Saw this place when I went to the UPS store. The parking lot is a bit tight and is only a one way and the parking is pretty tight so if someone parks bad good luck. There is a menu on the window so you can browse the menu outside which is nice. There is a lot of space inside to wait for your food while social distancing I ordered the A6 which had hamachi and ika nigiri, California roll and poke and a miso soup. I didn't care for their poke they had in the bento because they use red onions which I think is a bit odd and not something I prefer I'd rather have white onions. My bf got the spicy poke bowl which he liked that it was sweet. While my friend got B8 - Spicy ahi bomb & salmon. Rolled up to their parking lot shared with Assagios Bistro, it's not a huge parking lot but you shouldn't have trouble finding parking. I've never been to their other locations but wanted to give this place a try since they were doing a Grand Opening special of 20% off all orders for the month of January. I pre-ordered the day prior so was able to pick up my items right away. The restaurant was fairly packed since it was dinner time but service was still great even though all the employees were up to their necks in order. The sushi was good, I enjoyed everything in the platter. The ahi didn't taste as fresh as all the other seafood but it could have just been a one off. The udon was normal/standard. I tried Domo Cafe in downtown about a month ago and didn't even realize that there was one just a block down from my house in kahala!!! I loved the Seared Salmon Don, and have been craving it for so long that I decided to go to the Kahala location and order the same thing! I love that the Kahala location has ample parking too! I saw my friend post Domo Cafe's grand opening & started seeing more people post about them. One night we were deciding what we wanted to eat for dinner and decided to give it a try. Domo cafe is the spot my bf and I go to after the dog park when we can't decide what to eat. Why you might ask? They are consistently good and decently priced. We usually will get a combo and a sukiyaki bowl, along with drinks. Udon combo: this is a great deal! For about $10 you get a bow of simple but delicious udon and a mini rice bowl. The udon is the kind of udon you want on a rainy day or when you feel under the water, the Japanese equivalent of chicken noodle soup! Usually the dashi (soup) is not the greatest with this kind of simple dish, but the dashi here was perfect. This time we also got an unagi bowl with the combo. It was tasty, not the high quality you might get at a sushi restaurant but defiantly worth the price of the combo! Sukiyaki bowl: this is my bf absolute favorite, he comes here often just for this. Again, we have had better bowls in japan, but for the price it is very tasty. Passion calamansi with mango jelly: new. Favorite. Drink. Period. I love that it's sweetened with honey instead of the simple syrupy tasting sweetener. On other occasions we did get sushi which was pretty good for the price, not sushi restaurant quality, but good for take out. Been consistently going to Domo near Kahala Mall each month because I live a couple blocks away. Overall..everything is fresh consistently from the rice, to the seaweed wrap to the fish. One of my strong dislike is when the seaweed wrap is old and loses it crunch, but Domo does a great job to keep these buggers fresh. I just had to check out Domo Cafe when they opened up. I love sushi and sashimi but figured I'd wait at least a week from their grand opening to go. I wanted to avoid waiting in a socially distanced line. The parking lot here is small and a ONE WAY! Please don't be the fool that drives in from Kalanianaole side (coming from Hawaii Kai) and turning in against the arrow. On more than one occasion I've almost had a head on collision with someone too lazy (or doesn't know the arrow pointing towards them means it's a one way) to go around the corner to the entrance. Back to Domo. The menu is pretty big considering they seem to have a few fish options along with unagi and shrimp tempura. You have your sashimi, poke bowls, nigiri and udon. The fish is so ono. They say it's straight from market. The tempura was crunchy and ono too! My grandma ordered the udon and I was expecting the soup to be separate because it was takeout but it made it back to her house (about 10min) away and was still perfect. Not sure if I will frequent Domo all the time. The grand opening 20% off was nice but if you have a big appetite the portions are a little small for the price. Another great experience at Domo Cafe. And at their new Kahala location! Word of advice, if you are in a rush, I highly recommend phone ordering ahead of time. They are now on the corner of Waialae Ave. and Kilauea Ave. next door to Assiagio's. They took the old Lanikai Juice spot. There's a good amount of parking available in front but during peak hours, it can get a little congested and might need to wait for someone to leave. I was in Kaimuki for an eye appt and remembered that Domo just opened