Ive been a customer for approximately 11 years now and it is crazy how time flies. I think a review is long due. As always, Robert the boss and his staff Danny never disappoint. All my cars get serviced by them and its always done in a timely manner with full transparency. Just recently ( middle of July, hot summer) my minivan AC was not as cold as it normally does and I needed the use the minivan the next day to run some errands. I discovered the problem that day around 2pm and took it to him right away. AC had moisture built up and needed to be serviced. I had my AC fixed a few hours later. Thanks Robert and Danny! Another shop told me my engine was dead and I was originally coming to get a turbo oil line fix. I had the part but there was oil everywhere and the engine block might have been cracked. My first communication was with Robert who couldn't have been more patient and understanding about a miscommunication that was my fault. But they still squeezed me in as a drop in appointment. I appreciated that they allowed me to swing by without having to wait. They saw me immediately and started work literally within seconds of me pulling in. Honest, reliable and friendly to work with. I was told from numerous auto shops that i had a carburetor issue. I even paid a carburetor expert to come to my place and have his input on my issue. first and foremost i have a 1963 cadillac deville, The carburetor expert that came over and ran some test also said it's your carburetor. After asking and much reading, i came across DR. Smith Carburetor. I called and asked some few questions and the gentleman on the other side of the line said "bring It In" i said will you look at it now? he said YES! I was sold with his answer. I drove in very close to closing time. DR Smith as i like to call him ( true name Robert ) stopped what he was doing and said let's take a look. After about an hour of turning off an on the car and checking some electrical items he said "I CAN FIX IT" but not today. Problem was not the carburetor!? This guy is the real deal. I've been a customer of Robert's for the past 20 years and have referred several friends to his shop. Everyone has a story about their mechanic and what makes him "great". I too have a couple that I experienced firsthand. I had brought my car in for an oil change and for him to look at the brakes. As I was waiting a woman in a newer Mercedes drove in. She told Robert that she was having an electrical problem with the car and wanted him to look at it. He told her to wait inside the waiting room and he'd look at it. She came in and saw me and asked if he was a good mechanic. I told her that I had been a customer for over 10 years and he is a very honest mechanic. We talked for a bit and it seemed to calm her down. After about 10 minutes Robert walked back in and handed the lady her keys and told her that her car was fixed and not to worry about it. She was floored, and didn't know what to say. He told her that it was just a burnt fuse. She told him that she had just left the dealership where they had quoted her almost $1,000 to fix the issue. She went to another mechanic that told her he could fix it for around $600. Robert told her that it was just a fuse and when she has a "real" problem to come back and he'd fix her car and charge her. She was adamant to pay him and he said, laughing, "Look it's costing me more money to talk to you now than it was to replace the fuse". The lady was impressed with his honesty and laughed and told him she would be back and send all her friends to him. He waved and probably didn't expect to see her again. A week later I went to drop off my other car for a smog. I looked and all the bays were full and he had cars parked everywhere. I walked in and said "bad day to get my car smogged?" He said: "we are really busy, remember that lady last week with the Mercedes?" I said "yeah the one with a broken fuse?" Robert responded "Yeah, all those cars belong to her friends that came in just to have their cars looked at and oil changes". I told him when you are an honest mechanic what do you expect, word gets out. Another time I brought my car in for an issue. I'm a home mechanic so I work on my own cars. Well my car started acting up. I thought it was time for a new transmission but wanted to have it checked by Robert before I go to transmission place. I drove my car over and he asked "What's wrong with it?". I told him well you're the mechanic figure it out, of course I was joking with him and he laughed. He said ok but it's probably something big. I got a ride home from a buddy of mine and left my car with Robert. About 3 hours later he calls me and wants me to come by to talk to me. When you hear a mechanic say that you know it's never good news. So I get a ride back to Roberts and I walk in expecting to hear a quote of $800+. He looked at me and said "So you think you need a new transmission?" My head dropped and of course I answered "Yep". He said "I thought so too but no, you don't . You had a crack in one of the vacuum hoses that assists the transmission. Put in a new hose and it started working fine." I was relieved and more than happy to pay for the trouble shooting and hose. I will continue to take my vehicles to him because I trust him and know he will never put my life in danger by not telling me something is wrong with my vehicles. He is a good mechanic and stands by his work. read more
