We purchased shiplap from Dolan's. I didn't even realize there was a lumberyard on Monument. It's kind of hidden and the warehouse is just on the other side of the gas station. We first had the shiplap delivered. We ordered Friday afternoon and they were able to deliver Saturday mid morning. They are super helpful, but my husband did run into a hiccup when he had to get some more lumber a few days later. The young man cutting the pieces seemed to get confused easily. We got home and the pieces were cut wrong. So just make sure you check their work before you go all the way home. read more

I gave a rating of 3 stars due to the amount of time it took for us to actually receive our doors, however I would like to give 5 stars to Kelley Kenny at the Concord location. She was in constant communication with me (during the 6 month period) updating me along the way. She made me feel understood and tried her best to make me happy with what was out of her control. Talked to Jennifer in service who was able to identify issue and then found the part (this was a major repair) and arranged for a service call. Dolan's sent out Sebastian and Johnny who arrived with proper parts and the expertise to fix door in about half an hour. Polite and competent. When I bought my house in Antioch in 2013 I needed to replace my fence. I choose Dolan's Lumber because of the Quality of lumber and customer. Please do business with Dolan's! We bought a new front door from them over 1.5 years ago. They suggested a third party to paint and install it as they were not doing those services yet. Took awhile but it got done and we were very happy with the results. However, due to shifting of our house (we live in Lafayette, home of the worst soil in the world) and our door no longer lined up correctly. Our original installer, after much prodding, came out, made a few adjustments and basically said it was as good as he could do. Needless to say, as the season changed and the rains came, the door moved again. This time, our installer wouldn't even return emails or calls. Terrible. I called Dolan's out of desperation and the service department offered to come take a look. It took awhile to get an appointment but it was worth the wait. Jon and his colleague came out and spent over an hour making adjustments. They even added a piece to the bottom of the door to block incoming air. Jon offered to come back if the fixes weren't right or if we needed anything else. He said "we stand behind our products" and he clearly meant it. I wouldn't use the installer again but I can wholeheartedly recommend Dolan's and especially their service department. Wonderful experience in a world dominated by big box places that just don't care like Jon and the team do. read more

Have purchased about 20 units of windows/doors going back to 2008, including 3 pre-hung fiberglass entry doors. Have copies of about half the signed work orders; 2008 (3 windows, 1 seven ft french door), 2010 (4 doors) and 2014 (4'x6' slider plus pre-hung exterior fiberglass) but not all. Dolan's cannot find any records. My order of two pre-hung exterior fiberglass doors was just delivered and is quite different from 2014. The 2014 door weighed about 30 pounds with foam core, 2018 doors weigh more like 100 pounds with press-board core. As a senior citizen, that is an unexpected and unwelcome load. The standard hinges with #6 screws are too light to last. The Dolan's rep stated he had never sold this unit before (so my problem). To work around, I today bought heavy commercial hinges with #12 screws for $78 and will router out the frame and door to suit. The jamb seems too flimsy, so I will push the unit inward 1/2 inch and use #12 x 2 inch screws to reach the framing with edge distance for the screws. Plus re-work the trim inside and out. Dolan's used to care, that's why I kept going back. Now, there is so much business that one customer more or less makes no difference, there is still plenty money to be made. Time to re-think. read more

Went to Dolan's in Concord on 9/9/17 with my whole family. We were looking to replace our front door. Walked in and for 15 minutes no one asked if we needed help. We looked at their door samples. Two guys sitting in the back at their desk. Guy closest to the door samples was on the internet and eatting food. My wife and I went to go get some door brochures and the gal asked if we needed help then answers a phone call. Never got any help. read more

I bought a half sheet of plywood from Dolan's lumber in Concord on February 5, 2018. The minimum piece they could sell me was a half sheet for $25.00 I needed only one small piece of the half sheet measuring 14" x 19" for a cutting board. The kind cashier was sympathetic to the fact that I had to pay for an entire half sheet in order to get one small piece, so he charged me for only one cut (@$5.00 each) and threw in extra cuts at no charge to cut a few more useful pieces. I took my order to the lumber yard in a different location from the office and cashier. When I arrived I couldn't tell where to go, and no one came up to help me. Finally, a man came out to get my order. He gave me a hard time when he saw that I was charged for only one cut. Finally he cut the wood and brought out only the pieces I paid for leaving a very large extra piece back inside. I asked where the rest of my wood was, so he went inside and got the rest of it. When I got home, I noticed that the 14 x 19 piece of wood that I ordered had patches and imperfections all over both sides. The very large piece of wood that HE TRIED TO KEEP WAS FLAWLESS AND BEAUTIFUL. I was so outraged I brought all the wood back to Dolan's and reported it to another very kind cashier, Jesus. Jesus was very sympathetic to my concerns and agreed that the cutting board should have been cut from the better portion of the plywood. When he saw the piece that was cut for me he was shocked. He brought me over to the lumber yard himself to make sure my cutting board was cut out of the nicer piece of plywood. Jesus helped me identify the man who cut the wood as Javier. Jesus gave the nice piece of wood to another lumber yard worker and reassured me that he would give me excellent service. Shame on you Javier. Thanks to Jesus and the second lumber yard worker who cut the wood. I am rating this lumber yard a three star only because of the way Jesus handled my complaint. If it weren't for him, I would have given Dolan's a one star. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service with this establishment and I will give you a list of things went wrong. - Most employees who worked here are not interested in helping you or getting your business. Guys at the counter are more interested in watching football game on TV than helping you. -I asked a lady to give me a few estimates on some of the products I am interested in and she kept sighing impatiently as I am a burden to her. I have so much more appreciation and respect for the employees of Home Depot after I dealt with them. - They told me I will receive my shipments within a few days since they have it in stock. I waited for more than a week without any notice. And they gave me an elaborate lie about why it took so long. - I paid everything in advance at the store. They later asked for more money but can't tell me the reason. All I got was they underestimate the cost. They pretty much hold my material hostage until I agreed to pay the difference. read more

