There are too many rules going into this establishment. First we were greeted at the door by a nice young lady who told us the rules before we sat down. The rules are: There is an 18% gratuity automatic put on the bill. No splitting of the bill. There is one bill per table. If you use a credit card, there will be an additional 3.9% additional charge. We never sat down to taste the food. There are too many rules at this place. We left after being seated and before placing our order. I don't appreciate being given rules at establishments. If the service is good I have given the server a cash tip according to service. I have given a 20 to 30%. Servers do not make enough. Establishments need to pay their servers instead of making tips part of their salary. Servers have to pay taxes on their tip on the bill. That's why I give them a cash tip even if I use my credit card to pay the bill. Then you have to pay a charge to use your credit card..... I'm out! read more

I have been coming here for 10+ and order the same dish the same way every time. Seafood pasta with spicy chipotle. Date of last service the spicy was extreme. Manager refused to refund or remake or offer some regular alfredo sauce to off set the spicy. When mentioned to the manager she had an attitude and threatened to call police. Jonhnny cakes served cold . Drinks were literally watered downed and the server was offended cause he made it himself. No bartender - they missing out on real money by keeping bar closed all the time . The staff have a very weird vibe but i tipped anyway cause mayb they cant help they weird idk. Food here at Dixie Kitchen was excellent! I had their Seafood cakes, Mac n cheese, and their fried green tomatoes. All the food I ordered was delicious and has reasonable prices. I am really impressed and satisfied. They made it to perfection and served all of it on time. Their place was huge and well-organized, they have interesting decor and designs. Clean and cozy place. The manager is AWFUL and unprofessional, the food is inconsistent, and the sides are mediocre. This place nickel and dimes you for everything. They even charge you for tartar sauce which they call remoulade sauce. They also have added fees if you use a credit card which is hidden into the check amount, added gratuity, and no splitting checks. The service isn't great. They don't check on you for refills, etc. The only good thing there are the fried tomatoes but they are inconsistent. Sometimes great, other times hard cores and lacking batter. Catfish is hit or miss. Sometimes it's great, other times lacking flavor and soggy on the bottom. Fried wings are the smallest wings I've seen in my life. Mash potatoes blah, Mac n cheese blah, red beans, rice blah, and peach cobbler way too sweet. The fries and sweet tea are good. Dill sauce with the fried tomatoes are great but that's another added amount. I think the "credit card fee" is a way to grab more money from people. read more

Food is delicious. Service is mediocre, I'm assuming it's like that because of the added gratuity. You don't have to work that hard as a server when you're already getting 18% gratuity. Note to the sever, you could get extra if you just do your best regardless of the gratuity being added, guest would want to give you more if the service was stellar which it's below average. They could have directly seasoned the pork chops better or more, instead of relying on the gravy. Another critique is the ceiling was leaking and dripping on the next booth. Every trip to Dixie Kitchen has been outstanding! The service was amazing! We started with the homemade green fried tomatoes which were delicious! The Louisiana Lemonade is a drink we love to order and it was so good! Our entree was the Cajun Chicken Pasta which was perfect! Last, we finished with the Key Lime Pie and a Mudslide! The food is always good here. They have been at this location for about a year now and they have blossomed. I have tried pork chops, fried chicken, cat fish and the jambalaya. The food here was DELICIOUS!! The mac n cheese was the best I've ever had! Something about it was so mouthwatering, juicy, creamy, flavorful, and delectable!! The fried catfish was also very very good - perfect texture and seasoned well! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be back as soon as I can! