I tried Donahoo's for the first time after living in Riverside for 25 years and was I ever pleased with the quality. I purchased a family meal that came with 20 pieces of chicken, mojos...so much better than Shakeys, and biscuits that were old school, large, soft, yummy and many of them! I also had substituted the coleslaw for fries, which was missed, but so happy it was as the coleslaw is the best I have tasted...it had little slivers of almonds in it that I had never experienced before and just loved it. The Riverside location is small and not setup for dine in and chicken is cooked to order, which takes approximately 20 minutes, but you can call in advance. The customer service was great and is under new management/ owner since October of this year. Apparently before it was cash only from prior reviews, but now cards are accepted. The wait was about 20 mins but so worth the wait ! The chicken and mojos were fresh and delicious ! I will most definitely be coming back ! Everything was fresh , the chicken and mojos had great seasoning . The employees were so nice and even gave me a free dinner roll . Nice people nice place ! Call before you go ! They open and close when they want too , and I believe they are closed on Tuesdays ...recently I've been twice before 7 which is their listed closing time and they have been closed both times...last night I arrived at 6:15 and the guy was closing up because he said they had been "slow" ...pretty annoying ! This is not a sit down restaurant, and a good piece of advice is to call in your order before you go there. They only accept cash here. The front of this store is SUPER ghetto. LOL. I almost drove past it, so when you're driving here kind of look up and look for the sign so you don't miss it. So I called in and ordered a 16 piece chicken family meal, which comes with 16 pieces of chicken, a box of mojos, coleslaw, and 7 dinner rolls. The lady said it would take about 30 minutes. So we got there at 40 minutes, just in case she was running late with making the food. When you go in, you see this super cute old Filipino lady in her slippers. She was super nice, she asked if I was Filipino, but I had to let her down and say that I am a very dark Vietnamese person. They ran out of coleslaw, so she gave me extra chicken, extra mojos, and extra rolls. AWESOME OPOSSUM! The food was ready right when we got there. For the 16 piece meal it was about $30-ish. The food is absolutely amazing, it is a little bittersweet that I live kind of far from this place, because it's so good and I would eat here all the time, but I'm glad it's far or I would die extremely early. The fried chicken had tasty seasoning, crunchy, and moist. The mojos were freaking awesomeeee, it has the same seasoning as the chicken. The dinner rolls were BOMB! This place is amazing. I am so sad that I basically discovered this place on my last year here. The price is a little bit steep, but so is your health. I would eat here sparingly. I overheard a conversation that this place was amazing. And surely it did NOT disappoint. Went to Donahoo's today. Got to talking with the girl behind the counter and she said she was the new manager. The previous manager was having trouble running the business, thusly, the crazy hours, but she was there to take over and keep it going strong. Some changes are coming, but the food will stay the same. They have already painted the sign outside. Still a CASH ONLY business. Call ahead to cut your wait time. Benches inside to sit on and wait, but no seating to eat there. Some things aren't changing. The chicken has very good texture, both the skin crunch and the meat is moist and tender . What's missing is flavor. It's another fried chicken joint that thinks seasoning isn't important; trust me it is. It's not enough to have the right equipment to cook a crispy chicken. This is one of those "hole in the walls" you don't judge by it's appearances. Food has always been amazing! As some of the recent reviews mentioned, there has been a change in management. Previous owner was getting too old & was unable to manage but didn't want to retire. Family had to step in and some recipes were family secrets that the grandmother refused to give up. So I would say give the new management some grace as they make the transition. I guess I missed the "boxed to go" signage when browsing through the Yelp pictures, as I walked in expecting to sit down and eat chicken. The chicken strips were okay, certainly better than KFC's...but the Chicken Run in Moreno Valley is light years ahead. The fries that came along with it was clearly the frozen type. Donahoo's has been around for decades. I have been a customer for over 35 years. The business has gone through ownership and management changes. Fried chicken is their specialty. I moved from the area and very seldom near enough to get Donahoo's chicken. Recently I stopped by and met the new owner, a charming young woman and eager to get new customers into her take-out restaurant. I found the chicken (and gizzards) to be very good tasting , moist, and tender. The proportions to be very generous. It seems though that the seasoning is missing something it used to have. All and all I still give Donahoo's a 5 star rating. The young woman is trying very hard to make it work and deserves your business. Unfortunately , since Covid, she is short on help and that slows the process, my advise is to call and order ahead. read more

They used to be a lot better a few years ago. It was our go-to place for fried chicken & strips. However, the last few times we stopped in there, the chicken was WAY overdone, as were the strips. The place is dated but clean. Customer service was excellent! The food however is not even a fraction of what it once was. It's just OK no flavor.. They use some kind of tempura batter on the chicken. They have tempura battered mojo style potatoes instead of regular French Fry's. Did I mention Everything had no flavor. Ive eaten their chicken, though i never actually been here. dont let the looks of the place thwart you. I had chicken from there and i would have to say that it is way better than KFC, though not as good as Mrs. Knott's or Jollibee. Anyways. their chicken is cheap and good, but can contain alot of grease. So I was so excited to go to Donahoo's I heard great things about this place. As I took a few bites of my chicken I realize it was oozing out blood. I called them to tell them about my discovering to get some kind of reimbursement; the lady who picked up the phone gave me a answer like "so what, that's your problem" then she told me to bring the bloody chicken back in so they could replace that one piece of chicken when I order a 8 PC family dinner. Now this is not a 5 star restaurant by any stretch of the imagination and I'm sure the Heart Association would have an ischemic cardiomyopathy episode if they ever sampled the food...but is there better chicken in the I.E.? My coworkers and I were on break and we heard about how great this place is so we decided to go, before placing the order we asked how long. The lady said 20mins we left and came back in 20mins and the order was not ready. We waited another 20mins and asked what's the hold up? She said the guy called ahead of you and had a pre order. This is actually 3 1/2 stars but i rounded up. The Pinoy hospitality is always the best. I got to know all employees on my first visit. They chatted with me and got to know me. Very nice people and gives great service. The food: I ordered a side of gizzard. It was very crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. I prefer my gizzards extra crispy and I would like a little more seasoning on them. The rolls were very HUGE. I didn't expect it. They have a slightly sweet taste and soft on the inside. Taste good with I Can't Believe It's Butter (although a rock will taste good with ICBIB). They are good but not great compared to the more traditional Filipino roll or the Hawaiian sweet roll. The mojo's were again, very crispy on the outside, but still lacked the proper seasoning. The coleslaw was too sweet and a little watery. Now, the Chicken. It was very crispy. It was cooked all the way through. I got all possible parts of the kitchen (leg, thigh, breast and wing). All were very good, but again need just a little bit more seasoning. Maybe just add a pinch of salt (and that's what i did when i got home). It came out great after i added salt. I never got to try the food. I came here because the Pomona location has been a favorite of mine for years! The place is old and run down. We walked in and 2 not so desirable people were at the counter and had already ordered and received some food. They told us to go ahead, even though they were talking about something with the two Asian ladies who work there. The women were not happy about the ppl on the place and we're potentially arguing with each other in another language. I began to speak my order, when the 2 women started arguing again. I stopped. The shady ppl in the place started eating their food right there at the counter. The guy took out a thousand island dressing dipped his chicken, bit it and closed it. He handed it to the lady and wanted a new flavor. She TOOK it from him and was going to put it back. He ate out if it. The 2 workers still arguing told him to pay for another flavor.