Was on my way to Home Depot with my $20,000.00. Saw this place decided to check it out. I waited in line behind some contractor that was having a morning conversation with the counter guy. Was talking about the lousy job he was doing on a house that was being foreclosed on. He said why should I care about the quality of work I do. When no one will be there. The guy at the counter glanced over at me twice, as I was waiting. He didn't bother to end the conversation. So I took my $20,000.00 dollars to Home depot. That counter guy just cost Dolan's Lumber a $20,000.00 sale$. True story 5/6/14 around 8:15am . If they look at the security tape they will see a guy with blue khakis and a maroon shirt. I envy those who received the 5 star experience at Dolan's. That has not been the case for me. We special ordered a front door in April. The wrong door was ordered, stained and installed In May, with the promise it would be replaced with the correct door. Here it is September, countless phone calls and excuses later, we still do not have the correct door installed. I feel my only recourse is YELP and the BBB! We paid over 3k for the door and installation, which is a lot of money to us. I have been told many times, "DON'T PAY UNTIL THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED". Maybe this time I have learned my lesson. I feel that our job has no importance, because we have paid in full. We have been overly patient, and I am just disgusted! read more

I've used Dolan's several times for various issues in the last three years and have been impressed time and time again. This week, Sebastian and Jon Paul replaced a big window that had been accumulating beads of moisture between the panes. They worked cheerfully and efficiently, measuring carefully to ensure a perfect installation, even taking time to show my curious 4-yo how some of their tools worked and to listen patiently to his riddles and knock-knock jokes. A couple years ago, another guy from Dolan's came out to adjust the hinge on a heavy French door that was starting to catch whenever you tried to open it. Several handymen had attempted the adjustment and failed, but the Dolan's guy fixed it in one shot and showed my husband how we could do it ourselves next time. Around the same time, the hollow wooden door to my daughter's closet had cracked along the top. I was expecting to have to replace it altogether, but the guy at Dolan's managed a tricky repair instead. And once, when my toddler removed the pin for the locking mechanism in our bathroom door knob, I called Dolan's to order a replacement, and the guy I spoke with just mailed me the part for free -- a kind and memorable gesture. Great service, great value, good people = happy customer. read more

We have been working with Tami to order several interior doors (hinged and pocket). So far we are extremely pleased with the customer service. Tami emailed me a quote in a very timely manner. When we went to the store to place our order, she was very knowledgeable about all of the products. She even suggested an alternative brand to Simpson that saved us a few hundred dollars per door and a few weeks of waiting time. We will need to order more products from them over the next few years, so we are happy to have found a vendor we like. I definitely recommend them! read more

Not sure of my overall rating yet. Came into store with decking questions. There were five guys behind desk two with customers the rest on the phone. I had a question so I asked one of the ladies for help she jumped right up trying to help. When one of the guys saw her with me ( the customer) and the other woman worker asked him a question at the same time he snapped at the lady helping me. Good customer service would dictate to help the customer in front of him but he turned his back to us and answered the employee. I did finally get help from a super helpful gentleman. I hope when we come back in a couple days to make our purchase they prove the previous post about bad customer service to non-contractors wrong. It doesn't take more than 1 second to look up and acknowledge your customer even if busy or on the phone. read more

Was doing repair work to the deck step and changed design after buying lumber. Had too much of the wrong thing and took it back. No questions, not stocking fees, just gave me my money back. Quality of the cider i got was very bad, but that is fault of the mill which it was shipped from. (mostly mechanical damage) But Dolan's took all bad boards back with no questions and had it reordered right away. they have made me a door for sauna also - SOLID !!! loved it ! bottom line, good lumber yard in neighborhood !!! read more

