We came to this restaurant based upon the yelp! ratings. When we arrived, the place was packed. The hostess and server were very cordial and made us feel at home. We knew we were not going to the Ritz Carlton for dinner and we weren't disappointed - the establishment was exactly as we thought. It was a cafe with red checkered plastic table cloths. We could get past that because the food was supposed to be great. We ordered the broiled and sautéed shrimp dishes for the main course along with the tomales and chile as appetizers. The food was good, not great. I would have rated it a 3 star at best. But that wasn't the best part........ As I took my last bite, I looked up to say something to my dinner guest, when I spotted something crawling on the wall behind him - you guessed it. A HUGE cockroach was making its way up to the ceiling. At that point I almost lost my dinner. The table next to me also saw the beast and when it crawled back down the wall to the floor, the gentleman next to me got up and stepped on the critter which resulted in a loud crunch. This place is a Little Rock treasure! I've never been to a place that has quite the atmosphere as Doe's. It's kind of small and junky, but as soon as you walk through the doors you're hit with the most wonderful smells in the world. The steak is beautifully cooked here, and served family style, which I love. The sides and apps are also fantastic. The tamales might not be what you'd expect if you're not used to Delta style, but I recommend them for sure. The shrimp is fantastic, the drinks are good, and I just really love this place. Huge steaks in a shady part of down. We heard sirens going off a couple times during our meal. Great place for family casual dining. Nothing fancy. The steaks are what you go for. And is worth the drive for the experience. The steaks are large and partially cut for sharing. Pretty good quality cuts but quantity is what this place is about. The tamale appetizer is decent. Hole in the wall for sure. Steaks were nice. Wifey had a filet mignon, non shareable item and it was very tender and flavorful. She really enjoyed it. Jerry and I split a T bone. Doe's Eat Place in Little Rock, Arkansas is great for steaks, burgers, tamales and salad, but they have never claimed to have exceptional food otherwise. For several years "boiled chicken" was on the back of the menu by itself as a joke for those that just had to have something diet like. Their burgers are fabulous at lunch and come with some great natural type fries. They switched fries at one point and have come back around to the original version, which were always good (if you like that type). The best menu items at Doe's are the steaks. They can cook a variety of cuts any way you like. Usually 2-3 people will share one steak. Tamales with crackers or a soaked salad compliment the burger lunch or the steak dinner perfectly. Admittedly, I must have a weak spot for restaurants with red and white checkered table cloths and dirty floors. In Doe's case I avoid the floor all together and prefer to eat outside on the patio in the back (you have to side step past the register and through the kitchen to get there as well as to the "dog house" dining room and the rest rooms). Doe's originated in Greenville, Miss. and was copied to Little Rock by a local resturanteur keeping a similar theme and style. Memorabilia on the walls is worth taking the time to look. I had high hopes for this place based on years of recommendations and reviews. Where do I start? We order the porterhouse and they are out. We settle for the t bone on the waiter's recommendation. The "marinated" salad arrived which tasted of garlic only and was so soggy it had the consistency of cooked spinach. The new potatoes tasted like they were boiled without any seasoning at all and then put in a bowl of melted butter. The fries had no potato left in them and looked refried. Now for the t bone. Wait I'm insulting t bones by calling what we got a t bone. It was over cooked and yet had no color on side. We couldn't cut any part of it that was tender enough to eat. I've never had a steak anywhere at any price point that I considered completely inedible.... until tonight. This place felt like it was operating on reputation alone. Instead of eating steak here, set a hundred dollars on fire and eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at home. At least then you won't waste your money and have to eat their food too read more

There's not a better casual steakhouse in the state than Doe's. It's all about the food here-- the steaks are served by the pound, so you'll be sharing. The T-Bone is one of the best cuts, in my opinion, served medium rare it is delicious. The tamales and fried shrimp are also hits-- but the again it can take away from your space to be able to eat as much of the steak as you can. They serve toast, new potatoes, and fries as sides-- all of which serve as great conduits for the remainder of the steak fat/juice on the plate. Don't expect fancy, cheap, or vegetarian, but if you want a great steakhouse: Doe's is the spot. read more

