The shop is conveniently located a couple of blocks near my hotel where my conference is located so this was a plus for me. My wife and family are caught in the macaron and cupcake craze so we have been trying out different bakeries who offer them on our travels. I've never really caught on to the craze myself since I rather enjoy a nice latte. However I do admit to having a sweet tooth so I'd give it a shot. I picked up an almond croissant, 3 macarons (pistachio, coconut, and blueberry) and a triple caramel machiatto. Everything was excellent! The croissant had a light crispy shell and it melted in my mouth. The latte was great with the right amount of espresso and creama not watered down with milk. The macarons were baked perfectly. The shell was crispy and kept its shape without falling apart when I bit into it and the filling was just the right amount of sweetness and also able to taste the flavors. Stopped in here with a buddy who had found it on Yelp, and I've got nothing but good things to say! We both had the pumpkin chai latte (limited time only), which was pretty good. I love Doly's. The outside is deceiving. It's nicer and less sketchy inside than the outside would lead you to believe. I like and work close to here, so I have been many times. They have all kinds of pastries (which I know are made fresh daily), cookies, macaroons, sandwiches, and coffee drinks. I thought the macaroons were alright - nothing to write home about. However, their pastries and cookies are delicious. The only downside is that they can run low on stock later in the day because it is all made fresh. Once it's gone, it's gone. Don't try to skirt in at closing (3:00 pm - which is another downside) and expect your favorite pastry. I've also had their blended coffees and smoothies and really liked both. The staff are also nice. They're very quiet and not the most bubbly, "coffee shop" type personalities, but they've always been kind and helpful. read more

This place is absolutely incredible!!! I was visiting Long Beach for a conference and checking yelp for any local breakfast delights and Doly's stood out. Everything about this place was fabulous!!! Day 1: Latte and chocolate, almond croissant---Lg latte $3 which can't be beat and the chocolate almond croissant was still warm, gooey, and very flakey. I've never had a croissant so delicious. Day 2: Caramel macchiato and ham and cheese croissant--Just the right amount of sweetness in the drink and again the croissant---delectable! Day 3: Latter and almond croissant--the almond croissant was bigger than the chocolate almond croissant and must've been brushed with a bit of almond flavoring as well---so good!! Well, i'm definitely going to miss this place---not because it was so delicious but also because it was verrrrry reasonably price. Both morning staff were extremely friendly! Day 12/25: They have regular food here? I only come for the macarons. Good selection of macarons and the best macarons I have had. The price is decent too. Parking would be an issue if I didn't work within walking distance (apparently parking enforcement is pretty strict around there too). I can't attest for the quality of their food or drinks since I have had nothing but their macarons. And can someone please tell me if macaroons and macarons are pronounced the same? Took my mom, who is Danish, here to try French Macaroons which she had never tried or heard of. She is a pastry/sweets FANATIC and it is often hard to impress her...well she was impressed and has since been scouring the internet looking for macaroon recipes to make her own. I'll still be coming to DoLy's until mom comes through with hers. We had: tiramisu, almond, hazelnut and salted caramel. They were all soooo good but we both agreed that the tiramisu stood out as the best. My mom thought $1.50/per macaroon was a little expensive given the size, but once she tried them, she agreed it was worth it for a once in awhile treat. You really won't see French Macaroons for any cheaper than this, although sometimes they will be bigger....these are still the best I've had. read more

