This is still some of the best Chinese food in San Francisco. I've been coming here for more than 20 years but hadn't been in 5+ years. I'm overjoyed it still rocks! The space is still small service is still great and the food's delicious.

The noodles were insanely good! The pork buns were just okay the meat was pretty tough. Service was quick and friendly, and I even got a good fortune in my fortune cookie. Definitely a good spot to check out if you want Chinese food.

Vegetarian Salad (essentially Chinese Chicken Salad with tofu instead of chicken... veggie option FTW!)

This is basically a 180 from my original Dragon Well review from 2024. I found my first visit pretty mediocre, but this time around it was a slam dunk, the Vegetarian Salad (basically a Chinese Chicken Salad with tofu instead of chicken) being delicious and filling. The tofu is very well prepared, fried enough to be crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside, but never greasy. The tofu itself is flavorful, not merely reliant on the dressing. The lemony dressing is light and tangy (although getting an extra helping to split with my partner was a smart move). Our server was friendly and the atmosphere was elegant but charmingly low key. It's a very nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of Chestnut Street, to say nothing of its being a nice change of pace from the rampant fast-casual places in the Marina. The table service and nicely appointed dining room are an elevated experience in a neighborhood dead set on takeout operations with low overhead. My only suggestion would be that they change the salad ratios to lessen the need for more dressing; this could be done by simply removing some of the iceberg lettuce, of which there is a lot. Then the original amount of dressing would be perfect. Pro move: ask for some of their hot mustard and give your salad a delightful kick. We will be back... a lot.

Came to Dragon Well on a weeknight for dinner around 5:30pm. Staff were friendly and the service was quick. The food was pretty good, I enjoyed the curry noodles and thought the flavor was really good. The Mongolian beef was also pretty good although it didn't come with rice (we had to order it separately). Overall the food was good but didn't wow me, and the prices seem a bit high for just okay flavors. I would potentially return to try some different dishes.

Hands down one of the worst food delivery experiences I've ever had in San Francisco. The food was thrown together with zero care, poorly packaged, leaking everywhere, and clearly not quality-checked before being sent out. This shows a complete lack of professionalism and respect for customers. No restaurant should ever send out food in this condition. Dragon Well needs serious improvements in quality control, packaging, and overall service. Completely unacceptable.

Dishes. Delightful. Worthy. A welcome surprise for authentic chinese food outside Chinatown. Enjoyed brunch with a friend who has been here many times. Attentive service, relaxed setting to enjoy dishes on a sunny Saturday. Definitely will be back. Dishes enjoyed: Pot Stickers Minced Chicken in Lettuce Cups Black Bean Chicken Brown Rice

Was walking down chestnut with a friend to get some sweets from susie's. We got hungry and walked past this place that had a sign outside with their small plate menu items. That alone got me excited to see the rest of the menu which looked appealing. My friend and I walked in and were greeted by the host/server. They had a few tables open and got seated right away. The place inside is small but cozy and clean. The food came out and tasted delicious. We took the rest home and ate it for a midnight snack. Would come back for the other items for sure!

Food looks great, but I waited a hour for this! I must say the Delivery Service was Eating this place up. people are ordering back to back from this location. The place smells amazing when you walk in the door. You won't know what to order!

    Mongolian Beef Side of Rice

Dragon Well is a pleasantly small restaurant, tucked away on Chestnut Street. It fit in so well with the surroundings, that I almost walked right past it. To begin, my host was very friendly and offered to assist with anything on the menu. I was quickly brought a glass of water with a lemon wedge added for flavor, while I waited for the arrival of my entrée. I had ordered the Mongolian beef from what I was told was the lunch menu. It arrived quicker than I thought. However, no compromises were made in the quality of the food or the preparation and presentation. Right out of the gate, I knew there was something special about this dish. It was full of subtle flavor and just a slight hint of spiciness. While the flavors were subtle, they were also very complementary of each other and served to make a very good meal. I was looking for something very authentic, vs. something that's been over processed and I believe I found it at Dragon Well! I Genuinely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an original Chinese offering when visiting San Francisco. My compliments to the cooks and staff!

    The view from our seat.

Excellent service and the food was so fresh and delicious. Sometimes Asian food can be too "sticky", but this food was so tasty and not load d down with oil and sugar. I got the Kung Pao chicken and my partner got Black Bean Chicken. We will definitely be back. Oh! Our server was awesome. Attentive, polite, and Johnny on the spot!

Some of the best SF Chinese. Just all around good cuisine. I liked Beef w/ Tomato & Tofu. Brown rice was firm & not over cooked.

While we were waiting for our table, we saw 2-3 couples get turned away. The restaurant is small, but the interior is well-decorated. It pays homage to HK posters, music, and culture. They offer two complimentary small bites of smashed cucumber and peanuts. - XO Escargot: a must order, the dish only comes with 6 pieces but it's so worth it. The sauce is garlicky, buttery, and each bite with the milk bread is so good. The bread also has a crispy outer layer while the inside is super soft. - Eggplant: at first, we thought the dish was good, but the pieces on the bottom that soaks up all the sauce makes the eggplant full of umami flavor. This paired so good with rice. - Mapo Tofu Spaghetti: just as you imagine, but very yummy. I wish there was more of a numbing spice personally! - Black Pepper Steak: The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare and the sauce was very yummy. This dish did not blow me away like some of the others but was still good nonetheless. I really wished we could have try the Singapore Chili Crab, but that would have been too much food. Our server was also fantastic and so kind, I wish I caught her name. Will def be back!

