We ate on a weekend night on a holiday weekend. I would have expected the place to be packed. It was not. I was surprised. I guess everyone knew to eat someplace else. The service was impeccable. The prices are steep. I was looking forward to eating some great Italian food. Some of the food did not meet my standards. I had a pasta dish with a beef ragu. Way too salty. Another diner had pasta as well with the bolognese. She was equally unimpressed and thought it lacked flavor. She was looking for more flavor. No bread to go with our meal. ?? Wonder what that is about. The pizza was VERY good. Authentic thin crust with real Italian pomodoro sauce. I've been to Italy over 5 times and was never given scissors to cut a pizza. We get pizza and such from Double Zero a few times a month. When we saw the New Years special, we were excited until we picked it up. Pizza party that serves 4+... but the salad that was included is barely enough for 2. Maybe a half of a Romaine heart worth of Caesar salad. Then I called the restaurant and they said that although the pizza party serving is for 4+, the salad is only a serving for 2 people. What a joke. If you advertise a party pack and say it serves 4+ people, make the pack serve 4+ people. I've been happy with their to go service up to this point, but feel like the execution was really sloppy this time. I also ordered a side dish. Considering that he party packs are something that will be re heated and served later, I also asked if there were reheat instructions... which the staff said were in the bag. Well? Nope. No such thing. I guess the front of house staff completely made that up? A few requests here: if you do a party pack again, make the whole pack for the minimum party size you advertise at least, instead of some of the pack for less than the advertised size and some of it for more. Went for the first time during a beer (EvenTide) and food pairing. I remember place when it was Ink & Elm and loved their food. I know the real estate prices are high here so there is a need to have better quality food but at higher prices. Decor and comfort level was fine in the dining room - nothing wow but ok in general. Night started a little rocky as the service was just off, not in sync, and honestly strange. Thank goodness the chef came out as the courses were served and explained a bit of the food and things got more comfortable (or we just started drinking more - lol). The food was really good and loved all four courses including the dessert. The most creative and delicious dish was the Hen of the Woods tempura with mustard greens - it was a vegetarian dish that had fantastic flavors - you'd almost think you were eating chicken and the way the greens were cooked with the guindilla peppers gave it a completely different taste. I would absolutely order that dish again and it should be a staple on the menu. It was really nice to have the new GM stop by and chat with us as well. I hope this place can make it in this location given the cost. Looking forward to coming back and trying out the bar area next time. read more

I placed a takeout order on 12/21, I ordered the beef pappardelle and a garlic knot which with tax and tip came to $44. The pasta was very under seasoned and not salted at all and the garlic knot was heavily salted. However, it had one redeeming quality and that was it was very garlicky which is what I was hoping for. On another note, the hostess was a little impatient with me when I came in and was a little dismissive before I let her know I was there for a pick up order. She was shaking her head no as I walked in and making eye contact without me and no one else was there with her. Not sure what to make of that, but it was definitely bizarre to say the least. We came here Friday evening I hadnt been here for several years And the menu had changed We had cauliflower with green sauce ( not as described in menu) --it was fried so much that it was brown. we had the warm mushroom salad which is very hearty as a main meal, the dressing is very rich. Our second visit to this restaurant. The first time was a year ago. All of our pastas were undercooked- not even al dente, so we wanted to give it another try. I would give the service and concept execution a 4. Pleasant people and convivial ambiance for the Emory or Druid Hills crowd. The food, however, is a 3 still. Calamari in the frito misto was overcooked as it is in many restaurants. The funghi tortelloni looked like meatballs covered in dough, some of which was again not fully cooked. And the sauce was reminiscent of 1970s beef stroganoff with a sour cream flavor. Not terrible, but not worth another visit. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I live in the neighborhood and wanted to have a local haunt when I didn't feel like cooking. I have eaten in, gone to the wine tastings, and gotten take out. I'm done. The food is overpriced. There is almost nothing on the pizzas. The salads are mostly lettuce with very little else despite the descriptions. It's a great space. So much love for Double Zero located in Emory Village! I have dined here twice and can't wait to come back here for a third time! The first time I dined here I ordered a glass of Cabernet wine, the infamous Garlic Knot, and the chicken parmigiana. Y'all, I was blown away by so many things: the portion sizes, the quality of ingredients, and the fabulous service! I typically am not one to order bread-based appetizers when I order pasta, because I don't want to get that "too full feeling" before I have my main dish, but the garlic knot is infamous for a reason. It is a must order! It is huge and covered in two different types of cheeses and garlic butter. The chicken that comes with the chicken parm takes up the entire plate and the