Found a dead mouse in my bread, eeeeeyou.Staff are rude.Sign says no wheel chairs walkers or strollers. I guess they dont want their floors scratched.No photography in the store, me and my family were kicked out for that.Note: I didnt find the dead mouse untill a few days later, so I hadnt complained about anything. Overcharged $23 for one half sandwich and one full sandwich and two coffees. Took 15 minutes to get the order placed and then they still screwed up the order. Food was cold and had been sitting for a long time. Finally after hearing the gal call number 83 and 84 several times, I went to ask about my order. It was number 93 and 94! The person couldn't read or speak english. Finally got my Cold tuna melt but no coffees. I asked and got two Styrofoam cups tossed to me with a "here!".. I wanted to smack the %=÷÷! out them. I really thought I'd like this place. I was looking at all of the pastries by the counter. I was gonna buy an apple turnover, but when I went up to the counter, the lady at the front told me to get back in line. I told her that I was looking at all the pastries and I didn't care. I have been a lifelong customer and will continue to buy their delicious bread, but Dudleys is no longer the destination bakery it once was. There's not much of a crowd anymore and the thrill of seeing fresh baked bread is gone. I did have a delicious sandwich and the service was very good. If you are driving to Julian, it's still worth a stop. I used to recommend bread and brownies, now I'd say grab a sandwich and save room for pie once you get to Julian. read more

A very overrated bakery. Bread is a notch above the mass produced bread at the supermarket. More air than substance.

Fantastic bread selection and it's all so very tasty. The only thing I didn't like was the organization of the sandwich line. It runs right down the middle of the store and it's hard to get around the line to get to the drinks or restrooms. The line for the bakery itself is long, but it goes fast. I haven't bought Dudley's famous date,nut & raisin bread for quite some times. When I went to the bakery last Saturday,I bought one. Compare to what I bought @ farmer's market before,the quality & ingredient is much less. The bread used to have a lot of dates,nuts & raisin in the bread,now you can only see few of them scattered. Some bites,you don't get any of the dates,nuts or raisin in your mouth. Not like that you got a lot of everything in your mouth for every bite before. The bread is dry & over baked. I'm very disappointed. I don't know they are trying to cut budget or increase profit,but they ain't get my purchase anymore unless they put their high standard back. read more

Dudley's has been a family tradition for years. What the hell happened? All of the changes have taken their toll and it isn't what it used to be. We bought a bag of the spice bars... the chewy texture and the intense bite of the spices has always been wonderful. We opened up the bag today and we were sorely disappointed! The spice was gone, leaving the impression of ordinary gingerbread. The texture was more cake-y, with a funny paper-like bottom. They were also about 2/3 the size they used to be. I will forever more pass on them. I can make gingerbread at home better than these things. So, hats off everyone. Bow your heads at the passing of the true Dudley's bakery. Sure, you can stop at the bakery on the way up the hill, but the new place is a sorry imitation of what it used to be. read more

Yummy breads! We went here to eat some sandwiches, the Reuben and the California roast beef were pretty good, very generous portions of meat. Then you can buy bread loads and goodies at the bakery. We bought a jalapeño cheddar and an asiago black olive loaf and they are really good! The sandwiches are kind of pricy $17 for 2, but they are filling and the bread is really good. read more

I stop at Dudley's every time I go to Julian. I'm disappointed in a couple of things.Their peanut butter cookies used to be perfect: if you're going to charge $1.45 for a little cookie, it better be perfect. Now, they're way too sweet and not peanut buttery. I think I'll skip them the next time I pass through. They taste more like honey. The prices!!! Seriously! $5.50 for the loaf of bread that you've now made much smaller??!! Not nice. People who come to buy more than one loaf should be rewarded a lot more. 2 loaves $10 maybe. 4 or more loaves $4.50 each might get you more business. My friends went apple picking in Julian on Sep. the 18th and as usual, they brought me home some apples they picked and a loaf of Dudley's bread. Specifically, some Julian Apple Nut bread. It is the worst bread I've ever had. So far, each piece has had a least six to seven large holes in it. So big that I can't even use it to make a sandwich, which is the whole point of the bread! They always purchase 5 to six loaves while they are there. I certainly hope that the rest of their bread didn't turn out as disappointing as my loaf is. I wish this were the first time this has happened but it's not. What horrible quality control Dudley's must have. If this were anything that came out on an assembly line, it would get thrown away. Horrible, horrible bread. Do better Dudley's! I've been getting bread from you since 1980 and this is the worst you've ever been. Shame on you!!! Awesome country style bakery/deli that is right along your way out to Julian. The bread here is extremely fresh and tasty. There bakery is totally worth stocking up on and the food at the deli is very yummy. Overall the prices are very fair and it is never too packed. I tried pies from the Julian Pie Company, Mom's, & Dudley's and out of all three, I liked Dudley's the best. All pies cost $15; HOWEVER, if you visit Dudley's on Monday, "ALL" their baked goods are half-off (breads, pies, pastries, etc.). I just so happened to be visiting Dudley's on Monday and picked myself up a apple/mixed berry pie for $7. The reason for the half-off sale is because Dudley's does not bake on Mondays. read more

It smells amazing when you walk in. We got fruit bars and a peanut butter cookie. Holy balls they are both amazing. It's a fairly long drive but well worth it. They also have a mini deli and more bread than anyone could ask for. The best part is they have so many different kinds of breads to suit anyone's fancy. Make the trip, enjoy it. read more

