If you're staying in the Doubletree hotel where this is located, it's a good choice for breakfast. The buffet is pretty good and moderately extensive, or you can order off the menu. I was less pleased with dinner: the menu includes Minnesota cuisine like walleye cakes and wild rice cream soup, but I found them rather dull compared to other places where I've had the same. Service can be a little pokey, but mostly good. read more

Stayed at the hotel and woke up Hungary and decided to check out The Diver restaurant located on the main level. Decided to try the Beef Hash and, Wow, it was delicious! They make it a bit different than it is traditionally made. They smash a Yukon gold potato and then layer with shredded beef, a béchamel sauce and topped with 2 poached eggs. It was heavenly! I definitely recommend trying this dish if you have the chance. read more

I ate here twice and both times the food and drinks were extremely slow to come out on a night that wasn't too busy. My server was really nice, but did not have any knowledge about the wines except for what people ordered often. This is where you as a business make money and your severs can't tell you about the taste or description of a wine?! The next day, we had limited time because of our conference and we sat at the bar and several other people sat at tables. The restaurant and hotel were given plenty notice of our arrival when the conference was scheduled. At the bar, we had the displeasure of dealing with a rude and over flustered server with long blonde hair in a pony tail. She had only taken one order at the bar, and was extremely snappy when I politely said that whenever she gets a moment, we were ready to order. She gave me attitude and said she was busy now that all these people arrived. Was that necessary? No because she's at the bar, not on the floor, so why are you giving me attitude. From now on, I'll be eating elsewhere and letting the 200 people in my conference know about the service and slow kitchen. read more

Service is slow, except for Brooke. She has been awesome and friendly. Was given a menu 5 minutes ago and still have not seen the server. He simply disappeared. Found out they make servers run food to the rooms. Should have a person clearing tables and run food. Not the servers. Getting to know the sever and he is nice, so moved from 2 to 3 star. The chicken wings are good. The tomato poke was too sweet to eat. The steak Oscar looks and smells amazing. Moved to 4 stars. The steak was prepared very good. Asked for medium and got medium. Glad I didn't go out to eat. I am happy with the food, except the crab cakes with the steak oscar. The cakes need help with the flavors read more

our training seminar included dinner in the basement of the hotel with dinner supplied by the restaurant. the spread was ok at best, but very beef heavy with the options available. they made a really good potato salad, but not something you could get full on, sadly. the bar was lackluster as well, as if the drinks didn't already come in a bottle (beer or wine, or hard alcohol) it wasn't being made. the bartender was very happy which was a plus. sadly all I could smell was the pool from the recent weekly maintenance, so yeah. I decided to make an account just to give this place a review! I recently moved nearby so my girlfriend and I decided to try the Dover out for breakfast. It's a nice looking place with decent atmosphere, I will give it that! But, we would soon be let down. First, there was no host to greet us, and no sign saying to seat ourselves. When we got seated and got our menus, we noticed the prices. One egg: $5. Coffee: $4.50. Hash browns: $5. Eggs Benedict: $16. And so on. When the waitress came back for our orders I told her we might go somewhere else because of the prices, and she said the best deal is the buffet, which is $17, so we both did that. The breakfast buffet: Pros: nice fresh fruit, good muffins and pastries. All you can eat, clean presentation. Cons: I think they put cream in their scrambled eggs (which was probably fine when it was hot out of the pan) as well as their "breakfast potatoes" (which were clearly dehydrated scalloped potatoes with dry herbs and cream). Why not butter and cheese? The sausage and bacon was okay, but it was sitting in a lukewarm grease pile of itself. It was also kind of a small selection I thought, for $17. No pancakes or waffles or French toast. And no syrup for my sausage! A couple more things: we never got waters, and our server didn't even give us a pen with our credit card receipt! As hotel bars go, this one is alright, but let's be clear...Dover's is a hotel bar, not a bar within a hotel. Dover closes at 11pm every evening, but otherwise the drinks are strong and the food is acceptable. Plenty of HDTVs, that, and this is a good thing, were tuned to the Twins games on the nights they were playing. Overall, Dover is acceptable if you are staying in the hotel & don't feel like walking across the street, but I wouldn't make a special trip here unless I lived nearby. "Is this your ENTIRE menu?" No lie. Those were the first words out of my mouth when the waitress brought us our water. Please don't get me wrong. I'm DEFINITELY NOT a picky eater. My eyes usually default to the chicken section anyway, but this menu was no longer than Lindsay Lohan's days sober. This place would be great if the waitress wasn't so damn annoying. A friend and I got a shared membership to Costco across the street, and came here for lunch afterwards since we had already been to most of the other restaurants in the West End. We also had a coupon BOGO up to $18 towards entrees. The food was retty good and the servings were fair sized. I got a burger and it was cooked excellent. I could barely eat all of my fries. About the only thing bad about the food was the fries were sea salted and boy were they salty plain but with ketchup were pretty good. The waitress came back I think 6 or maybe 7 times while we were there, to check up on us maybe or bullshit? I don't know. It was annoying. She was almost TOO nice. Like we were her long lost best friends. But the place was dead so maybe that was the reason. Overall good food, weird staff. read more