pasta is fresh and made in house. I wanted to try one of their desserts, but I was just too full after eating just half of the garlic knot and half of my pasta! I have also taken one of their pizza making classes. It was so fun and informative learning about Neapolitan style pizza and actually making my own to eat. I would highly recommend this experience as a great date night or girl's night out idea. I've driven by Double Zero a ton of times, and so happy I decided to stop by. Visited on a Friday, and was very happy with the COVID protocols put into place. The tables were spread apart and employees wore masks. It was our first time there, so we asked the server for some guidance. He suggested the cauliflower appetizer, which I'm so happy he did! As someone who doesn't regularly eat veggies, I was so surprised how tasty it was! I would highly suggest ordering the garlic knot, Caesar salad, cauliflower app, and the chicken piccata. The chicken was very thick and reminded me of a southern fried chicken. It was fantastic. We will definitely be back to try the chicken parm! read more

Exceeded expectations! We were on a quest to find some Italian food and randomly came across this in Apple Maps. Come to find out we were only 5 minutes away. I've heard of them before but for some reason I thought it was just a pizza place. Anyways, we get there at 8:15 on Friday and without a reservation we were able to get a table in 20 minutes. It was cold outside but luckily there is a cookie store next door so we grabbed dessert first and that was a great way to waste time. Also, it's worth noting that they close at 9pm on weekends. The restaurant is gorgeous! Our waiter so very friendly and accommodating and really helped give us a great experience. The menu has something for everyone and once I noticed this place is owned by the same group that owns Cook & Soldiers and Iberian Pig, I knew we'd have a great meal. We started with the garlic knots. Yes, you must get this! It's fried and super crispy but the inside is soft and the garlic butter is amazing. Delicate, flavorful but not too overwhelming. Perfectly balanced, chef's kiss! I got the Chicken Diablo pasta and it was as equally good. Spicy but not overwhelming, nice acidity from the olives, the sauce was everything! Portions are good, I actually took home the little bit that I had left and I *never* take home anything. I can't wait to come back and try some more food. read more

If this is what college fare is now... not only am I very old, but perhaps I'll have to get my long overdue MBA. Went with a partner and got Meatballs, Garlic Knot, and two plates of pasta. Of note, the Garlic Knot is gigantic... but there's only one per order. We had to get a knife and cut it apart. With that being said, it was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and 100% worth it. Super garlicky and decadent. The meatballs are small, but you'll get 4 per order and they're excellent. My partner got the Bolognese which was pretty good. I got the Orecchiette e Salsiccia, which is basically pasta with sausage and broccoli in a bright, wine based sauce. We also finished it off with a Butterscotch Budino, which is basically the fanciest pudding you've ever had with some crushed cookie on top of it. About the only thing I'll note is that it isn't cheap... although we did get a lot (She also got a glass of wine). But if you're aware of that, I'd 100% recommend going. We decided to go to double zero for my birthday and I'm not gonna lie it was pretty rough. Our $18 appetizer of calamari was mostly fried crumbs and fennel with a few pieces of seafood if you really look. The highlight of the evening was being served bad mussels and ending up with terrible food poisoning because apparently they had been delivered several days before. There was no mention of my birthday even though I'm a former employee of a castalucci restaurant and they almost always give you something for celebrations. Definitely not going there again. Great birthday dinner with wife and 4 friends. After being shutdown for so long and learning to love my cooking I've become very critical about restaurants. This was so much better than anything I can do. The shrimp bucatini was the best pasta I've had ever. Everyone loved their dish. We were celebrating 3 birthdays and they gave us 3 excellent desserts. We didn't get the pizza, but were enthralled watching the pizza lady tossing dough and cooking the pizza. Will definitely get a pie soon. Each month, I select a new restaurant via a date night concierge service and Double Zero was this month's choice. We walked in, were greeted by name, and were whisked to our table immediately. Mya, our server, was very good - attentive, yet knew how to give us our space. There was a snafu with our wait time on our dinner entrees and she really went above and beyond to help make it right. Shout out to the 2 managers who stopped by the table to apologize and invited us back. It really put our date night back on track. Food - The hot focaccia with olive oil was a good start to a great meal. The chicken meatball appetizer was amazing. I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. So much so, that I told a few people about it. It was served with a spicy puttanesca and cheesy polenta. I wanted to scrape the serving dish but that would have been embarrassing. For dinner, I had the oricchiette pasta with sausage, which was wonderful and full of flavor. Mya made sure we had the perfect wines with each course and hazelnut tart with a glass of port was a great finish to the meal. I am not big on desserts and I ate most of it. I'd highly recommend checking out this place in the midst of all this COVID craziness, for takeout or delivery. I got a super sweet email from them