This was one of the most degrading experiences I've ever had at any restaurant -- anywhere. At Dos Toros in Brookfield Place, a male employee decided to publicly humiliate me for not ordering the way he liked. He wasn't confused. He wasn't busy. He was just being an arrogant jerk, making a spectacle out of embarrassing a customer. It was mean, deliberate, and flat-out abusive. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of behavior. It shows a complete lack of professionalism, training, and basic human decency. The fact that this kind of person is allowed to represent the brand is pathetic. I always get it with farro, which is very crispy when I bite it. The tomato is diced into small little cubes and look mushy. I chose the smoky sauce and kind of regret it because it makes the whole bowl like a bbq, which is not what I'm looking for when eating Mexican food. The cheese is very thick and mozzarella type. Melts into the bowl perfectly. The guacamole is seasoned pretty well and not salty. I love how they decorated the bowl with tortilla chips, making it extra crunchy. Overall a pretty good fresh bowl for lunch. Wish they give more though because this time they didn't really give a lot in each portion. read more

A few Saturdays ago, I ordered lunch from here. It was close to 1 pm. Understandably, chicken was not available but about to come out of the kitchen. I decided to walk away and came back 10 minutes later. I ordered my usual, a bowl. I watched as tiny scoops of white rice, black beans, peppers (scooped along with juice), corn, pork carnitas (which just came out too), mild salsa, romaine and cheese was added to my bowl. Each free fix-in was given sparingly and the juice from the peppers negatively affected flavor of each bite. Also since I received first serving from fresh batch of pork, my scoop contained top layer of fat and overcooked bark. I chewed the bark and spit it out. It was the worst bowl I've eaten from DOS Toros, which cost $13-14. I put aside the pork I spit out and the fat cuz I wanted to show the staff, but didn't show them. Are staff to blame? read more

I ordered a chicken burrito and it was amazing, tortilla was warm and the cheese was very well melted, beans were delicious, rice was excellent. My chicken was very well seasoned. I used to go there a lot, however lately, I haven't been too crazy about the freshness of the food. Also, I think they are overrated. I recently bought a chicken quesadilla and the amount of chicken the lady put on the flour tortilla was ridiculously small. I asked her kindly if she could put a little bit more which she did, but not without giving me a nasty attitude. Then I was charged $2.75 cents for a couple of extra pieces of chicken. The burritos at Dos Toros make for a filling lunch from the Brookfield Place food court. Note that you don't get any chips with the burritos however. The employees are speedy and keep the lines moving, perhaps not the bubbliest bunch but that's okay. I've been sticking with the pork carnitas burrito ($11.49) though I need to branch out and try the carne asada. It's great how basically all the toppings (such as several kinds of cheese) are included in the price, guacamole excluded of course. Wish there were raw onions but the pickled ones are fun. Using the app for a first-time $6 credit reward, the steak burrito bowl that I ordered with nearly all the free toppings was only $8 which is a deal for meals in this area. I did pay $1 for the creamy mole sauce on the side out of curiosity but save the dollar cause I still don't know what it is except that it's bad, quite liquidy compared to the name, and a bit sour like ketchup. The steak was quite chewy. I would just stick with chicken. I also chose farro which tasted fine, had more texture than rice, and presume to be healthier. I arrived on time as the expected completed time stated on the app but I guess I came a few minutes too early since my order was not done yet. UPDATE: CUSTOMERS KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON WHAT YOU ARE BEING CHARGED. Today was the second time something shady happened when purchasing lunch at Dos Toros. I let it slide the first time, but I feel like it's time customers know. Last time I visited, I was charged for guacamole on my tacos by the SAME PERSON who made my tacos...meaning they knew exactly what they put on. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until after my card was charged. Luckily, I asked for my receipt and when I noticed, I went back to the kiosk to ask for a refund. They did NOT apologize and instead just handed a new receipt. No eye contact. Nothing. Today, I ordered a chicken and steak taco (same combination as last time), again without guac. When the woman rung me up, she said it would be $11.97. I knew the correct amount was $10.88. When I told her the price was off, she just shrugged and said "tax?" I asked her if she was charging for guac, and she said no. She called over a manager who, again made NO eye contact the entire time, and just said $10.88, and pointed to the card machine. So I thought she was charging me the right amount. I asked her for a receipt (knowing what happened last time) and she said she couldn't give one, and to come back later. I got home and now see a pending charge for $11.97 on my credit card--which is the WRONG amount that I never approved. I know this is literally the question of a dollar, but it is the principle. This used to be one of my usual go to locations for lunch during the work week. Now that things are getting back to normal it was nice to be back. This location is on the second floor of Brookfield Place. There are several restaurants here so expect long lines and lots of people especially during the lunch hour. Dos Toros is similar to any other burrito establishment like Chipotle or Moe's. The staff here is very efficient at the assembly process. You pick what item you want, the meats, the toppings, and any sauces. Then you pay at the end. It is best to know what you want to eat ahead of time so you are not slowing down the line choosing your options. Everything here happens very quickly and set to order. My usual go to order is the quesadilla which comes out as a crispy burrito. It is very large and kept me filled for most of the day. The food portions and flavors are much better than the competition. I love ordering the food and then grabbing a table out by the waterfront to relax. I would much rather come here instead of Chipotle or Moe's. As with any place else guacamole is extra and best if ordered on the side. read more

