On Tuesday April 22, 2025, I called Doctor Detail on the recommendation by John Garcia from Strom German to get a quote on a steam cleaning to retard possible Road Salt Corrosion on an Audi I was thinking about buying in Costa Mesa, CA. I talked to the owner Darren McKendry and had a long conversation with him about the possible undercarriage cleaning as well as quotes for possible PPF film application to the car for paint protection for which he gave me quotes. I sent Darren a very thorough PPI that was done by Strom German Auto Repair, Costa Mesa, CA, for his evaluation and he told me he thought a steam cleaning could solve the problem. I made an appointment for the cleaning for the afternoon on Friday April 25, 2025, which would be after I flew in to buy the car and then drive it over for the cleaning. Darren volunteer to go check out the car on his own time to make sure it was worth buying, stating sometimes cars were horribly custom painted or had other problem not visible from photos. On Thursday he told me he had checked out the car and he noticed it already had PPF film on the front bumpers, spliters, headlights and mirrors, and that he only recommended replacing the film on the spliters, since they had road rash on them, and perhaps the hood if I wanted. He gave me the thumbs up to purchase the car and made suggestions on what I might want to consider doing to the car to enhance the beauty and protection of it. On Friday after purchasing the car I brought it to Doctor Detail for the steam cleaning. I was disappointed to find out that Darren was out for an emergency, because I enjoyed talking to him on the phone; but Christina and Rhett were on hand to assist with the car. Christina checked out the car in great detail and she said the hood and the front wheel wells already had PPF film on them. I told her that I saw some Porsches that had film on the rear wheel wells, so she got a quote for these for my Audi, which was $100.00 per side. Rhett then had their steam cleaning tech put my car on a rack and the three of us inspected the undercarriage of the car looking for the leaked fluids to clean and removal or any rust or corrosion. After the cleaning Rhett and I went back under the car to inspect the steam cleaning to see if I was satisfied with the work. I saw a few areas that I thought could be cleaner, so their tech cleaned those to my satisfaction. I went out for dinner and when I came back their film tech, Manuel, had completed both rear wheel wells. I had been given a $120.00 quote for each spliter, so I left my car over night to have the work completed on Saturday morning and pickup after 10:00 am. When I arrived the work was done, and Rhett told me he had done some paint correction to cover the road rash that was already on the car prior to one of the previous owners putting the PPF film on the spliters. There were some issues I was having with programming of the car functions and Rhett kindly helped me with those during his lunch break. Darren came in on Saturday and I had a nice chat with him as well. I was offered to purchase a total car detailing, but seeing as it was raining and I had a very loooong drive back home in the rain I opted out of this service, because it would have delayed my departure back home and I didn't want to arrive late at night. Their location is on 2011 Placentia Ave., and it has a great greeting area and showroom! It is very modern, clean and welcoming with a garden outside, nice wood paneling and firepit for those cold nights. I was told it is even rented for events like weddings. They have several nice cars they restored on hand to view to show off the type and quality of work they do. I'm very pleased with the customer service from the staff at Doctor Detail, their location, their honesty and the fact that they were willing to go above and beyond to assist me with my car purchase evaluation and detailing and protection of my car. I would definitely and highly recommend them for anyone wanting PPF film, steam cleaning and detailing of their car!!! PS. Please see attached photos of the after of the steam clean. Tonight I went to the gas station and under those bright gas station lights, I got a better look at my car than I did even at the Doctor Detail store. HOLY CRAP! My 16 year old Lexus literally looks like a new car. It is exactly what Darren and I first talked about. Yes, the car looked fine before we did this. I cannot recommend this place enough for a GREAT detail and even for ding removals. My family has brought their cars here before but I had yet to take the plunge myself. My Macan was COVERED in swirls, scratches, and marring from years of daily use. I came in hoping for my car to have a 50% improvement and it honestly now looks better than the day I bought it! Seriously my paint is flawless, at least 95% of my scratches are gone (the deep ones are the only ones left) and you would never know