Came here about an hour before closing after a heavy gym session. My friend and I ordered the cold appetizer dish that had pig ear, tofu and other things in it, the pork cutlet with rice and the schecuan dan dan noodle. Everything was really delicious, fairly priced. I will say, everything had that sichuan pepper corn in it, so almost all the food had the tongue numbing sensation to it. To me, I love spicy, but the feeling and the flavor of this peppercorn is like my arch nemesis. I just cant seem to like it. It has a distinct metallic taste to it like I'm licking metal tools or a battery. THIS is just a personal problem I have with the peppercorn, though. If the sensation of eating sichuan peppercorns doesn't bother you then you have nothing to worry about. Regardless, I kept eating the food because it was delicious! I really appreciate the pickled mustard green in the pork cutlet fried rice combo, it really gave it an extra dimension of flavor and i just grew up eating that pickled green anyway so it was extra good in my eyes! Also, kudos to the wait staff- everybody was SO NICE, and i have never had such good water service in my life. More like 3.5 stars for Ding's but rounding up to 4. I got takeout here for my family a few weeks back and it wasn't bad. We ordered 5 dishes to share for dinner, and had food leftover too. We were able to call and place our order for pickup on the phone. We got boiled pork and chive dumplings, beef roll, stir fried bean curd, a veggie dish, and a pork cutlet dish. Overall a very smooth ordering process and decent food. If you enjoy more of mainland Chinese food (Shanghainese type), you'll enjoy their food. The dishes I liked most were the bean curd and beef roll -- these felt most authentic to the Taiwanese cuisine to me as the wrap on the roll was thin, the cutlet was nice too and came with a stewed egg. The cabbage and dumplings fell short for me as the cabbage was greasy and the dumpling wrappers were thick. Aside from that, prices are decent and parking is easy since it's located in a grocery/shopping plaza. This place is worth a try especially if you're local and looking for new spots! read more

We didn't intend to come here, but since another restaurant in this plaza was closed we ended up trying this place out. Best dinner ever!!! Service was 10/10 . The lady and gents here are very friendly and accommodating. Beef noodle soup is wonderful. Must order Dan Dan noodles were too peanutty for my liking. I'm used to more of a savory Dan Dan noodle. The duck here is good, but different from the beijing style ducks which are usually crispy. This is a shanghai styled duck which is on the sweeter side- non crispy . I ordered from here for the first time last week to go. The location is in the same shopping mall where Vons is location on the Naomi side of the street by Starbucks. I tried the beef dish with noodles. It came a very small to go container for the price I paid :( The beef was very tasty. However the noodles had this weird grit to them. I didn't like it. Not sure if they're homemade and that's why, but it wasn't for me. If they sell the beef by itself, I would get that instead. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean. Located in the same plaza as vons. Ample parking in the lot. We came in for dinner on an evening where internet was oddly out. My gps went offline on the way to the restaurant both in my car and my phone. A few other restaurants in the plaza closed for the day. Dings garden was only taking payment by cash or Zelle. We were promptly seated. The wait staff was really nice and made sure to explain to everyone coming in that their credit card machine was not working. We ordered way too much food. Overall it was too salty for my liking. Most of the dishes were already marinated in advance so there wasn't much they can do. Our favorite dishes were the beef roll and Shanghai rice cakes. The Napa in the rice cakes was a bit bitter and the staff offered to swap it out with spinach. Since we had eaten quite a bit of the rice cakes, we told them it was not necessary. The beef roll wasn't greasy at all. Had a nice crunch to it. My sister had the pork spare ribs soup noodles. The soup and the noodles were good. The pork spare ribs were mostly fat, over salted and had lots of shattered bones throughout. Don't order this for kids or the elderly. The not so good dishes were: mapo tofu rice, we thought it was fried rice. It wasn't. It's steamed rice with mapo tofu on top. Too salty. Pork spare ribs fried rice. We ordered this for my mom. She couldn't eat the pork spare ribs because of the small pieces of bone and how salty it was. Fried buns with pork inside. The pork was too dried. There was no juice inside the bun. The actual bun itself was a little too dense. The pork and preserved veggie noodles soup. The noodles were good. But there