Very good tacos but be prepared to order a few of them. The tacos are very small and will be gone in three bites. You can go with the $2.75 or $3.75 premium tacos. I went with the Surf N Turf and they were delicious. My friend had the pot belly and said they were pretty tasty. Drinks are pretty expensive but is to be expected. I love this place. I work up the street and it's easy to pop in and get great Mexican food. The staff members are super friendly. They offer quick and attentive service no matter how busy they get. Been here a few times and tried a couple of different tacos on the late night happy hour menu. My favorite one is the pomegranate glazed skirt steak, followed by the fried oyster taco. Tasty, two bite tacos! We each got two (el gringo, chicken, bubba gump shrimp) and loved every bite. We also shared the large chips and guac, which I think for $9 is a little pricey for the quality. This place just isn't good. Arrived here on a Friday night with reservations and was seated promptly. The haphazard design and divey atmosphere can work for a place like this, if the food is good. We ordered guacamole, 2 house margaritas, and 6 different tacos. The guacamole was decent though needed seasoning. The tacos were poorly executed. They arrived all together on a sheet pan (imagine dining with a large group and having to sort through 40 tacos to pick yours), and were cold. I could handle the poor serving method and less than optimal temperature but each taco was covered in the same spicy creamy sauce that over powered everything else. They were just bad. They actually forgot to bring one of the 6 tacos we ordered, and we just asked them to remove it from the bill. I might return for a drink, but would never eat here again. read more

What a fabulous idea. Even though it says small dishes the mixed salad was large, the chicken nachos were fabulous and very generous! The empanadas were large and tasty. The tacos were really tasty too. They are small bites but very satisfying. As busy as it was on a Saturday night we had excellent service. The ONLY thing I'd ask them to do is to change the backs in the booth seats. They are straight up and down so quite uncomfortable. Sorry guys, forgot to take a pic of my food because I was so hungry lol but I got the chicken rice bowl which was hand-shredded chicken, green and red peppers, cheese and guacamole over a bed of yellow rice. It was seasoned wonderfully and came out of the kitchen VERY quickly. The bar tender was pleasant and made good drinks. I got a Cadillac Margarita and because it's a tequila bar, they use fresh lime juice instead if premade margarite mix!! Nice atmosphere: a small outdoor eating area and an upstairs and downstairs which both contained a bar and also tables. The only thing is, because it is a speciality bar, even though the food I priced reasonably, they're definitely charging for the drinks. But I've definitely added this to my list of restaurants to revisit. read more

I've been here on two separate occasions and have been unimpressed both times. First time the individual at the bar was terrible; today the hostess was rude but the individual working the bar was surprisingly cordial. Both times the food was subpar at best. The drink specials are great if you're looking for a margarita deal ($8 House margaritas) but they do have Dos Equis on draft for $4.50 if you're a beer drinker. The tacos are absolutely amazing. The waitperson was super friendly, gave us the run down on how ordering works and suggested a few things since it was our first time there. The margarita she suggested was AMAZEBALLS! Yes. It was really really good! I loved the chicken empanada and the sauce it comes with is wonderfully flavorful. I ordered the bahn mi tacos, buffalo tacos and the sweet potato taco. The sweet potato taco had the most flavor of the three and ultimately my favorite. I love tacos. I love good tacos. I can't eat enough street tacos! The sweet potato taco ranks high in my list! Decent margaritas ($10 for a traditional one) and great ambiance. We went to see some football on a Sunday night and there was a fair share of tv screens to enjoy. There was a decent amount of small plates to choose from. Good taco selections with the more interesting fillings (mahi mahi, fried oyster and pomegranate steak) costing more. I would recommend though to stick with the more traditional fillings (cheaper too). Tacos are on the pricier side for what you get. Stars: 3 for food, 5 for service and experience. Husband and I love tacos, and have been to many shops looking for our local favorite (spoiled by too many great choices in Austin, TX). We came in with open mind, and love the "dim sum/tapas" setup. We tried many of their tacos, couple of small plates, and had a few margaritas (half price deal..!). Here are my husband and my thoughts: Sweet and Spicy Mahi Mahi - this was the first one I tried and it ended up being my favorite. Good balance of flavor but fish was a smidge over cooked. Buffalo Chicken - Husband had this one. He didn't bring any attention to it, so not sure if it was remarkable. Not bad, but not "wow". Banh Mi - Not remarkable. Meat was a bit dry, but ample amount of it in the taco, as well as a tasty sauce. Not a strong flavor, but my second favorite of the ones I tried. Mexican Short Rib - again, the theme for the tacos this night were dry meat and under flavored (maybe even cold food...though I like it that way). Couldn't wait to get through this to get to the next taco. Pork Belly - We had saved this one for last, as we are both fans of pork belly. We each had one and neither of us were wowed. He mentioned he thought it was more like pork loin than belly. Either way, not the most flavorful and left me a bit disappointed. Beef Empanada - Tasty filling..! It was chunks of beef, not ground, and had pretty delicious flavor. Would probably order this again, though not the best Empanada I have had (not even top 5). Pepito Slider - this was my absolute favorite thing that we ordered. Good flavor, good ratio of bread: cheese: meat. Would definitely order this again..!! Cheese Quesadilla - solid quesadilla and this was the only thing we got that was actually hot. The pico di gallo was bright and delicious and perfectly seasoned. This was the perfect pairing to the quesadilla. Overall: the place had a great vibe, and would certainly return for a happy hour (snacks and drinks) but not for a dinner destination. Sound level was good for a date (can have a conversation). The wait staff was excellent.! I forget her name, but she handled our table (inside) and we saw her attending the tables outdoors as well...no lapse in our service (left her 20%...would certainly sit at her tables again). I would come back again to see if it was a one-off kind of night or if it is indeed a 3-star flavor kind of spot. read more

Turned out Tuesday featured a 3 tacos for the price of two deal, so I ordered a grouper taco as my free one and ended up enjoying it the most -- delicious light flaky texture. I'm originally from southern California, so I'd like to think I know a thing or two about good tacos, and let me just say this place is it! They have a unique selection of tacos that made making a decision very tough. I decided on the sriracha chicken and fried avocado tacos, both flavorful and outstanding! In addition to offering tasty food at a decent price, the atmosphere of the restaurant is very fun and lively. Despite living in Old Town for 4 years, I typically venture to DC when I'm looking for a cool bar or restaurant. Don Taco has all of the qualities of a hip DC restaurant, from the lighting, to the music. It's a great place to have dinner with friends or stop in for a drink at the bar. Also, all of the staff were super friendly, and our host did an excellent job of explaining the concept and menu. The only disappointment was the size of the margaritas. They were surprisingly small for the price, but they were strong so I suppose it balances out. Overall, a great experience and I'll definitely be going back! read more
