Don's Lighthouse is an odd bird. It is a mixture between a dive bar and a slightly upscale restaurant. The location is super convenient. It was always clean every time we stopped by. Staff was always super friendly. Parking is plentiful. I have only had their bar food like fries and a burger, which both were very good. I personally am not a huge fan of the décor. Somehow it feels slightly cold and impersonal. It either needs more "stuff" to make it more cozy or less "stuff" to make it feel more modern. I stopped in today for lunch as I enjoy local seafood places. The building is beautiful, in a nice area of town, very clean and you can see Lake Erie from the front door. Great start. I was seated in the bar area in a nice, quiet spot. My waitress was a wonderfully friendly girl named Chelsea. I ordered a Lobster Roll Sandwich and my friended ordered the "Don's Fish Fry". Chelsea even went out of her way to make me a custom side salad with just spinach. The food came out in 15 minutes and the Lobster Roll was amazing. My friend enjoyed his fried shrimp but his fried cod was oddly soggy and when he bit into it, water came out. For dessert I ordered the dark chocolate mousse and it was amazing. Wow, was it good. The bill was very reasonable at 50 dollars. I would certainly eat there again. read more

We had our first and last experience at dons's lighthouse. First, we discovered that nearly all customers only come for burger night or a few specials on other nights. Maybe because the other food is really bad like ours was. Green beans were old and stringy, potatoes were baked to a crisp, the house salad had lettuce, but little else that was advertised to be on it. The water glasses are so small that after only two sips they are empty. I needed 6 refills and wasn't even that thirsty. The happy hour gets you one entire dollar off of very overpriced drinks. The positives were....Clean cloth on the table and ample basket of bread. That's it. I've been to don's Pomeroy house in Streetsboro many times and found it superb in terms of food quality, service and not overpriced for what you get. Hard to believe these have the same owner, or do they ??? Anyone else out there find the same ?? Oh, and the men's room is a cramped freezer locker in the bowels of the basement. If you turn on the sink faucet don't be surprised to see ice cubes. Most old gas stations with a room around back are more comfortable than this. And most outrageous, the dessert menu had NO PRICES. When I asked why, I was told that the desert prices changed "too frequently". I don't Iike being called a sucker and taken advantage of. DO YOU ? I wanted to order desert, but was prohibited. I don't even know how to begin my review of this restaurant. I went to the Don's Lighthouse on Wednesday for happy hour with 6 of my friend's & then again on Friday. The service from one day to the next was completey different. I had the best time on Wednesday. The service was wonderful and our server was very attentive. My friend made homemade cupcakes and they put it away for us until we got done with our meal. We had a few cupcakes leftover and without asking us the server brought over little containers to take our cupcakes home. I was quite impressed with her. The food was really good. I had the spinach artichoke dip and pita chips and they was amazing. They give you a lot of food. Their happy hour prices are amazing. Saturday I went to Don's Lighthouse for a birthday party. There were probably 20 people there. After only being there for 1/2 hour my friend who threw the party was screamed at by an employee (Craig) that he can't have people standing by the table. Loudly, he said, that if he known about this party, he would have never approved it. It was uncalled for and slightly embarrassing. My friend spoke to the waitress that said to ignore what he said and that this place is also a bar and he and any of his guests can stand where ever they want for how ever long they want. The manager also spoke to my friend and apologized and said the same exact thing the waitress previously said. The food was good on both days but the service on the second day was slow and most likely was due to how many people were there. If it wasn't for what happened on Friday it would be a 5 star rating. read more

I love seafood restaurants that give me a nice choice of different seafoods. I haven't seen trout on a menu in years so it was a wonderful surprise to be able to order it. Great service. I only have 1 suggestion which is to update the lighting. We were in the dining room and the ambiance was missing that evening making it hard to appreciate the surroundings. I like the atmosphere here. It is casual and relaxed yet sophisticated and old school all at the same time. The service was very good - from the friendly valet at the door to the server I had. The server was really sweet and made the experience really enjoyable and made it feel like we were dining at Grandma's house. The entree I chose was the Faroe Island Salmon Spanish. The salmon was well cooked to my requested temperature, but I found the sweet potato that accompanied it under cooked and hard. read more

