Discount Plumbing is great at communication. Dispatch contacts you and even the plumber contacts you about the appointment. I even received an email too about it. Frank came by from Discount Plumbing to do the work. He was funny and personable. Didn't take him no longer than maybe 1 1/2 hours. I don't mind paying for labor as all plumbers are roughly the same price. I need some re-plumbing along with a new garbage disposal. The garbage disposal I could of replaced myself but they included the price of a new disposal into the quote. My issue is that for $249, this disposal better be top of the line but it wasn't. It was an off brand named Standard, not American Standard. Just Standard. For $200 I could of bought a 3/4 HP Whirlpool disposal. A brand I like and a brand that all our appliances are. One could even find a 1/2 HP InSinkErator Badger for $75. This is my fault, should of purchased a disposal beforehand so I can take blame for this. At least I would of liked an option but I know that the markup is high if they provide their own. read more

Just wrapped up a repair from DP and I am pleased to say I am VERY happy with my results. The sink was leaking from the garbage disposal last night; I called and asked for availability. Now it's worth mentioning, DP does offer 24 hour services, however if it's a sort of "after hours" issue, it DOES cost more to get someone out there. I opted to get the next available daytime slot, 12pm-2pm. I can only imagine today was busy for them, as the repair worker arrived around 2:20 pm, give or take, BUT the company was considerate enough to gall me around 1:45 pm to let me know things were running a bit behind. I understand that these things happen SO often in repair and maintenance fields, so I'm not going to ding them for running a little late, especially with the courtesy call. Danny was the assigned repair guy, and I gotta give him a big shout out for being a genuinely friendly person and efficient worker. It was the garbage disposal that was bad, and thank goodness they offer that service to replace those! He quoted me my options - either I supply the disposal and the charge is $149, or they supply and install for $249. The best part? He was not at all pushy with the sale, but rather very sympathetic of my situation and the cost. Basically, he didn't make me feel like I was just another dollar to be made, but an actual person with a real issue that needed help. And THAT is a quality I can appreciate more than anything. So long story short, I went ahead with the supply and install on the spot since I do use the kitchen sink and garbage disposal every day, and was VERY pleased with the price as well as the service. I'll absolutely consider Discount Plumbing in the future after this experience! Especially now that I know they do heating and air! I had them run a gas line from my garage into my kitchen to convert an electric stove to a gas range. This was about a year ago and our house hasn't blown up yet! (knock on wood) Very friendly service. It was a two day job and they were on time both days. I decided to help him in the attic, and he was more than appreciative for the help. They also installed a water line to my fridge, luckily for that I already had a portion of drywall out since I was doing a kitchen remodel. I was going to do that myself but since they gave a nice discount for the combined jobs. I had him do that for the added insurance. They bid around the same as the other companies that I had bid on the job, but that is fine because I would question the plumber that comes in a bids low on a gas job. Our toilet had a broken flange. Called Discount plumbing and they came out late. They took off the toilet and said it was $600. It was leaking from the bottom and the toilet is off. I knew a plumber should charge $175-275 for the job and the fact that they charge so much especially in this economy feels like they are taking advantage of people. I wanted to call someone else for half as much but when the toilet is off and you need something fixed you feel overwhelmed and wanting fixed asap. They do good work but the job wasn't worth 2-3 times the money. read more

I called on a Tuesday at 8:30 am with my main sewer line broken. They couldn't get me in until 24 hours later. I accepted the appointment from 8:00 am to 12:00 and was sure to update my phone number with the company (we have used this company before, but we no longer use our land line). On the day of the appointment I decided to call the company at 11:45 (the end of the window of time they gave for our appointment) because I was worried that they accidentally called our old number. The woman said they were running behind, but they would definitely be there. At 6:30pm I called again to see if they would be coming and I was thrown to voicemail. I left a message asking them to call me back and let me know if they were coming in the morning or what was going on. The next morning I called again I was put on hold, then the woman