I wanted to have pan de muerto on my ofrenda this year. I wanted to see if any local bakeries or panaderias sold it and was happy to find this in my old stomping grounds of South Hayward. The pan de muerto was tasty so that my daughter was sad to see some offered to our ancestors destined to not be eaten. We have also enjoyed their conchas and alemanas (big pound cake muffins.) I have nothing but good things to say about this bakery. I ordered a 2 tiered cake for my sons 3rd birthday 3 DAYS prior to the event because we had to cancel our order with another bakery. I was very hesitant because I've never ordered from this bakery before.... THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. My fancy and friends LOOOOVVVVED the cake (as did I). I requested a plain red and green cake (Spider-Man/hulk) with no decorations due to only giving them 3 days to fulfill. (I decorated the cake myself) I ordered a 2 tiered cake - banana w/ vanilla filling on top (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) & marble w/ vanilla filling on the bottom. The cake was SUPER flavorful and SUPER moist. Ever since the only European bakery (Andersen Bakery) was closed due to the WuHan corona virus, I was desperately search for the French "pan de mie", A.K.A. Pullman Bread in English & Premium White in Americanish. When I came across the name "polvorón" I was so excited. polvorón is a Spanish (Europe's) short breads. I thought I a was in luck. I called & explained my need to a gentleman. He told me to drop by & said he might have what I wanted. It turned out we were lost in translation. I was referring to pan de mie , he thought I was talking about the pound cake. But every story always ended up with a happy ending. After getting a few dinner roll, I was told the minimum credit charge is $5.00. I have not been carrying any cash for over 10 years. So I picked some more expensive pastries to make up for the payments. 1) I got the empanadas de quest. It is just like the Armenian Piroshki. Instead of beef or potatoes like the Russians, or cheese like the Mexican, the Armenian have something similar to the salami. The Armenian & the Mexicans are baked. The Russians are deep fried. 2) I also have the pan dulce con ajonjolí & the pan relleno. I was pretty skeptical about the sweetness of these pastries. I expected them to be just as bad as those of the American. But surprisingly, they are so Europeanized. Next round I will get the Concha. For the French -chinese cakes I have 98C degrees. Hopefully Andersen could open up soon. They are the only Western European bakery in the Bay Area. Still I am desperately searching for the French pan de mie. I need that for my breakfast & sandwich. Meanwhile I will just have to deal with those mushy supermarket bread. The American bakery just could never step up to the plate. read more

I can't rant and rave enough about this place. I had a huge event last weekend and we forgot to order the cake. Party was on Saturday and I thought about the cake on Thursday. They were amazing. They made two cakes for us. One for the cake cutting ceremony and one huge flat for serving. Both cakes were gone. Everyone loved it. I ordered a cake for a coworker who absolutely loves tres leches. I placed the order over the phone and I told them I wanted everything in blue. When I get there, the cake looked so sloppy and the writing was red. It just looked so tacky. They added a strawberry on each corner. It looked like one of the strawberries was too heavy that it fell and messed up the frosting. I tried to add more strawberries to the front where it messed up but it still looked bad. I love this place for breakfast food. I get the huevos con jamón or huevo con chorizo burrito. They have really good Atole. It's hard to find a place that sells good breakfast food but this is the best one. My daughter loves the Popusa revuelta. They also have a good torta de pierna.
