Awesome place for banh canh with friendly service! There is one option of banh canh at this place which comes with crab, shrimp, pork, quail eggs, fish cake and thick noodles. Since I didn't eat pork, they were so kind to substitute it with more quail eggs. The noodles are soft, chewy and fresh while the broth was hearty and flavorful. I also ordered a side of Chinese donuts which were very crispy and paired very well with the broth which softens it while maintaining a nice crisp. Came here with my sister for lunch last month after seeing a tik tok on this spot and usually when i get Vietnamese food it's mostly pho or spring rolls so getting to try this udon noodle soup dish was a pretty nice change. A low key restaurant kind of tucked away. The service was friendly although slow, given the restaurant was not that full. The bun rieu is not the style I grew up eating - I'm used to a lot of ground pork/crab chunks whereas this was a pretty clear broth with well formed meatballs. The format didn't bother me much but unfortunately I felt pretty skimped on the protein compared to how loaded bun rieu usually is. I also found the broth not as rich in flavor as I'm used to and how I prefer. I chose to order it with the snail add on, but they literally handed me a small platter of snail. The seasoning was strong and salty and didn't match the flavor of bun rieu at all. It was such a random and unmatching addition that I'm not sure why it was there as an add-on option for my soup. Went here based on Yelp reviews I read and it did not disappoint. It is conveniently located on Bolsa in a shopping plaza w plenty of well lighted parking. The restaurant is not that big nor too small but it is clean and well decorated. I ordered the bamboo and duck noodle soup which came with a shredded cabbage salad and plenty of ginger fish sauce concoction to dip the tender and fatty duck in. I asked for extra bamboo which was a good move. I also had their butterfly lemonade drink with boba. The soup broth was fragrant and not sugary sweet like other restaurants which I prefer. Service was good and swift. I got my to gos too. A bún chả Hà Nội, à bún canh riêu đồng and à bánh canh tôm thịt. Just enjoyed the bún chả Hà Nội ấy home for lunch the next day which is CNY day! I've been eating bun mang vit many times in OC and for the first time, I had only ONE bamboo piece. The server said they were out of the bamboo. The bánh canh broth was thick and flavor, and filled with lots of proteins unlike other places that skimp out. It also has an option to come with their Chinese donut bread. Even if you don't order the bánh canh, make sure you order the Chinese donut bread! It's crispy and hot, and so delicious. The other two dishes were noteworthy too.
