Quaint little Asian Bakery. Preordered on the phone for 50 of the Taro Mooncakes. It was hard to speak to the lady as she knew little English, but she delivered earlier than I expected. Very good quality, they are known for the taro moon cakes! It used to be about $1.00 or $1.10 each but she rang me up for $1.40 each. Nevertheless, these treats are for my coworkers so money isn't an issue. Quality is great!!! She told me to stick the Mooncakes in the freezer and either let them come to room temp or microwave before eating so they stay fresh the longest. Busy right after I left. I love their purple taro Teochew spiral mooncakes. I guess some people refer to them as the "taro buns." I also tried the green tea and the kumquat flavors, but the taro one is definitely the best. When you eat them fresh, they're flaky (you'll make a mess w/ purple flakes snowing everywhere), but even the next day when the outside is softer and no longer as flaky, it's still SO good. The mashed taro filling is the perfect amount of sweetness. Yes, it's cash only. This is the closest Bakery near me, and I do come here quite often. I usually come in the mornings when all their items are just out of the oven and pipping hot! I come here for pineapple buns mainly but tried most of their baked items. Service here is lacking in the mornings, since there's only one person running the front (at times she can't handle the line and accommodate customers that's asking for other items that's not out yet.) This is a must stop place for us every time we are out in LA. Their bakery items are soooo good. They have all sorts of buns, from the traditional BBQ pork buns to the more hip type of buns such as custard mochi buns. Just get an empty tray and tongs when you first get into the bakery shop and pick from a large selection of buns and pastry made fresh daily. They also have trays and trays of fresh bakery that are waiting to be packaged. But they don't usually make it onto the shelf for purchase as you can select the ones you want just off of the baking trays. Everything we have tried from this bakery shop is quite good. This place also makes an awesome egg tart. If you are lucky enough to be there when the egg tarts just come out of the oven, you are in for a real treat. The egg tart just melts in your mouth. It pains me to give a small business a one star on Yelp. When I was paying for my purchase at the register, the cashier asked me a question about groceries I had with me. She asked in Cantonese which I could not fully understand because it is in a different dialect than what I speak with my family. I shook my head indicating that I did not understand. She then began to talk to her coworker about me in Cantonese- which I COULD understand. I decided to let her know I could understand her - hoping this would shame her into apologizing or at least behaving better. I spoke in Mandarin and not fluently as that is also not my family's dialect. This was when she began to question my Chinese-ness by asking if my mother was Chinese and if my father was Chinese. I was shocked. Obviously, don't stop in here unless you want a side of judgment with your pastries. There are too many places in SGV for anyone to have to be subjected to such rudeness. read more

Every year when mid-autumn festival comes around, I would find myself looking for that perfect mooncake. It looks like I found it in Domies Bakery this year. I do not care for traditional mooncakes and love the stuff with the mochi-like skin ("ice-skin mooncakes"). Wing Hop Fung usually carries the Maxim's brand ice-skin mooncakes imported from HK but (1) they are pricey, and (2) they are not always available. It took me 3 tries last year to finally get a box (they ran out on my first 2 tries). When I saw an ad in Sing Tao about this bakery carrying ice-skin mooncakes, I was excited. I bought about $50 worth, with interesting fillings like purple yam, winter melon/gourd, taro, Japanese red bean, fritillaria with dried orange peel, kumquat, etc. I am very pleased with the varieities I have tried so far (taro and gourd). What I love about Domies' ice-skin mooncakes is that the lotus paste is not overly sweet and their ideas for mooncakes fillings are fresh and exciting, and definitely worth every penny of the $2.50 paid for each mini piece. read more

I came here to buy a cake or lack of a cake. I don't know what it was called but my momma does. So it's a cake without all the cream and decoration. It's was a plain rectangular cake with a thin layer of cream in the center with puff pastry. That's it! Cake (the bread part), a little bit of cream, and puff pastry. I thought it was genius. I grew up with my mom wiping all the cream off my cake and I've been doing that ever since. So, if you're not going to devour the cream, why put on the cake? Makes perfect sense. The cake was moist and light. Since the cake was cream-less I thought the puff pastry gave the cake more texture which was a nice touch. I forgot the price but it was cheap, around $13 possibly. It was really crowded but the lady did her best to get our 'cake' out as soon as possible. I enjoyed the one piece that my mom allowed me to eat. She fought me for the cake. read more

My mom called and ordered a durian cake which is one of her favorite cake, a day before she picked it up. My mom told the lady to write it down and make sure that she got her order. The lady said "yes" she did!! So the next day my mom drove 45 minutes to pick up the cake but when she got to Domies they said to her that there was no order. They don't know anything about it. My mom was so upset and disappointed. She told them that they cannot do business like that. Instead of apologizing or anything they were really rude to her. Not too happy with this place. The last couple of times I've come here I've gotten really old tarts. They were so old I had to throw them out. I always check when I get home and I feel like my money is wasted. They have also been out of a lot of things, mainly the slices of mango cake. The four star is mainly for their cakes. I'm a fan of the cakes here because they're moist, not overly sweet, and reasonably priced. My favorite cake is the mango cake with crispy layered fillings. There's a wide selection of bread, some are good and some are okay. Tried their egg tart and chicken pie which were okay. Jim's bakery is better. Tried their strawberry ice cream cake-not a fan. Service is really bad. Like there is no customer service at all. I came here once and bought the coconut rolls. I didn't notice what was on the inside. When I came home, my mom noticed that there was some green spots on the roll. Turn out it was mold. Gross. And I just bought it too. :/ they should have check their stuff before they sell it. Haven't been here myself but most of the time my aunt comes down from LA she brings this light & airy kind of cake with a slight crunch in the center and a little cream filling which is quite amazing. Rude lady (in her 50's) works in the front counter. Went on Memorial Day (5/30/16) around 3pm. I bought 5 bread and ask for an extra bag, only because I want to eat one in the car so I have a trash bag to keep all the crumbs. When asked for the extra bag, the lady replied in Chinese:" What are we going to use if you use ALL of our bags?" You must be kidding me! By asking for one extra bag means I'm consuming ALL your bags. The lady could have replied nicely by saying we are short on bags, therefore I can not spare extra bags. Their wife cakes are one of the biggest wife cakes I've ever seen. The taste is good, but it's a bit too floury though. Their Taro pastry is the BEST ! The filling is very soft and fluffy. Not too sweet, just perfect . The Mango and Durian fruit cake is also delicious! read more
