Great food in a crazy-good location. The corner of the building lends itself to a beautiful patio that was perfect on a warm Spring day. The servers and host were all very kind. We had the General Tso's, Kung Pao, broccoli beef, family mix, and cashew chicken. Also added garlic green beans and lettuce wraps. The General Tso's was the best I've ever had Anywhere. Not breaded (a good thing) but nicely fried with a good spicy sauce. King pao was also great but pretty spicy--or maybe I just ate too many of the dried tai chilies . Highly recommended read more

Outstanding food! Beautiful interior. High ceilings. Very spacious and clean with tables spaced perfectly apart for privacy. And a full bar! For a restaurant located in a busy shopping center near Walmart, Dragonfly hits all the high points in my opinion. I love that it is family-owned and run too. The most popular dish here is General Tso's Chicken and it gets rave reviews but I tend to steer clear of "cultural fusion" dishes so I didn't try it but it did look good. I ordered a few dishes starting with the Happy Family ($22): prawns, scallops, chicken, beef, and veggies and it was epic. Kinda the best of everything stir-fried perfectly in a light savory sauce. Portion size was huge so I nicknamed it "Happy Leftovers." Also ordered the Kung Pao Chicken ($19): juicy, tender chicken pieces stir-fried with peanuts, garlic, ginger, vegetables, and numbing chili peppers originating from Sichuan cuisine. Not too spicy though and I could handle it just fine. Third dish I ordered was Scallion Beef ($19) also a very popular dish at Dragonfly. Very tender slices of beef, velveted with cornstarch stir-fried with scallions, shallots, ginger and garlic and a brown sauce that tasted like it had sesame oil, and oyster or hoisin sauce, thickened with cornstarch. Just right, not gloopy. To round out the meal, I chose an order of garlic green beans ($13): green beans stir-fried with plenty of minced garlic and ginger a simple seasoning because who can have too much garlic, right? Parking is easy and right outside the door. For those needing accessible information, there are absolutely no steps or stairs and spaces between the tables inside easily accommodate wheel chairs, scooters and walkers. It looks like they have or are going to have a few outside tables for when the weather permits (here in Oregon that may not be until next May -LOL). Was in town for work and wanted to try this place. I ordered the combination chow mein and a small won ton soup to go. The chow mein was flavorful and delicious. It had shrimp, chicken, pork, green onion, carrots, bok choy in a dark sauce. The soup was good and had two won tons. The restaurant decor was very modern and upscale and well decorated. The gentleman who waited on me was really nice. Food came out in 5-6 minutes. Definitely a good find for future trips. read more

I'd seen people raving about this new Chinese restaurant on Nextdoor and I'm always on the hunt for good Chinese food here in the 'burbs. I had high hopes. Made a reservation (and glad I did because there were people waiting and it was busy) for 4 people. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. But then we waited a good 25 minutes before anyone even made eye contact so we could tell them we were ready to order. We ordered the pot stickers, General Tso's Chicken, Kung Pow Prawns, Garlic Green Beans, and Scallion Beef. Pot stickers were great. And the rest of the food was fine. It all needed a little more flavor, imo. Seemed like quality ingredients were used. My biggest complaint, besides the incredibly slow service, is the portion size. Typically we'd have leftovers ordering all that food but not here. We ate it all and were actually still hungry. For the prices (~$19 each for items with proteins) I would expect significantly larger portions. The food is good, don't get me wrong, but it's way expensive for what it is. We were greeted promptly as we entered and seated right away. Our service service was good and friendly. Our water glasses were never empty and I appreciated that. They have a full bar as well as caned sodas. I took my friend out to lunch to celebrate her birthday so I let her choose the items we were going to share versus the individual lunch specials. The Sesame beef was our favorite and so delicious. I really liked the sweet n sour prawns and their sauce. The fried won tons were a little undercooked in the middle and the sweet n sour sauce that accompanied them was not my favorite sauce at all. If you served the warm sweet n sour sauce from the prawns that would be sooooo amazing. We dipped our won tons in that sauce and it was a game changer. We also ordered the combination fried rice which seemed to be lacking flavor but it did have a good amount proteins in the rice. We were each served a small bowl of soup. The egg flower soup was flavored very well. My friend loved her hot n sour soup. The prices are a bit high for the portion size. Overall an okay experience. read more