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the waitress took about 20mins to come to our table and take our order and then once we ordered, it took another 45mins (minimum) for the food to be served! To her defense, when we first sat down, she did come and tell us that she would be back and I could tell that she was super busy and literally running around like crazy but she was sweet as pie, very nice young lady! Customer service was bad our waitress Bre disappeared often for 25 minutes. Never asked how our appetizers and drinks were . The jerk salmon the jerk sauce was burned to crisp on top ! This establishment does not accept food back .. even if food was prepared bad . Charges 18% gratuity , which means if service is bad u still pay your bad server . BEWARE- It's a shame I must leave this review, but after my visit yesterday, i don't ever want to return. First of all upon entry you're greeted with all sorts of typed signs telling you about changes to prices, what you can and cant do, fees that are automatically included, etc. That was the first sign to walk out. Decided to stay anyhow, the host refused to let us sit at the table until it was set with menus and glasses of water...say what? Who does that? Just to bring us back out more water because we don't like ice, weird. Tried sitting at the bar, it was closed, but you can order drinks from your server, whatever. Proceeded to order, the jerk wings were under cooked, hard, flavorless and disgusting. All other food ordered was very tasty. So why am I leaving a one star review??? After thoroughly reading the signs that say no food can be returned, I ordered a side that the waitress got wrong. Upon mentioning it to her, she asked did I eat out of the dish that sat in front of me for at least 10mins. Actually I did, but baffled by this question I go why are you asking? She honestly tells me that they will recycle the food back into the kitchen and serve it to someone else. My entire table now disgusted, shocked and in disbelief no longer want to finish our recycled food. Matter of fact, im sure this is an issue for the Department of Health. This is flat out absurd and if this business is in that much bad shape, perhaps they should close. This is the first time I have been to a restaurant and it was like signing a contract. What I !mean by that is read the fine print on the menu. There are a few stipulations actually marked on every page. The one that got to me was that a party of five, yes I said five, or more would have 20% gratuity automatically charged to their bill. I have never seen this set so low as to a five person party. There was also a stipulation if you are caught sharing drinks you would be charged. OK don't think that this is a complete rant of the rules because the food was pretty good. A bit upset that a place serving Louisiana inspired dishes did not have any boudin. I order the jambalaya and it was good. I was not expecting it to be as soupy as it was because many of the jambalaya servings I experienced it was thicker and more of a rice mixture. Hey everyone has their recipes and that is part of the fun of trying new things. It was flavorful but did not have a kick that I was hoping for. After living on the gulf coast for the past gew years i like some spice. There was a fair share of chicken and andouille in the jambalaya which was nice. The portion size for $10 was amazing only made better by the taste. I also had an order of fried green tomatoes that were excellently seasoned. If you use your GPS to get here don't be frustrated. It will lead you in the right area but this place is in the corner of a very small strip mall and behind a bank which will block your view depending on your approach angle. If you have a shellfish allergy do not eat at Dixie Kitchen. Tonight's manager on duty refused to cook food for me. Told me that I was a liability when I asked for baked fish. Even the johnny cakes are cross contaminated. I told her it isn't my fault your kitchen doesn't practice sanitation policies. No apologies or nothing just that it's too huge of a liability. Tried Dixie Kitchen for the first time. Fiancé opted for carryout. I had the Seafood cakes with mac n cheese and greens. I really enjoyed the seafood cakes. Flavor was good although could have been a slightly thicker patty. The sides were less than spectacular. The mac n Cheese was ok. Puts me in mind of Stoufer's Mac n Cheese. But the greens you can take a pass on. While the flavor was ok, the grittiness you may want to take a pass on. While I would order the seafood cakes again, I would advise on choosing alternative sides. read more

One of my closet friends picked this restaurant for Ladies Night. I remember they had a location in Hyde Park that I visited back in the day. This location is out in Lansing. We arrived around 7ish and the parking lot was filled to capacity. After, driving around the lot for a minute we were able to find a parking space. I was just hoping the food and drinks were up to standard. Good thing we only waited like 20 minutes to get a table. We lucked up and got a table seated by the DJ. Yes, Dixie Kitchen has a live DJ on Friday's. Our server for the evening was the super attentive and sweet Ben. He was an outstanding server. We all started off with a drink called the "Swamp Water" ( spiced rum, melon, Blue Curacao, pineapple juice, mango puree and shaved ice in a mason glass. Very Delicious. It hit the spot. To