Let me start off by saying I would give it 4.5 stars but not quite 5 stars. I arrived shortly after 6 AM which is when they open. The business is recently opened and seems very popular. I had heard of the lines out the door and down the sidewalk but I walked right in on Monday morning and right to the counter. Staff was very friendly. Now let's get down to brass tacks: They make one type of donut. One. It is a good donut, no scratch that, it is great donut and it is a cake donut. Very dense and fried at I believe around 400° and has a nice crispy exterior and a very dense interior. Very good in taste and fried to perfection. If you like yeast donuts you are out of luck but if you're driving by go ahead and try a cake donut you won't be sorry! OK now that were passed the foundation let's move on to how these things are topped. Pretty much any way you want. They have a list of their popular ones that you can just pick from or you can custom create your own which is kind of cool but could slow down the line if there are lots of people in there. The staff is comprised of a variety of people both young and old. All were very friendly and willing to help but due to the newness of the franchise they are still on their learning curve so be patient with them. A lot of times people forget what it's like to be new at something. All in all I will definitely be back. I still prefer Schneider's bakery in Westerville over everything else but these are a really good alternative and by no means is this an insult to what they have going on at Duck Donuts. Now let's get to the sidenote: Coffee! What good is a good donut without coffee! Their coffee was really really good! Maybe it was the early hour, the fact that I had just got up, or was just salivating from the smell of the delicious donuts, but their coffee was epic! I had the lighthouse blend and it was super hot and had a really good taste. Straight black please, nothing added! I'd been wanting to try Duck Donuts for a long time, and we finally went for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was around 7:30 am, and there was 1 table of people there. We set our eyes on the breakfast sandwiches pretty quickly because we didn't just want sugar for breakfast, and then we noticed a breakfast sandwich combo with coffee. It was weird the number of restrictions on this combo. In hindsight we probably should have just said "forget it" and ordered something else. You can get a sandwich on an English muffin or a donut: same price. But the combo is only good for the donut sandwich. We asked about customizing the donut, which is pretty much the whole point of duck donuts, right? The cashier said it was just a plain donut. I'm looking at a photo next to the breakfast sandwich combo on the menu that shows a maple bacon donut, so I pressed the point. Then she conceded that you could get that one customization, but only that one. Odd. Why not let you customize the sandwich donut? Just strange. She didn't know how to ring up the combo... maybe she was new, but it seems the employees need some training. And...well...what I realized is that I inhaled my donuts so quickly that I did not, in fact, take a picture. Oops? I'd actually intended to just eat one donut there and take my other two home. But I once I started, there was no stopping. I loved these warm, flavorful donuts so much. In terms of style, they're pretty much the opposite of my other favorite Columbus donuts (Destination Donuts), but they're just as good. My sister's fiancé got us a half a dozen of these bad boys. They had been talking these things up to me for a while now. He got them fresh but I was not able to try them till maybe 6 hours after so this may of influenced my opinion on them. I thought they were okay but not the best donuts I ever had. They are cake donuts and I would much rather have a yeast donut. I think it really cool how you can customize them on the spot. It's finally here! My family has enjoyed the original Duck Donuts location in the OBX for many years, so I was excited to hear that it was opening in Westerville. Well, excited and a little nervous. Yes the lines are long. Partly, I believe, due to it being new, but also because everything is fresh and made-to-order. You won't find any donuts in glass cases that have been sitting out for hours. Maybe it's nostalgia of family trips, or maybe the donuts are just that good, but either way I didn't mind the long wait. Each starts as a bare cake donut. Then, you choose a combination of coating, toppings, and drizzle as preferred. My favorite is the peanut butter coating! They usually have order forms you can fill out for the cashier, to make ordering quick and simple - though the day I went they had run out. They probably could have just printed more from their website but I wasn't too bothered by it, as the donut creation assembly line was already working hard to keep up with new orders as it was. For now, I give this place between 4 and 5 stars. The donuts are just as delicious as the ones I've had at the beach, but there are definitely some things they could work on to make the process go a bit smoother. New establishments always have some hiccups in the beginning, though, so I won't be surprised if I end up changing my rating to the full 5 stars once things settle down and they work out some of the kinks. read more

I couldn't wait to try these donuts. This location is the closest to me. So on a trip to IKEA I made my 1st stop. I arrived around 10-10:30am. There was very few customers inside which I enjoyed b/c there was no long line or wait. The two employees working were friendly and very helpful explaining how to order since I did state that it was my 1st time. I was surprised that donuts are made to order and served fresh. I love me a warm donut. I ate my donuts in shop along with a iced coffee. My coffee was so-so. But the donuts were absolutely delicious. I even took some home to my kids and they enjoyed them as well. Although they were no longer warm by the time they got home from school. Haha! My only complaint is that there isn't more seating. It's so nice to have a piece of North Carolina in Columbus, Ohio! My family used to frequent this donut shop during our vacations to the Outer banks so I was very excited when this location opened. This is a great place to grab donuts for home or the office. While a dozen donuts is a little bit more expensive than your average Dublin Donuts type shops, it's definitely worth the extra dollars. The donuts are made fresh and decorated right in front of you so you always walk out with hot and fresh treats. You can make your own flavor combinations, or go with the many amazing options already available. You really can't go wrong with any flavor here. There is also coffee available to pair with your selections. In my opinion, the coffee isn't strong, but I enjoy it since the taste takes me back to the beach :) read more

Let me start off by saying I am a huge donut person. I was so excited to see this place coming to Polaris! However once I saw they only made cake style donuts I was a bit worried. I am happy to report these donuts are delicious. I think these are best enjoyed at restaurant because they are made fresh and hot! Sort of like Kristy Kreme you have to eat them quick! These are your choices after you've driven yourself crazy over the insane combinations of said sugar and crumble toppings to decide between (as if you're supposed to have any idea what to pick). So everybody and their brother raved about how good these donuts were. I'm not a huge sweets eater but I do love a good donut, so I finally got there last night. I wasn't impressed. First of all, the entire schtick seems like a cop-out. They only have one kind of donut - plain vanilla cake - and you specify what glazes, toppings and drizzles you want. Each donut is made fresh so they're hot when you get them, which is kind of nice, I guess, although hot donuts really only work for me if they're Krispy Kreme, otherwise they're just oily and smushy (as these were). So your only variety options are in what you put on top of the donut. Call it the Coldstone Creamery approach, but with less options to start from. The cake donut itself is...fine. I didn't think they were anything special. When hot they were oily, and when they had cooled they were still sort of oily. I got two glaze/drizzle combos, one lemon with blackberry and one chocolate with salted caramel. None of them really tasted like much of anything except overwhelming sweetness. I did not get a distinct blackberry flavor nor an especially delicious lemon flavor, and the chocolate/caramel was even less differentiated. I will say that the staff was super nice and very efficient, and the system they have seems to work great. The product wasn't *bad,* per se, I just don't get the hype. read more

The menu is straight forward: 3 steps to how you want each donut and however many of each.
