I love having this Asian grocery store in the area! Its prices are so much more reasonable than Kai Market, and it has a tremendously larger selection of food than Kai Market. Key items that I get here on a regular basis are packaged ramen noodles (they have all the varieties that you thought you ever needed, and then some!), all kinds of baby mushrooms to add into said cooked ramen noodles, and their poke bowls! My goodness, I love their poke bowls so much (especially since during COVID Kai Market SLU is temporarily closed). And while the produce may have something to be desired here, I honestly don't care. There's a Whole Foods around the corner if you need something specific. In short, I love District H!! So glad you're in the SLU neighborhood! read more

Interesting grocery/restaurant/bakery style convenience store located in the retail section of KIARA. I've been through 3 times now, and although it's evident they're working out some growing pains (cashier issues, training, etc), it's nice to see the variety of fresh items available for purchase, and the grill area ready to serve what appears to be tasty Korean style BBQ. The hot bar is usually fully stocked by 10am, so early morning cravings for soon-de (sp?) will have to wait until mid morning. I purchased some poke, a chef's special (scallops), and some fruit/vegetables last night. Everything tasted fine (the poke is almost on par with KAI Market) and the fruit selection was fresh (although mislabeled, so we had a minor hiccup trying to purchase the right apples). The squid and short ribs from the KBBQ station were decent - a little on the pricey side, but that's acceptable given the area and convenience. I liked the side of vegetables and kimchi fried rice that accompanied the dish - very flavorful and not skimpy on spice. In retrospect, it would have been nice to have a soft opening to get through the initial bumps of operations, but the convenience of having something on the first floor of my apartment makes it forgivable. I was looking for the "hours of operation" and wasn't able to locate them on the door or inside, but i'm hoping for extended hours for those that work well into the evening. I also heard musings of a "room service" type offering that KIARA residents could utilize, but no further clarification on that either. I think that's a great idea (if it does materialize), and provides strong competition for the Wild Ginger room service at the McKenzie. read more

A distinct lack of any vegetarian or vegan grab and go options seems decidedly out of place in this neighborhood, especially when I can get so much more just around the corner. But most importantly the food is not very good and overpriced for what you get. District H is the first Korean chain grocery store to open in Seattle's bustling 9-5 SLU neighborhood, offering everything from fresh produce and pre-packaged trimmed raw meats, to (mostly) freshly made bakeries and cakes from their Tous les Jours in-house location, to pre-made packaged Korean foods at the Grab-n-Go Station, to in-house made-to-order meal stations, including: Steam Station, Grill Station, and a Sushi Station Hours: Market: 8am-930pm, daily. Steam/Grill/Sushi Stations: 11am-5pm, or until food runs out (by 1pm weekdays at times). Grab-n-Go Station (pre-made meals and deli) available all day. I find myself having to explain to them my intentions, such as cutting down personal carbon footprint / plastic wastes / and such, before they would put foods in my reusable containers and not stick their plastic fork in it or wrap it in some single-use bag. As for produce, I no longer shop here. Whole Foods have an large organic and local produce section with fresh greens & veggies not wrapped in plastics. Who wants to eat plastics when studies show petroleum being known endocrine disrupters to cause multiple health conditions. - Workday lunch hour rush is crazy busy (plus limited parking). - Hit and miss with the service. Most workers are very friendly and accommodating, some are outright rude and shortcoming, some have inaccurate answers (probably due to store's newness and training not yet up to date). Luck of a draw. Got four vastly different answers to the same question from four different employees and managers on site on two different days. For store questions or concerns, they recommend their headquartered website--No, thank you. Grab-n-Go Station: - great for time constraints, but avoid if possible. Tons of plastic wastes. And if you do use (plastics), you're technically supposed to dump out any remaining foods and sauces into the compost bin first, wipe it clean, and then put it in the recycling bin. Whichever case, don't throw it in the trash! - offerings: deep fried foods and snacks, hot meal bowls, rice bowls, noodle bowls, poké, sashimi bowls, pickled veggies, kimchi, etc. - decent meal for ~$10 - fridge offerings: single canned beverages, Asian snacks, etc. Order Stations: - again, tons of plastic wastes. Bring your reusables and ask them to use your reusable containers. I ordered the pork belly from the grilling station. Disappointed that it was bot cooked with a korean flavor, rather a teriyaki pork belly. The fried rice was something you could get at a chinese deli. And the vegetables they gave you with the meal was American bell peppers and baby corn. Odd combination for a korean meal. Did District H deceive us? We went during their grand opening. My coworkers and I were amazed at how huge the dumplings were! Now, they are tiny. I have to buy another dish just to feel like I won't be hungry anymore. We cannot justify the price for these as it seems you get less now. The bibimbops come out to about $13 and some change after tax. You barely get any meat and toppings (mostly rice). Honestly, just because this place is in SLU, shouldn't mean you pay $$$ for food that is supposed to be cheaper. A lot of the prepared hot food (best the front entrance) is dry as well. read more