was way too much white pepper in the soup. The preserved veggie also wasn't very preserved. The pieces of pork were also mostly fat. Kudos to the staff for trying to make things right. They came over often to check on us, refilled our drinks and take away empty plates etc. We would be reluctant to come back again even though a few dishes were good. Every time time I come the owner is beyond accommodating and nice to me. He always makes sure my orders correct and gives me a drink as I wait since my orders are large. Cannot rave enough about this place!! It's such a local and family favorite. We get Dings so often that all the people who work here know us. The sweet lady always gives us free wintermelon drinks when we come too. (Feels like total family vibes!) Plus: They do takeout really efficiently. Great and fast service. Decided to come here after shopping around in the area and was extremely glad that I did. The food and service here is exceptional. I ordered the Beef Roll and Braised Beef Noodle Soup which were both fantastic. The Beef Roll comes with beef shank, hoisin sauce, cilantro, and is wrapped together with a Chinese pancake. The crisp texture of the pancake, tender beef shank, fresh cilantro and savory hoisin sauce made the dish absolutely delightful. Definitely recommend getting this item when coming here. The Braised Beef Noodle Soup was also great. The broth has a lot of flavor, the pieces of beef just melt in your mouth, the vegetables were fresh, and the pickled vegetables provided a nice contrast to the broth. This dish was fantastic to eat! Overall the food was superb and met my expectations. Service here was also great. The waiter was polite and took my order in a timely manner. I ordered the very spicy beef noodle soup. The noodles were very good and the broth was spicy! Only complaint would be the cilantro on top. Wow we loved the food! We got medium spicy Dan Dan noodles, mixed vegetable noodle soup and beef pan fried noodles. The flavors in the mixed veggie soup were so delicate and delicious. The Dan Dan noodles were scrumptious. My partner enjoyed the beef but he isn't much a fan of the thick egg noodles, although they were very tasty. We ordered on the phone and it was ready in ten minutes and very good price. The lady behind the counter was really sweet and attentive. Glad this is one of my local restaurants. read more

Came out of the LA Arboretum very hungry. I Yelped to see what was in the area and saw there was a Din Tai Fung in the area. Now craving XLB, we had watched Emeril tour Shanghai in search of XLB the night before on Amazon, I did a search of cheaper solutions. Then this place pops up. While we were on the hunt for XLB, the reviews of the noodles in brown sauce caught our eyes. We find it, real close to the Arboretum, and immediately get a seat. Can't be more then 16 seats inside and a few tables outside. Definitely a better at just off hours kind of place. Very clean and bright, the staff was really nice. We ordered pork XLB, noodles w/brown sauce, and spicy Schezuan won tons. Ever since we went to Din Tai Fung, we've been making those won tons for dinner, great easy dish. The XLB was good. As the rating system in the Emeril show went, we rated it as not having a lot of soup in it, and the pi wasn't really thin. Tasted great though. The won tons were different. First off they were tiny, not the sort you would get in soup. Maybe 1/3 of the normal filling (maybe that's a Hawai'i thing). Then the sauce was seasoned with jalapeños along with other pepper. While not what we were expecting (like a sauce based on Schezuan pepper corns and garlic chili), it was still good. But the noodles with brown sauce, that people were raving about in previous reviews, were that good. I have no idea what the brown sauce is as I've never seen it in Hawaii, but it rocks. Good job XLB. (Edit) I looked it up and it seems that brown sauce is hoi sin based vs. oyster sauce. And there is no chicken stock gravy. read more

SOO YUMMY. this place makes me wish i lived in arcadia -- sadly this restaurant is 7 hours away from where i live. the dumplings were so soft & the noodles were so flavorful. i wish i knew what the sauce was made of. i got this for takeout early morning so it wasnt too busy when i got there, not too sure if its busy around dinner time. the lady who took my order was soo kind and welcoming. she kept worrying about whether or not we had enough water in our cups and our water bottles due to it being a hot day. definitely going to go here the next time i come down to arcadia :) read more

