A friend brought me here for brunch today... the food was AHH-MAZING! I ordered the Diablo (which is under the scrambles). I'm not a big pork eater, so I was a little skeptical, but I was SO satisfied! The pork is smoked in house ( taste ALOT lot brisket actually). If you're a spicy lover, the Diablo is for you! I ate my entire meal, and the portion was heafty. The regular mimosa was good too! There was only a 15min wait for two, but the restaurant was pretty packed, you can tell it's a popular spot. The tables could use a little upgrading, and I would've like to see the chefs wearing hair nets, but it was an amazing choice for brunch. read more

I've been here a couple times in the past few months. Last night's visit was disappointing. Place was pretty empty. I had a patty melt and my son had a Reuben and we had two IPAs. Bill was $65 (before tip). Food was good, as before, but service was lousy. It began when I asked how the IPAs were. The server said, "they're IPAs". Hmmm. She took our order and others delivered it pretty quickly. Our server never checked back on us and I had to flag her down after 20 minutes to get a second beer. In the meantime she spent much of the evening on her phone. I saw several of the other servers and they were busting a move. Wiping down tables, checking with customers, scanning the room, basically doing what you think a server would do at a place that charges $65 for two burgers and two beers. read more

I'm trying to like this place but went Sunday evening for dinner and waited forever for our order and it was not even busy. Told the waiter we wanted chicken wings naked. He brings breaded after we wait over 30 min. Then says he will get them right on our order of wings. In the meantime we finish a forgettable Cobb salad and order of so called crab cakes with no DNA trace of crab. I ordered a Kentucky mule hoping the same dude could make one. I don't know what he brought me but it was not a Kentucky mule. This place is better when the girls are working. I'm done with Dirty Oscar's until they clean up their act. read more

Imagine sitting across from your friend for an hour envying her meal while you looked sadly at your own. That was my experience here. This place is rated a solid 4 stars so I thought it was a good bet after my first choice Southern Kitchen was closed but I was wrong. I ordered the fish and chips after the server raved about how it was not frozen so it was not soggy. There were so many things wrong with my dish. There were 4 small pieces of fish with a thin salt and pepper breading that was barely crispy. I do not exaggerate when I say this was the worst coleslaw I have ever had. Thickly sliced cabbage (red and green) drowning in a WARM milky white dressing. I ate half of it and left the rest. The dressing spilled over to the fish and resulted in the bottom piece being soggy. I tried the fries next and they were a soggy mess. I can name 10 other places that does fries better (Red Robin, Katsu Burger, Five Guys to name a few). My friend got the shrimp and grits. I can actually recommend this dish. It came with 7-8 giant shrimp, bacon bits, creamy grits and a nice sauce. She devoured every morsel of this dish. I don't leave too many 2 star reviews but unfortunately this place deserves it. It was honestly the worst fish and chips I've had in years. read more

I love the food here but I have got food poising twice and so did my friend the day I went from the cauliflower appetizer. I believe they use the same batter they fry the chicken in and it made us very sick. One word WOW. My fiancé and I just wrapped up a much needed date night over at Dirty Oscar's and can I just say it was an AMAZING experience. Not only is the food amazing!! (We ordered the nachos and chicken & waffles with the Brussel sprouts to start) The drinks were sooo freaking good as well. They specialize in moonshine cocktails. We got moonshine lemonade and boy was it tasty The service was also TOP TIER our waitress was so welcoming and just had awesome energy. They also have a jukebox that you can play from an app on your phone. Since my partner and I are huge music fans this was definitely the cherry on top for us. The staff are all wearing masks and social distancing is definitely in effect. This place is 21+ only so just a heads up. What an awesome night. Thanks guys! read more

Let the buyer beware. If you use a credit card they charge you the service fees. They are not upfront about that which I find lacks integrity. I ordered a medium rare burger and got it medium well. Not worth the effort to send back because of the length of time it took to arrive. This is a place for drinking if that's what you're interested in. The cocktail was okay. Some friends and I went to this place for the first time the other day, and as of right now they are offering outdoor dining - there's heating lamps as well - just bring a jacket in case. Looking for a breakfast spot in Tacoma? Check DOA out! They have the classics as well as fun twists on breakfast staples* that are hot and delicious. Bloody Marys and mimosas are fine- the pours are generous so the whole package is a recipe for a good time. If you're flying solo or with someone who is game, try bellying up to the bar. Chicken wings and sauces - I asked the waitress which way is better for wings (naked or breaded), and she suggested breaded so that's what I went with. It was like fried chicken - a little dry. The sauces were an interesting choice to dip the wings in - like a sweet bbq and an Asian zing sauce. Parmesan Tots - the sauce that we dip them in is off the hook! The tots themselves look like fatter, longer tater tots (hence the name). To go - 50 cents per item to go I think the outside is super cute! read more

