This place was absolutely amazing! The experience I had here was beyond one of the best I have ever had at a restaurant. After talking to a couple of extremely nice young ladies and asking them what they liked there I ended up getting three Apps and the seafood combo, cup of seafood gumbo. Our first time here and we were very impressed. We were quoted 45 min wait but it was only 30 mins. The service was a bit slow but they were very busy so it was expected. The jacked up oysters were very good, they were large and fresh. If your in the mood for red beans they are only offered as a side dish but they do have it as a meal they are actually outstanding! This has to be a staple of Lafayette. I have been here several times with business trips. Even if it's been several weeks in between the bartender Kevin still calls me by my first name when he sees me. Who remembers names these days anymore? So on to the food. If you don't know come on Mondays and be ready to wait but it's worth it. Half priced oysters all night!! Raw, charbroiled, jacked up (bacon, jalapenos, and cheese) can't go wrong with your choice here. They also have an amazing old fashioned. Come with a rock candy sugar stir stick. Very classic drink. Other notables is 2 for 1 beers and I believe bloody Mary's and margaritas everyday. They have a food special nearly everyday. Well worth your time! read more

Showed up on a Thursday, traveling through to NoLA. Haven't visited Dons in many years, and haven't been to Lafayette in some time so I was craving some good Cajun! Are my expectations are too high for Cajun food? Service was 5 stars. Just a great friendly and helpful waitstaff. Service was fast and accurate. Decor is very nice, bar area was jam packed on my visit so took a table in a mostly empty dining room. My bigger issue was with the meal. People at a nearby table gave some some recommendations which included a gumbo and Boudin Balls. The dishes were OK, but not memorable. Not much flavor or the heat I was craving. A local resident recommended this beautiful restaurant especially their chargrilled oysters, something we have never had. Our visit was on a busy Sunday, it took us a few minutes to get two seats at the bar. We found ourselves right in front of the grill where they cook the oysters, the grill was well ventilated so there was no excess heat or smoke. Watching them be cooked was an experience in itself. They do offer a brunch but it was so close to being over we chose to just order our drinks, (my husband had a perfect old fashioned) and a half dozen Jacked Up grilled oysters which were topped with bacon, jalapeño and jack cheese. They were delicious. We struck up conversations with people around us as they came and went. Some were locals and some were people traveling like us. Next we split the grilled shrimp tacos. They were cooked well with just enough shrimp and fresh toppings. We were there literally two hours and in the end we ordered another half dozen of those oysters. Our joke was we started with an appetizer and ended with an appetizer. First time for everything. read more

Great food and good service. We sat in the bar section which was a little loud but that was to be expected. I tried the blueberry mule and it was delicious. Food wise I had the ravioli with crawfish cream sauce and it was very good. My husband had the shrimp platter and he loved it all. We also tried the boudin balls which were amazing! A friend and I stopped in here for a late lunch on a Friday. It was very busy, but they have so many tables, we were seated right away. Our server was very friendly and helpful. I asked her for a recommendation from the 3 options I had narrowed it down to and she chose the Camp Chicken Dinner that came with 2 Hushpuppies so that is what I ordered. I substituted the sides for the Macaroni and Cheese and the Sweet Potato Casserole. I was given 5 Chicken Tenders on my plates so it was a good portion size and was very filling. It was good, but the Camp Sauce is what took it to the next level. It's not quite as tasty as the Cane's Sauce, but it is more creamy and was still very good so I do recommend it. I was surprised the Hushpuppies were so good because I had eaten them with a different entrée at another Don's Seafood location and been super disappointed. The ones here did not disappoint. They were a nice enough size that they didn't dry out during the frying, they were light and fluffy instead of dense, and they had the right amount of sweetness that made me wish I had more than 2. The Macaroni and Cheese was rich and delicious as always. This was the first time I had ordered the Sweet Potato Casserole and I was disappointed. It was not what I would label a Casserole at all. It was more like overly mashed sweet potatoes to the point it was almost like baby food and it was just sprinkled with a touch of cinnamon. When I think of a good Sweet Potato Casserole, I picture a brown sugar, cinnamon and buttery pecan layer on top. I would order the Chicken and Mac 'n Cheese again, but not the Sweet Potato Casserole. read more