"Family style" steakhouse. Steaks are ordered by the pound and are meant for sharing. Very helpful waitress and a few local craft beers. I chose Lost Forty Brewing- Love Honey Bach. Also had a beer from Diamond Bear. Good stuff. My date and I shared a 2.5# porterhouse. If a customer cannot make a decision on how they want it cooked they boast they can cook it two ways. We agreed on "medium" so it wasn't a problem. Good starter salad already talked about in reviews. Fries AND potatoes come as sides. Excellent chocolate cake. Located next to a food pantry. Isn't it ironic? Don't you think? Price for two with dessert was around $100. One of the best steaks I have EVER had. Equivalent prices to the fancy places in Dallas. Lock your doors and hide your valuables, no valet parking here. I could not stop thinking if this was a good place to take a first date. Will dinner here get you laid or slapped? This is one of my favorite restaurants in the North Little Rock area; I make it a point to eat here every time I'm in North Little Rock. The steaks are cooked perfectly; definitely go for rare or medium rare at the most though. The T-bones and sirloins are top-notch, and you'll savor the taste. If you're with a group, start out with the tamales! The bar is full-service, and they have a decently robust beer selection for a smaller restaurant. There are a lot of misguidedly positive reviews for Doe's Eat Place. I would hate for someone to be misled by tales of nostalgia or unrealistic expectations, so I'll give you my brutally honest and un-biased opinion. Most of the "great" things you'll hear about Doe's are simply stories. I'm told it's got great history. I'm told this is where business people used to make big decisions. I'm told this is an "old school" steakhouse. But if you've never heard any of those stories, Doe's is just a sub-par steakhouse with dirty bathrooms, cramped eating spaces and one gimmick: steak by the pound. I hate to be the hater (Check my reviews, I love to sing praises and I'm no stranger to steak!), but Doe's doesn't deliver. The steak ended up being quite tasty, but absolutely nothing compared to any $30+ steak you'd get at a prime steakhouse. Some call the vinyl tablecloths and cheap chairs nostalgia. I call it a cheap restaurant. The bathrooms were filthy which concerns me. An owner who can't even take pride in a clean bathroom probably doesn't take good care of his kitchen. I had several juicy and tasty bites of steak, but I also had plenty of gristle. And it was impossible to comfortably enjoy my food because of the "nostalgia" (cramped tables, greasy ketchup bottles, and long waits). You have two options for Doe's: Buy into the hype and have a good time, or judge this place on its actual merits and be sorely disappointed. read more

A dingy place in a poor, run-down place of town, a minuscule menu, not inexpensive, and a name that seems a spelling mistake ... and 5 stars in Yelp. No, I am not sabotaging Yelp, they deserve those stars. I have never experienced anything quite like Does. We heard about it from several friends and were so happy to finally be trying it. We were told above all else, try the tameles, the salad and of course, the steak. This is a made to order steak place where the cuts of steak left, as indicated on the board, are the only ones you have to choose from. We chose the last largest, well over 20oz filet, with all the trimmings. First of all, the salad was AMAH-ZING!! Not just any salad but chopped thick pieces of crisp lettuce, tomatoes and onions swimming in a sweet and tangy dressing. I begged the waitress for the recipe and she told me it was their secret. We got their home made tameles and were blown away by the soft corn tortilla it was wrapped in. The chili on the side is home made and absolute perfection! The tortilla's were not too spicy and was a perfect blend of spice and texture and I admit, I put one in the salad only after my third glass of wine... The steak arrived and it was almost as if the entire restaraunt stopped talking and turned their heads to look at this massive beast! The steak melted in my mouth. Somewhere between my second and third piece I swear I heard a harp playing and angels singing! PETA has nothing on me! I love red meat! We didn't finish all of it but the steak made for good leftovers with some eggs the next morning. It was a busy Saturday night and although tables were hard to get, we were not rushed at all. The waitress was very friendly, joked about the massive feast we had and kept our glasses full. We tried 2 desserts, finished a bottle of wine and we were finally done. Wow. My father found this place on Yelp. It apparently jumped out at him for the high star rating and the grammatical error in the name. That's my dad for you... This place is in a building that is falling apart in a part of town that is collapsing onto itself. We arrived at Doe's at 5pm to find that it only opens at 5:30. One of the staff members saw us at the door and opened it to us. She told us that they weren't open but that we were welcome to come in out of the cold and have a drink. We happily accepted and sat down with a couple of Fat Tires. We went for dinner and were a bit disappointed at first to find out that they do not to burgers for dinner. They only do steaks and salmon. That turned out to not be that horrible of a thing after all. All the steaks are family style and come in poundage. That's right. You order pounds of steak. We were a little terrified at this and were even more shocked to learn that some people actually order 2 pound steaks for themselves. We had a 2 pound Porterhouse and couldn't finish it. It was fantastic. My knife literally melted through the steak. Usually you have to saw at meat but this one just gave way under your knife. The same thing happened in your mouth. You didn't have to chew for hours, it just dissolved into a juicy