A friend of mine who knows the owners told me this was open and so I was so excited to try this. Firstly, the interior, at the end of a strip mall next to Walmart is gorgeous! The colors are warm and the wallpaper is pretty. It's a very spacious restaurant and there's even a separate private dining area. Now to the food, it was delicious! We ordered the shrimp rolls to start and they were nicely crispy with shrimp inside served with sweet and sour and mustard sauce. They have lunch specials that include white rice but you can upgrade to fried or brown rice for just $1. The Kung pao chicken is delicious and savory. The lunch portion was perfectly sized and we ate it all. Hot tea came with the meal. The server was learning her job but was very attentive and refilled drinks and took away service plates in a timely manner. Overall, a 5 star experience and I wish them a lot of success! read more

I had heard a lot of positive posts on Nextdoor about Dragonfly Asian Bistro, so thought I'd give it a try. What a costly and disappointing mistake! This is some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had, and it was expensive! I ordered on Grubhub and it arrived hot and fast. So far, so good, but unfortunately, that is where the good part ends. First of all, they use plastic food containers, no paper boxes. Hot food in plastic containers is gross! Secondly, the portion sizes are small for the high cost - at least fill up the container when you're charging $20-$23 for an entree! Third, they didn't pay attention to the extras I paid for, and fourth, the food is just plain lacking flavor! I ordered the combination rice and asked for them to add onion and scallions for an extra charge. Nope, they didn't do either. I couldn't see or taste onion at all. There was very little meat in the rice, but a lot of egg and the rice was basically flavorless. Next was the General Tso's chicken. The sauce was watery, and the chicken used is thigh meat and it isn't deep fried. The container was about half full. Last, and the worst, was the happy family. This was a real disaster and complete waste of money! It was more like unhappy family soup! The "sauce" was like a clear broth, very watery, even more so than the General Tso's sauce and it has zero flavor! There were two shrimp and two scallops. The one shrimp I ate tasted old. The whole dish was flavorless, no seasoning at all. The vegetables were fresh, but it was seriously like a weird soup of red and yellow bell pepper, sugar snap peas, mushrooms, zucchini, carrot (one piece) and broccoli. Unlike any happy family I've ever had. The cost for the food alone was $55.50, total cost was $66. The "soup" is going in the trash, it's that bad. Hopefully, the General Tso's chicken will taste better the next day. Not sure if it's worth eating the flavorless rice. If I could get a refund from Grubhub, I would request it, but because the food isn't "spoiled" or the order is mostly correct, they don't care if you like it or not. I will never order from Dragonfly Asian Bistro again, and I won't recommend anyone else do either. Sorry, I know the restaurant business is tough these days, but for $55 I should be able to enjoy the food, and this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had, and I order delivery/take-out a lot. Hopefully, this was just a fluke, but I won't try again, it was a costly mistake. Oh, and no fortune cookies, soy sauce packets or napkins with the order either! We got the beef Lo mein and the beef was very tender, the dish had good flavor and was a nice size portion. The other dish we ordered was the Tso's chicken and it was bursting with flavor and the chicken was tender. We were impressed with the quality, flavor and it was piping hot upon pickup. read more

I saw some pics on this page that weren't on the menu, nor even when I called to get the daily specials, but they actually accommodated me and prepared an order of the EXCELLENT shrimp balls (they said they needed time to prepare them earlier in the day when I called). Pretty disappointed considering the hype about this place. As a local couple from Hawaii, we have standards for a Chinese meal and this didn't cut it. Crispy noodle tasted good but was not crispy. Hubby said fat noodles can't get crispy. Happy Family was not tasty and was cold. Tasted like happy "leftovers". Won ton had cream cheese which was not only surprising but disappointing. While our server was really nice, she forgot our tea and we had to request it again after all the food came. The restaurant doesn't give you chop sticks unless you request them too. We got the General Tso's and it was immaculate. We also had the basil chicken and it felt like my Chinese grandma invited me to her cookout, amazing. I personally had a bowl of the Wonton soup and it hit all the right spots, with rich ups and downs that manipulated my taste buds. This place is SO GOOD. We walked in and were immediately welcomed and seated by the host. My partner came across this place because it was the highest rated Chinese food around, and it did not disappoint. For our appetizer we ordered the potstickers, and I ordered a bowl of hot and sour soup. I haven't had this good of hot and sour soup since the 90s - I actually quit ordering it bc it's always been a letdown. On to the potstickers: they were doughy on the inside yet crispy on the outside and lightly toasted. General Tso's chicken - juicy on the inside with a light fried coating. You can tell this restaurant does not double fry (like some restaurants do to save cost and money and also flavor). We ordered one of their specialty cocktails: the volcano bowl - refreshing and dangerous! It was served with an actual fire coming from inside the cutup lime which I thought was pretty cool. Their condiment chili oil is actually spicy and tastes homemade. (Idk if that's actually the case, but it tastes fresh and spicy.) Decor is eye-catching. Beautiful high-ceiling green walls with an accent wall of green flowers its gold foil finishes. 100% I will go here again, and my partner agrees that he will do too as well. read more