This place is amazing! Macarons are SO super good. Loved the Vanilla Bean, Salted Caramel and Vietnamese Coffee ones that I tried. The Vanilla Bean cupcake is also awesome. I liked their chicken salad sandwich (in panini form) as well, and the people who work there are super sweet. Usually, I try to be more witty in my yelp reviews, but sometimes there are places so awesome that I don't even need my wit to sell them. Perfect little coffeehouse with superb fresh pastries - what more do you want? My favorite is the almond croissant. The French macarons are the current craze and these don't disappoint; Light, delicate and full of flavor. I'm still a fan of the heavy, sweet Eastern European coconut macarons as well as the crispy Italian version, but these French delicacies are a nice addition to the desert table. My only reservation is that although I ordered a 'coffee cake' muffin, what I got was more like a ginger cupcake. I think something was lost in translation. Instead I was surprised to get a delicious cup of drip coffee, great WiFi signal and whole case of pastries and treats to choose from. I went with a yummy, homemade ham and cheese croissant. Sitting right here, right now at Doly's Delectable Cafe, enjoying my favorite chocolate chip muffin. They are delish. I'm so addicted. :) My husband and I love to come here on Saturdays to grab some snack. The owners welcome you with a nice smile as soon as you enter the cafe. After learning that there is a local shop peddling macaroons, (which I LOVE), and that said shop is quite close to my home, I decided a stop was necessary. However, when I did stop, I didn't get any macaroons as it was early and I was really craving a croissant. I remembered the rave reviews about the croissants and went for some indulgence. One thing I didn't like about my stop is that it was Toyota Grand Prix weekend, free Friday, and the parking attendant gave me a hassle about parking there for a two minute stop to get a croissant... AT 7:30AM. NO JOKE. He told me that I couldn't park there and tried pushing me out of the lot (on ONE WAY BROADWAY). Otherwise it was $10 for parking. He also tried pushing me off to the lot across the street, but finally let me park when I told him all I wanted was a croissant. I purchased a pan au chocolate and an almond croissant. The pan au chocolate was just OK, lacking in chocolate really, but the almond croissant was nice. I'd like to go back and try a plain croissant and of course those macaroons. read more

Thanks to someone's review on another bakery, I came here to grab enough for 20 people. I have since returned 4 times this month because of the morning convenience . I have tried the regular coffee hot and iced and it was good. I have also tried the following muffins: blueberry, cream cheese, banana nut, coffee and poppy seed. The cream cheese being my favorite. You could definitely enjoy this muffin as dessert. The cream cheese is plenty so I just scrape off what I'm not going to eat. My guest tried the spinach and bacon quiche and enjoyed it. They make everything in house and the freshness shows. The turkey and egg croissant was so so. Parking has been good to me so far. Obviously I was drawn to this place because of the sudden Macaron fever that has swept Los Angeles. I fell ill with Macaron fever two years ago in Paris, and I've been trying to feed my addiction ever since. Los Angeles is becoming more Macaron friendly, and I like that. Me and my girlfriends hit up Dolly's Delectables in search of those elusive little colorful dollops of heaven and we found an interesting variety of flavors at this quaint coffee/dessert shop. Unfortunately, the Macarons did not pass the inspection done by us- Macaron connoisseurs. I will utilize my patented Macaron rating scale to provide you with some analysis on the nature of Dolly's Macarons: 1. Texture: I will give them a 2.5 out of 5 -Too cakey, not flakey enough: instead of flaking through the crispy crust straight into the chewey delicious center, my teeth stuck a bit. 2. Shape: I will give them a 4 out of 5 -Round and even, with enough filling in the middle, but still not perfect and not consistent in between flavors. 3. Taste: I will give them a 1 out of 5 -Red Velvet macaron tasted like sugar, Tiramisu macaron tasted like sugar, raspberry lemon macaron tasted like sugar. I got a dozen macaroons...I literally had every flavor that they had left...sadly though they didn't have any salted caramel left... I came down to DoLy's to check out the yummies, and while I was there I tried lunch as well. The lunch I would give 3 stars to. I ordered a turkey club, but they forgot my bacon (what?!). When you order a sandwich you have a choice of bread and whether it is toasted/panini/or cold. I chose the panini, but it probably would have been a lot better with a different variety of veggies (or none at all), and some cheese (my choice on the non-cheese). The sandwich came to me in a hard to open plastic container, and included a helping of potato salad and spinach leaves with a container of dressing. I also ordered an iced tea, but was not told that it was sweetened. My issue is the lack of