End of an era for sure! We used to crave their food and come here weekly. After the fire and re-open, the food was TERRIBLE. Brussels that's we'd come for at least 10 times prior were left hard and crunchy, not crispy fried. Steak sandwich was tough and not tasty. Fish was coated with an oddly mushy batter that was falling off the fish. We were soooo disappointed and expressed our displeasure. Needed a place to try out for breakfast in Tacoma and found this gem. Started with a Bloody Mary which led to Candied Bacon and Tot Dunkers, both were delicious. The parmesan tots are incredible, especially with the gravy to dunk them in. We had the Chicken Fried Steak (I judge places on Chicken Fried Steaks) and the Smoked Pork Hash. I have to put the Chicken Fried Steak as one of the best I have eaten, along with the potatoes and eggs made it a great breakfast. I had a few tastes of the Smoked Pork hash and found the flavors amazing. We had great service and this will be worth a trip to Tacoma again, and again. read more

The first time I came here it was late at night with a bunch of friends. They had music going, the drinks were legit, a lot of people around the pool table... just a really cool place to hang out. Something strange must have happened however because about 10 minutes after they made last call, they were all but kicking us out! And not just us everybody in the bar. It wasn't even 2 a.m. yet it was just after 1 a.m. I felt really bad having to waste my alcohol. Funnily enough the next time I went there was the very next day for brunch with the same friends. Wendy told me you were going to the same place I wondered how that place could have brunch. But sure enough, the place looked different in the daytime. The decor was kind of dark for a brunch spot, but it worked! I ordered a biscuit and gravy with scrambled eggs. It was alright, but I kind of wish I had ordered something else. One of my friends had the seafood scramble, and THAT was pretty good! Ended up having a double "taste" of his scramble. The other friends seemed to enjoy their food was well, one having chicken and waffles, chicken biscuit sandwich and another, eggs Benedict. The chicken was nice and crisp, well seasoned. The third time I was there, it was on black Friday for a pub crawl, and it was actually pretty packed. Good atmosphere. If nothing else come for the tots. That's what I did...well kinda. We were heading to an event not too far from this location and needed something to eat. I did a quick yelp search for food nearby and when this popped up and "tots" was called out in the tips and reviews I was sold. I'm a tot person through and through - say tots and you're speaking my love language. The tots here did not disappoint, and neither did the sandwiches, salads or burgers we got along with them. The ooey gooey inside with the crunch of outside was a pair so obvious that I'm amazed I haven't found them elsewhere. I will say one word of advice for Dirty Oscar's - get some El Tapatio stocked in that place as it would be the perfect compliment to these. read more

WOW WOW WOW. So good. I came twice within 2 weeks because it was so good. The first visit was a Saturday right at prime brunch hour and my friend and I were able to snag the last 2 bar seats before there was a line out the door! We had mimosas which were more champagne than OJ which I always appreciate and prefer :). We ordered the Monte Christo and the corned beef hash. They were both amazing and huge portions. The meat on the hash was brined and smoked or something but it is all done in house. The next time I came it was the morning on a Friday and was fairly empty because people work. But the service was equally as friendly and attentive with great recommendations. This time we had the loco Moco and chicken and waffles. BEST fried chicken I've had hands down. It was so moist but perfectly crispy. It's a smidge expensive but well worth every scent. The one thing to note is that this is a bar. There are no persons under 21 allowed period. Not kid friendly sorry! Definitely do yourself a favor and come try brunch here. read more

