This is the best taco-related experience I have ever had in the City of Alexandria, and one of the best taco-related experiences I have ever had in Northern Virginia. This place works like a sushi bar: you get a little strip of paper with kinds of tacos on it, and you mark down a "1" or "2" or whatever else next to the tacos you want. The tacos are $2.95 each for basic ones, $3.95 each for more complex ones. I had three tacos, they were all great. They don't just put a pile of meat into a corn tortilla, they clearly put a lot of thought into what else goes into the taco (sauces, vegetables, beans, etc.) to complement the flavor of that specific meat. Overall, you're going to have a very easy, flavorful experience here. And by King Street standards, the prices are amazing. You're going to have to go deep into Fairfax County to find a better value. read more

Love this place! The fried avocado and tempura cauliflower tacos are my favorite! The burritos are decadent and flavorful as well. The jalapeño margarita is one of the best I've ever had: actually spicy, sour and a little sweet. This little spot on King Street has been through so many name changes that I cannot keep up but it looks like they have finally found the right recipe: tiny little tacos and a bar stocked with tequila! The tacos are tiny and expensive but that helps keep the calories down! Unless of course you order the queso and then you need to have plans to visit the gym before bedtime! Amazing! Went with some friends this afternoon and we ordered just about one of everything on he menu and didn't have a compliant! The drinks were good as well! $4 bloody Mary's & $2 mimosas! Omg and desert was fabulous- must try the fried Oreos! Definitely check this place out, you won't be disappointed. Not 5 stars, but more than 4, so I rounded up. My son was home visiting from college - he's a big fan of Mexican, so we opted for Don Taco for a night out. The house salsa was excellent -- made with roasted tomatoes. Taco chips were just right. The tacos are reminiscent of tapas -- joyful little bundles of fresh deliciousness. A really nice selection of taste combinations. Tho' the place was crowded, the food came out quickly. Service was attentive, but not obsequious. Not cheap, but good value. I've been to this place twice now and it's great! The service is awesome, they have great happy hour specials all week and the tacos are delicious. It can get a bit pricey if you go all in, but the quality is definitely there. The tacos run from 2.75 to 3.75 each but the flavors are wonderful! They are much more complex than your average taco. I really liked the pomegranate glazed skirt steak and the buffalo chicken (strong bleu cheese flavor, fyi). I recommend ordering either chips and salsa, chips and guac, or chips and queso with your order. The chips and salsa are only $3 and they give you unlimited chips after you order them. Margaritas are really good, and on Mondays between 5 and 8 they are half off (the original flavor). Also, get the fried oreos...just do it. read more

I used to love this place, until today....we saw a huge cockroach crawling on the floor by the bar, when a server saw it, he stepped on it and picked it up with a rag then made a joke. The HH used to be awesome with $5 margs but now they are a $8 glass of sour mix (with a dirty glass....plus your debit card and anything else the bartender touches comes back sticky) the downstairs bathroom is located next to the kitchen, which was weird at first but didn't bother me because it used to be extremely clean. Not so much tonight, I attempted to use the bathroom before leaving but it was filthy. I loved our waiter, he was great! But the atmosphere was dirty which is unfortunate. read more

Monday nights are half off margaritas. The frozen strawberry was delicious. You order by the taco and they have a wide variety of types. I ordered the fried avocado, buffalo chicken, and the surf and turf. I wanted the avocado to be a little more fried but it was tasty. My favorite was the surf and turf. I stopped by Don Taco after the Alexandria Art Festival. It is a two floor taco bar with an okay amount of seated dining tables. There is a good bit of space at the upstairs bar which is where we ended up sitting as there was a bit of a wait for dine in seating. Don Taco was pretty jumpin', everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and we were able to grab a seat upstairs immediately. The menu simple and concise. The prices are affordable and give you the options to get a few different items without running up your bill. There was a laid back vibe and it's a great place to link up with friends or take a date. I had three tacos, chicken sriracha, lamb and sweet spicy mahi mahi. We also ordered the chicken nachos as well. Each of the tacos came layered with crunch and flavor. My favorite was between the mahi and lamb because I think those meats came with a little bit better flavor. The chicken nachos are a good portion that can be split or consume by people like me who can on occasion (see frequently) overeat. I tried the vegetarian bowl with mushroom as a meat substitute and it was a good size as well as a decent bowl. The service was good with the exception of forgetting to bring out the extra jalapenos we requested. Overall all the food was pretty good but the chicken on the nachos and in the tacos lacked a little flavor in my opinion while the lamb and mahi mahi both had a much better meat flavor profile. So fresh, innovative, and delicious! The guac is a little pricey and worth every penny, it was perfectly creamy and slightly tart with fresh lime juice and chunks of avocado. Bulgogi taco, cauliflower tempura taco, bubba gump shrimp taco, might sound weird but they are so uniquely tasty and filled with fresh well-balanced ingredients. There are many good food options around Alexandria, but I look forward to this one again next time I'm in town. read more

The decor of this restraint is very cool, but the tacos are tiny and bland. The menu is confusing and unclear about what's on them, so if you have dietary restrictions, don't go. It's a good place to drop in for a drink, but go somewhere else for your actual dinner. read more

This was once one of my go to spots in Alexandria. Unfortunately, I had the terrible experience of feeling a roach the size of my thumb crawl up my back (I initially thought it was a fly) and then up my leg. It was only after I jumped up and my husband turn his phone light on did we realize it was a roach. We asked to switch tables just so we could be at a table instead of a booth just to at least finish our meal. You would think that after that experience we'd get more attention; however, we realized that experience like that deserved having a less attentive staff that obviously was not phased by the fact that a roach crawled on one of their patrons. Don Taco is a great little spot on King street. It's not very expensive, which is rare for the area. They have a nice variety of options, and if you get them carryout they actually travel quite well, which is really unusual for tacos in my experience. Good drinks too - at least the ones I've had. I've been here a couple times and after last night's visit it's confirmed that this is my favorite taco joint in Alexandria! They have some really tasty flavored margaritas - the passion fruit was my favorite! I also love the spicy sweet heat cocktail. Excellent recommendations from our server, Natasha, who took really good care of us. The taco of the week is a duck taco and I'm really hoping they add it to the regular menu. Was absolutely delicious! Couldn't leave without my deep fried oreos - a must have. There are mixed reviews for this place but I'm sure if you read all the reviews the one common factor is that the food is great. I dropped in one night for a take out, had 2 beers while I waited. The bar man seems to do the bare minimum to serve you, he is slower than molasses. Infact all the staff could do with some motivation. Would I eat their? No, but I would get take out all day long. The Customer service here is GREAT! It is a go to for any kind of social. Nice night out with the ladies for tacos and drinks, great for after work, and not too upscale or too much of a relaxed environment for date night. The food is AMAZING!
