Food Okay, I am even surprised by this one. I ordered the catch of the day, salmon and sides that came with that - zucchini and squash along with jambalaya rice. The meal I received was grilled to perfection, veggies were nicely seasoned and not layered in butter, and the rice was savory. The portion for the price was awesome! It's been a while since we needed a to-go box. My husband ordered the seafood boil - again, seafood cooked to perfection. Ambiance Clean, casual and fun! When we arrived at about noon on a Saturday and we quickly seated. The ambiance is casual and touristy, which I don't mind. The service was quick and efficient. The Mariners platter was enough food for a family of four, so definitely good for a second or third meal- if taking home. The snow crab legs were perfectly steamed with the shells crisp enough to crack! If you're picking up the oyster's Rockefeller, which we recommend, just be sure to share. It's a lot. The bathrooms were clean. My only criticism would be the flies. There were quite a few of them buzzing around. read more

Went in with a party of 11 and didn't have too high of expectation due to the hot/cold reviews. But boy, was it a let down. We ordered 5 trinity platters and a half pound of snow crab and some apps. The service was really great, but the food was so underwhelming. The She Crab Soup just tasted like salty heavy cream. The oysters were so dirty I would pick up black grime on my lips and the brine tasted like water. The Trinity Platter looked grandiose but the tastes and well-doneness was so inconsistent. Some people had their shrimp under or over cooked, had no flavor, and clams were not counted properly. Unfortunately, the food was not cooked properly and everyone who had the Trinity platter got sick. On a brighter note, their gator po boy was really good and worth the price. The shrimp Mac and cheese was also very good, with lots of shrimp. These two items and the service gave this review 2 stars. read more

Dirty Dicks - wow, oh, wow! Our male server, who we've had a few times, was very attentive, as always. Our food - WOW is all we can say! The Mariners Platter was big enough for 2 grown men to share, and they still left food on the plate. It was a GIGANTIC portion size and oh so delicious! Another meal we had was the shrimp tacos, another WOW!! These were big tacos full of shrimp, not just 3 or 4 shrimp per taco. OH BOY! Where do I even begin. Let's start with our first request.. She Crab Soup. He brought out clam chowder but the waiter was happy to replace it with the correct soup once we reminded him. Throughout the entire time here the waiter was confused about what food goes to what table. The food itself was par although the flounder is not stuffed as advertised. At this point, Me and my date are ready leave but the nonsense wasn't ready to end. He delivered our check with out the check because it fell on the walk over and he picked it up after we pointed it out. He gave us tartar sauce that the other table requested and I had to hand him the sauce and remind him that the other table requested it. My son tried the fried alligator which he liked. Nice atmosphere with fish, sharks, musical instruments and beachy stuff on the wall. so maybe 4 stars is too much. i don't really know. we'd drive by and see a sign "get pounded for $16.16". classy right? but the idea got us in the door. a pound of protein (fish, shrimp or chicken) and, i think, a pound of fries (or maybe it was a pound total). either way, the plate had a huge helping of fries and fish. sometimes a place lives in your thoughts because it's so bad. other times, because it's so good. rarely is it for both reasons. first, our server was incredibly nice but service was slow and often we were looking around to see if we could find him to request a drink refill or even to get our check. on the other hand, he did save me some money... i was going to order a side of hushpuppies but he let us know we would receive complimentary puppies and i could order additional if i wanted more. thanks to him, i was able to try them and didn't order more. they were overcooked, tough, greasy and overall kinda bad. the fries were find but way too many. the fish, however, was incredible. i don't know what type of fish it was but it was light and flaky. mild in flavor and perfectly "breaded". i wish i knew what it was because i can't stop thinking of how good it was. even the tartar sauce was delicious, though completely different than i'm used to. anyway, i'd be willing to go back for that fish. read more