came back and said the technician called and when I didn't answer he went to the next appointment. I told her I checked and I received no calls. She assured me that her phone records say that he did call, and that I had to take the end of the day appointment be ause I missed my previous appointment. I said he could have miss dialed and she said well I called both number as well. Again, I said why don't I have a record of a call? No Ac in my house with over 100 degree weather and my poor elderly mother suffering in the heat. They came after two days to tell me it was the fan motor, and it would be an additional $ 719 dollars. Just bought a new house and my wife promptly orders new washer & dryers. I told her I'm a man and could install them. Just have the big strong guys from Lowe's deliver them so I don't have to lift anything. As I'm hooking up the washer I realize when I turn the water on, I have a small leak coming from the joint of the spouts. One thing I learned, if you have a leak next to your house, you need to call a plumber ASAP. We got Discount Plumbing to come out on a Sunday! Anton came out and explained he could just replace the one that was leaking, but replacing both would be a good idea, he gave me a price for both. I'm not looking to buy a house and go cheap so I had him replace both. He made a quick trip to a hardware store since he said he only had a used paid in his truck. Shortly after he arrived back and fixed them good as new. After that he asked if I wanted him to check the rest of the house, which I appreciated since I had just moved in. He pointed out some things I should do, but explained when I could do it, since I was planning remodeling at the same time. Overall very helpful. We had just purchased our home when we smelled gas. Called PG&E and our gas was shut off until we could fix it. Turns out, we needed our entire gas line replaced! Yikes! Toilet was clogged, so I tried using the plunger to hopefully get the toilet working again. After a few attempts, the toilet just did not want to flush. I called Discount Plumbers because their magnet was left in front of our doors long ago and I kept it on our fridge. The receptionist set up a time frame of when the technician will come out between the hours of 4-6. The guy, didn't even introduce himself with a name, came in and told my husband he will use the snake device down the toilet to get the clog out. After several attempts, the problem was not solved. He was exhausted and claimed that this was his last job of the day and did not expect to work this hard on his last job. Well, his laziness for sure showed that he was checked out and no longer wanted to do anymore work. He claimed that he was going to attempt another way, but it requires a 2 person job. Well, aren't they open 24 hours??? Long story short, he was unable to fix the problem and instructed me to call back the office to reschedule a time for someone to come out tomorrow to fix the plumbing. So I called immediately and the receptionist was gone for the day, so they had a dispatcher who re-took all my information and told me that someone will return my call on Monday after 9 am. However, the guy told me that their office was open 7 days a week and for me to call back tomorrow to follow-up. END RESULT --- He left a dirty undone job for me to clean up and the toilet is still clogged and water was flooding the floors. I had a renter with a backed up toilet and shower on 8/16/21. She called Discount Plumbing and they sent Felix out for an afterhours service call. Felix ran his snake through the main sewer line and did not find anything, but the water did start flowing. Not sure how that works for a multi unit complex when no other units are having any problems. I would think you would have to deal with the unit having problems not the main line that all flow into when no others are backed up. On 8/23/21 the same problem is back. Renter attempted to call Discount Plumbing several times (afterhours again) and there was no answer. When She contacted me about the problem I called the 800 number and they had Felix (the plumber that originally came out) call me back. They came to my rescue when my NEW heater gave out and the company that put it in didn't respond to my call (VLC Heating and Air installed it! The pilot light had gone out of our water heater a couple of days ago and I contacted PG&E to come and check it out and relight. A PG&E technician responded today and advised me that the problem was a broken gasket on the FVIR water heater. He saw that the thermocouple was not installed correctly and told me that that was just a minor/temporary fix, but that it needed a gasket, and that the pilot light kit needed to be replaced and should have been done that at the time. I told him that that particular part (thermocouple) was replaced by a local plumbing company over a year ago. The technician recommended I call a licensed plumbing contractor to fix/replace the needed part. He also said a good