This is a pretty cool place, nice decor. Our server was very enthusiastic and friendly, the one who just moved from Alaska. The beef/chicken empanadas and chips and salsa were amazing. The chips and salsa were so good I had to get an order to take home to eat that night. We tried multiple tacos. The only one we did not like was buffalo chicken. We both said it tasted like nothing and there was definitely no hint of buffalo taste, weird. My only other criticism is while the sushi checklist style cards are very cool and efficient, there still needs to be information listed somewhere telling you what comes on the food. I had to pick some of the ingredients off 2 of my tacos and my friend had to send her burrito bowl back and wait for it again because she had no way of knowing it had guacamole on it. People need to know what food they are paying for, and shouldn't have to ask the components of every single item. it needs to be listed somewhere for customers. So some good, some not so good things but overall we liked it. read more

When asked to be seated for two the host said hold on two people were paying. All the booths are the same size and fit up to four. A group of gentlemen walked in 5 minutes after us, while we were still waiting and did not have a reservation and were seated in the empty booth immediately. I also asked if the roof top was open the host said no. Later a party of 8 walked in and they took them to the roof top. Tacos and tequila??? Hmmm..Flying in from Chicago close.to midnight, i asked my boyfriend to look up a place to grab a bite to eat. Since this joint was open til 2 am we decided to try it and also because of the high ratings. We needed reservations? Yes.. we were told it gets busy. We got there and it wasnt too busy. We both ordered the surf and turf, mahi mahi buffalo chicken, and jerk shrimp. The server was nice but as he was talking i felt like the need to cover my glass of water...because as he was sayin it he also sprayed it. The servers seem to push for surf and turf and buffalo chicken as i overheard another server saying the exact same thing to another table of customers as our server said to us...like they learned a script. Took a bite of the buffalo chicken. Nasty. Took a bite of the surf and turf, gross. In fact it felt like roast beef from a can just laid out on a tortilla. Jerk shrimp was too sweet. Music was cool. Atmosphere was decent. Tacos were horrible...i would see why most people who mightve had one too many tequila or drinks would like this joint because after that many drinks of course garbage would be tasty. Odd taco combos favors...Roasted chicken sriracha tasted like dog food. (I spit it out) Surf & turfs was very good.

Back in Alexandria again and had to visit my favorite spot. Tried their taco of the week this time around it was a pork bahn mi = delicious! Unfortunately my server from last time, Natasha, was not working but our server took good care of us. The lamb chimichurri, surf and turf and short rib remain my favorites. What a great place! Wondered in by accident. I had two of their street tacos, some guacamole and a margarita (or two). Not my first rodeo and I have to say all three were the best I've ever had! Love this place!! Best specialty tacos I have had in the area. I've been there 3 times and it keeps getting better. The guacamole is my favorite and the salsa has a really great smokey flavor. My biggest problem is I don't save room for all the tacos I want to order! The mahi tacos are phenomenal, something about the sweet and the spicy that just tastes so good. My other favorites are the sriracha chicken, the jerk shrimp, the buffalo chicken, the beef with the pomegranate sauce....those are just my top picks but there are so many other really unique flavor choices. I also tried their dessert for the first time the other night. The gelato is so good. They serve it in a big waffle cone and it's the perfect ending to all those taco flavors. The bar upstairs is also really cool. The white lights and the music make it feel so modern and open. The signature drinks are really good too. The sweet heat and the jalapeno margarita are my go to drinks, but I tried the Fresca the other night and that was awesome too. The bartenders definitely know what they're doing behind the bar. I'll be going back for more tacos and another jalapeno marg!! read more

I've been here a number of times and have never been disappointed. The tacos are amazing and pretty reasonably priced. The fried avocado is a personal favorite. They have two sizes of guac, small and large. The small is more than enough but if you're feeling hungry and have a few friends the large option is great. The guac is always fresh and delicious. They also have great margaritas, with various fun flavors. I recommend the mango! My one complaint is that the margaritas are ridiculously expensive. I spent more on one margarita than I did on three tacos and a serving of guac split with a friend. Other than that, they're a great choice on King street, and have various weekly specials so you can splurge on that extra marg. read more