This HMart is wonderful! It has a wide selection of fresh cooked meals (chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu curry, beef bulbogi, etc) which are all really yummy. They also have an attached tours de jours. I recommend the curry croquettes! The grocery store area is very clean and well maintained. Grocery (4/5): The grocery is stocked with a lot of Korean food that would be hard to find elsewhere, even at International District Uwajimaya. Prices are pretty comparible to Uwajimaya. The meat and produce offerings seem minimal, but I don't go to H-Mart for that (I go for the candy, junk food and bottled sauces). Food (3/5): District H not only contains a grocery store but various food counters as well. The counters are in a separate section include dumpling counter, rice-based dish counter, and a grill. First thing to note is that you don't order the food at the counter, but instead, at some tablets near the entrance of the store (When you walk in through the largest entrance, follow the right wall and you will get to the tablets). I ordered short-ribs from the grill, which contained some steamed vegetables (yellow squash, zucchini, steamed cauliflower, broccoli, red/green peppers), kimchi rice and a long-ish strip of short-rib cut into pieces. Also note that you can choose between rice and kimchi rice in the tablet (bringing that up because it seems easy to miss). The short ribs were of high quality, fatty meat, were really well cooked and had great smoky grill flavor. However, everything else lacked the Korean flavor I'm accustomed to. For example, the kimchi tasted fermented but was missing something (maybe too little gochujaru or none at all?). The short ribs also didn't have the typical kalbi flavor (not sweet or savory enough). The grill itself has a dozen or so bar seats and you can find seating around the food area. There's self-serve water and compostable utensils. Takeout (N/A): There is a section of the store near the entrance that contains a lot of pre-made foods like sushi and poke bowls. I haven't tried these yet. read more

The beef dumplings and squid dish are excellent. The tuna roll was made with what appeared to be canned tuna and tasted like cat food. It was not chunks of nice pink tuna like one normally expects from a tuna roll. I couldn't even swallow one bite. The grocery selection is wonderful though. Nice addition to the SLU area that provides variety in groceries and fresh prepared food options. Prices are pretty reasonable for the area (ex. $5.99 for bulgogi kimbap; $8.99 for bowls in the grab and go section). I like how there's also a bakery where you can buy your Asian pastries, bread, and cakes ($2-$5 for buns, croissants, donuts). This place is a madhouse during lunch hours with people everywhere. The layout of the store could be better to: 1) make it easier to grab and go without getting in the way of people who are browsing, and 2) allow for wheelchairs and strollers access since there are a few small flights of stairs/steps to access the grill/bakery and then to exit from the bakery. Overall, it's a great option as an Asian version of Whole Foods' hot bar/grab and go. read more

amazing snacks and such for amazing prices, perfect for all the broke college students nearby. they've done a wonderful job of adapting to the current epidemic, however, I noticed that there were no "one way" decals on the floor. to be honest, I'm not sure if the whole "one way" thing is an essential part of running an establishment during COVID, but I think it would be nice for them to consider. besides that, all the employees were wearing efficient masks. would definitely recommend. read more