start things off I order a cup of Jambalaya (nice spicy tomato based stew with chicken and andouille sausage topped with green onions. O My it was just that good. We all shared the fried green tomatoes sliced and deep fried in a crispy batter that was garnished with green onions and shredded lettuce. I was never a big fan of fried green tomatoes. But, Dixie's fried green tomatoes were perfectly fried in a nice crispy batter. The flavors and spices had a nicely blended taste. The atmosphere was grown and sexy. Everyone was interacting and having a great time. This is a nice after work spot to come out and enjoy yourself. It was great evening, the food was decent and great service. The only thing that pissed me off was when we were ready to ordered our entrees. Our server Ben had to deliver us bad news that they ran out of the whole baby catfish and chicken wings. Excuse me. Like ok how do you run out of the main headline entrée that is on the menu? I quickly called over the manager who explained to me that there was an issue with the food ordering. No apologizes or come back and we would honor you and your friends a free drink or appetizer. Nothing. That is why I knocked off that one star. Other than that hiccup. WARNING: long review I really wanted to like this place because I used to go to the one in Evanston and the service and food was amazing. If it weren't for the waitress, the seafood cakes and the sangria I would have given this place 0 stars and that's due to the "manager/owners" customer service. My husband and I ordered our appetizer and our food at the same time. The appetizers came out nice and hot and were really good. The problem came in with the entree. My husband and daughter ordered the catfish and I ordered the smothered pork chops. The food looked amazing BUT the problem that I had was my pork wasn't cooked all the way, I didn't even mention that the food was just warm and not hot. I let the waitress know that my chops were a little pink and she told me she would go and get the manager. The manger came over and says " hi, what's going on?" I let her know that my pork chops weren't cooked all the way and she stops me and goes " ok well , let me go and get my fluorescent light and take a look". I looked at my husband like really? She comes back a few mins later with her CELLPHONE flashlight and tells me "it looks fine to me" I tell her no, it's not fine and that I also cook and it's pink. The bone where the meat is attached is pink and the middle is mushy. She tells me "ok ,we're not going to go back and forth" and I just looked at her, ma'am this is not a back and forth I'm telling you this is pink . So I put my flashlight on my phone and she says "oh I agree with you now, I see it is pink". She takes the food back to the cook and comes back and says "we put it under the lights and the cook said it's not pink " now I am PISSED because I'm telling you this is MY food and it's pink to me! She asked me if I wanted anything else and by this time I'm to the point where I don't want anything else except the check. I told her I'm fine I will just eat the Mac and cheese. All she had to do was say ma'am, I'm sorry we will cook it a little bit longer because I really wanted those pork chops, but for her to just go back and forth with me and say it's not pink and then say oh yes it is and then comes back and says no, me and the chef agreed your wrong and it's not pink really rubbed me the wrong way. I have never been to a restaurant where the manager wants to go back and forth with you regarding the way your food is cooked. I can understand if I ate half or my most of the food and said it's pink but I literally took one bite of it and let the waitress know my issue. This was my first time ever visiting this location due to the others being closed and I can say it will be the last. Which sucks because my mom loves this place and I would have loved to take her to eat for lunch or dinner. I really wish I would have taken a picture. If you're looking for affordable Cajun check this place out! My husband swears by their shrimp po'boys ($14). The shrimp are always crispy & cooked properly. I don't eat shrimp but the sandwich looks like a messy good time to me! My usual order is either the fried chicken ($15) or the Cajun Chicken Pasta ($15). The fried chicken is made to order, so be aware of the additional time required. It is so worth the wait. Four pieces of crispy, juicy homestyle fried chicken that you will swear someone's mama made you. The Cajun Chicken Pasta is not to be missed. Blackened chicken with roasted red and green peppers & tomato served over fettuccine with an amazing spicy Cajun version of alfredo sauce. So, if you've always thought, ya know what would make chicken alfredo better? The answer is Cajun spices! It is absolutely addictive. We tend to do take out as the dining room is usually hopping.
