This is my favorite place to go when I'm looking for vegetarian food in San Jose. The staff is incredibly welcoming, and the food is consistently excellent. If you're vegetarian or vegan, this is truly a great spot. Just a heads-up: it's cash only, so be sure to come prepared. The atmosphere feels like dining in a family home--comfortable, warm, and inviting.

My First time here at this Dong Phuong Tofu vegetarian Food. Plenty of Delicious Options...Drooling every items looks absolutely delicious! I am totally enjoying my vegan Bun Rieu. Spicy and definitely full of flavors, just like my favorite non-vegan one that I've always ordered. They offers many more dishes that includes Hu Tieu, Pho, Banh Canh, Bun Bo Hue, Bun Mam, Vegan Seafood, Vegan Fish, Vegan Meat, Vegan Snacks and plenty of Desserts as well. I am definitely coming here at 2-3 times a week to try everything! lol March05, 2025

    curry vermicelli soup

Between 3-4 stars for me One point in favor is that portion sizes are HUGE and very affordable. I got a vermicelli curry soup that was huge and could feed me for 2-3 meals easily. I do think this curry noodle soup needed salt and chili oil - I asked if they had any chili oil or flakes or spice and they gave me a bowl filled with miscellaneous packets from other restaurants lol; there were soy sauce packets, mcdonald's ketchup packets, more ketchup LOL - I found one sriracha and used that. The soup itself was good though after that and was super generous w vegan meat. All soups 14 dollars Lunch combo is 13.50 and also a generous takeout box with 1 carb and 3 entrees. I didn't get this but I tried the pork belly which I didn't love but my partner liked it so overall good value ig. This place is cash only, ambiance is very fast food small shop vibe. Our group of 8 were the only people sitting in the shop. There were not that many tables probably max capacity of 16 people seated. Service was nice! They did give us free water bottles I think but we did have to ask, again fast food vibes . Idk if I'd go out of my way to come back here but I wouldn't mind!

A quick and convenient vegetarian spot for take out. I'm a huge tofu lover. Whenever my mom doesn't eat meat for certain days according to the lunar calendar, my dad buys us some tofu from Dong Phuong Tofu. I'm not vegetarian but I wouldn't mind not eating meat for a couple days if I wanted to. There are a lot of hot ready made vegan/vegetarian dishes for take out. I really like their spicy lemongrass tofu. I recently tried their egg stir fry noodles with tofu, woodear mushroom, cabbage, and sliced carrots. Great portions and so yummy! I even had the spicy lemongrass tofu to my noodles. Cash only! #supportsmallbusinesses

Cash only. Staff is very friendly. Food is so comforting & love the variety. Vegan/vegetarian friendly!

Dong Phuong Tofo was a diamond in the rough. This hidden gem is fully vegetarian with imitation meat. We had a great time with the owner and other customers in the area and personally loved the egg rolls. We also liked how quickly the food came out and it was definitely worth the price. Would definitely recommend visiting!! The only issue is that they are cash only so keep that in mind when visiting!

Such a cute little shop. The soy milk was so good, I got the unsweetened one- so I could add sugar to my liking. The dishes were also soo good, love the: spicy lemongrass tofu, "chicken", and do chua!

Yummy hole in the wall restaurant! The noodle soups and fried tofu were delicious and good value. Definitely will be back to try more dishes and for the fried tofu!!

Bought a few bags of the onion tofu here and I am not a fan. It's not bad but not excellent as well. It was pretty salty and very dense. It may be good to stew with pork or tomatoes but definitely not as good for noodle dishes like bún riêu.

Lemongrass tofu, green beans & noodles
    Samantha W.

Came here for the first time and tried the "combination" of ready made food in the display. You get a base of rice or noodles plus a choice of 2 other items. We got noodles, green beans-carrots, & lemongrass fried tofu. Everything was tasty. I loved that the green beans were blanched, so they still had their vibrant colour and great crunch. Not soggy at all. The lemongrass tofu had a yummy sauce and great flavour. The noodles were tasty as well - was a mix of noodles, cabbage, black fungus, carrots, greens. The amount given was huge and it came to $9. Enough for the both of us to share since we weren't super hungry. We really enjoyed everything we had and will definitely be back

I got takeout this particular day and the stirfry I wanted they didn't have any more of that style, but the lady said there was a similar one that was better for takeout. I forget which one she recommended but I ordered that one as well as the mango salad and the Vegetarian Pho. Once I got to my aunts house and set up our lunches, I found out that the Pho was cold. I'm not too sure if that was due to me getting takeout or if they had not heated anything up that day. They didn't tell me anything ahead of time so I think that's a little odd to me. You would serve someone cold soup, even though they want to takeout at least without telling them first. Hee Nevertheless, the mango salad, stirfry dish, and Pho all tasted delicious once everything was heated up to the right temperature! We loved our food and I am happy. I was informed that the patio is open and to order using a QR code at one of the tables in the patio. You have to sign in and create an account to order. It took me a minute to order. I wanted to try their specialty dishes especially because they have mushroom dishes and soy protein dishes. But by the time I was able to figure out how to order and sign up, I was pressed for time to order a meal and ended up ordering crispy spring rolls. Once your order is placed, you wait for a text to let you know your order is ready. Then I have to pick up at the window. Spring rolls were okay. I really wanted to try the crispy oyster mushrooms or the lion mane mushroom dish. Or even the Sea Fruits plate but I wasn't going to have enough time to enjoy them. The patio was fine. A few picnic tables. You bus your own table at the end. Everything they used was biodegradable. I wish it was a better experience. The food looked delicious in pictures, but eating in an outdoor patio, ordering from a QR code, and picking up your food from the window made for a sad and sub par experience.