pulp. The steaks come with fries, a salad that has garlic in it (yum) potatoes drenched in butter and toast. I don't' understand how someone would finish that on their own. Nevertheless, the quality of the meat and the other ingredients were superb. The steak was not good, way over cooked, and although they portions sound huge, we got the 2 pound T-bone and it barely fed four of us (about 2-3 small pieces of meat was all each of us got). Got there around 6:30 on a Thursday and they were already sold out of the porterhouse and 3 pound T-bone. The fries were cold and ultimately not very good, potatoes served in a bowl of butter and not seasoned well at all. I have had a lot of steaks - I am a steak person. It's my favorite food. And this is the best steak I have ever had. I, like a lot of people, came here originally just because it was Clinton's place, and I was passing through Little Rock at the time. Ever since, I have been contemplating a road trip back (I think it's about 8 hours) just to eat here. I got a medium-rare porterhouse to share with my girlfriend, and it came out cooked perfectly, with the bone still on, and the most fantastic crust. The char somehow just melted in my mouth, and added a great salty-sweet combination to the meet. What should not be neglected is the fries. While you're eating your steak, they're almost an afterthought. Then you get to them, and you realize they've been soaking in the juice the whole time. While I was with a buddy of mine and new to this grand area that is Little Rock. I began searching ye olde Yelp App, and by chance I just happened to stumble upon this glorious local eatery. I'm glad I sifted through the nonsense and found it. Yelp, you hooked it up, and to show my gratitude I've made it a point to spread the word that is Doe's Eat Place. Yelp'ing it over the many chain oriented steak houses that are riddled through Little Rock. Doe's Eat Place is awesome. There's no other word for it. The menu, though simple, is perfection. You pick your cut, weight, and how you'd like it. They have the ability to cook one steak medium rare and well done. Ask another place to do that... I bet they can't, haha! It's all just very good. From the staff, to the food, and the location Doe's is where it's at, and where it will be for great tamales... I mean steak! (But they do have tamales, and though I've not indulged, I've heard great tales of their deliciousness.) Anywho, make the trip, and you won't be sorry. Corner place in what looks to be a slightly bad part of town. Then again, I've never seen any other parts of the town so, I may be way off. But, if I were to guess, its at the very least, a slightly bad part of town. Walked in and there was plenty of seating. Plastic tablecloths and a paper towel roll on the table. I'm feeling pretty good about the place already. The waitress comes up and was probably one of the nicest people I've eve been waited on. Listened to every bullshit story the dude I was with (hes a talker) wanted to tell her about anything, and didnt bat an eye. We ordered the 3.5lb porterhouse (which wasnt on the menu since it only goes up to 3lbs for that cut, but the waitress let us know it was back there) and a couple of Diamond Bear IPA's. The waitress explained to us that in addition to the big ass steak we just ordered, we were going to get a bunch of other stuff with the meal whether we liked it or not. Well, we liked it. :-) I asked about t 6 lb sirloin on the menu and if she's ever seen anyone #1 order it and #2 finish it. She promptly replied 'oh hell no'. haha I let her know that during my next trip here I was going to give it a shot. The salad is simple and its really good. The steak was huge and delicious. We were stuffed at the end of the meal but, not too stuffed, since the other dude got a slice of cheesecake (which disappointingly you cannot order by the pound) and happily ready to pay the bill. Until the waitress asked me if I'd like to SEE the 6lb sirloin. She took both me and my buddy to the kitchen, introduced us to the cooks and then one of the guys reached into the fridge and pulled out the two biggest slices of meat I have ever seen!! Two 3lb sirloins!! I had to take pictures! If you want a really chill place to eat really good steak, this is it. Do yourself a favor. and try this place out. So many people have told me about this place that my expectations were sky high. I hate to say it but I was let down. The steak was good but not outstanding. I've gotten the same quality at Western Sizzler. The biggest difference was the price. I feel like Western Sizzler is priced a little high so this place was really a hit to the wallet. read more

So far we are not impressed. We ordered right away and have waited 25-30 minutes and still haven't received our entree. 3 or 4 other tables are all we see but 2 of them already have food. The others got theirs before us and arrived after us. I loved the smell of the marinated salad, but the limp iceberg texture was not appealing. I went and asked where the food was and the guys asked what we ordered; I replied steak. He said steak takes a long time to cook, or take longer to cook; I can't remember which. I wanted to say no they don't because I cook them every week on the grill, but I didn't because I saw the waitress bringing them out. One was cooked correctly but the other was overlooked and dry; my sister actually dipped it in ketchup for the first time in her life. I guess we are good snobs and won't be coming back.