this location. And what's even better, for opening month (January 2021) everything is 20% off!!! I love a good deal and what's better to get a good deal with delicious food?! I was done right around opening time. With my blind eyes from being dilated, I managed to call them and placed my order. Instead of getting a bunch of different things, I had decided earlier to get a platter. But I was switching back and forth between two. But when they answered I blurted out for the Kazoku platter which contains salmon & ahi nigiri, California maki and salmon & ahi garlic seared nigiri. I'm not a huge fan of ahi, so I had requested to swap out for hamachi. There was a small difference of $8, which I expected but was so happy they could and were willing to customize it. I was a little surprised that it was a 35 min wait, especially since I called right when they opened. But when I arrived I understood why. Currently, I am working from home, so some days I like to treat myself and grab takeout from a nearby local restaurant. Domo cafe is nearby and fairly new, so I decided to give it a try. Since my lunch break is only about an hour I decided to put my order in ahead of time by calling in; that worked out for the best cause they said it would take about 15-20 minutes. I called right before I went on lunch break, and after about a 5 minute drive my bowl was ready. The poke bowl was really fresh and tasty; they had a lot of different varieties, but I went with the Salmon California Bowl. I've gone back to Domo Cafe twice in the past three days since they've opened in this new location, and I think I've found one of my new favorite sushi spots! (*For the entire month of January, they are running a 20% discount off your entire order in celebration of the grand opening. The prices below were the menu-listed prices before the discount.) On the first visit I tried the E10 Domo Special Poke Bowl ($12.95). The fish tasted super fresh. Only complaint I had is that I wish there were more! Personally I think you definitely have to get at least two items to feel full. I called in my order and went around 3:30pm (on a weekday), so I didn't have any issues with an in-person line or the phone line being busy. On the second visit, I got the E11 Sashimi Bowl ($13.95) and the C3 Crispy Tempura Roll ($8.95). The sashimi pieces were nice and thick. Their spicy ahi mix has a great flavor to it, and the batter of the shrimp tempura inside the roll was still crispy by the time I got home - an issue I usually have with roll's like this from other establishments, so big points to them on this! Again I went at an off time (4:30pm on a weekday) so I didn't have any issues with waiting in-person or on the phone). Food-wise, I honestly have nothing bad to say about the place! I think the only think I have to say is I wish they kept their service to take-out only for now. They've dedicated a small part of the store off for dine-in, but I don't feel like the space is large enough and well-ventilated enough for me to be comfortable ordering and waiting for my food right next to unmasked diners. The ahi bomb had lots of rice but a small amount of spicy ahi. And the shell, the inari was soggy. Not my favorite. The garlic nigiri which consisted of (2)ebi, (2)ahi, (2)salmon and (2)hamachi. While the garlic infused butter on top was tasty, it was dominating. I couldn't really distinguish by taste one from the other. I did like the salmon nigiri besides the mushy rice. I'm so happy they opened one in Kahala!! I ordered the spicy tempura roll and the crunchy tempura roll. The spicy tempura roll was topped with diced, FRESH spicy ahi. The inside of it just had shrimp tempura but it was perfectly fine without veggies. Usually tempura rolls come with either a piece of cucumber or avocado which would've been nice but again it was totally fine without. It was $9.95 which was reasonable because it was topped with delicious fresh ahi. Loved this one! The crispy tempura roll just had shrimp tempura, no veggies and is topped with crunchy onion and unagi sauce. That one was delicious as well but honestly would've been nice if it had a piece of cucumber or avo. It was $8.95 which was reasonable as it was a large roll. My dad ordered the "A4" bento box which was only $12.95 and came with a miso soup which was soooo yummy! He substituted the Unagi nigiri for hamachi nigiri. He LOVED the hamachi and thought it tasted so fresh. The teriyaki chicken was also delicious and the Teri sauce was very authentic, it didn't taste like one of those cheap bottles you can get at the grocery store which is what a lot of restraints use so it was nice to find this tasty gem. Needless to say, this place was amazing. The fish was very very fresh and the tempura inside the sushi rolls was crunchy and perfect. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the miso was also perfectly savory and delicious. The fish was fresh. I thought that overall, the hamachi bowl was okay. I've tasted better. My friend also agreed that his salmon and ahi were fresh and overall, it was okay.
