3.5 stars. Although the decor and ambiance, including soft music, make Rice Village Cafe a great place to dine in, it is clear that most of their business is takeout and delivery. It is a real plus that free parking is available in front of the restaurant in Rice Village. Brandon is an attentive, courteous and knowledgeable server. The food is excellent. The egg rolls are light, crispy and savory and served with fresh green leaf lettuce, cilantro and a delicious fish sauce. The pho is fragrant and comforting. The bun is tasty and plentiful. The main complaint is that prices are much higher than nearby restaurants such as Lien's Viet Kitchen, Vietopia, Lua Viet Kitchen, Kau Ba and Pho 5Plus. The pho is over $17, and the egg rolls, which are over $12 for five, are the tiniest egg rolls that I have ever seen. Rice Village is definitely a high restaurant district, but the restaurant would see more business with more reasonable menu prices. I'm not sure why this is called Rice Village Cafe on Yelp--the sign above the door the two times my boyfriend and I have visited says "Kim Son." The first time we came, we ordered takeout and it was extremely good. The eggrolls were delicious and so was the pho + broth. The second time we came, we dined in and ordered the same things. In person, the broth took a very long time to cool off. I have a love + hate relationship with it, because I do love how long the warmth of the broth lasts, but it also burned my tongue as I kept trying to eat it. Maybe as takeout, we used a different bowl, so it took quicker for it to cool off. However, in-person, I just kept feeling frustrated at how hot the broth was, and despite how hungry I was, I could not eat it without my tongue feeling like it was being boiled. Aside from the food, the service was amazing both times we visited. The man who was at the front treated us amazing and all the waiters/waitresses were very helpful and nice. Every time we pass by, there are never many people eating here, which is kind of weird considering how the food is not bad at all. The inside is also pretty clean and I love the bar area with decorations. We will definitely return when we crave some good Pho, but will probably get takeout. read more

Very good customer service. Michael is very polite and attentive to the customers' needs. He gave me a compliment dessert, Việt da ua (yogurt), the yogurt's flavor and texture is as closely authentic as it can get as compared to the traditional Việt da ua in Viet Nam and same goes for flan as well, not too sweet which is good, that's how Vietnamese flan's flavor should taste like. We come here to eat quite often. However, today I REALLY wish we hadn't. We absolutely love their Garlic Crabs today we got an order that we couldn't even eat because they were full of the disgusting fat. We told our waiter and he walked off. Another waiter came to our table and asked if we wanted a to go box and I told him of the situation he took one of the plates and told the manager. He returned to our table and said he couldn't take them off our ticket but gave us a 15% discount. Really?!?!?! For food we couldn't even eat? I ate at this restaurant around a year ago and came out disappointed, food was below average and service wasn't the best either. They've been under a new management for the past 3 months. I'm obsessed with Vietnamese food, specially Pho, Spring rolls and Bah Minh, so since 2017 I try to go to new pho places each time I can and give it a try, I have my favorite places of course and I come back to them often. Food here was ok, the Bahn Min is slightly toasted, and I loved that... is how I understand it needs to be, it lacked a little love (or probably experience?) in the preparation... butter was everywhere and not properly spread, also probably more pickled carrots/onion flavor, at least that's how it tastes in the place where I think they make the best I've had so far (Simply Pho). The Pho needs a little more life, more intensity in its flavour and colour, but it was decent, I always order beef broth with veggies and tofu wherever I go... this one didn't change my life, it has room for improvement, finally the thing that I disliked the most was the spring rolls, they definitely need more love and the peanut sauce, a more intense sweet touch, I ordered tofu ones, but idk they were plain and tasteless in comparison to the places where I like them the most. I really wanted to enjoy this place as I love all kinds of Asian food and could always use another place near by. Singapore noodles has always been a favorite of mine and Ive recently gone vegetarian and thought I'd try them. There was no flavor really and very little that was tossed in with the noodles -dry and boring. The tofu had no flavoring at all and it you eat tofu you know it needs to absorb the flavors of the dish. The edamame was steamed and very plain, but I added salt. The lemon grass shrimp was tasty but the shrimp was over cooked with the tails on and the sauce was so concentrated that you needed the rice as a side to cut the salt. The best we're the Vietnamese egg rolls. I'll probably give the place another chance and maybe this might be a different experience. read more

I ordered pick-up for this location and the food was ready exactly when the online estimate said it would be. I ordered a side of the Mekong soup aka Canh Chua or sour soup in Vietnamese. One of the few places I've seen this offered. It was what I expected, though missing elephant ear stalk aka bac ha like my family makes it. I enjoyed this dish though and it reminded me of home. I also ordered the Yu Choy in garlic sauce and it was a bit tough - I didn't feel like the greens were very fresh and was a bit disappointed in this dish. The last dish was the lemongrass tofu - way too sweet and salty at the same time and very heavy on the fish sauce. I get that it isn't the dried lemongrass tofu I'm used to and this one is more saucy, but the sauce was just off at this location. I've had it at the other Kim Son location via ubereats and it had a better flavor profile overall. This Kim Son location was a bit dissatisfying, especially cause I was so excited to have some authentic Vietnamese food so close to home. I can't eat spice very well and it makes my throat hurt but they still proceed to add chili in my sauce. I specifically asked them not to and call them to follow the note (I'm prone to pay extra so its not like im asking free stuff) but never got the order correct. II came in on a rainy day to get Pho, I don't usually think of Kim Son for pho or bahn mi. I ordered pho with beef, chicken and shrimp, which had a 2 dollar up charge, the shrimp? It turns out that there were only 2 shrimp included! When the soup arrived there was only 5 sprigs(?) of cilantro. I asked for more cilantro and I was brought 3 more sprigs. I of course asked for more! The server said that there was cilantro chopped up in the soup. When I got the bill I noticed that there was a dollar charge for the extra cilantro! I told the server that the up charge for cilantro was unheard of as most pho places always have a lot of cilantro with the sprouts and mint! The charge was taken of. I have loved Kim Son for their entrees for decades and have been eating pho for 25 years. I Will remember that this location is all about up charges and will NOT consider this place as a dining option. I can only imagine that the bahn mi is a let down as well. read more