We have been going to Don's Lighthouse for 46 years. It has always been good. However, last night I ordered the Fish market salad and was very disappointed. The dressing was way too much and ruined the dish. I understand there are some new kitchen people. Please cut back the dressing and make the salad the way it was. read more

Food was pretty good, overpriced for what you get though. The two star rating is for the gnats that arrived with the meals. The server apologized, brought a "gnat catcher" and placed it behind the table. She was very pleasant, but did not move us to one of the other (many) available tables. Not sure that would have helped though, gnats we're not there before our dinner was served. Once served, we left the restaurant rather quickly to escape the pests. read more

Don's Lighthouse is a Cleveland staple located in the Edgewater neighborhood. The building is beautiful and right across from Lake Erie. They are known for there fresh fish and steaks. They have one of my all time favorite meals the Blackened Swordfish. It has a nice crisp on the outside and is tender on the inside. Restaurant and ambiance was nice. We had the crab cake and calamari for appetizers. The crab cake was good but the relish was a tad to sweet with the honey. Calamari was very good. My wife ordered the mahi mahi and risotto and she liked it. My steak Oscar was over cooked so it was dry and tough and didn't haven't much flavor. Love coming here for special occasions! Quality food and for it being a more upscale restaurant it is pretty reasonable. The Portuguese seafood stew is a must try. My husband got the filet and scampi and it was also amazing. Not super trendy or modern inside, more classic themed/borderline outdated feel, but I personally love that! Would recommend. The hostess was rude from the moment we walked in. We didn't have a reservation so she made you feel less than by saying "well then you will have to sit by the bar". The restaurant was cold and the booths by the window were very cold. The steak was tough and bland. Or much flavor at all. The steak and lobster was ok. The lobster was tiny not much meat on it. The steak was bland. For the prices they charge they could afford to serve better meat. The atmosphere quickly changed from classy casual to a party scene when two groups of barely dressed women appeared. They sat at opposite sides of the room but obviously knew each other as they were loud across the room talked to each other and going back and forth to each other's tables. Nice to be out in the world!! The Blueberry Mojito is a great cocktail to start off with. French Onion Soup is a Banger!! Might be 8n my Top 3. Really good salad and ready for the Main Course. Stopped in for Happy Hour last night and was impressed with the menu! Happy hour is a great deal on great food. Half price appetizers, $5 martinis and $1 off select beer and wine. I tried 5 different appetizers and enjoyed every one. Stuffed mushrooms, Don's sampler, escargot, mini burgers and mussels. The bowl of mussels was huge, way more than I was expecting for $5! I highly recommend happy hour at Don's Lighthouse. I want to come back and try the regular menu now. Service was prompt, our waitress could have been a little more friendly but I can't complain. Dearest Don, How do I break this to you gently.... I don't like you. I think if I was 34 years old in 1997 you would be the hot spot. But alas, I am 28 and it's 2018. Let me list the ways this won't ever work out. 1. You hoodwinked me with your happy hour offerings. The martinis ordered were so bad, none were finished and one was even sent back. 2. The food was... uninspired. Not even your basic dishes were that great. Nothing was poorly made mind you. Just so... lackluster. Warning: any future patrons, do not order the stuffed mushrooms. I also don't advise the bruschetta, crab cake, cocktail shrimp, or escargot. Or mini burgers. 3. Your spinach/artichoke dish was only cheese and spinach. WHYYYYYY. I want the good stuff. 4. Even the butter was tasteless. I am not even sure how that happens?? It even looked seasoned. 5. Your bathroom is in the basement. Have you ever even heard of the ADA?? Don's is kind of a big deal, and by the looks of the 50 yr old or older crowds it drives in, Don's has been a big deal for decades. Happy hour is legit. I always at least get a couple drinks and a shrimp cocktail plus the muscles if I'm feelin froggy. All the food here is good, but it is pricey...which I normally would put up with if the service wasnt hit or miss. All in all, you should go...but bring that American Express card and be prepared for 12 dollar 1 oz pours unless you're friends with the staff/mgmt. read more

