My husband and I went there for dinner, the service was slow. Had to wait too long for beverage refills when there was only 3 other tables. They were out of the teriyaki sauce for the burger I wanted. I heard the waiter tell another table they were out of something else, and another table that they no longer serve an item, but haven't gotten around to taking it off the menu. On top of the slow service and over done food, my husband found a piece of parchment paper on his burger, the kind you use to separate raw meat patties. He almost ate it. Christine and Dave, I use to love coming to your Diner. I've been in the area since you opened and enjoyed your food. In the last few years you seem to be having issues with your Diner. Your food is great but the place needs a total facelift. Your place seems very dirty, the walls look greasy and brown. Clean it up! Bring in some warming colors and make it more inviting. Dave, you do have an attitude. Maybe it's time to retire and bring in new management. Remember customer service? If there is a complaint, deal with it in a positive manner. Your regular customers will stick with you if you treat us right. We usually don't complain if things are right. You don't make things right though Dave, you argue with your customers. Ordered 3 bacon burgers to go...got back to the jobsite to find none had bacon. Called in and was told they didn't charge me for it so it's ok, even though it's not what I ordered... Fried were tasteless and soggy. Burger was probably the most tasteless I have ever had, and the other two burgers my co-workers had were the same. Co-worker sitting next to me as I type this calls it the worst burger he has ever had. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

RUDE. Let me start there. Barely a greeting. Restaurant less than half full on a Sunday morning and everyone running around like it's the busiest day they've ever had. When it came time to order I was asked by the older heavy set woman waiting on us if I wanted hash browns or "dads fries". Having no idea the difference I asked for a recommendation. I do this all the time when I eat out as servers are suppose to be able to make suggestions to help you determine the items you might prefer. This woman told me she had no recommendation, that it depended on what I wanted. So I tried to clarify by explaining since she had tried both she would have some idea of which was more popular or went better with my breakfast entree. She said, "I have no idea what you want." Well ok, thanks for zero hospitality or helpfulness old lady. I get it. You're miserable and don't like working with the public. However since you ARE working with the public in the hospitality biz you should be cognizant of the fact that it IS your job to help your customers feel like a welcomed guest. Food was dropped off and we didn't see anyone until the bill arrived (which was fine by me). Food was bland. No flavor. Added salt and still, meh. And meh is generous. Orange juice was overly sweet and possibly Sunny D. The fact that every other breakfast joint in Sumner was packed with lines of people waiting and this one was barely half full should have been a red flag. Portions are grossly huge, food is bland bordering on gross and the service is just RUDE. Seriously go to Buttered Biscuit, Windmill Bistro or Berryland. Had breakfast here this morning. For all of you that had to wait in line, I have been there and came earlier. For the guy who says he didn't like bickering, the name says it all "Dixies HOME Cooking" so if you didn't like it why come back 3 times? The owner and his wife treat everyone like they are family and if you share your life, they will share theirs. The food is top notch and great portions. Wish I could review the food but the service was so terrible I didn't get the chance. Sat down and was greeted just fine with beverages and then the young waitress wandered behind the wall and started talking to her coworkers and never came back out for our order. We could clearly hear her but sat there unattended to for 15 minutes before we decided to get up and leave. Just stepped in to see how it was for a quick breakfast. The environment is obviously still under some work. But the service was terrible from the start. The host barely made an attempt at seating us and simply said "Over there" no direction, no guidance, not even a gesture. Then as we seated he threw our menus on the table. This review is long overdue, however I am just getting going on my reviews. Let me start by saying, I have eaten at Dixie's exactly three times, the first two were fine, decent food, and ok service....after all it is a diner.. However my last and final trip was the absolute worst!!! I met an old friend there for a late breakfast/early lunch...our waitress (an older lady) was very sweet and attentive, the wait times were very long, but we didn't mind because we had a lot of catching up to do. The food was fine, nothing super special, but won't complain...The Absolute worst part of the visit was when we received the bill....we split the check, and apparently in the confusion of splitting our bill, my friend misunderstood and didn't leave her full portion of the tip. I had tipped on my portion of the bill ( even tipped extra ) we were there for quite awhile. As we were exiting the diner and were getting into the car..The owner (Dave, I believe) ran out to my car and yelled at us throwing my $6 dollars at us saying apparently we needed that money more than the waitress!!! I was appalled and didn't understand what had just happened...My friend was so embarrassed she gave me $5 dollars and asked me to go in and give it to the waitress along with my $6 (the bill was 28 dollars total) Needless to say the waitress was mortified by the guys behavior and said how sorry she was....I have NEVER been back....and will never go back!! I've been in here about 8 times now so I feel I have enough info to make a fair review. The owners of this place seem have a weird relationship. A few times we have gone in and all the staff is very pleasant to one another other times we go in and it has a very hostile environment and you can hear the staff yelling at one another in the back. The food is usually very good, however the sausage gravy they use has a very unique flavor to it. Twice we have gone in and stood at the door for 5+ minutes before anyone even greeted us. The food usually come out pretty good. I do wish they would cook their dads potatoes just a few minutes longer. The food is reasonably priced for what you get. A ton of food comes on each plate. The best thing I've had there has probably been either the crispy chicken salad or the Monte cristo*the breakfast one.* If you show up to close to closing, it is as though they rush you out thd door. If the staff seemed to all be on the same page the place would have much better reviews I think. I know I don't like eating places with cranky staff members. read more

