This is a nice, cozy cafe run by friendly people who serve up simple, tasty food. The avocado toast is delicious and the apple turnover with vanilla ice cream was to die for. I can't believe I have in town this long and had not stopped in sooner. There is apparently some sort of controversy happening that the long time locals are up in arms about concerning this cafe. I haven't really followed it nor do I intend to. All I know is they offer tasty food and friendly service.

Came here as a mid-stop on our way to NC to visit family. You Yelpers were accurate in your reviews! We had a very nice breakfast. We were seated quickly and got to sit in the outdoor patio which just had the heat turned on. Our waitress immediately got to us and had the Southern Charm. Our drink orders got out right away. My ham and egg biscuit sandwich with cheddar was excellent with a fluffy biscuit. The well done at my request home fries were some of the best I've had. Maybe a little on the blackened side but still very tasty. My kid's "healthy" parfait of yogurt, granola, and packed blueberries was finished in a jiffy, and the waffles and eggs my wife and other kid got also were quite nice. After several hours on the road, this hit the spot and it was easy to get to off the highway. Men's room had the movie theater sticky floor but the best sign ever. Coke products! Yeah! $52 not including tip. Friendly service. They will break $100s here!

Good day, I have left a review before, but I had to come back and leave a review for breakfast. As usual service was good. Breakfast was just as good as lunch. The atmosphere was very pleasant. When you can actually hear the music playing in the background that's a good vibe for me. For those wondering you need not wonder, stop by there is something on the menu for everyone.

Best 2022 hot dog award. We have to come back for that.

The 2 of us shared 1 breakfast and had plenty. Our hash, 2 eggs and Corn Cake (biscuit substitute) breakfast was delicious. The hash was crispy brown on the outside-just as we like it. The over-easy eggs atop the hash adds to the perfect flavors. This Corn Cake thing was new for us. It's a pancake made from cornmeal instead of flour. We added syrup which was already at the table for a wonderful tasting experience. We were to early for lunch. Lunch didn't start until 11AM so we couldn't order off that menu but saw a few things we wouldn't mind trying. When an outfit is the best hotdog joint in a city, that's an item to try IMO. It's on out next time list. We were on our way to Greenville SC. This is an easy off/on Interstate stop and worth the effort if you are in the area.

Great little place in the d downtown Petersbhrg. I lived the feel of the area. Dixie's is absolutely the most adorable.ppace with friendly people. The food was good and came out quickly. The coffee was hot and strong, my kinda cup of joe!!! The place was immaculate, clean, and smelled like home cooking to this New Englander. Waitress was absolutely the best!!! I'd say stop in, grab a bite, and walk the shops!!

So I finally tried Dixie Restaurant "On my random day off", and from my first impression it was a good one. The staff greeted me as soon as I walked in and sat at the bar and was very friendly. From the past reviews I went in going to try their hot dogs which they are known for. I went with the slaw dog it was pretty tasty. I will say if you come with an appetite get two dogs for they are not the big plump kind. I also decided to try the fried wing dinner which comes with fries and cole slaw. Was it the best wings ever tasted? No, but they were not the worst. My meal came in a timely manner and was nice and hot so that was a plus. They have a lot to offer on the menu, and the prices are great my meal came to $11.74, which means I will be back. The only reason at this point I give them four stars is because they close at 3p.m. and breakfast stops at 11a.m. I REEEEEAAAAALLY wanted to try the sweet potato pancakes. Granted they have been around for a long time and the 3p.m. closing obviously isn't hurting their business. I feel if they are indeed going to close that early where the majority of folks that work a 9-5, have to be off or wait on Saturdays, because they are closed on Sundays, to try breakfast I don't see why they can't serve it all day until 3p.m. LOL other than that lack of me getting breakfast rant, I say when you do "find the time" check Dixie Restaurant out. read more

Welcomed is the first feeling I got when I walked in. Semi busy for a Friday morning and everyone was very friendly in the place. You could not have more than a few sips of water or your coffee before someone asking you if you need a refill. Service is excellent. I ordered the salted herring and it was delicious. However, I must warn you that it is salty and I needed every bit of my grits and biscuit to balance it out. Can't hate on them for having an accurate description. Would love to come back to try the other options. read more