I love the breads from Dudley's in Julian. The bread is always fresh and there are many varieties to choose from. My complaint is that, when buying sliced, the slices are too thin. It seems like the bread wasn't so thinly sliced that a sandwich falls apart when I first started buying there. The store does offer unsliced. I thought I could buy that and get it sliced. What kind of bakery doesn't have a slicer available? This store doesn't, I asked. I'm not looking for Texas toast thick, but thick enough to hold up when making a sandwich! read more

The apple walnut strudel was great! The pastry was nicely layered and flaky, with just enough apple filling and walnuts. The cheddar bread was very very dry. By touch, it didn't have any softness to it. Heating it up or toasting it only made it worse. It didn't even hold together. If you're in this neck of the woods, this place is a true diamond in the rough! I didn't even know there were this many kinds of bread! It gets very busy on the weekends, but it's worth the wait. If you're feeling crazy, you can buy a whole loaf of buffalo blue cheese, or just get the classic & delicious 8-grain honey wheat. There is also a deli that will build a sandwich on any of their breads. Throw in a tiny giftshop up-front, and you have an easy 30 minute excursion you can add to any trip! This place is a MUST when in Ramona or going to Julian!! Their Irish potato bread is to die for!!!!!!! Every single time I go to Julian for the snow I just have to stop and pick some up! It's true that it's a tiny bit expensive.... But that's because it is sooooo amazing! The Irish potato bread is great for sandwiches, grilled cheese, and my favorite way.... Simply lightly toasted and covered in butter! They have a huge selection of different baked goods! And I great gift shop. The gift shop has a ton of really pretty jewelry and unique rock/shell/nature stuff. I was at Dudley's Bakery last weekend.Me and my fiance Linda decided to take a drive .Just to be driving.We stop at Dudley's Bakery since I had not been there for over15 years.But that place had change ,for the better.There was this young lady named Nicole and her sise kick Diana.They have a sandwich shop in side.And when I say outstanding sandwiches,I mean they where so good,you would slap yo momma twice.I am not kidding.I had Nicole make me a sandwich with double of everything and spare nothing.It was a big boy sandwich. First of all i just want to say that dudleys still offers a good product....and a positive experience for many people...the staff works hard and the Bread is much better quality than you can find in many stores. When i gave my opinion on the subject it was just that...my opinion. Is the bakery the same as before? Of course not...how could it be? Different owners..different ideas on where to place their focus and funding..i was simply asked for my opinion. I routinely recommend Dudleys and have no plans to stop recommending them and their products. Is it different now? Yes.....if you are looking for the old dudleys it is not there. The new dudleys is different...and people who enjoy change and see it as an opportunity to experience something new will welcome the idea. If anyone got the impression that i dislike dudleys then i am truly sorry...that was never my intention. Stop by and make your own opinion. read more

Dudley's catered our wedding with cookies and brownies. Both were so tasty! The cookies are very big and very soft, which are my favorite way to eat chocolate chip cookies! Our guests loved them! We may have ordered too much, but there were plenty for people to take home. When I went to pick up the order, they gave us a wedding present of a free pastry! Everyone there is so helpful. We travel to Dudleys just for a sandwich often. You build your own and they are huge and delicious! We also buy bread, and the kids pick out a souvenir. There is no other place like this one. Highly recommend!! read more

This is a yearly tradition...and thank goodness, otherwise we would be broke! We hit Dudley's every fall when we head up to Julian in October. We get a pie, bread and whatever else we find. The pie is to die for, however if you have allergies - make sure you read the ingredients closely - states contains wheat and egg, but apparently butter is not considered a dairy anymore...anyways, to be cautious. BUT...the bakery items are amazing - we left with 5 loaves of bread and a bag of cookies that were so amazing. We did have lunch there and the sandwich was good but the younger staff was a bit ignorant about having to follow special precautions with a customer that has allergies and that was a bit disturbing. But the older gentlemen was very good about following the precautions and when it comes down to the goods that are being purchased...that is what counts, and the goods, are good! read more

Dudleys is a must-stop on the way to any trip to Julian. I love all the great flavors of freshly baked bread. My favorite is jalapeno cheese with other favorites being the cinnamon raisin and buffalo bleu cheese. The pricing is good if you buy 4 for $20, you get 1 free, so it's only $4 a loaf which is good for the quality you are getting. I've never tried the deli so I can't comment on that, but I probably will next time. read more

Delicious bread! The prices are SLIGHTLY steeper than I expected, but I think it's worth it. I've been munching on the loaves I bought Saturday (one with dates, nuts & raisins that came highly recommended by family, and one with rosemary & olive oil that is wonderful but I think Bread & Cie's rosemary bread is a bit better maybe). It's out of the way for sure, but nice if you're going to Julian anyway or out in the area for some reason. It's one of those places you HAVE to stop at whilst making your return back to San Diego from Julian (we also make a stop at the egg ranch drive thru)... If you buy 3 loaves of bread, you get one free, so make sure to stock up... There are many varieties of bread to choose from. The fruit bars are really good too. Tell Longs to start carrying those fruit bars again! We used to come up here weekly during high school to pick up bread for fundraising, they have a good fundraising program, look into.