I loved that the restaurant teleports you to 90s Hong Kong from the posters to tunes. It's not the biggest restaurant so it feels a little tight and a line forms quickly out the door. Food was consistently ok and salty. We ordered the fried squab, black bean clams, green beans, etc. Portions run on the smaller side but the price goes in the other direction. Next time I'm around, you'll find me at R&G Lounge which is the uncontested king and a much more authentic showing of Cantonese food.

The wontons were excellent with a nice amount of wrapper and a great texture. The pork and shrimp filling was juicy and tender, with a nice bite and snap from the shrimp. The broth was rich and savory and went perfectly with the wontons and rice noodles. The sauteed string beans were cooked just right with plenty of flavor and still had a nice bite to them. The salt and pepper chicken wings were another favorite. The skin was crispy, the batter was seasoned well, and the flavor went all the way through to the meat. The chicken was moist, juicy, and flavorful, and I really enjoyed all the toppings that came with the wings. Service was great. They took our order quickly and the food came out fast. DIM SUM! 4.8…read more An ending to our wonderful three-day weekend getaway was made even better with the discovery of Harborview for dim sum. We have our favorite dim sum spot in the South Bay, but we had yet to find a favorite in San Francisco, until now. There's a very famous one in the City where we used to dine, but our last visit left us disappointed. So, we had our fingers crossed for Harborview. Conveniently located in Embarcadero 4, Harborview is next to the Hyatt Regency, just steps from Embarcadero Plaza and directly across the street from the Ferry Building. If you're stopping by for the bar only, and yes, they have Happy Hour (Tuesday-Friday, 4:00-7:00pm), enter from the second floor. There are escalators and an elevator inside the Embarcadero 4 building, which are also convenient options if you're unable to navigate the circular staircase leading to the dining room. The main dining room entrance is on the first floor, with the courtyard facing Drumm Street. After checking in, you'll be guided upstairs to your table. We had made reservations, so our wait was minimal. When our table for two was ready, we made our way through the bustling main dining room to the outdoor patio in the back. Every table was shaded by an array of large, tan umbrellas, making the patio especially inviting on such a beautiful day. When it comes to dim sum, we tend to order the same familiar dishes. We do this intentionally, mainly so we can compare how each restaurant interprets these classic favorites. We ordered: * Baked BBQ pork buns with crunchy sugar crust ~ This is their signature dish, and it was delectable. Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong makes the benchmark version of this style of bun, but Harborview serves up a very tasty one of its own. * Shrimp har gow dumplings ~ Delicious, with that satisfying, delicate crunch of shrimp when cooked just right. * Glutinous rice and assorted meat wrapped in lotus leaf ~ Well-seasoned, fragrant and wonderfully moist. * Jellyfish cold plate ~ If a restaurant has this on the menu, I'm ordering it. Harborview prepares it beautifully, with just the right amount of spicy kick and that irresistible, crunchy texture that makes jellyfish so enjoyable, somewhat reminiscent of wood ear mushrooms. * Steamed chicken feet with black bean sauce ~ Exceptionally savory and tender. My favorite preparation includes slices of fresh green jalapeño, whereas this version came with red chili peppers. It still had plenty of flavor and heat. * Barbecued pork rice flour rolls * Black truffle & Kurobuta pork dumplings ~ Din Tai Fung still holds the title for my favorite XLBs, but these were a tasty rendition. Overall, every dish was very good. The restaurant was packed and clearly in full swing, yet the service remained attentive and efficient. Plenty of servers were circulating throughout the dining area, so whenever we needed something, it arrived almost immediately. With the gorgeous weather, dining on the patio was the perfect choice. It was noticeably quieter than the bustling interior, and the views added another layer of enjoyment to the meal. I think we may have just found our new favorite dim sum spot in San Francisco.

The inside decor is very fancy and upscale. This restaurant can make for a great date night or even a casual hang out, but they also have great Family Style tables which are typical for Asian restaurants seating for like 10-15 people. Overall, I would say that this restaurant is pretty good, but perhaps a bit expensive. If I'm honest, I was kind of hoping for a wow moment eating each dish because of how expensive and fancy the place was (plus sporting that Michelin star). So TLDR; good but underwhelming. Let's start with what was good! Pork buns or char siu bao: 5/5! Wow this was amazing! Like actually amazing. The crust on that bun added like a sweet outer layer was fire, the meat was super tender and great! Prob the best dish we had! The spicy wonton: 2.5/5 this was just okay imho, lacked depth of flavor and that ma la you'd want in the spice, honestly just okay and wouldn't order again. The roasted pork/charsiu: 3.5/5 pretty good overall! I do feel like some parts were a bit tough but mostly tender pieces of meat. The shu mai: 3/5 it was good, a little too chewy for me but was decent. XLB: 2/5 probably the most disappointing, lacked depth of flavor and the broth was just okay, average at best, Honestly expected more. Prob wouldn't order again. Deep fried crab claw and shrimp ball: 3/5 good crab and good seafood taste. The dipping sauce was just okay, wanted more flavor. Overall all, service was super fast, food came out in no time, could've been better with water refills. I wished that some of the dishes had a richer flavor profile that made me say wow, but unfortunately most of the dishes fell short. The char siu bao however was the star of the show! Cute place but a bit overpriced for an underwhelming flavors. Made it a four star because of the bun and the service and ambience.
