Dosalas is nestled within a row of upscale dining destinations that sit alongside an incredible waterfront area complete with a paved walkway. In addition to gorgeous water views, there are photo-worthy spots at every turn, including an oversized angel wing sculpture installed on the wall upstairs, a beautiful arched bar area, neon signage in the bathroom and more. The restaurant has an upscale vibe and patrons definitely dress to impress. The cocktail list is incredible - from tequila-based drinks that come in a smoke-filled box to champagne flutes mixed table-side that result in a libation that literally sparkles thanks to edible glitter, you'll want to try them all. Our favorites were the Purple Rain and Coco Chanel cocktails. We also opted for a variety of appetizers and were "oohing" and "awing" at all of the delicious flavors. Do yourself a favor and try them all...we went with rib meat empanadas, baked provolone, Mexican street corn and Brazilian cheese bread. We'll be back to eat and drink our way through the rest of the menu soon enough. Pro tips: Definitely make a reservation and if you're driving back to Portland later at night, check on roadwork. First, let me say that we had a great experience. The food was very good, the decor (although not my vibe) is extravagant and certainly has an appeal. The cocktails also great. I would describe this as the Latin version of Departure, with small but thoughtful portions, elevated drinks, and an "experience". Try the street corn! I've read many of the 1-3 star reviews here, and let me tell you, IGNORE THEM ALL. Aside from these reviewers being the kind of people who rate almost everything negatively, most all of the negative feedback centers on the "way too high" price. These very same folks must also consider the other three waterfront restaurants (Barlow, Wild Fin, or Twigs) as overpriced too, because they are in the same range. The difference is, those three are carbon copies of each other with good but indistinguishable dishes you can get almost anywhere in town. Dosalas does what those don't, separate themselves as the destination for Latin cuisine AND a dining experience. You pay more for that because you can't get that elsewhere in Vancouver. The truth is, the market decides what food and experience is "worth and so far, Dosalas is off to a rockin' start, everyone i know LOVES that place. We celebrated my mother in laws 80 birthday weekend with a final brunch at Dosalas on October 17. We had a party of 12. The restaurant is beautiful our server Angalic was top notch, food has good flavor. That's where it ends for the positives. The restaurant was 20% full. They had three or four bartenders on staff. Drinks were delivered after the food was delivered and in some cases barely before we asked for the bill. Food - although good was overpriced, drinks, way overpriced. There was 30-40 minutes in between when the first person in our party received there food to the last. When we received the bill nothing was comped. Our server was amazing, but if the bar and the back of the house don't get their act together this place will fail. Over priced and crappy execution from the back. I've been here twice. I was trying to decide if I should give 2 or 3 stars, decided on 3 because of the atmosphere and location on the river. Also, it's a newer business and I really hope they succeed. The outdoor dining was very nice. It is a bit overpriced for the flavor quality and serving sizes. I ordered the PERUVIAN QUINOA dish, and it was missing the almonds, and had no flavor, in fact a slight soapy taste is the only way I can describe it. I also got the TEMPURA CAULIFLOWER, which was also lacking in flavor and about half the pieces were slightly overcooked. My husband got the TUNA TOSTADAS, and the fish tacos, and he really liked both. The cheese bread is excellent, but kind of expensive for only 3 small pieces. The Portland/Vancouver lacks restaurants with the ambiance this restaurant has. If you're coming here you are coming/paying for the experience. You can tell everything here was made to not only to impress you, but to share on social media, down to their cocktail ice cubes. Other than the view and the delicately placed details, their food is amazing. By far the best octopus I've ever had. Even my fiancé who dislikes seafood loved every dish that had seafood in it. Know that most dishes are meant to be shared. We enjoyed the Tom A Hawk Steak and had to take home more than half but we would get it again in a heart beat. My friends from California came to visit me in Portland and one of them were celebrating her birthday so I recommend to have a celebration dinner at Dosalas because I'm a regular at the restaurant and I always bring family and friends whenever we want a fancy dinner/night out or to celebrate a special occasion at Vancouver Waterfront cause the place is beautiful. I take pride on bringing the best experience to my out of town family and friends whenever they visit me so I bring them to Dosalas and they are always impressed by the exceptional service, ambiance, drink selection and scrumptious food at this restaurant. Dosalas is an absolute fun dining experience, from the moment you step inside the front door you are welcomed by a friendly host, on the left side of the entrance is the elevator and on the right side was a cute corner with two swings and a sofa that's great for photo op or what my friends call Instagramable if that's a word, next to that area was the grand staircase with beautiful chandeliers hanging on the high ceiling of that staircase leading to the dining area. The restaurant decor are meticulously made to be beautiful in every corner it was a treat for the eyes and you can't resist taking pictures or asking one of the staff to take yours and they will happily take your picture. The dining area have a wrapped around window that showcase epic view of the Columbia River and if you're lucky to be there at sunset the view is breathtaking and romantic if you are seated at the balcony with it's firepit inside a glass table centerpiece that will keep you warm when the sun sets. The service is impeccable, they will also remember you if you've been there multiple times cause I was greeted by David the GM of the restaurant at our table with "Welcome back, we're happy to see you again." and I always felt like a VIP. We mentioned to our server that we are celebrating our friend's birthday and at the end of our dinner the birthday celebrant was surprised by celebratory icecream with sparklers, it was absolutely wonderful