Very nice place. The atmosphere is well above average when compared to similar Chinese/Asian restaurants in the area. I would call it slightly upscale! The important stuff... The food... The menu is pared down, not as vast, when compared to other local Chinese/Asian restaurants. What they do create is very, very good. But, the downside for all of this is higher than average prices and reduced portion sizes. So, it depends on what the future diner is looking for... Well executed dishes in very nice surroundings, or lots of food for a cheap price... Don't just listen to me, make up your own mind... But I advise trying the Dragonfly at least once! read more

DELICIOUS! The Dragonfly Asian Bistro has amazing food and a lovely ambience. I had shrimp and vegetables, and my friend had the salmon. I was struck by how good the egg flower soup was, and my friend said it was the best sweet and sour soup she'd ever had. The small, but very tasty salad that came with our lunch hit the spot. Before we left, a woman at the table next to ours placed an additional order of green beans after her lunch to take home. I asked her about it, and she said the green bean dish was sensational. She also volunteered that it was the best egg flower soup she'd ever had. I saw in the comments someone who ordered for delivery and was upset because the sauces and breading weren't as thick as with traditional "American Chinese" food. They were also disappointed that they didn't receive packets of soy sauce. I think if that's the kind of Asian food you are looking for, you should try a different restaurant like Panda Express. I love the garlic eggplant the most...the sauce is sooo good!! First off, this isn't your cheap all-you-can-eat style Chinese restaurant. I see a few comments lamenting the cost, but if you're just hunting for a bargain, you're better off w/ any of the "Chinese American" restaurants that boast ~100 dishes, none of them done well, but big huge platters for cheap, and everything tastes the same. That said, Dragonfly Bistro is exceptional Chinese food. The only one in Portland that I would go to. The prawns and scallops are divine - my professional chef friend even had to pause and praise - the scallops practically melt in your mouth. Every dish has its own distinct taste, and that's more than appreciated. It's true that the portions aren't the "usual" Chinese restaurant style - where you get enough to feed a whole family, but if you care more about quality than quantity, there is no other. read more

I'll start with the best thing I've got - the green beans were good. My friend and I arrived at 545 on a Tuesday night. We were asked to wait for a table. No worries we can do that. It was busy but not that busy. There were open tables. We waited over a half an hour for a seat. Again - not a huge deal but we were hungry by then. We were seated and then not checked on for another 15-20 min - just the menus, no water, no drinks. We got our food and drinks ordered and waited another 20 min before our first appetizer came out. The crispy wontons - 4/10. Water is empty, no staff to be seen that aren't wandering around sort of aimlessly. The rest of our food comes out. We've chosen the sesame beef, general tsos chicken, green beans, and chow mein. We are over an hour from when we arrived at this point. The general tsos chicken was lukewarm and despite being covered in chilis - was predominantly salty with no other real flavor to speak of. The sesame beef was cut the wrong way and short of using scissors was unable to be reduced in size. We were left chewing and chewing and chewing large hunks of beef - my jaw feels like Ive eaten a full bag of jerky. Taste was ok but again very heavy on the salt. The green beans were good. Solid 7/10. The chow mein however was back to subpar. The mushrooms weren't cooked and still held a ton of water, the shrimp were over cooked, and the sauce was predominantly fish sauce and more salt. We never got our water refilled, we never got another soda (and we asked). If the service was better we could have overlooked the food, if the food was better we could have overlooked the service. We spent over 2h here. As it is, nothing can be overlooked and we will not be returning. Save your pennies and go to Panda instead - even the fortune cookies were disappointing. 4/10 is a generous rating. read more