So, Don Taco has the smallest tacos known to man. And then charge like 5 bucks a piece. Which is crazy expensive. And they're not even that good. And then they ask you if you want chips and salsa when you sit down, but fail to mention you are going to be charged for frickin' chips and salsa. They also fail to describe their tacos adequately. For example, we ordered a "Jerk Shrimp" taco. Now I don't know what your expectations are for a taco titled with two words "Jerk Shrimp", but a taco with two unseasoned fried shrimp does not meet what most people would consider "jerk shrimp". You had an entire frickin' line to describe your taco Don Taco menu writer, "jerk shrimp" was not the two words you were looking for. I understand this is the only taco joint in Old town Alexandria, so it gets crazy good reviews, but the value for what you pay at this place frickin' sucks. read more

I could of given this place four stars. But I'm going to stick with three. For starters we waited for 15 mins until the waiter came to our table. The hostess was at the bar and I had to gesture her to tell the the waiter to come to the table for us to begin our order. The waiter, served a table of two women that came in right away versus my boyfriend and I that we're sitting there for over 15 mins. And the kicker about this, the upstairs area where we were sitting, really wasn't that busy. The food was ok and the drinks were ok. I really had high hopes for this place since it got high remarks from friends and acquaintances that I know. Maybe the next time I come here to this establishment, the experience will be enjoyable. read more

I LOVE DON TACO!!! The first time I visited everything was delicious. The other day I went for brunch for the first time and I'm not sure if it was a different chief, but the guacamole was horrible! The only thing worse than the guacamole was the service my server provided me and my friend with. Also they brought both of my empanadas out burnt, I didn't even bother eating them. It was a bad experience and it completely shocked me, because all four of my previous experiences at Don Taco were great! I won't give up on them! Good addition to the King Street ecosystem. My two minor quibbles is that their happy hour offerings are a tad unclear and a tad skimpy, and all the giant flat screens in a small, narrow space don't really mesh with with the decor and lighting going on. But the cocktail execution is good, and the food is very good - I don't think you could go wrong with any of the taco options. Service seemed a bit tentative/under-trained, but very attentive. When salsa instead of the ordered guac came to our table, management stepped in before we could even note it and gave us guac on the house. Will definitely go back. read more

Don Taco is probably one of my favorite restaurants in Old Town. Both the GF and I enjoy sampling the variety of small gourmet tacos. I even ventured into uncharted waters and ordered my first Margarita here! I must say the food is fantastic and is ready really quick, even with it as busy at it always is. The gourmet-style tacos are amazing, and I guarantee there is something on the menu anyone, even the most persnickety person would enjoy! The staff was super friendly and quite knowledgeable as well. Tacos are all amazing! A fantastic variety with something for everyone. I find the size appropriate for the price, and if you're planning to try a few (or many) of them out. Service was great and fast. The tacos were absolutely amazing and fresh!! The chicken empanada was quite tasty as well. I was a bit disappointed with the happy hour specials. The tacos are reasonably priced but to see that the late night happy hour you can buy 3 and get 1 free and not during the early evening I was a bit surprised, but I was really disappointed at the drink specials since they are different each night! Being a tequila bar I was surprised not to see any tequila specials. The margaritas are tasty and strong, but a bit pricey, especially for the size and would like to see them 1/2 off more than one day a week. I've been to Don Taco twice since it opened and have had two great experiences. This place reminds me of a lot of the popular taco restaurants I've seen in San Diego, which creates a great vibe. The salsa is great- its a nice consistency and served with cilantro on top. Its also great with the guacamole, which has a nice citrus taste. My favorite tacos are the fried avocado, short rib, bahn mi, and most of all, the pomegranate skirt steak. A new and different vibe in Old Town- definitely reccommend! read more

GREAT FOOD, SERVICE SUCKS :-( I love the food at this place but they just can't get the front of the house service together. Every time I come there I have to hunt down a waitress SMH doesn't make any sense. Tonight we saw the waitress one time, we then had to ask some one else for eating utensils, something to drink and for our bill. SMH spoke with manager and he didn't offer a sorry or nothing. He couldn't even ring us up. From now on take out will be the best bet for me. read more

I had a couple different kinds of tacos. They were okay. They are tiny, two bites. The guac is great. It ends up getting pricey kind of quickly, and I was hungry again just a little while later. They are doing the tapas style thing which I just don't really love. I'd consider this a bar with some good food to snack on, not somewhere to go for dinner though. read more
