I went there for the first time in many months. Giving them another try after previous bad experience being milk tea not having very strong tea. I am again disappointed because after expressing that we cannot tolerate milk very well and ask for possible milk substitute (which they have none), I walked away with a drink that only contains MILK!!! No tea. How is that even possible? Milk and brown sugar. I went back inside immediately to see if she can help and she said no. I ordered wrong. There is no one else in store and I hope they will learn why changing a small drink to help customer can potentially go a long way in regaining their fans... ugh. Terrible terrible terrible service. Their computer was not working. The staff restarted their computer when i was trying to place an order. I got charged for $13.78, a receipt did not come out. 2nd visit at this boba place since it's close to work, great setting, boba selections are great, price is standard and staff service is fast and efficient. Having said that, after ordering Thai iced tea with boba the flavor was watered down and not as strong as I expected for a Thai ice tea. I mean if anyone has ever had Thai iced tea you'd expect that strong caffeine fix with a refreshing twist. But their version sadly was not. It was the first time I came in and the service is great. That is, until I gave them a tip. It was 10% tip which is not much. However, when paid with card, you have to tip before which I don't always agree with. I would rather try my drink first, before tipping. I would prefer to tip with cash as a reflection of the service and drink. Why tip for service just in case the drink is sub par, I believe both service and product should be tipped. Not one or the other. Anyway, because of the tip amount, the guy handed me the drink without much eye contact and was quite rude in his body language. It seems clear to me that the service is more based off of the tip you give them and not because they want to provide good service. Because of this experience, I won't be coming in again. Now for the drink. I ordered a very simple drink. Basically, a Thai tea with less sweet. I took a sip, and it was not worth the $6 I paid for. It was watered down, less sweet thai tea. I've had less sweet thai tea at other places and it's exactly what I got. A flavorful thai tea with less sweet. And one sip, I said yuck. My husband tried it and said, " Ugh, I can make better at home." In fact, we went home, and added some sweet and other fresh ingredients and NOW my drink tasted like a $6 drink. In my own opinion, if a thai tea from this place can fall flat, then how is the store going to garner my trust for their other drinks. Just a FYI, I used to run a boba store for a few years and I travel to boba stores and I teach employees customer service and how to run a boba business. However, their menu is intriguing and worth a visit. I cannot comment on their other drinks. As a fun experiment, I would not tip just for the mere experience of what kind of customer service you will get. However, if they had a tip jar and in case you had a really good drink and service, you should tip accordingly to your experience. It's not the best boba place ever, but if you are curious about this place, i think it's worth the visit and try a drink that strikes your fancy. read more

I ordered Life is Peachy with less sugar and the lady gave me a black liquid that nowhere looks as colorful as the picture. I asked the lady serving and she mentioned that because I ordered less sugar, she had to give less peach concentrate and hence the color is black. But then when I tasted, it had no tea flavor as well! Seemed like I was drinking flavored water with boba in it!! I have tasted boba drinks in many places and this was the worst. Out of all the DIY tea labs this one consistently provides poor service and product. Boba is always hard or old Tea is weak I have been there 5 different days and times And it's disappointing. We always wait at least 10 minutes for 1-2 drinks to be made (with no one ahead of us). They seem to never have enough supplies/ingredients available or prepped which results in longer wait times. We are also barely ever greeted or acknowledged. Even with a self order kiosk, at least say hello! On numerous occasions, the teen employees loudly gossip about their social lives while customers wait, yet they fail to communicate what is happening with our drinks. Drinks are inconsistent as well. We love the actual location as it's convenient but there is A LOT of room for improvement. read more

My sister, my high school friend her young daughter and I decided to try this boba place. The young lady didn't speak English, but there was a sign explaining that she didn't really speak English. If you want great boba, the DIY tea lab is not it! The customer service is below acceptable and the boba just tastes cheap. I will admit though, every time I go this is terrible Boba shop, I got the same person every time. And one particular time left a unforgettable taste in my mouth. They made me wait 15-30 minutes so they could cook the boba (which should be ready at all times), and when I did get the boba, the boba was hard and near to uncooked and in the end tasted and looked like bunny poop. There are a million of other boba shops that have much greater service and boba that you could go to instead of this college student run boba shop. And on the subject of customer service, the people who work in this place wear ear buds and have an iPad in the front to address to the customers who come. Which is some of the least inviting environment you could ask for. And when asking for recommendations, there is little to no response. In the end, there is no decent part of this place, and is just a waste of space in Houghton. There is too much to criticize about this place, and in the end the only good option is not this option! So go to this terrible boba shop if you're willing to eat bunny turd boba special! read more