where the dent used to be on my car! I purchased a new to me 2019 vehicle that only had 8500 miles on it. After 4 washings I discovered it had terrible swirls and had very dirty wheels and moldings. The Good: Wow, I've been looking for a good detail place forever. I think that I've found one that I am proud to refer and use as long as I'm in the OC. My car has not been kept up as much as I would like to, so it was time to take car of her. The exterior is spot on clean, they fixed some minor scratches and even cleaned the engine. It is showroom ready. Props to Jerry the manager who recommend what to get done and even drove me to and from my place. It took over 6 hours so I'm glad I didn't have to wait there the whole time. Excellent customer service and we even talked about what I can get done next time. The Bad: It's a bit on the pricey side, but do get what you pay for. I haven't gone back to a detailer twice because of shotty workmanship. There is no list of services. I would like a menu of shorts to see what services are available to me. Call me crazy. I am so happy I found Dr. Detail! have a black BMW that had swirl marks from the previous owner. They always drove me crazy, but I just dealt with it. Then, to make matters worse, I made a foolish mistake of going to a do it yourself car wash and the bristles from a brush put fine scratches all over my car. I took it in to Darren at Dr. Detail for a paint correction. They ended up doing the paint correction on the whole car, including RestorFX, detailed the inside, and cleaned my engine. My car looks brand new! You would never be able to tell that there were ever any imperfections. I could not be happier with the work they did. They were quick, efficient, and their work is amazing. These guys know their stuff. My car was sprayed with pool plaster by the pool contractor that was working on my neighbor's pool. After having several detailers check out the car (all refused to work on it for fear of damaging the paint) and having a local detail shop tell me they would have to repaint the car, I was referred to Doctor Detail. Update: As outlined in my previous review in 2013, the detailing experts at Doctor Detail are some of the best in the business with respect to preserving the attractiveness of your vehicle for the long term. So, I decided to bring in my newly purchased 2014 Honda Accord to Doctor Detail to receive another extraordinary exterior detail job like the one they did with my Acura RDX. I made a smart decision on my part to bring the vehicle in for a detail the day after I purchased the vehicle. It was decision that paid dividends. Wow. Here is how: The Doctor Detail staff indicated to me after a thorough inspection of my newly purchased Honda Accord that it suffered from some unusual factory paint imperfections that were subtle, but noticeable under the correct lighting conditions. Of course, an untrained eye like me was unable to see them when the vehicle was purchased the night before, but suffice it to say, the experts at Doctor Detail were able to spot them accordingly and provided some valuable input. Ultimately, I made the decision to take the vehicle back to the dealer. So, to make a long story short, it was handled accordingly by the dealer fairly and efficiently. In short, I made the decision to purchase the same model and trim from a different Honda dealer the next day. If there is a lesson to be learned, it is that when a new vehicle is purchased right off the dealer lot, it does not automatically mean that the exterior paint is in top notch condition. Usually, it is not. It goes without saying, then, that one of the best decisions you can make after purchasing your vehicle is to take it to an establishment like Doctor Detail for a vehicle prep./exterior detail job where they can thoroughly examine your new vehicle before and after. In short, in this follow-up review, Doctor Detail has earned my business for the long term. This car doesn't live outside, it is garaged nightly and the only reason it's ever dusty is because it's parked in an underground garage at work. There were three eraser head sized sap marks less than 24 hours old on it and had I realized that it was beyond your skill set to rinse those off, I would've done it myself before bringing it back in again. Perhaps screaming at and speaking down to women that don't drive Bentleys works on most of your female customers, but not this one. Darren the owner just called me to follow up with the detail service he provided. Instead of calling him back I wanted to leave him a review. Just purchased a gently used car online from an dealer. We get the car and find out that it had been owned by a heavy smoker. No bueno! With 3 year old kiddo and a pregnant wife, I either had to return the car or get an extreme cleaning to rid the stench. I called Doctor Detail, and from the very beginning Darren took control of the situation.