Whenever we think of Shanghai food, we would come to Dong's garden. Haven't been here since the pandemic. My wife wanted to have Shanghai fried soup dumpling and we came here to order a take-out today. The soup dumpling was so fluffy and juicy. The bottom of the bun skin was crispy that made the eating of the bun a pleasant culinary experience. I love this type of buns. When I visited Shanghai few years ago, I went out to the street and looked for the buns every morning for breakfast. Can't get enough of them. The restaurant also provide other very authentic Shanghainese dishes here. Their famous dishes include the beef jerky mixed with pig's ear and fried tofu, pan fried rice cake with pork, wonton soup and beef noodles. COVID edition: Service is exactly what you would expect. The place is kept pretty sanitized tho. I walk in and a lady is spraying pure alcohol all over the place.. so I guess I feel good about that? ‍ the food come out pretty fast, but definitely call in if possible. The dumplings: my friend and I were split. I felt that even though the filling is actually better than DTF (yes, I said it).. the wrapper is too think for my taste. However, my friend loves how thick the wrapper is. Overall, 9.5/10. The beef noodle soup: great! I've tried a lot of beef noodle soup in this area.. bc.. Arcadia .. but this definitely holds up to the competition. The meat was so tender, the flavor was bold but not overpowering and it was seasoned well.. not too salty. The portion is perfect too! Overall, 9.5/10 The beef roll: probably my least favorite, which makes me sad because Noodle 101 closed .. this version was dry and definitely missing the "crack sauce" from noodle 101. Turns out that Ding's Garden is located in a HUGE plaza with tons of other shops and food options. FOOD: - XLB - you only get 8 in an order, the skin is thicker than at Mama Lu's or DTF, but the flavor is really good. They only give one tiny dish of ginger and the vinegar bottle. - dan dan noodle - a personal favorite of mine, you can choose the spiciness level (we got medium) and they use the szechuan numbing powder to season the noodles. Portion size is pretty good for the price. - green onion pancake - definitely the thickest and most pillowy green onion pancake I've ever eaten. Good, but not what I was expecting. - shanghai style noodles - tiny portion, but good. Overall, good food, not too salty and service is fine. They speak both cantonese and mandarin. This is a very tiny restaurant in the mall of Vons. No table bigger than 4 ppl. So beware if you have a large party. As for the food, it's only mediocre. Really mediocre. Nothing seriously wrong, but nothing surprising, and nothing stand out or taste like something that I would order again. We ordered Dan dan noodle, spicy beef tendon soup noodle, cold dish (stripes and pig ear and bean curd) and a pan fried wonton. The dan dan noodle: portion is BIG, and sauce is tasty, but VERY heavy. The quality is the noodle is definitely not very good. Not chewy enough, kind of thin noodle that lack of any texture. The softness is the noodle plus the super heavy feeling sauce make this dish very unpopular. It's those dish the first bite is good. And the fifth bite is yuck!! The spicy beef tendon soup, big portion. Soup is ok. Tendon, not great, acceptable. But again, ruin by the same noodle again. I am a noodle person. This Restaurant's noodle is definitely under par. If you want better beef noodle, Corner beef noodle in El Monte can beat this noodle by ten times or more. Even noodle street noodle in Monrovia is way better than their noodle. Very disappointed. The cold dish, nothing special, nothing surprising. It's supposed to be a mix of three cold dishes. It was overrun by the bean curd, barely any pig ear or stripe. I guess bean curd is the cheapest one among three, that's why we got mostly bean curd. Laoxi in Arcadia has way better cold dish than this one. Very disappointing dish. Pan fried wonton. Again, nothing special about their wonton. Luscious dumpling in Monrovia have way better dumpling than them. So overall, a very disappointing experience. If they want to continue to sell those noodle dish, I think that they need to invest in getting some better noodle. I feel like I am eating some store brand cheap noodle. And I saw a truckload of frozen food like dumplings delivered to this location during my visit. That means, their dumpling is NOT made fresh in their kitchen. It's made somewhere, got frozen and deliver to the restaurant. That's a BIG different in taste! Probably won't come back again. There are a lot of restaurant around SGV that offered better food. Awesome place pre-pandemic, but fell short during this crisis. We called in to place our order and they were fast to make our order which as great. What was disappointing was that the majority of our order was either lacking in flavor or dry. The Shanghai style pan fried rice cake had almost no flavor, and they barely added enough of their mala flavoring oil to the spicy beef tendon. I do however recommend the pig ears and dan-dan noodles, as well as the pan-fried dumpling. Always good to get!