I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken. The first order was bloody...I'm not really into chicken blood on my food. They sent the order back to the kitchen, brought me a new plate (no blood) and it had a nice chicken bone in it. Now the menu didn't indicate that it was a boneless filet. However, one would assume that unless otherwise specified there shouldn't be right!?!? Needless to say I almost broke my tooth on that bone. This is one of those times when you wished you had the jaws of a pit bull. In summary, they didn't charge me for the food and you can't screw up adult beverages. Very disappointed. Attempt #1 at restaurant- Closed down over an hour early on a Friday night without signage saying so. Justification was, "the manager went home sick." Was offered to serve us a drink to sit outside in an open hallway area. Complained and was given a voucher to use at The Dover. Attempt #2 at restaurant- Only went back to use the voucher. Food was low quality. Came out too quickly. Harsh lighting. Very few people were at the bar or in the restaurant. No signage telling you where the entrance is. Also, no signage saying seat yourself. Ordered Steak Oscar. This, traditionally, at other restaurants, is my favorite meal. Here at Dover, the asparagus was the best part of the meal. I asked for the steak to be cooked at medium, it was close to well done. The crab tasted like a frozen crab cake. A hotel bar within the Doubletree that also has a sit down restaurant section. OK menu with a lot of sandwiches and not real entree dinners. I had the chicken caprese sandwich with fries. It was tasty, the fries were crisp. The other person I was with has the strip steak and subbed out the yams for the fries. The iced tea is brewed and strong. Service was good - prompt and nothing incorrect with the order. The prices are a little high, but what one would expect when eating in a hotel. read more

This restaurant is located inside the Double Tree hotel, so given that I live in the area and would not have stayed here, I would have never known it was there. I don't find myself frequenting hotel bars very often, but a friend of mine had a coupon so we decided to check it out. I was very impressed with the level of service and the nice selection of seafood dishes. The waiter had overcooked the tuna that my friend ordered and the manager mentioned before we could even complain and sent the dish right back. I had a shrimp mushroom risotto, very delicious. The portions were adequate given the moderate pricing. If you want a nice quiet dinner, I would recommend this place. read more

