This place is amazing! I had such a great time. I drank three different kinds of yummy tea at their bar and then did some shopping! I bought a jar of whole roses, rose black tea, and lychee black tea and the manager gave me almost a dozen free samples! Today I popped into dragon herbs for a tonic and received some of the warmest and patient service I have ever received! I wish I could remember his name, but I visited on a Wednesday around noon. The barista walked me through the entire menu and prescribed my husband and me drinks he recommended for our particular dispositions. The teas were both delightful and I sincerely enjoyed sipping mine on the whimsical carved wood stools. I was so excited to come to Dragon Herbs on my most recent LAdventure. I had first been introduced to the line of teas/herbs and tonics through Erewhon on my last trip to LA. While it wasn't quite the magical experience I had built it up to be in my head - I did enjoy exploring this unique tea haven. The store is impressive - with their diverse array of teas, their large handcrafted wooden swivel chairs, their lovely wooden tea bar, and their mesmerizing section of holistic products and snacks. The gentleman behind the elixir/tea/tonic bar gave me a menu to look at. Dragon Herbs' menu is a thing to behold. It's big, lengthy and full of magic. To be honest - it's almost too big. I think less options or having someone walk you through the menu - would be helpful here. The gentleman assisting me - recommended an energizing tonic and he answered any questions that I had in regards to it's ingredients. Another staff member was even kind enough to let me sample one of the pricier teas that I was considering buying. I ended up exploring most of the store on my own. I was ready to buy countless teas and products here, but I ended up just buying that energy tonic drink. I was super-excited about visiting after a very long hiatus from the old 3rd Street location. After watching a few inspiring Dragon Herbs vids, I set aside my Sunday morning to drive out from Glendale (fully intending to spend a fun/ lazy morning checking out the store and tonics). The moment I walked into the empty shop ... I sensed his anxiety/ almost annoyance at my nerve for having walked in smiled, and said hello. I went ahead and asked some questions anyway, and he kept interrupting me while directing me to a whole bunch of different products not having fully heard anything I was saying. The guy was just not present. I ended up buying a couple bottles of things I didn't feel I would use because I was concerned about the immune stimulating properties of some of the ingredients, so before I left the parking lot...I turned back to return them and get the item I had been wanting to try in the first place. First, he scoffed at my reason for the return (which I really didn't need to give him), then followed with pretty much these exact words "whatever, you can do what you want to do". Damn straight, I can. My body, I know it better than you do. *This* guy is recommending stuff to improve *my* health? Whatever he's doing clearly isn't working for him. I cannot believe I haven't written an review before. I was introduced to Dragon Herbs about 10 years ago when I was having issues with my weight due to birth control. I would go to the SM location. Well as I entered my 20s I kinda forgot about self care. I found my way back to this location about a year ago and am obsessed. They are so helpful! I take herbs regularly for energy and to help with my cycle. TMI I know. But deal w it. I also came when I was sick and they gave me stuff to help with stomach aches and a cold. And whenever I get a headache or migraine, I come and get an elixir: The Women's Balance. It works EVERY time. Every time. I've also gotten an energy tonic. The Gogi berries are so good! I'm not a big believer in spending hundreds of dollars over creative medicine for just the sake of being cool and being part of the fad. I have taken Ayurvedic medicine since I was a kid and know that when you are sick though, such medicines always really help. This place is great for a lot of chinese medicine as such. Staff/Service: The staff was very courteous and knowledgeable. They prescribed to some pills (I haven't tried them yet) and mentioned they have a 30 day return policy if the stuff I feel is not working. That was good. Bar/Ambiance: The ambiance is nice. The bar chair are something very unusual and there are TV videos mute in the background showing all the different herbs etc. The place is loaded and surrounded by herbs, berries, and bunny foo foo medicine you can think of. Price: I do think some of the medicine, herbs, teas are overpriced here. But again, perhaps its the authenticity and the cost of bringing them here. I was disapointed at one fact though. My partner ordered a coffee that was $4.50 which according to the menu already had FFT something. I got the bill and was charged $7 for the same thing. I didn't question it assuming he must have asked them to add something. He hadn't. We were already at the car and I didn't want to go back to make the change. I'm giving a 1 star because every time I go here they are very under staffed. The staff is usually nice however this is a management issue. I don't mind paying top dollar for hers and $30 for one cup of tea, however it may take about an hour just to check