The chicken was good, had a alot of flavor and kind of a kick to it. The waffle was not too bad either, would of been a little better with a Belgium waffle though. The server recommended the Dead Elvis Burger cuz, in his words, "It's weird but it works." Damn if he wasn't right. The ingredient combo sounds bizarre but it's so delicious. I've been here 3 times. the first time I had the cauliflower bites which were pretty descent. The drinks were not great. The second time I went with friends for a birthday. The Bloody Mary was absolutely awful. The third time I went with my husband, and the sandwich we shared was, again, just fine, but this time I ordered a beer because I wasn't chancing another crappy cocktail. On a modest side street, in a dark building in Tacoma's Hilltop area is one of the Grit City's secret weapons. Upon entering "DOA", I really didn't know what to expect. It's a bar grill, so it's conservatively lit. Some electric signs weren't quite working like they should. This is where your doubt should stop. You'll sit down to smooth finished rough hewn tables. The menu has an epic selection, though not much in the way of healthy fair, I mean, it's bar food. Wait, don't minimize them because of that. I started off with a " Cold Fashioned"; a Cold Brew Infused Whiskey | Chocolate Liqueur | Brown Sugar | Bitters | Orange Twist, PHENOMINAL flavor. My wife got a cocktail, I think it was seasonal. It was like water melon mojito with vodka instead of rum, the watermelon wedge was pickled, sounds odd, but tasted AMAZING. Our meal started with their Brussels Sprouts, prepared with squash squares, bacon, and a Balsamic glaze, literally the best Brussels I've EVER HAD, a RIDICULOUS PORTION it's size was measurable, and took serious restraint to not finish. I got the BACKYARD BURGER Smoked Pork & Beef Patty | Bacon Candy | BBQ Slaw | Crispy Onion | Mustard | Roasted Garlic Aioli | Pretzel Bun, my wife got the THE STONER Fried Chicken | Parmesan Tots | Smoked Tomato Tartar | Feta | Onion | Pico | Pretzel Bun, we shared our fries, both our sandwiches came with the rosemary fries and were fresh and flavorful, not the best I've had but top 2 isn't a bad place to be. We shared bites of each other's sandwiches and I'll tell you the bacon and BBQ slaw in mine just about changed my life, if not, at least my mood. Nothing I had could have been much better, and I'll return to try breakfast and lunch some other time, ( yet not soon enough). A complete experience all in all, and a reason to celebrate everything there, including the wait staff and bar tenders. My husband and I don't travel to Tacoma often. But when we do we like to look for fun and crazy foods. After some back and fourth, driving to some locations and then seeing that they have since changed their menus, we landed here at Dirty Oscars. Walking in I was a little hesitant. Its got this biker bar feel? Big screen with sports, a little dark and grunge on the inside. And while I don't have a problem with that vibe, its usually a telltale sign that you're going to be served overly fried and salted bar food. BUT my hopes were high because this "Waffle-Rito" on their menu sounded fun, and I couldn't find out much more about it through Yelp. Love me some mysterious food finds. We sat down, ordered Tatchos, and my husband looked over the menu, and what others around us were ordering. I kept my eyes peeled for this mysterious Waffle-rito but nothing seemed to jump out at me from anyones plate. It looked as though everyone was getting the "Colonel's Hash". Which was HUGE. And since the hubs was starving, I kept pushing him to get that. (He doesn't typically make the best 'off the beaten path' food choices like I do, so I sometimes have to help guide him to his right decision ;) ) Anyway! Food Talk. The Tatchos came (My hubs loves Tatchos) and they were really good! I really liked the presentation of them. Like, a chef with this biker "I love a good hole in the wall breakfast, but check out my culinary background" feel. haha! If that makes sense? Anyway, good stuff, but if I came back I still think I would try something else. Then came out the mac daddy! The only reason why you are still probably even reading this. "We want to know about the Waffle-Rito!" You are silently saying to yourself. Okay, So it came out. Wait. First. If you don't know what it is then you need to read the description. Or here, Ill add it for you to make your life easier #convenientmillennial: Bacon stuffed waffle, chorizo, scrambled eggs, onion, Sriracha sour cream, Green chili cream, Pico De Gallo, cilantro. OKAY now that your mouth is watering. This came out and it was HUGE. So, score for me. The waffle itself was so memorable. Im seriously writing this like, a month later and can still taste it. The waffle was so soft and fluffy, with bacon bits but also a sweetness to it. It was folded on top of this mound of scrambled eggs, chorizo, onions and basically everything else mentioned above. With the two sauces drizzled on top. Never in my life have I had anything as fun as this. I wasn't even sure how to eat it! It was so freaking good though. It did have some kick. So if you're a pansy, then I'd be weary-haha. But I love spicy so it was absolutely perfect for me. 100% when we go back Ill be ordering this again. And its rare that I EVER do that, because my life revolves around trying new things. But this, yeah, it was that good. My husband loved his Colonel's Hash. I didn't bother of taking a picture of it though, or really even reviewing it because thats pretty much what most people talk about on here. He did let me have some though, and it was very good! Our server said it was by far their most popular dish and I can see why! Oh yeah!! I literally had a guy some over and asked what I ordered (Waffle-Rito) because it looked so good and different! Stumbled upon this place on a Saturday morning and we were expecting some basic bar breakfast. It gave me a dark divey feel, which I love and when the food came out I was floored!! First off the menu has sooo many choices of food and drink! I've tried the moonshine mimosa and one of the "cold brew" cocktails...thankfully the bartender informed me it's not really coldbrew, instead a liqueur to give it that flavor. Both were delicioso! Came for Sunday brunch. Place was full but got a table immediately for 3. Tons of great sounding items on the menu we had a hard time choosing. Drinks: Bloody Mary & BlackBerry Moonshine Mimosa 10/10 there. Food: Biscuits & Gravy, Two Egg Breakfast & then the Colonels Hash. 8/10. I will say I thought the eggs and such were on the biscuits and then smothered in gravy - so when it wasn't I was a little disappointed. The biscuit was a little drier/firmer than I typically like. The colonels Hash was hands down the winner of dishes though. The seasoning on the fried chicken is great!!! For the two egg breakfast - the hand made sausage patties had a couple spots where the sausage wasn't cooked (still red).