I wasn't encouraged by the low.rating, but I just traveled 2000 miles and to the cub foods and back and wasn't going out again tonight. The bar keeper at Dover severed me an assortment of local Ryes and whiskeys plus a fantastic local cider (one juice). "That garlic sauce is good ". Says a person down the. Bar. The resident chef recommends a.garlic aioli with the wings. The next guy down the bar recommends the Korean sauce. I had the steak new York.srtip and subituted asperagus for.rhe artichokes, with the wild rice. I make a wild.rice palaf at home because of Old MN roots, this was delicious but a little bit heavy on the salt, but I understand the problem with seasoning wild rice none the less. Ate lunch here today while attending an all-day meeting at the Double Tree. Better than average hotel restaurant fare. I had a bison burger with Swiss that was very good, and reasonably priced at 10 bucks. I opted for the fruit side, which was the sensible choice (and a tasty mix of fresh fruit), but, man, the fries looked really good. Several salad and veggie options as well. They were also very accommodating to our 10-person group (separate checks, ordering ahead of time from our meeting room, table set and ready to go). Not bad if you're in the neighborhood or staying at the hotel. read more

Breakfast here is good. The service was excellent! Eric, the manager was very helpful from the start. Right away, he set us up in a booth, brought out drinks, showed us the food we could help ourselves to, offered to bring us anything custom made that we would like (custom requests included in the $11.99 price). I had a waffle and eggs benedict. Biljana was our server; she made sure our table was clear of excess plates. Tim was the other server working the same shift. Stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton. We asked the front desk for breakfast or brunch recommendations, they of course directed us to their breakfast buffet. It was pretty sub par on all accounts. Service wise noone achknowledge us for a good 5-10 minutes, went up to the till to ask if we could get a coffee and go up for the buffet. Also had to go up to the till to request a water and the bill. It wasn't very busy and it's not like they had to take orders down. The servers were very friendly when you got them to help you. The food was ok... Your regular breakfast stuff, breakfast potato's, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs. read more

I was there for breakfast only once. When I went back a second time, I just left. I didn't want to deal with the lousy service. I actually felt like I was bothering my waitress for a glass of water. You are better off going for the buffet, so you can serve yourself. With so many good choices nearby, there really is no reason to use this hotel's restaurant. read more

Keep in mind this is a HOTEL restaurant. I've had company parties, even planned a couple of events here with the staff/chef, and have been comfortably impressed with them. The Dover is a low key venue, not usually busy in the evening. Decent assortment of alcohol and wine. The food, per my experiences, has always been good (if not great during events). They do close if it is not busy. The primary business here is the Doubletree Hotel. It's unmarked outside, not much fanfare. If you are looking for a no hassle, walk in-walk out, no frills place- this is it. For events, the sommelier and the chef managed to construct a brilliant menu for our very finicky CEO. Attended a gathering at Dover Bar. Originally I sat at the bar for quite a period of time without service. There was a rather noisy group gathered at the bar and when I mentioned I'd been there for about 15 minutes with no service, the bartender gave me my first beer complimentary. I go to a big conference here every spring. Service for all 3 years I've been attending at the Doubletree restaurant, Dover, is awful. There's a waitress, an older gal, short, who is a bear to deal with...she acts as though you are personally very upsetting her by entering the restaurant. She slammed my coffee cup (when I requested tea, that set her off) with such a thud, my companion and I both jumped. She was terribly put out that I dared ask for tea rather than coffee. Took forever to get our food and didn't bring silverware, for which we had to hail down the poor manager who was serving tables himself. When I complained about the terrible service, nasty looks and attitudes from the waitress, Eileen, he said he was so sorry and that they were a little short staffed that day. Well, when we first came in, hardly anyone else was there and 50 tables or one, you don't treat people in a restaurant that way! The manager comp'd the meals and gave us a round of free drinks. The food (vegan tacos) wasn't good, they (the restaurant) had tried to offer some vegan meals for conference attendees and it was quite clearly they had no idea what they were attempting to serve. Flavorless, tiny portions, expensive. Come on, people! Hopefully this annual conference is moving elsewhere as it seems pretty obvious Doubletree doesn't want us here. I've edited this review as when I checked other reviews of Dover, the same pattern of abusive service, no signage of where to sit or hostess, etc. has gone on for years. Pathetic. read more