This is not my first rodeo, but the only bad one. Make that a completely terrible experience! (Communications, workmanship, professionalism, inability to stick to an agreed upon schedule, cooperation, technical knowledge and support, etc.) A $17K window/door job that should have taken no more than 8 weeks tops took more than 17. Josh, the salesperson at first seemed professional, but he couldn't have been more disinterested through the entire process. (Figured he must have married the owner's daughter, but was just told "He's got problems and is just careless.") First, he didn't return calls/emails so that I had to stop by 4 times to a get face-to-face status answers. Next he didn't do his research specifying the inappropriate specs. 10 installed pieces had to be removed and replaced costing Dolan's their profit - and me much dirt, delay, and frustration. First, the community association wouldn't pass the work. Next, the City of Walnut Creek wouldn't approve the work after the re-install either because of poor installation workmanship. They called the work "disgraceful" and pointed out each flaw. Windows were put in upside down and others wouldn't completely close. Adhesive was never cleaned from windows. Workers didn't clean up properly unless I pointed things out to them and they destroyed two sets of blinds and buggered up interior trim without repairing it. Also installers ignored instructions and started cutting tile in the kitchen with no advance warning thereby ruining an Apple MacPro and a brand new dehydrator with the dust. They also killed all my neighbor's scrubs adjacent to the building in the process. Had to keep calling and getting a surly receptionist while trying to get any response/action/updates. Finally as I threatened legal action, senior management stepped in to finish the job and resolve the City's approval, but I was left with the damages. Ownership apparently has no idea of how disorganized and incompetent their management and personnel are. Thoroughly disgusted, I will never, ever set foot in that establishment again. read more

Recently, we replaced two sliders with an Anderson French door and a new slider from Dolan's. This was a one day installation of almost an entire wall of doors in two rooms. They had a little finishing the following day on the moulding. Steve's crew worked quickly and professionally, cleaning up constantly and keeping everything organized. We appreciated their work ethic and obvious skill. My husband, a pretty handy guy, noted that they made everything look square on a wall that wasn't actually square-which he says takes a lot of talent. The doors look beautiful. Our most recent experience with them involved purchase and installation of a new living room window, for which we couldn't be more pleased with the result, and Steve V. and Jason W. were top notch on the installation end--prompt, friendly, thorough, and efficient. (The only less-than-5-star aspect of this recent experience had to do with the admin process, which would have been more efficient if all the paperwork and scheduling had been handled at the time of the purchase and out of the same office. Bought some lumber here for building an entertainment center and some shelves. They have multiple levels of quality per wood type and about 20+ moldings in stock. They have basic cutting tools on hand and will cut your wood for a small fee depending on how many cuts. They do not do precise cuts, so if you are building really nice furniture, they don't do routing or cabinet cuts. But for 99% of your home jobs, it will do. They have a band saw and a mounted circular saw. The cuts they made we pretty close to perfect. read more

I LOVE Dolan's Lumber!! Our local store is in Pinole, but we needed a service tech to come to our home due to a defect in a window that we purchased from Dolan's and recently had installed....Wow! Sead, from the Concord store just finished inspecting it and he was quick to determine what needs to happen to fix it. He was on time, professional and took the time to teach me how the window works, comes apart, and he guided me to put it back together! (Very empowering!!) He also gave me tips to keep the window working it's best in the future. Wonderful reminder to me that those big box stores may save a few pennies at first but that there is no customer service. After 3 weeks of trying to order a replacement window screen from Jeld Wen, Jeld Wen tells me that even though Jeld Wen is stamped all over the matching screen frame it is really a Pozzi Window screen and directed me to Dolans Lumber. So I call them and they tell me that they can only order me a replacement screen if it is under warranty........really!?....thats odd! Jeld Wen told me that they own Pozzi and they couldnt sell to me direct that I had to go to Dolans and it wouldnt be a problem. OK???? So I drive to Doland with the matching screen and go inside and talk to a "customer service" person who tells me they dont handle Pozzi so I said, thats strange, Jeld Wen told me you do and your website says you do. So I leave and while I am backing out a guy comes running out and said it was a mistake and they do handle Pozzi........I had a part # on the other screen, all they had to do was take the part # and order it but they have been screwing me around for 3 days now over something this simple! Seems to me that the tail is wagging the dog there! I GIVE UP!!!!! I called Jeld Wen and told them that their distributor cant seem to help be with something this simple so they are sending me the replacement screen free of charge. It is hard to believe that this business cant even order a part with a part #.......... I went to Dolan's for some materials for a desk project. Jeff at the counter was very helpful and pointed me in the direction of the lumber yard so that I could check out pieces of finish plywood. I ended up buying a great looking sheet of the material and having it cut there. I got a great price, too. I had some great Andersen Windows installed in a bedroom about 18 years ago and, with some house settling, one of them refused to open correctly and the other refused to shut correctly. I am selling my home and the buyers requested that I get these corrected. I contacted Dolans and they were great to work with. They sent Sead - their ace window technician - over to my house within a week and he replaced some parts and repositioned some of the hardware so that the windows now operate correctly. He knows his stuff and I was very impressed that Dolan's was able to respond so quickly to my needs. Great company! read more

Just had JC and JPK come out to look at our older heavy custom sliding patio door. We were thinking we were going to have to replace the whole door but with their time and determination John C. located parts and tracking that he new would work. They could have sold me a new door and cost me thousands but instead took the time to investigate search and improvise and I ended up being able to keep the custom door and now it operates better then it did brand new at a small fraction of the price expected. Specifically I want to send a shout out to Sead, John Paul and John W, who all have been to my house recently to repair some Anderson windows and doors purchased originally from Dolan's in 2000.