Amazing!!!! My sister in law and I ate here with my baby and the food was perfection!! She had the Sweet southern omelette with grits and corn cakes and I made my own Omelette and had some corn cakes as well. The portion was a perfect size. Not too big and not too small where you'd still be hungry. The topping on the cake was service! When you go out to a restaurant and pay a good amount on food, you'd better be getting great service! This is the perfect place! Our drinks never went empty and we never felt unnoticed. Hands down my family's new breakfast/brunch spot!!! read more

This restaurant was a very quiet and sweet spot in the small town of Petersburg. You meet the nice locals and get a really good dining experience! The staff was very courteous and gave us a surprise with some great old timey southern hospitality. My wife and I both had the amazing Reuben dogs with those great chili fries! To top our dining experience, the bread pudding was to die for! I give it a solid 4.7 stars and would recommend this place to anyone in the area. read more

Great food, excellent service. We stopped here twice while visiting the area. Gotta love a greasy spoon diner like this. Very cozy feel. I am bicycling from Key West to Canada and rolled into Petersburg this past Tuesday and stopped at the Dixie Restaurant. It is a quintessential welcoming small town place. The owners are part of the mix, serving coffee, visiting with folks. I had a great meal, served by the friendliest of staff. Don't miss this place! Thanks for a great visit and meal! read more

Sooooo good! Right off 95. Do yourself a favor a skip the fast food and try Dixie Restaurant!! I had the chicken and dumplings, deviled eggs and stewed tomatoes. Wow! Yum! If your are not a regular here, expect to wait for your service and when you finally get it expect for it to be dismissive as if you are just taking up counter space. The breakfast is actually pretty good but the Lunch is terrible. The hot dogs are small and have no flavor. The burgers are over cooked and the fries are terrible. I have been here three times now and every time it's the same way. Normally I love mom and pop places like this and I will choose them over chains every time, but I will never eat here again read more

Food was very good. I had the chicken wing basket with fries... Service was not up to par due to the waitress. She was not helpful nor was she able to recommend anything. I asked her if the cloeslaw was vinegar based she said yes but it was not. The waitress around us were much better... Try the special omlette-Shrimp, cheese, old bay, tomato, and green peppers. They serve it often, not on the menu but they'll post it on the board when available. It's always packed so you might have to wait for a table but it's worth it. read more

Great place! I went in on Saturday by myself and sat at the bar. Just busy enough to be comfortable and interesting. Nice diner fare. Food came reasonably quick and the staff was very friendly and attentive. They customized my order for me and my Grilled cheese with tomatoes and Va ham was excellent. Spoon bream was also great. The Dixie is a gem of a place. The breakfast is quite southern (without being greasy) and the service is efficient and courteous. I enjoyed every morsel, and so did my guest. We were checking out downtown Petersburg while visiting Virginia. Friendly service and good home style food. My husband enjoyed the fried catfish and I had a scoop of Chicken salad on a side salad. I arrived at 2:47pm and was glad I had called. My order was hot and ready to go. I took it back outside to enjoy in the car. The hot dog was BIG and definitely loaded up with chili and cheese. Chili had really good flavor too. The side salad was a nice size and had fresh ingredients. This is a fun stop and I'd recommend it to others.

What a gem! We ended up at the Dixie by happenstance. Its a quick ride from Ft. Lee. We are only in the area for a short time. Warm hellos greeted us when we walked in. The building is filled with architectural details like high ceilings with tin tiles, & exposed ductwork. Seating is available on the patio and a chalkboard wall lists the daily specials. We found a seat at the counter. He had the sausage gravy and biscuits. I had the shrimp & grits and we shared a corncake- all were 5 stars. We both grew up in the south and this meal was like going home. The staff was full of charm and hospitality. They even offered a to go cup for the our sweet teas. Be aware, they are strict on not serving the lunch menus until noon. This gives us an excuse to head back for lunch another day. He's hoping to catch a day when the Oyster Po'boy is offered (it was on the specials board). read more

I ate at the Dixie for the first time in over 30 years. I had a really tasty shrimp and grits and the sides were good too. I love that they brought the place back. There are lots of Petersburg historical pictures to enjoy as well. read more