out. Management needs to train staff on multitasking various customers as well as maybe hiring on an additional cashier. Since we pay top dollar and are actually the paying customers, I feel like we deserve at the minimum a timely check out. Okay, just reading over the reviews, I'd just have to say that there's too many folks who do not know SQUAT about how WONDERFUL Dragon Herbs is. First of all, Dragon Herbs technically has 4 locations (2 retail stores, a corporate headquarters in Mid-Wilshire, plus a wear house for shipping). I've also "heard it through the grapevine" that they are planning to open another store in Soho (can't wait to tell my NY friends)! Secondly, I ALWAYS get GREAT service from Dragon Herbs. Most recently, it was in December, 2013. I was sick right before Christmas. My traditional doctor @Kaiser diagnosed me with "adult onset allergies" and advised me to take generic Claritin. Problem is, I still had mucus build up and other 'issues.' I called in and talked to Joan. She set me straight. I've ordered herbs from here many times and have also been at both locations to ask more than my fair share of questions. How good are Dragon Herbs? I don't know. It is hard for me to compare the Dragon Herb products with other products (A/B comparison, double blind, etc, etc) but usually I get results to help the condition that I am trying to help; not always. That's really the bottom line. You have to get the right products, and you have to take them. Regarding consultations, whether my discussion has been on the phone or in person, I always felt as though the consultant was listening to me and giving me reasonable feedback based on TCM theory and my situation. Yes, a couple of times the store was busy and the person can't spend 10 minutes answering all of my questions educating me on TCM. However I will say that one time the consultant was slightly abrupt and I just said, "no problem, I'm here for help and I can and will wait". Thirty minutes later when the dust had settled, she bent over backwards helping me. Regarding taxes, I think that depends on the product labeling and since the label I just looked at states Dietary Supplement, I believe that the state of CA requires taxes to be collected and paid to the Board of Equalization. If it is considered a food product, then there are no taxes. So bottom line is that I think it depends on labeling and classification of the product. But it is not like the store gets to keep the tax so I don't think there is much motivation for them to decide to collect taxes. It seems like more of a burden than anything else. On another note, if you look at Jing Herbs, they charge tax as well. I also eat mostly vegan (Cheese once in a blue moon) and one person at the store did not think that was helping my health. OK, that may be the truth and I accept that opinion. It may be a little harder to bring balance to an out of balance condition with a vegan diet. I don't know but that seems like a reasonable conclusion to me. No worries, maybe adapt some Ayurveda food suggestions and see if it helps. For example, I started to eat more kicahri. I think the people are just trying to help by providing their understanding of how to achieve balance. read more

Ron has always been the best and Highest quality for a surprising fair price by LA standards. His formulations have always worked for me. The store on Robertson is an oasis in LA and a must visit. I love this magical location! Not only do they carry many of my favorite high quality Chinese herbal products, everyone that works here is so very pleasant and knowledgeable. A few times an herbalist had a look at my tongue and shared some traditional knowledge and recommendations after assessing(spot on!). Me and my wife had a free consultation with Gabriel and he was absolutely outstanding - patient and knowledgeable, I have rarely experienced such grace from a stranger in retail - he asked intelligent questions and listened to everything we said and put together a very specific and mindful array of herbal products. I went here on a lazy Sunday this past week, as I have been feeling under the weather longer than I care to be. I wasn't aware of this other location (yay) until I saw that the Santa Monica location is currently closed. But pleasantly surprised nonetheless. I got there easily and there was free parking in the back. There is a very chill, relaxed vibe when you walk in. I perused a bit then spoke to Gabriel, who was very nice, about how I was feeling. I saw he was he helping another customer as well so I went to check out the tonic bar. The tonic bar is a very large area where you can get speciality drinks, tonic shots, along with coffee and tea. The other very nice guy behind the counter, Matt, recommended a hot drink called Demon Killer. He did warn me it would taste rank but I decided to give it a go. He was right but the worst tasting is usually best for you. Then Gabriel came over with suggested tea and supplement recommendations, which were specific to helping me recover but also addressed the proactive benefits. There is a wide variety of supplements, tonics, teas, herbs, snacks, and soaps to choose from. This is definitely a place to come to chill and take your time. I never felt rushed and it was nice to be in a good space of positive energy. They really listened to me and gave great knowledge and insight.