It is always interesting to read all the glowing remarks about a restaurant and then wonder what did they see, taste and experience that we missed? My wife ordered a salad, hard to mess that up, that's what she thought anyway. Her salad arrived after waiting 45 minutes. There were only two other tables occupied at the time. The warm salad arrived with a full scoop of some kind of pulled pork chili dripping all over the fresh cut greens and tomatoes. What a mess! Ruined the entire bowel. I had the meatloaf. We stopped in for lunch after reading the reviews and thought it sounded like a good middle of the road diner type joint....the overall set up of the restaurant is similar to what you might find at any small diner....I ordered the stadium burger which came with a huge serving of tater tots...When I opened up the bun, i saw what seemed to be albino velveta..I took several bites and set it aside as I could not eat any more of it...I turned my attention to the tots...Unfortunately...these tasted like they had been fried in the same oil that fish had been fried in. When we inquired, the waitress was snappy and rude, and then suddenly all service stopped to our table. No staff checked in or made eye contact from that point on. I've been here a few times. One time it took over an hour to get my order - eggs Benedict (to go). I went here again yesterday. I just wanted eggs Benedict with no sides. The lady who took my order just looked at me when I entered and went to the order counter. I explained I did not want the sides and she informed me they don't do a la carte. I said that was fine, charge me the normal price but no sides. She said that that didn't make sense. She said something along the lines of that was crazy. She went into the kitchen and she explained what I wanted. Twice I heard her say "I know, that's insane". Second time she said it I walked out and went to the Buttered biscuit for my eggs Benedict. The food is all full of fat, nothing healthy on the menu, The wait staff seems to change all the time and the owners do not appear to be happy. Rarely see them smile and when they do it is that fake smile that disappears quickly., On one visit the owner, I believe is Dave, was arguing with some customers and the one waitress who was there appeared to be afraid of him. My husband and I read the reviews online and were really excited about the simple home cooked food. We like to visit diners and your typical hole in the wall places because they usually have the best. However...we were really disappointed. We went in the middle of the day(which may have been the problem) and were the only ones in the restaurant for 90 percent of our meal. For being the only ones there, the service was really bad. I had the turkey burger, which didn't look all that good, but just tasted okay. The french fries were typical for a diner. My husband had the fish and chips. He said his fish was dripping in grease. Just a warning based on my own personal experience with the waitstaff and Mr. David Jacobs (owner)... While this place is supposedly family friendly, I do NOT recommend anyone with small children with special needs visit. I was in there this Sat. with my 18 month old special needs daughter. She started crying because she was hungry. A very bitter waitress kept shooting me dirty looks and told me to take my daughter "out for a walk". As I was sitting there trying to console my daughter, I observed Mr. Jacobs and the rest of the waitstaff standing near the kitchen giving me "the stare down" with looks of disgust on their faces. The "bitter waitress" then came directly to my table AND STARTED YELLING AT ME!!! So, we got up to leave. AT THIS TIME... Mr. Jacobs threatened to call the cops! Timing is everything - plan your visit around peak weekend times as the wait can be over 45 minutes for a basic egg, bacon and cake breakfast. The food was good diner fare, a solid American breakfast selection. The chicken fried steak looked amazing and the portion size would easily feed two people. We stopped in for breakfast after dropping our puppy off at the vet. The place is a quaint mom and pop diner that already had a few locals enjoying a meal. Out server Dave was friendly and attentive, he promptly informed us of the special and got us started with some coffee. Our food arrived very quickly. My wife had the special (pumpkin french toast with sausage and eggs) delicious! I had eggs over easy with bacon dads potatoes and toast, it was spot on! I have been coming to Dixie's since I was in high school. When I was younger, it felt like we were neglected as customers. It seemed as if the older staff didn't care about serving us. Maybe they thought we wouldn't tip well, but luckily for them, we were raised better than that and DO tip well. Not all teenagers are the same. Much hasn't changed though as an adult. The food is amazing, but it's the service that keeps me from coming in more often. read more

We've been here several times, even bringing my father-in-law for their Breaded Port Tenerloin Sandwich, and every time we leave, we are stuff and satisfied. The owners are very nice, and make a point of talking to the customers and making sure they are happy. The food is, well its awesome. The portions are huge.
