Came here while on a small vacation home, pretty late night and sat at the upstairs bar. Melvin was our bartender/server and took fantastic care of us. He was funny and conversational whilst still giving us our space to relax. He made and helped us pick some great drinks, and we consumed most of the cocktails on the menu before we left, and took our food to go. Rice bowls we're still pretty good reheated the following day. My boyfriend and I couldn't find anything else open around us since it was past 10pm so we settled for this place. We called to make sure they were open this late and a kind woman answered and confirmed they were open until 2am. Perfect, so we drove there and as soon as we walked in, the same woman ok the phone greeted us kindly. The place looked hip and had a very romantic setting to it. We get walked all the way to the end of the booth sections, she seemed to want to sit us upstairs but then the woman and some of her coworkers seemed to argue about where we should be sat, so my boyfriend and I just stared at each other. Finally they decided to sit us at a booth. The waiter was kind and alert, food was good. I think the price was reasonable. My boyfriend tried empanadas and a few different flavors of tacos, he liked them all. I friend empanadas, siracha and buffalo chicken tacos, very good. They were kind enough to look for the baseball game I requested. This is a fun restaurant with some excellent taco offerings. The prices are good and the food is excellent quality. As a hardcore meat eater I must say the vegetarian options were incredible. Yummy food, great service and laid back atmosphere. We ordered a variety of tacos, the empanadas, the Guac, the fried Oreos, the churro, a Mexican Mule and a Fresca. All delicious. My favorites were the quinoa sweet potato tacos...OMG delicious. The buffalo chicken tacos were also good. The only taco that I didn't really like was the Mahi Mahi. It wasn't bad just not as good as the rest. The Guac was amazing...not table side like some of the popular DC restaurants but way better. The fried Oreos was the perfect end to a delicious meal. They stay open until 2am so I can see this being my late night hang out place...plus the prices aren't bad. Our bill was $120 for 4 people, 3 drinks, 15 tacos, 3 empanadas, large Guac, 2 orders of fried Oreos and an order of churros. read more

First place I've found in the DMV whose tacos even begin to compare to Tacos found in TX! Try the buffalo chicken taco its to die for! The Jerk Shrimp taco could use a little more kick to it but it was still good! Also the service was great and the manager made sure to stop by our table and make sure that everything was ok! Disappointed. Walked around Old Town looking for a place to eat and this place looked/sounded great. I ordered lomo soltado. I've had this a few times at other restaurants and it is one of my favorite dishes. Here it was one of the worst that I've eaten. It was.served.in a pool of grease, small portion (grease at least made it filling), and it said it had shoestring fries. Met a friend there for dinner tonight. Great simple menu and ordering system where you just check off or write how many of each type of taco you want on a little sheet. However the simple menu and ordering system is great until you need specific things. I asked for no cheese, no dairy and it still had sour cream on it. But you'd never know since the menu is super simple! The food was alright, I had the mahi mahi, the skirt steak, sirracha chicken, and Buffalo chicken. I'd say my favorite was the Buffalo. Their tacos are okay. They have excellent menu options but the way they put it all together in a taco is not the greatest. I really like their empanadas so thats a plus. Most of their cocktails do not have enough alcohol on them. The place is very crowded. It's located in the middle of Downtown Alexandria which is a great spot. Just tried Don Taco for the first time. Tacos were delicious and the entire staff (from the hostess, to the waiter, to the busboy, to the bartender) was extremely friendly and accommodating. Came here because we had a taste for Mexican. Upon, walking in there was a hostess and a server standing at the host stand, the hostess barely cracked a smile while the Server (shorter muscular man with a close cut) stared past us,so you can imagine our excitement when I found out he would be our server. I will say this place is not kid friendly, we requested 2 boosters but were seated at a booth and the boosters kept sliding downwards, no kid menus. With the exception of the manager and the guy who brought out our boxes the other employees had a pretty cold demeanor. Our server was pretty much talking to us in mid step when he would ask if needed anything and he literally was just standing at the host stand and at the bar my husband had to flag him down a few times. The food I initially thought was good, I got 2 portobello and 1 sweet potato and quinoa taco, assuming that they were both vegan (there was no description on the menu). When they arrived they all were drizzled with sour cream. I completely understand I should've asked to make sure but thought it was odd when I ordered 3 more of the same without the sc the server didn't offer to take it off or even remove the current one. But when they did come the taste overall was pretty good. My husband enjoyed his tacos. I ordered a rice bowl to go and was excited to dig in, the tacos are very small, but our server did warn us of this. On the way home my stomach started feeling very weird to the point of nausea. And the only thing I can attribute that to is my meal here. I can't say we'll be back or recommend this place, Old Town has so many options with A+ service AND food, so I'm disappointed we ended up here. read more

The first time we ate here was great. Fast forward to now, my wife and I felt like having mexican food, and we decided to order from here. But this meal was total trash. The steak in the quesadilla tasted like cheap canned beef stew. The tacos were dry, had no flavor and tiny ( I'm used to street taco but this was unreal). The tuna was basically raw. Margarita Down! Margarita Down!! Calling in backup! So here is what happened....four friends arrived to have dinner before the Sting show in National Harbor. So many great Yelp reviews so what could possibly could go wrong?! We were seated quickly, greeted warmly, explained the menu and how everything works with choosing the different tacos. Three friends ordered margaritas, and one ordered wine (don't judge her for ordering wine in a tequila bar). We had the gauc which was great! Tacos came out quickly and were delicious! Loved the fried avocado and the jerk shrimp. Time for another round of drinks... only our second so we were not inebriated or acting crazy. Same thing this time... three margaritas and one wine. Just after our server set down the drinks one friend accidentally knocked over his margarita. He was reaching to keep the chips from spilling over and just by poor luck knocked over his drink. We waited a bit thinking, oh of course they will bring over another margarita because that was clearly an accident and he had not even taken a sip of the drink. Meanwhile we ordered more food while we waited. The offer of the replacement drink never came. We explained what happened and the server said he would check with the manager as he was not authorized to make the decision. This was alarming. They clearly do not empower their employees to make customer service based decisions. The server came back over and said he was sorry but the manager said no. This was not about the "free" drink. This was about the manager's poor leadership and unnecessary power struggle. We thanked him, as he had been completely helpful and professional the entire time. We said we will not need that food we ordered after all. The manager then came over and said "I understand you have an issue." She never introduced herself or asked my name. I said "the issue is that the drink was completely full with not a sip taken and it was spilled accidentally and your refusal to accommodate means we just won't ever be back." She said "well the server maybe did not do something right but I am not allowed to do anything". So now she was selling out her own employee! Completely poor leadership! He did not do anything wrong! I said "you are basically making the decision to sacrifice repeat business and word of mouth (and Yelp) over one replacement margarita." She said,"well VA law does not allow me to do that." There is an alternative fact! We have all been to many a restaurant where things happen with alcohol and food and they always take care of customers. That is why I say this was about the manager's poor leadership and power struggle. I could see her making that decision if we were all acting out of sorts, but that was not the case. In the end, the server said the manager ended up not charging for the spilled drink. Well wow, thanks. That means you could have just replaced it and avoided the unnecessary drama! What is done is done. And what is done is this place. Despite the great food and good service from our waiter, the poor leadership and "policy" driven decisions will mean never a repeat visit, and one very big mouthed friend (not me) to tell everyone she knows to never go! read more

The tacos here are delicious! I ordered surf and turf, fried oyster and grilled portobello. My fav was the mushroom followed by surf and turf. Happy hour was fun and they make delicious margaritas that aren't sickly sweet.