detailing the extra safety precautions they are taking to ensure sanitation. I ordered a sausage pizza from them and they had toilet paper you could order for $1 a roll, which made me die laughing! Obviously I ordered one! They sent me a super sweet card with a coupon for a free small plate once all this is settled. And the pizza was incredible! I reheated it for about 10 min at 400 and it got super crispy and amazing! A large group went for a special dinner for a couple of friends celebrating. The restaurant itself is really nice. A good spot for large dinners or a romantic date. The wait staff is super attentive. They have a full bar and a decent wine selection. I had the Diavola pizza and it was larger than expected. Could definitely be shared. I would definitely order it again as it was delicious. It comes with a pair of scissors to cut it yourself. I've never had that before. My friend ordered the lasagna and it was also a shareable portion. He said it was good, a little too much cheese for his liking though. Two other friends ordered the short rib ragu, one with gluten-free pasta. They both recommended it. First time here and I have to say the service was good and the decor was nice. Had the Tagliatelle Bolognese, OG Pizza, Gelato, Peach Tart, and some cocktails. The Tagliatelle Bolognese was absolutely amazing! The cocktails were well-balanced and delicious, and the gelato and Peach Tart were hits as well. The OG pizza had good toppings, but the crust was too soggy. I was told that this was a minor oven issue that could be corrected so I will have to give their pizza another shot next time. The atmosphere is stunning. Don't be afraid to ask the bartenders for recommendations, they are very helpful. The drinks all looked amazing and I ended up having two cocktails and a glass of wine because i couldn't decide. The food was special. I knew I had to get dessert because everything else is was so delicious. We had a great time and it was worth the price. Located in the dining desert of Emory Village, Double Zero is a surprisingly chic and buzzy spot for delicious pizza, drinks, and more in the neighborhood. We stopped in to this beautifully decorated and vibey spot on a recent Friday night, and settled into a seat near their bar. For drinks, she went with a draft Peroni, whereas I had the Offering, a sort of whisky sour that was nice and drinkable. For starters, we shared the refreshing salad topped with cheese and fried capers, and the out-of-this-world garlic knot. Almost more like a savory, cheesy doughnut, the knot is probably some of the best bread I have had in Atlanta, and almost worth coming back for all in its own. For dinner, she had the margherita pizza, which was perfectly dressed with the most amazingly tart tomato sauce (not to mention, the heavenly namesake crust), whereas I had the wild mushroom main, a sort of warm salad with arugula, olives and a well-curated assortment of wild mushrooms. A hidden gem, I look forward to coming back to Double Zero for a drink (and a garlic knot or three) at their beautiful bar. read more

As of now, I can only give Double Zero 3 stars however, we do think the restaurant was having a really bad night the night we visited. When we arrived for our 7pm reservation, we were told that a table would be ready in a few minutes. We were seated 15 minutes later. This shouldn't happen when you have a reservation and are on time. Once seated, we waited several minuted before our waiter greeted us and poured us water. We also started noticing other tables who looked like they were impatiently waiting for drinks, food and checks. At this point, we realized it was going to be a long night. After we ordered drinks, the gentleman behind us asked the hostess where his waiter was and said that they had been waiting 25 minutes and still had not received their appetizer (our appetizer was brought out before theirs). Maybe 10 minutes later, he and his wife walked out of the restaurant - he did tell the waiter that it was not his fault and tipped the waiter. We then noticed another table near us where two people had received their food but the other two were still waiting for their food. They were waiting a while... At one point, a family was leaving and stopped by our table and handed us a voucher for a free "small plate" because they were given two vouchers because of the poor service they received. The whole situation was laughable at this point. It obviously seemed like something was going wrong in the kitchen - maybe a couple of cooks quit but it also seemed like the restaurant was short a couple of waiters and even a manager. The floor manager was plating food in the kitchen and the hostess was bussing tables. Something was clearly off and after reading other reviews for the restaurant, it seems like this is not the usual. If it was, there is no way this restaurant would be around in another month. So, therefore, my review will be about food, drinks, atmosphere and value. I won't review service other than mentioning that our waiter did a great job. Food - The food was really good. We ordered the meatballs appetizer which tasted good however the portion size was pretty small. It came with 2 meatballs that were on the smaller side. For the price ($9), the meatballs should be a bit larger or there should be 4 total. Drinks - We ordered the "dewdropper" which is a gin cocktail. It was just... meh.... nothing special. Next time, we'll order wine or beer. Atmosphere - The atmosphere was really good however the dining area was pretty tight. If a few tables were removed then the main dining area would be a really great space. Having the tables as close as they are is the main reason we were able to hear all the other diners having so many issues. Value - I think the prices are slightly high but what you'd expect. The pastas and pizzas seem like the best bang for your buck. Overall, it was an interesting experience. The food was good, drinks were ok and the service was bizarre but we would like to give it another chance since we do think it was an off night - or really hope it was. For now, I can't give more than 3 stars but if/when we visit again, and if the service is back to normal, i'll definitely update to 4 stars. read more

