back. It took a long time for us to get the check. And the pricing was not diner pricing. The bagel here was toasted and with cream cheese tasted delicious . After an early morning test, I was famished. I asked for strong black tea and was offered English Breakfast Tea. I told the server that I wanted the tea bag in the cup first and hot water poured over. I covered it with a paper napkin to brew nicely and then asked for milk. Late Night Eats! We came here around 1:30am on a Tuesday morning. Being that it's a "diner" I really didn't have high expectations. Welp..... Diner 24 blew me away and shut me up!! When we first walked in there wasn't anyone at the hostess table so we sat ourself. Within minutes of sitting a gentleman came over to greet us and give us menus. The booth we sat in was that of a standard diner. Condiments on the table with napkins and a cute jukebox. After a quick scan we decided to share the BBQ Lamb Ribs (you read that right), for my meal I had the Surf & Turf sandwich and my BF had pancakes with eggs and sausage. The lamb ribs were like nothing I've ever had. It was bursting with so many different flavors that all meshed very well together. The Surf & Turf sandwich is out of this world! It's filet mignon & lobster on ciabatta, the perfect size and completely STUFFED. I would come back weekly just for the sandwich because it was sooooo good! Cocktails are my thing especially if they're mezcal, tequila, whiskey or champagne based. I ordered a Gotham Sour but unfortunately there wasn't a bartender at that hour so I went with a frozen pre made option instead. I dream of Diner24! This modern 24hr diner with cool decor is what was missing from the New York, New York landscape! I was so pleased upon arrival through departure from whence I had gone to meet my friend who lives a mere block away. Immediately, the service was all around attentive and friendly. Our waiter Edwin, and other staff made us feel very welcome, frequently checked on us, and never rushed us. The food was DELICIOUS! The 12 ounce smash burger was massive! I ate it with a knife and fork without shame, haha. The fries were slender and crispy, not greasy. The plate was served with a pickle spear and red cabbage coleslaw. The baklava tasted of fresh ingredients and was authentically prepared, (I'm Greek so I know). I also partook of the boozy milkshake - The Nutty Irish man. It was a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds. It also had a hidden cake pop surprise - how fun! I was gladdened to see that they had eco friendly takeaway containers for leftover food, and paper straws for drinks. (I finished my food but my friend has a smaller appetite, haha.) So many seating options to choose from! Indoors they have booth seating and regular tables, a dining shed outside on 3rd Avenue plus patio seating along on 22nd St. They also have a small bar in the back with barstools and happy hour deals. There are two gender neutral bathrooms on site with pretty artwork hung up to spruce up the space. I always appreciate artwork done in this manner. Lastly, it was heartwarming to see a passing thirsty doggy having a drink of water from the outside fresh water bowls station set up for canines. Kudos to the creators of Diner24! (NICO, PLEASE FIND ANOTHER PROFESSION) I walked into this diner alone at around 3:30 AM on 8/9/25. It was extremely loud, so I politely asked to be seated in another section. The busser greeted me right away with water, which I appreciated. However, as I sat there for about 15 minutes, I watched the waiter in my section purposely avoid me while serving other tables that had arrived after me--especially a table of five. After about 20 minutes, I finally flagged him down and asked, "Who's waiting on this section?" He replied, "I am." I told him, "So I've been sitting here for 20 minutes, and you completely ignored me?" Once I placed my order, he never returned to check if I needed anything and continued to avoid my table. I eventually had to wave down another server to request my check and share my experience. That server was very apologetic and sympathetic, and I explained I would be giving my $20 tip to the busser--not the server who neglected me. I later learned the server's name is Nico. This arrogant, entitled, and unprofessional individual should not be serving the public. I have never encountered a waiter with such disregard for guests, and I hope never to witness it again. I don't know who owns this establishment, but you should be ashamed to employ someone who treats customers this way. I do not recommend this restaurant and will never return. Truly disappointing. Outstanding service around the clock, fantastic food at a decent price, and a great old school vibe that is currently lacking in many parts of NYC. I've tried a few of their dishes, including a pasta that was perfectly al dente, and their Reuben sandwich, which was overflowing with meat. You'll always get massive portions, and the food is actually quite good! Still on my list are the milkshakes and the smash burger, as well as some of the all-day breakfast offerings -- the menu has something for everyone. I ordered a grilled cheese that came with tomato soup & fries, the grilled cheese was a hamburger bun with cheese melted inside and slapped/microwaved on the plate, non edible, the fries were good, the soup came without a spoon. My husband ordered an iced tea and was given iced coffee. His impossible burger was fine. The fried mozz appetizer we shared comes soaked in oil covered in seasoning (the non spicy one) and with a side of ranch, kind of weird to fry something to make it crispy and then drench it in oil. We was so shocked how a chicken salad was made so plenty and flavorful even having the pita bread warm and buttery was different and delicious. Food wasn't good at all ordered burger, cheese & turkey bacon how in God green can you get that wrong. i asked for gluten free bread they gave it to my friend. He complained bread was stale as were the fries. I got the side salad which was dry as well. The only thing we enjoyed were the drinks. BTW they don't have a full bar. The service was poor we never saw our server until he brought us the check. Everyone was rushing you couldn't sit and enjoy yourself . Eggs were perfect, and choc chip pancakes were yummy and fluffy. Sadly, my home fries were not the same well-seasoned ones I had last time. The server didn't seem to know the menu, and what's worse, we were served a drink that contained alcohol even though we are underaged.