I've wanted to try this place for quite some time but the line is usually LONG(!). Like, really really long. Today I had some extra time so I was determined to give it a shot. I got there and voila, No one in line! I've literally never seen it. It's like any other assembly line burrito joint (Moe's, Chipotle, etc). I've never been here so I wasn't sure what to get (remember the LONG line I had anticipated? I was going to study my options there). I hurriedly asked for the quesadilla, which is more like a crispy burrito, and was rushed through the assembly process. It was whirlwind fast but I assume it is because when the place is super busy they have to be mad fast. The quesadilla/burrito was awesome! I did compare this place to Moes and Chipotle but only in process. The pico, quac, chicken, everything, was so much better than I've had at those places! There had to be at least a dozen folks on the assembly line and the were incredibly efficient. Henry Ford would be proud of this place! read more

Once we arrived it was so busy and I was sure it was going to take a while before we got our food. I was shocked to see how quick the line moved and how fast paced they worked. I got a chicken bowl with chipotle dressing which is now one of my favorites! I like how you can tailor your bowl to your own liking. Honestly there's nothing negative to say about this place. I'm glad we chose to go here because the staff was friendly and patient. You can tell they worked as a team. Their workspace was clean and the ambience was beautiful. They had a lot of healthy food choices as well. I had a steak bowl, it was delicious and fresh. The portion size was great as well. Dos Toros are kind of tough to find in NYC. There is one opening uptown soon, close to where I live. But for now, this was the first one I've ever been to. Their burritos are made with the cheese ON the tortilla (you can add more too). You can get carnitas, carne asada, chicken or rice and beans (veggie). You can get any add-ONs that are complimentary but guac is extra (only like $2.00). They just added an Impossible (plant based) ground beef on their menu. Husbo tried that one; and let me have some as well. You'd never know it wasn't ground beef. This stand is cash-free in Brookfield. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. My second day in the city proper, and I had the good fortune to stumble on this place. 5 years I've lived in this state and never found decent Mexican food. I suppose it's no surprise that I'd find it in the Big Apple. :) The food was phenomenal, and the slim menu deceptive. There are dozens of possibilities once you start assembling your meal. I got myself a chicken burrito, which really doesn't do this masterpiece justice. Corn, guacomole, pinto beans, Pico de gallo, rice, and a delightfully peppy hot sauce really made this meal a win. One warning. When they say the spicy sauce is hot, they mean it. It just cozies up to being too hot to taste the food without crossing the line. Perfect for those of us who love heat. The quantity was equal to or just a bit less than Chipotle's quantity. The chicken was very well cooked, soft, tasty, and had a even texture. The vegetables blended well with the sauces. Speedy service, great value, and a solid meal! What more can you ask for from a spot inside the busy Brookfield Place food court? Even with a "medium" sized line, the traffic splits as multiple employees build your meal. It is cashless so transactions are just naturally faster with card, too. I got the carnitas burrito and it was a pretty good bang for your buck, and I liked the carnitas themselves (on top of the smoky sauce). I love Dos Toros and have been a regular customer for years so was excited when they opened in Brookfield Place. Unfortunately for about the last year this location is garbage. The last five visits there was no guacamole, no black beans, no pico (twice) no farrow, crunchy died out farro, no to go containers for salsas and all five times no chips. Each visit was at 7 pm which is about and hour before closing I guess they are in a hurry to go home? Without further ado, the perfect Dos Toros order (and why): You can choose a burrito or a bowl. The burrito is better, but if you aren't that hungry (aka it's lunch, not dinner) go with the bowl. -Best base: rice (farro is healthier, but not nearly as tasty). -Best beans: black. -Vegetables and corn: optional, but good. -Best meat: steak (by far) - ordering chicken is a rookie mistake. I get a double steak. -Best hot sauce: medium or mild (the hot is so spicy, it's called the Devil's tears - only order if you're sure you want this). -Guacamole - must order. Preferably as a side because they are a little stingy. Everything else is optional, I don't eat dairy but I'm sure the cheese and sour cream is amazing. I usually get lettuce. The chips are good too.
