Great pub! Grouper was cooked fantastically. I got lemon pepper and the GF got blackened... both were flaky, tender, melt in your mouth. And the calamari was lightly battered and cooked well, very tender and the perfect "crisp" in the batter. The marinara wasn't my favorite but that's just personal preference... besides, I came for the grouper and it was more than worth it. Nice job Dave's! read more

Whenever we travel to this area of Florida the first restaurant we visit is Dockside Dave's. This time we had friends visiting from NJ. We each had something different. Each meal was excellent. We went back for a second visit. We would have gone back for a third time, but we had made a day trip and decided to try something different. Not only was the food fresh and great tasting, but the server, Melissa was just about one of the best we ever had. Going back to Treasure Island and Maderia Beach in June and I know where we will be dining. Highly recommended. read more

Dockside Dave's is a nice cozy place at Madeira Beach. It has been around for a good while and is an institution in the area. I have eaten here many times and am unsure why it has taken me so long to review it. The most lauded menu item is the grouper sandwich, which is what I always get. It is a sizable piece of fish on a round bun with lettuce and tomato. This is one of the best grouper sandwiches on the beach for sure. They have lots of other seafood items on the menu, when I have less of an appetite I like the grouper bites appetizer. read more

3 people went for lunch. 2 ordered "famous" grouper sandwich. 1 person sent it back for weird consistency. 2nd person picked out the majority of the grouper but decided not to send it back. Both agreed the slice of tomato was the best part. 3rd person ordered blackened chicken sandwich. Plentiful portion but it was dry without much flavor. This is one of the easiest reviews I've had to write in a long time. Within walking distance from several of the Madeira condos is Dockside Dave's. While it may lack 20 82 inch inch screens to watch, it more than makes up for in fair prices and great food. The kids meals are ridiculously affordable and adults won't go wrong with the Captain's platter that is served with big scallops, jumbo shrimp and grouper that can be prepared six different ways. I opted for blackened because it sounded safe but would go back to try country fried and every other kind of way. Waffle fries and coleslaw as a side weren't merely there for the ride and were pretty damned good on their own. They have four or so draft beers to pick from along with a few other cocktails or a sangria. Sauces (ketchup, tartar and cocktail) come in their own bottles which is a plus because I always seem to get too much or not enough. I should have known this place would be worth stopping at because an older dude just floating by in the gulf recommended it to me. He just floated away after that. I hope he is okay. read more

On a weekend trip to hang out at the beach. A friend said it was the best grouper sandwich he'd ever had...it was pretty darn good. The portions are very generous. Our group tried the onion rings, so crispy and server hot. I had the clam chowder...so tasty. Another person in our group had the chicken sandwich...she said it was super crispy and it was a very portion as well. The sweet tea was perfectly sweet. And had the munchies real, real bad. It's a dive, but thats a star in itself for beach dive bar ambiance. The service was just north of average for a 2 p.m. lunch, so I'll give another star. That's where it ends. The problem with Dave's was food quality. We ordered 2 scallop dinners and the grouper dinner, along with what the menu said was a seafood bisque. The bisque tasted okay, but it was raspberry red. Like Gogurt red. Are there red fish? Red dye? Squid ink? Even SpongeBob would have been confused, and he lives in the sea. The scallops were plentiful (8) but had a funky ammonia taste, so we were a little concerned about food poisoning (which didn't happen). The asparagus had the same weird taste. I love asparagus. I've finished every serving--undercooked, overcooked, or cooked with stuff it shouldn't have been. This is the first time I left nearly all on the plate. The grouper, blackened, was very good, so shout out to the half star for that. With no al ohol, the bill was over $100 for 3 meals and no dessert. Seemed a little rich. If you do go to Dave's, stick with the grouper--no sides. Nice people, but not a great value. read more

First thing I'll say is, if you like tomatoes, order it as a side of them with you meal. This place is a gem, our group had to wait about 20 min for an outdoor table, but not to worry, the bar was a great place to sit and have a cold one while we waited. Now to the appetizers. The onion rings. We ordered the large. Enough for 5 to share. They were colossal. Battered just perfectly. A must if you go. We also got the Grouper bites. Again, nailed it. We had a fantastic waitress and the entire staff were working their tails off. The bisque was ok. The color of pink Pepto bismol threw off the flavor for us. Would not order again. The grouper was just "ok" each way we had it (chargrilled, fried, country fried, and philly). For a "must have" fish, I would expect it prepared better. On the plus side was the lemon pepper shrimp, mix veggies, salad, and key lime pie. All of them exceeded our expectations. For a quick meal, this is a good idea.