plumber will know what the water heater needed upon looking at it. The technician disconnected and capped the gas line to the water heater due to the unsafe condition before leaving. I felt during my contact with the PG&E technician, he was very courteous and patient in explaining what the problem was. He also talked to my husband on the phone regarding the situation. My husband then contacted Discount Plumbing in Manteca ph#800 708-0079, (as this was the business who had replaced the thermocouple last year and also give them an opportunity to rectify the problem) who advised him a plumber will be going to the house to access the problem in a couple of hours. I received a call from the business and the plumber advising me he was on his way and will be at my house shortly. In talking to the plumber who told me his name was Danny, he told me he was the one who had replaced the part(thermocouple) previously (approximately a year ago). He asked what the problem was and I told him that the pilot light had gone out to the water heater and that the PG&E technician had recommended the gasket/pilot light kit be replaced due to the bad/temporary replacement of the thermocouple. Danny told me that PG&E does that all the time, give bad advise, but will check it out when he gets to my house. I felt while talking to Danny, he got defensive upon me telling him what the PG&E technician had said. We both then hung up and he arrived shortly after. Upon arrival, Danny inspected the water heater, and told me he has seen this problem all the time, and just replaces the thermocouple. He also told me there was no guarantee that once he replaces the thermocouple, on how long it will work, it may go out again. After hearing that, I thought to myself, wouldn't it be better to replace the pilot light kit, instead of the temporary fix/replacement of the thermocouple? Just a thought, as I don't know anything about water heaters. At no time did he suggest or say the gasket/ pilot light kit needs replacing. Danny gave me several options, to include buying the thermocouple and replacing it myself, calling the manufacturer of the water heater and order the needed part(s), or he can replace the thermocouple and for the part and labor it will be $225.00. I told him I wanted to call my husband to discuss the options, which I did. My husband requested to talk to Danny, in which I handed Danny my phone and put it on speaker so I can hear the conversation also. While listening to the conversation, I heard my husband ask questions regarding the options and the cost. I could hear Danny's responding in a rude manner, and kept interrupting my husband, not allowing him to complete his sentences. At no time was my husband rude to Danny during the conversation. I then heard Danny say to the effect, "we're done here" in which my husband told him to leave the premises (we were in the garage at the time), handed me the phone, and while walking down the driveway to his work truck, I heard him say, "That's bullshit", got into his work truck and sped off, and I saw him on his cellphone while driving off, which of course, as we all know is illegal. My husband then called the business to talk to the owner regarding Danny's attitude, and was told by the person who answered the phone he could not talk to him as Danny had called in and complained about my husband and that the owner will call my husband within 48hours. Since this happened at approximately 3:30 pm, we are still awaiting a call. I also called the water heater manufacturer regarding the needed part(s), (per Danny's recommendation) and the person I spoke to knew right away what I needed and gave me the part number, and will be sending me the pilot assembly replacement kit. At no time did this person even recommend replacing only the thermocouple. My point to this is, is Danny and/or the business being honest to their customers, and/or do they practice minor/temporary fixes, charge them, in the hopes of going back to same customers to fix it again and make more money. Danny was rude, lacked customer service, and I felt it was all about the money and temporary fixes. PG&E had nothing to gain by this, they were just doing their job in making their customers safe. The water was shut off and I am an able to use the water. They were unable to accommodate that afternoon but said he will have somebody out first thing in the morning. At 8:30 today Isaac came to fix our tub shower valve/ handle. He was very personable and knowledgeable. He explained everything he was going to do and what he did after he completed the job. I don't give 5 stars very often but this company has Forest working for them. Smart decision on their part. I had HUGE issues with every pipe going to the main line being damaged and leaking in one way or another. Not what we expected to find. You would think with the extra work needing to be done, that bid would have doubled! IT DID NOT, and in fact it did not go over the original bid and I was even able to