The name drew us in Stopped by for lunch during our vacation and the food was delicious. I got the jumbo shrimp mac n cheese and a strawberry margarita. We had the alligator bites for appetizer, which took a long time to come out but was steaming hot and so worth the wait! Our server was good and friendly. The ambiance is what you would expect for a crab house. And they also have a store toward the right of the entrance if you need extra souvenirs. The margarita came in a souvenir cup for me to keep. We were in the mood for some oysters and saw they had something called an oyster flight, which is like a beer flight but with oysters! Was skeptical based on Yelp reviews but as so happy we did it's so hard finding good restaurants in coastal towns. Came for lunch We had the alligator bites, raw oysters, crab cakes (main course )it came with broccoli and dirty rice and the she crab soup. Everything was so delicious and tasty. One thing I had a Bloody Mary with souvenir class (a deal) it came with a shrimp that was dipped in old bay that was too salty to eat. That's my only negative. Service was fast and friendly. Everything we got that was fried was wayyy over fried. The calamari just tasted like over cooked batter. A lot of the calamari just broke into dust pieces, it was awful. The fried shrimp was also over fried and so was the chicken on the fried chicken salad. My steak and cheese was sooo underwhelming, it tasted like frozen "steak em's." The fries were good, thank goodness. But for the price, it wasn't worth it. The staff was amazing and the store was fun (but overpriced which was expected due to the tourism of this area.) I traveled solo to KDH to get away and was excited to be able to get a king crab seafood boil. I added the extra boil and it was all bland with no flavor at all. The crab had a decent amount of meat so that was a huge plus. The one star had nothing to do with the food and everything to do with the TERRIBLE service. Let's start of with the manager(?) Jim. He stopped over and seemed nice at first and made some conversation. After that he came over a couple more times and would make conversation but in a manner that made me feel very uncomfortable. In between these conversations and throughout the night he would stare at me from the other side of the restaurant. At one point I over heard him loudly joking with another server saying "That's why they call me Dirty Jim!" Now my server (who was also the bartender), was attentive at first but as the meal went on she would disappear for a while and then pop back up behind the bar. She seemed a little "erratic" as the evening went on, but I thought maybe she had some health issue that was causing it so I didn't pay anymore to it. After about an hour being there she was acting extremely erratic and in a manner that could make you think she was under the influence of something. She finally came over what felt like a couple hours later (I could be exaggerating but it seemed it) asked if I wanted the check and I said yes. Now a longer time passed and she came back and realized she forgot to bring the check over and at this point it became very obvious that she was under the influence of something other than alcohol. She was moving around erratically, flailing her arms around and contorting her body in unnatural awkward positions. The manager and all the servers noticed and said nothing which made it seem like it was a common occurrence. When she came back with the check, I immediately gave her my credit card which took her way too long to bring back to me as she continued to act in the same erratic manner. I had to sit on the phone with a friend the whole time to prevent the manager from coming up and talking to me , and because I felt so uncomfortable I could not make any sort of complaint to management about her behavior. read more

The moment we walked in, we were politely greeted, sat down and given a great background of the restaurant by Jim. A very knowledgeable person. We were greeted by the waiter and he was great recommending different entrées. We had a dozen and half of local oysters which were flavorful and a pretty good size for the season. We ordered pounded. We got a pound of shrimps were which were a good size and very flavorful. Also, we ordered a pound of Crab! Delicious!! We enjoyed the ambience. Darko helped with the table. He was at our beck and call as we needed different things. He was readily available! He had a great personality and very personable! We visited Dirty Dick's on October 12th on a visit to Nag's Head and our dinner was delicious. We saw billboards coming into the Outer Banks and thought they were funny. I'm so glad we decided to stop! My husband's stuffed flounder was heavenly and the sauce was rich and savory. My steamed snow crab legs were perfect and our hush puppies were hot and fresh. We both ordered frozen drinks. I chose a peach margarita and he picked a Bushwacker. Both were very tasty and came in a souvenir cup. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was fun if a little loud ... but definitely relaxed and enjoyable. After all, we chose to eat at a restaurant called Dirty Dick's. We weren't expecting it to be quiet and dimly lit. In the end, it's on our list to visit next time we vacation in Nag's Head and we've recommended it to our friends. It's worth the stop. read more

We are here as a large group of 17 people. The group has appetizers, cocktails, and entrees. I had the Crabby Mary to drink, which was their upscale Bloody Mary. It came garnished with a shrimp and crab leg in addition to olives, peppers, and celery. The seasoning salt in the Bloody Mary was the best I've had and it had just a touch of a kick to it. It was very enjoyable and I was able to split open my crab leg and soak it in the drink before enjoying. The Broiled Seafood platter had a little bit of everything. There was crab cake, flounder, jumbo shrimp and sea scallops served with veggies and their andouille rice. It was a ton of food, but everything was full of flavor and fresh. My favorite part was the crab cake. Being from the Midwest, the crab cakes are more breading and seasoning than crab. This crab cake, the large chunks of crab were barely held together with breading and seasoning. I was able to take home half of a meal to enjoy the next day. read more