Overall it was a good experience. We were in the front corner of the restaurant on the bar side and it became too noisy to even hear each other as the restaurant filled up. The Garlic Knot and the Cauliflower appetizers were delicious! My husband and I spilt the Lasagna. I am sad to report It was too salty and too garlicky-those were the only flavors we could taste. The Stagione salad was great! Finished by sharing the Butterscotch Budino dessert with friends-also very good. More highs than lows! Would definitely go again and try a different entree. read more

First I will say, I will return to this restaurant. The appetizers were amazingly good. I would suggest making dinner out of ordering appetizers only. The rice ball Arancini was very good. The appetizers got 4 stars. The main dishes were just okay. Eggplant Parm was uneventful in my mouth, and reportedly from my other guest, the chicken fell in the same rating. When you walk in to the restaurant, there is a huge floor to ceiling curtain, which I expected to part open and have them announce the Ed Sullivan Show. I know the ambiance was supposed to be rustic, warehouse type environment. This can be done tastefully, but this place looked like it tried to get there and didnt make it, or the decor is very tired. Call me old-fashioned but this is definitely not what I expect when I think of Italian cuisine. Tapas is originated from Spain and while I understand that as a business, you definitely make more profit having a tapas menu, which are small portion plates with a pricey price tag, changing their previous menu completely was rather disappointing. I understand that Double Zero aims to intertwine its American and Italian heritage into this establishment in a contemporary way, but I believe that this new renovated restaurant has lost its Italian charm. I guess I should have known that this place is just alright when we called to make a reservation and got one right away...on Mother's Day. I understand the direction that the owners of Double Zero is trying to take---make it more rustic, edgy, clean cut, modern, have an extensive bar, and whisky collection. But if you're planning to hire a brand new staff, chef, and change the menu, make sure it's at least comparable to the old establishment....and I'm sad to say that it did not meet my expectations. And here's why: FOOD: For how much everything cost here, the food came out to be just alright. The highlight of our evening was our $74 bottle of wine, BTL La Grolet...which I highly recommend. It has a nice balance of sweetness and spiciness that is not overwhelming to the palate and it has a smooth finish. Here is what we got and my impressions: 1. Eggplant ($8): the eggplant dish comes with their pita bread and their bread came out half burnt so we were unable to eat half of it and I have pictures to prove it. When we told our waiter about this problem. He said, "oh really?" And proceeded to change the topic and did not offer to give us a new batch. Like, come on. The eggplant was alright. It was sweet yet sour yet tangy. But it was just alright. 2/5 2. Octopus ($13): This was pretty solid. Octopus was cooked well. Seasoning was good. But once again, it was just okay. 3/5 3. Rye Mafalde ($13): I didn't like this pasta dish too much since I thought it as undercooked and under-seasoned. 2/5 4. Orrechiette ($14): I would recommend getting this. Nice creamy sauce and pasta was scrumptious! 4/5 5. Butterscotch Budino ($8): when we asked for what to get, our waiter suggested this budino. I think this caramel layer is just a little bit too thick and it's overwhelmingly sweet that it overpowered the cookie and layer underneath it. You know something was wrong with this dessert when my boyfriend struggled to finish it....and trust me...he's a fan of ANYTHING dessert related. It was quite disappointing. I took a bite and it was just too much. 1/5 SERVICE: Our waiter wasn't the most attentive guy and you can tell that he's still New at this waitering thing and lacks the professionalism that goes with it. But, he was friendly, so I give him that. By the end of our meal, we got their secret envelope of a free dish on our next visit. I assume they give these to people who spend over a certain amount. But it's sad to say that I won't be returning here to see what this free stuff could be. LOCATION: this is right across from the entrance of Emory. They have valet parking at the back, right across from the CVS, but we decided to just park ourselves. This area is definitely kinda secluded and it's out of the way...but it's in a cute little strip plaza area. Overall, it's hard for me to not compare this place to its previous establishment and im just disappointed that this is the direction the owners decided to take Double Zero. I think the main problem that I have with this restaurant was that nothing stood out during my dining experience that would make me want to come back. Everything I tried here was just okay. After spending some time in Italy, Double Zero was my go-to spot when I'm craving for some authentic Italian food with a complementary great and posh service. I'm giving this place a 2 star (but if I'm comparing to what it used to embody, it would be a 1). Overall, I guess I have to find a new Italian joint when I'm feeling nostalgic.