get a line put in for black tank dump. Forest was able to make me feel secure in everything he was doing and I never worried about being ripped off. I had a majorly soggy yard. The plumber I called refused to do the work saying it was a plumbing issue. Several plumbers refused the work says it was a landscape issue. No one wanted to help. When I contacted Discount Plumbing they were happy to send someone out to evaluate the issue. Well, it because a large plumbing issue (too bad first three plumbers you lost out on a big job!) and very expensive. Felix from Discount Plumbing was wonderful. He searched and searched until he diagnosed the issue. In the end it took about a week's work, two visits from the water company inspector and a backhoe to get the job done. How can I select zero stars??? To say that I am extremely disappointed by this business is an extreme understatement. While I was at work, I received a call from a from my tenant that the kitchen sink was backed up. I had perviously worked with Discount Plumbing before and gave them a call and a plumber ended up showing up. It was a simple use of a snake and the I was quoted $129.00 for the service. Not a big deal. here was a confusion on my part about the billing, I thought they would send me a bill. (Perviously they had) However the plumber left me a message saying I had to make a payment over the phone. Again not a big deal. I called once and they didn't pick up. Called a second time and was put on hold for 10 minutes. I hung up because my break had finished. Called a third time and spoke to a representative named Jamie. I had purchased the Yelp offer that provided 25 Dollars off a service however Jamie refused to accept it because I did not tell the plumber when they diagnosed the problem. Keep in mind this was a 30 second conversation with the plumber. Jamie was EXTREMELY rude when I explained why I did not mention the offer to the plumber. Heck it was only a 25 dollar discount and this was the 3rd time I had called to PAY THEM! I had a insurance plan that perviously paid this company nearly 8 thousand dollars for a job. I know it was not money directly from my pocket but hey that should earn some sort of common courtesy. Jamie then hung up the phone when I asked for an email of the receipt. Again for a 25 dollar discount. I understand not wanting to honor it, but please be courtesy to the consumer. This is the second time I've done business with this outfit and both times were unsatisfactory. The first time, I received a bill for about $300 for replacing a faucet that took about an hour. The service person did not give me an estimate and I should have known better. The second time was to replace a hot water heater. This time, the service was through Lowe's so I had no idea who was coming out. The first words out of the plumber's mouth were "This doesn't include code upgrades and that will cost you another $300." I called Lowe's back and they said they'd cover it. When the job was done, I asked the plumber what exactly wasn't covered since I could see the hookup looked exactly like the old hookup. He said it didn't include turning off the gas and water or draining the hot water heater. Those are NOT code upgrades but simply what must be done to replace a hot water heater. So, these guys were going to charge $575 to take out an old heater and put in the new one. Wow. A great business to be in. A couple of hours buys them almost $600. I'd rather deal with local plumbers who routinely charge $80-$100 per hour and don't try to scam people with the misnomer of 'Discount Plumbing." There's nothing discount about this company. Read the other reviews and I think you'll see that lots of folks feel exactly the same. read more

I called the office in the morning and a girl answered my phone. I told her I need someone to hook up my gas line for outdoor kitchen. She sent a guy named Roger to my house and gave me an estimate. I showed the all the work. One side needed to connect to the house and another side to my kitchen island. Roger seems nice so I asked if he can do the water sink also. He asked me if I need hot water. I think it's unnecessary since I'm not going to use much the sink in such outdoor sitting. Roger recommended me mini water heater which cost about a hundred something in stores. He quoted me $325 for connecting gas pipes and cold water in and out. I agreed the price and asked how much it would be if I want add the water heater. He told me that would be $375. I agreed the price and we made an appointment for 2-day later. After Roger left, I went to HomeDepot and Orchard Supply Hardware in town trying to find the mini water heater with no success. I called back the number and since it's off hour, some guy answered at home. I explained the water heater thing and told him I would pay the parts if Roger can bring me one. The day finally came and Roger called me saying that he will go to HomeDepot to get the heater thing. I told him that I couldn't find there and