of them and a nice touch to make my friend's birthday extra special. Thank you Dosalas for the wonderful evening, we had an amazing experience. My friends are so impressed and they said that next time they visit me they want to go back to Dosalas. I like the food very much, but I like spice. My husband did not have a lot of choices since he is sensitive to spice. I thought the food was delicious and the server was very friendly. The mango margarita was absolutely delicious and fresh. They have a wonderful business model with great food, great location and a great view. I have rid of the reviews that say the service is slow. It's such a shame, because if they got their act together on the service side, they would have a five star review. Here's the problem, there was virtually no one in the restaurant, when we arrived at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on a Tuesday. The service was incredibly slow. We went last night to celebrate our anniversary. The service was good but the music was loud techno garbage that definitely let us know that we were not their desired customers. The guacamole was good. The crab toast tasted off and I should not have eaten it. The paella was good. However, we spent $160 on dinner and it wasn't worth it, especially considering what happened later. We went home and watched a basketball game on TV. I started feeling nauseous so I took some Zofran. I was too late. I started having violent diarrhea and vomiting at the same time, luckily I was holding a bowl. I was miserable for hours. I came to your restaurant for a special night out on 2/10/24. My friend made a 6:30 pm reservation for 3. I arrived a few minutes early and was waiting to be seated. After a while I was seated outside. It was a very cold night, and I remember thinking how glad I was that the heaters were on because it was still uncomfortably cold. The views though, were amazing. For the 10-15 mins I was waiting for my friends, I was given water and not checked back on to order any other drink. The heaters were also turned off, and what appeared to be a manager, awkwardly went from table to table lowering the sun shades. This seemed to be an attempt to keep the cold out, but all that it blocked was the only good thing about being out there, the view. When my friends arrived Roger came and took our drink orders. I ordered an iced tea and they ordered mixed drinks. A while later their drinks came out, but not mine. Time kept passing and Roger had not been back to check on us or take our order. When he finally did, he apologized and said he forgot my iced tea. I was understanding and know that things happen. He came back with it and took our orders. My friends ordered starters and a main entree that they expressed the two of them were doing family style. I was on a very specific diet and could not have what they were having. So I ordered the agave dressing salad with salmon, no mango, and the dressing on the side. I then asked Roger if he could bring sweetener and ask for the heaters to be turned back on. He awkwardly smiled and said that he would see what they could do to warm it up more in there. It almost came across as a money saving tactic, to turn them off and that they were not allowed to come back on. Several of the center bar fireplaces, to the side of us had been turned off too. We could hear others complaining about how cold it was. About 15-20 mins after ordering, my friends had their starters come out (not by Roger), and they felt bad because they had asked everything to come out at the same time, knowing I couldn't eat what they had. I also was frustrated because Roger never came back to bring me the sweetener I asked for, so I couldn't drink my iced tea, and was still freezing, with no answer to it being able to be fixed. I still patiently waited and tried to enjoy the experience and time with my friends. By this time someone came back and took orders for second drinks. I asked him if he could please bring me sweetener and thankfully he did. About 30 mins pass and then my friends main entree comes out, but still nothing for me. I kept thinking they'll be right out after, with it. Kept waiting and waiting and still nobody comes back out with it, my friends are agitated, because they are almost done with their whole meal and still no sign of Roger or someone bringing me my food. I look over and see behind the tinted glass, that Roger is leaning up against the computer desk just chumming it up with his co-workers. It was not until about 20 mins later that he comes over and asks how everything is. My friend cut him off and said that my food has not come. He talks over her and says he was just getting ready to go check on it. He leaves and then comes back about 10-15 mins later to say they were waiting on one ingredient and that's why it has taken so long (insert eye roll here). Another 15 mins go by and he comes out with my Salad to say that they made a mistake and tossed it with the dressing. Letting me know that if I take it as is, that it will be complimentary. I am speechless at this point and starving. He bumbles over his words and says well it will be complimentary no matter what, but will you eat it like this? Again trying to remain calm, I explain to him that I am on a special diet where I can't have sugar and if he can check with the chef to tell me what is in the dressing. As he comes back about 10 mins later, he stops in the doorway, holding my salad, and is laughing and chumming it up with a co-worker again, for a good 6 mins. He then brings the salad and says it has agave and no sugar. I'm still not supposed to have that in large quantities, but at this point, it's after 8 pm, I'm starved and cold, and just want to get out of there. I will not return or recommend it to anyone. It's supposed to be a high end experience, and didn't even meet the standard of a dump. It really ruined our night and was SO disappointing with how Roger handled it, from start to finish. If he would have owned up to his mistakes and been more forthright, it could have changed a lot. The way he 'apologized' gave us the ick and was uncomfortable. I also sent all of the above to the restaurant weeks prior to leaving this review and it has been crickets with no response. The outfit the hostess was wearing was very inappropriate for a family venue. 3. The portions were tiny to say the least. Tasty, but tiny. We had all items to share and only got one or two bites each. We left with happy palates but empty stomachs. 4. Drinks were good but even more overpriced than in much better places.