OH my goodness! Don's Lafayette is one of my fav "local hangouts and, it's been around fa eva! I cannot say enough good things about all the staff. Kevin & Tyler behind the bar - just wonderful. They make you feel like you walked into ya mom-en-dems place for a house party! They bring your usual drink to you as you sit down! Kid you not. (Even after only one previous visit!) First time trying this place a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty good. I wanted a STRONG drink and the waiter recommended an old fashioned but it seemed pretty weak to me. I did enjoy the sugar stick that came with it to make it sweeter. The crab fingers were finger licking good and I did not stop till I finished the entire plate. I also got crawfish bisque and I instantly regretted getting a small bowl as soon as I tried the stuffed crawfish head. Overall I think I would go back. Service was great. Gracie was timely and helpful with any questions from the menu. Super friendly, but not pushy. The fried shrimp are perfectly fried. My daughter loves the chicken and sausage gumbo. Decent burger too. Crabmeat au gratin is an all time favorite with the green beans and stuffed potato. They've expanded the lobby and front now has outdoor patio with couches to sit, drink, watch TV. The bar has booths and the main dining is spacious. Definitely recommend! read more

Worst place ever! Unless you are obsessed with fried seafood then go here otherwise find another place to go... let's start at check in. No temp checks they don't care about mask obviously, wait time for table was like 30 minutes and then lobby was packed for about 3 hours... they asked where they wanted us to sit party of 4 I asked for bar and got put into the "section" that's all I'll say about that.... the tables are not even 2 feet apart so you are sitting on top of the people behind and around you...waiting for the waiter took 20 min to get drinks.... took another 30-45 for appetizers and about an hour for our food. We were here for 3 hours! The best thing to get here is the fried alligator & spinach crab dip everything else we order was garbage. NO FLAVOR, no condiments, after we asked still no condiments. Order another round of appetizers because the food was taking FOR EVER! Let me not get started on the alcoholic drinks. They look like crap compared to everyone else's drinks & bartender has no knowledge how to mix a drink. Or maybe the Servers get behind the bar and make them. GROSS!!!! Full shots through each sip of my straw. Food Service horrible, food times horrible, management horrible. Best thing here is the aquarium and not the crab platter or the Cajun ravioli unless you want everything fried, no flavor no condiments and we asked for lemons lol didn't get those either. I do not recommend going here also our bill was $62 after I sent my food back and felt bad taking off $10 pitiful dollars. SMH what a waste of Time And money. Amazing food, (favorites; grilled oysters and gumbo) wines and service. Got seated pretty quickly, service was pretty good, despite how very busy they were. They were even able to accommodate us although we were there earlier than our reservation. They were out of some of the wines we wanted and the crab meat au gratin we had topped with shrimp was really good aside from the fact that it contained shells (I'm assuming,). They were crunchy, hard parts. The crab in the au gratin tasted so fresh. The twice baked potato was better than home made. The charbroiled oysters were pretty good. We will be back! read more

Then she brought me the sandwich very sloppy with few shreds lettuce few little slices catfish and couple little slices tomatie and big blob of mayonese on one of pieces of bread. After growing up in South Louisiana and moving away, the food is what I miss most. When I found myself in Lafayette to celebrate Christmas, I finally had a chance to eat at Don's. We had the quintessential Christmastime night in Lafayette. First, Acadian Village, and then Don's. There was a 5-10 min wait for a table. We ordered drinks and I took a chance on a margarita. The menu is a seafood lover's dream and has a lot of great Louisiana dishes. I was hard pressed to not over order and try a little bit of everything! My margarita was surprisingly tasty! And little did I know, they were 2 for 1 and best of all, only $7! We ordered jacked up oysters and blackened alligator for appetizers. The oysters were tasty, but I'm not sure I'd need to order them again. The alligator was nice and tender and not at all chewy. My husband and I shared the Cajun ravioli. They were so rich and had a good flavor. Unlike us, we ordered dessert because I saw that turtle cheesecake and it was a must have. If you haven't already seen a picture of it, that cheesecake was absolute worth every calorie. It was incredible and my mouth waters when I see the picture. My husband and I liked Don's so much that we were even planning to return the next night (Christmas eve) and we did, but the wait was 90 minutes and they were crawling with people, so we went to another place for dinner. I'll be back to Don's the next time I'm in Lafayette...there are at least 12 more things on the menu that I need to try. read more

Always good food but disappointed in their attention to safety and being safe from COVID19. I ate at the bar and the lead Bartender never wore a mask and delivered my gumbo with his thumbprint on my spoon speaking all above my gumbo. Don's needs to train its employees on how the virus spreads. No consideration for my safety. He had a very cavalier cocky attitude with a "I'm too cool" to wear a mask perspective. The bar where I sat was dirty and they cleaned it with a wet used rag with no disinfectant. The Gumbo and food was good as usual. Whenever I'm in town I always stop here. Came to this restaurant for dinner on a Sunday night with my family. I put name on the waiting list, and the hostess told that the wait was about 25 minutes. I was notified my table was ready 10 minutes before. Our waitress was Katie. She provided great customer service. The food was fresh, and tasteful. Overall, our experience was amazing!!!