Excellent food, excellent service. We had a very nice/quiet reserved section in the back. I chose the seafood chowder (recommended) and Erie Perch. Our group enjoyed the atmosphere and company. Cleveland restaurants have character; and Don's Lighthouse was no exception. The doorman greeted us and we were seated right away. In-&-out in 45 minutes. I want to give it one star but I will reserve that for if there is ever a second visit (doubtful). The atmosphere is decent. Won't complain about that. Service is slow but I won't even complain about that. The weight staff are clearly unhappy and just barely hanging in there. Can tell they hate their lives despite trying to be professional. The food, however, is gross. Good food that is destroyed by people with no business cooking it. Everything at the table of 4 was WAY overcooked and I think they are fired if they pick up any kind of spices in the kitchen. Went here for their participation in the Cleveland Independents price fixe menu for $33. Our server was very good and knew her information. I got the chowder soup, the crab cake entree and the chocolate mousse. The chowder was good. Just good. Not spectacular. The crab cake was a good size but it was very well done. Very brown on the bottom like it got away a bit from the chef. It had a fair amount of crab it wasn't bad, just over cooked. Now the chocolate mousse was a spectacular dessert. Honest it was worth the dinner. One of the best I've ever had. My partner had the bistro Salad which was larger than thought and she enjoyed it. She also had the steak oscar and enjoyed that as well it looked good! And the chocolate mousse, she was as impressed with it as I was. Overall we had a good time and it was a decent meal. What a lovely restaurant with a nice view. We came around lunch time when they opened. My mother chose this restaurant to come for her birthday and we were pretty pleased with our experience. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. The food was good and overall we had a nice time. Now to the food - we were served homemade baked bread with herbed whipped butter. Nothing as good as homemade bread. It was crusty on the outside and soft in the center. There was plenty left to take home. My sister and I both ordered the french onion soup. Soooo good and filling. The broth was flavorful with bits of onion and brown bread in each bite. The cheese was plentiful and melted just right. The soup was a meal in itself. I had to stop myself from eating the entire bowl to make room for my lunch. This soup is a winner. We all order the beer battered fried cod and shrimp dinner. I had fries and my mother and sister had fingerling potatoes. The coating didn't really have a beer batter flavor. I thought the coating was bland, but the fish and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The cod was meaty and the tiger shrimp were huge. The fries were crisp and cole slaw was freshly made. The fingerling potatoes were just okay. i didn't taste for myself, but that was my sister and mother's opinion. My mother and I also had a margarita on the rocks. To be honest, I didn't like my drink. I didn't see it prepared, but it tasted like it was perhaps made with club soda. It was slightly carbonated. It was not as tart and sweet as I like and just didn't have as much flavor as I expected. Not something I would order again. I also tried the diet root beer. I didn't get the brand name, but it was very good and refreshing. Overall, as mentioned we had a lovely time and I would certainly consider coming here again when visiting Cleveland. read more

Sure, the price point is a bit higher, but so are our expectations...and they are always met. Today, a great Martini, great bread, terrific salads with salmon (trying to be healthy). My boyfriend, his family and I went to Don's Lighthouse for a night on the town. When we walked in, we were amazed with the decor of the place. The clientele is definitely older, but I didn't feel that out of place coming in with the parentals. The best thing we ordered that night was the mussels. They were cooked in such a delightful sauce! I had to use the bread to sop up all that juice! I hear there is special pricing on Sundays, so I'll definitely be back for more. One thing that detracted from this restaurant though was the service! For such an expensive place, our waiter was not too nice! When we asked questions about the food, his responses were curt and he made us feel like we shouldn't be asking him anything! I felt nervous eating with him serving me because I felt judged the whole time. That's really not the way to feel when eating out! Better service next time, Don, and I'll be back for sure. read more

Oh Don, we need to talk about this Lighthouse restaurant of yours... Decor was fine, sat in a booth by the bar, so more of a chill-smoke a cigar-have a bourbon-bulky-dim atmosphere. The waitress was nice, although she could have come around more often towards the end of the meal. The food though, eh. A big EHHHHH. Pros: Fat Heads Bumbleberry Beer. Jumbo Lump Crab Cake - Very tasty, sad I had to share. Not fishy nor full of breading. Cons: Bread for the table - Not warm, hard crust, not my mouth's idea of a good time.