communication here. First, I was not told about the "options" that came with my sammich (If I had, I would have said "No thanks" to the extras). Second, if you add sweetener to the tea, you need to inform your customers. Third, when I hand you a container across the counter that is almost full, and ask you to put it in the trash, you should ask, "Was everything OK with your meal?" The desserts more than make up for the crummy sammich, but woman cannot live on dessert alone. I give a solid 5 stars for the desserts!!! I got a snickerdoodle cookie and some macaroons. The snickerdoodle was delightful. Large and soft, with just a hint of cream of tartar that gives the snicker its doodle (actually, it could use a nip more, but it won't stop me from going back for more). The macaroons were melt in your mouth heavenly, and I would definitely go back for more of that lovin' (totally worth the miles run to work those babies off!!). read more

These macarons are the best. I have been craving macarons lately and am solely reviewing Doly's on them. I tried Strawberry, Blueberry, Lemon Raspberry and Vietnamese Coffee (!!!!). They have the perfect balance of outer crunch, airy inside and chewiness. The fruity flavors were delicious and the Vietnamese Coffee really captured Cafe Sua Da, condensed milk and all! Had a great conversation with her as I manage to nab the last almond croissant (as per some other Yelp reviews), a couple of macaroons, and the ham and cheese croissant. The croissant was really good! I didn't eat it right away and heated it up when I got home and it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside! The real show stopper was the macaroons. I got coffee and salted caramel but I wish i got more, they were soooo good. One of the best macaroons I've had and totally worth the hype it has on here. I bought 10, and they gave me 2 for free, for $15. I wanted to seriously try everything here! It's such a cute place although parking is metered and sometimes hard to find. OMG! This place is adorable. I was visiting Long beach and I'm so happy I stumbled upon this bakery/breakfast spot. Well, I Yelped upon it actually. The staff is amazingly sweet and will do anything to help you out. They will accommodate any silly little request. They make you feel welcome and love to chat it up. My kind of girls! The food is delish and really cheap. We ate here everyday and I almost cried when they said they were closed on Sundays. The croissant breakfast sandwich is the best. So after macaron Hunting through oc and San Fran I have came to our hands down favorite store: Dolly's bakery in down town long beach! THE MOST EWWY GEWWY CHEWY goodness in a good width and thinkness with amazing filling that's not ridiculously sweet or overly creamy like other places and not cakey. Hands down the "Vietnamese coffee" is soooo bomb! The condense milk filling I was expecting to be too sweet but to my surprise is was subtle in sweetness but ohhhhh so delightful. I would buy a dozen of just this flavor next time. $1.50 for each or 2 free with every 10 you buy. Runner ups are salted Carmel with just the right saltiness to balance the caramel and the lavender has an aromaTic delightful lightness with each bite. The neighborhood is quiet but the place is clean and the workers are really nice here :) I had a chicken sandwich/salad, some macarons, and a lemon drop cupcake. The chicken sandwich was pretty good since it was a generous portion of hot chicken and many neat layers of fresh veggies. The macarons are quite puffy but surprisingly very chewy and flavorful. They have a lot of interesting flavors. I would suggest coming earlier in the day if you want to get one of the more popular ones. We sample some of their macaroon when we visit them and also tried their sandwiches and salad. Their food and pastries were delicious. We gave Julie and Son our wedding colors and they did a wonderful job matching our wedding colors. We ended up going with salted caramel and some raspberry one (I forgot since the wife picked the flavors). Both flavors were a hit at our wedding especially the salted caramel. I love DoLy's! Great sandwiches (usually get the turkey but have had ham and Cajun Chicken and they are always just as good as homemade) -- all ingredients are super high quality. Plus you get so much food for so little (comes with a little salad and potato salad) - it's enough for my husband and I to split for lunch. However, I can never leave without a sweet treat, macarons are very good (coconut is my favorite so far) and I love the little madeleine's (those are probably my favorite for a regular treat).