he thought I might not in the right spot or right department. So later he showed up with no success finding the heat water thing. He went a head finished all of the work. Now it's Bill time when all the drama starts. Before he going to write receipt, I asked him if I can use the Yelp $25 for $50 deal. He agreed. But the final number is $523 which include $500 services fee plus $48 parts with $25 discount. I was shocked since the number is way off from the estimate. Now Roger denied all of his quote from two days earlier. He said He quoted me $485 plus parts. I told him he's never mentioned parts in the beginning. He question me if I expecting all the parts for free. I asked for the part receipt and he said it's in his truck and it's his cost not my business. I pointed him out the two quotes he gave me the other day, and he responded that they have never had such hourly rate. How do I care your hourly rate when you give me a flat rate? I questioned why didn't he stick with his quote and he started count what job he has been done. I told him I don't care what he had been done, I showed the work and got an estimate. He said regardless your this and this is illegal and I still did your job. Wait....Do I smell a black mail. yes, Some parts I haven't get time to deal yet but it doesn't mean I will not get the permits later on. I told him I'm gonna write a long review on Yelp and will file complaints. I gave him my credit card asked him just charge whatever he wants. Roger finally lowered the price to $385. Which is still not the estimate he gave me. So when you want deal with this company/him again, please don't forget to have an estimate print out or at lease something in writing!!! read more

After repairing the sewer line, Frank Hampton, of Tracy Discount Plumbing told my parents (George 89 yrs and Ruth 85yrs Briggs) that the side walk now looks old and dirty and gave a quote of $1600 to replace it. My mother informed me of this and I asked to see the contract. Frank did not want to have a paper trail as he was performing this work on his own. Next, Frank had my 89 year old father ride with him to fill up his truck with gas or he "can not complete the sidewalk and it will stay that way" A little later that day Frank had my dad accompany him to Home Depot and pay for the materials needed to pour the side walk. When my mother called crying over this person treating them this way I called to complain to Discount Plumbing. I spoke to Mark. I did not want Frank Hampton coming back to my parents home to intimidate them any more. Mark assured me he would not. Frank came to my parent's home again! To ask why they did not want the work completed. Mark said he would take care of Frank again and also gave us a quote of $1000.00 (his cost) to replace the sidewalk. I obtained a quote from another cement contractor for $785.00 Mark from Discount Plumbing had the dirt removed. Mark wanted to give my parent $100 to buy flowers and $80 for the gas and supplies that my father had to buy. After speaking several times with Mark and learning he was going to give them $135 I said they should have at least $300 for the plants and $80 for cost. What also disturbs me is Discount plumbing also does landscaping. Mark did not offer to repair this damage but to give my elderly Mother and Father so they could do the work. read more

They arrived in about an hour and had the problem fixed shortly after that. Their guy had everything he needed in his truck, so I didn't have to wait for him to go back to the shop for parts. I signed up on yelp to post this review. I'm frankly embarrassed about being taken by Discount Plumbing. I fell for it all - no estimate, no signed contract, lots of "don't worry, we'll take care of you", etc... based on the trust I had developed in the plumber/conman's previous visit for a drain cleaning and his friendly patter. And, in the end, $2000 for replacing a water heater and some minor, adjacent and associated pipe rerouting. When questioned about the price, the plumber/conman pulled out his glossy laminated "handbook" that, wink, wink, he was "not supposed to show me" - even though it was obviously prepared for the consumer/sucker's perusal - to prove to me that his "standard rate" is, as shown in the "handbook", $400 per hour. After I wrote the yelp review, someone from Discount Plumbing contacted me to let me know that they were going to refund me my money. Although I never expected this, I am happy that they have taken my feedback seriously to improve how they conduct business. The reason I am not going to give a 4 star is because I still believe a few basic measures need to be put in place such as training the staff to be able to deal with all kinds of plumbing/gas issues, investing in the right equipment to be able to detect gas leaks (pressure tester), and customer service by the field staff. Smiling at a customer and politely slapping them with a bill for unauthorized work does not mean good customer service. read more
