The bartenders here were great! They were so fast and attentive, checking in to be sure I got everything. I was a little disappointed with the food I ordered. Since it was a Sunday I tried the fried chicken plate and subbed out fries for a side salad. I would not recommend doing this, it's a super simple salad and there's an up charge. The chicken was pretty simple flavor wise as well. I'll stick with fries next time and maybe try one of the sandwiches which I saw at other tables and they looked good. Seated to my right I see a fellow diner meal, it's a nice chunk of iceberg lettuce, smothered with tomato, blue cheese dressing, bacon and chicken. I know what I'm ordering. Our name is called and our table is ready. We leave the cool bar area to a vast outdoor seating area. We sit, and my friends order the Char King burger and Chicken Kale salad. I ordered the Classic Wedge(description, up above) Yummy, lite, but whom I kidding, blue cheese, bacon, Yes! Very satisfying, my only small, small so small complaint is they chop the chicken in child bite size. I'd like it in adult size chunks. But it is still fabulous. The staff was great, the bartenders can lighten up a bit, when your behind the bar you got our attention, so shine. After walking around the Alamo and the riverwalk, I wanted something to hit the spot. Our usual sandwich spot was already closed for the day so we decided to try something new. We came here during dinner time on a Sunday and was seated right away. There's a patio seating option that's dog friendly. We opted for indoor seating which there were plenty of. I ordered the cuban sandwich with shoestring fries. You can upgrade it to parmesan fries for an additional $3. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. Exactly what I needed. I did get a chance to have a bite of their French Dip Sandwich and boy that was probably the best French dip sandwich I've ever had. Highly recommend! For parking, there is a big lot next to the restaurant that you can park at. Had dinner at Down on Grayson for first time. Very positive overall experience! Why? 1. Parking right next door (under the highway) and they validate for 3 hours! 2. Ample seating indoors and outdoors. We sat outdoors. Rather warm, of course, because it's summer in San Antonio. But lots of shade from trees and air movement from fans along with the natural breeze. 3. Service was outstanding. Very attentive and relaxed. 4. Prices were decent. Good value for the money. 5. It all works, and always has. We have been fans of Down on Grayson for years. There is nothing particularly elevated about the food, the decor or the service, but it all works together for an excellent dining experience each time we go. To say that the food is not "elevated" doesn't mean that it is not excellent. We always get the shishitoi peppers, the Brussel sprouts, the kale salad, the fish tacos and the Strawberry cake. No matter how often we get these items, we never get tired of them. They keep us coming back. Yesterday the weather was perfect for outdoor dining, and the place was packed. I've never had to review a paper towel machine in the bathroom before, but their's is the kind you wave your hand under and it rolls out a bit of paper for you. I've never had a machine give out a paper towel the size of a sheet of toilet paper before. It took about 5 pieces before I was able to get enough to dry my hands. We had dinner for my daughters birthday and we just picked a place we saw while walking around the Pearl. This is not a kid friendly place. They did have high chairs but I definitely did not feel comfortable or welcomed with my 1 and 3 year old. You can tell when staff look at you when you are welcomed and when you are not. We did not see her for another 15 minutes wherein my husband got up and went inside to ask who we pay since we were waiting so long. - We were never offered a comp on the check; instead it wasn't until my husband complained that the manager took the sandwich off the bill. - Between waiting for a table and the lack of service this entire experience took about 2 1/2 hours. - I opted to get my food to go since I was already aggravated at this point. The sprouts themselves were the size of plums, which is larger than expected. And they were burnt like six layers in. Crispy burnt to the point where the outer leaves were powdered char. The strawberry shortcake cake was $17 but it's six layers so it's like three servings of cake. Delicious and flavorful but no real strawberries in the layers or on top.
