Yelp is a dirty liar. This place is definitely not 2 $, but more like 3. Unless people pay $30 for a 5oz burger usually? We walked the mile and a half here because I thought seafood on the water for our last day in Seattle would be a dream. My salmon burger was nothing to write home about, but the halibut quesadilla was outstanding. My friend had a chicken chowder she said was pretty spicy, but tasty. TLDR: Perfect place for a romantic date night! The whole experience here is awesome. I came here with my girlfriend pretty late for dinner to get their bread bowl clam chowder. We were seated immediately and placed right next to a fireplace with a view of the pier. The restaurant has a very warm, romantic feel--dim lighting, smooth, soothing music in the background. They even have outdoor seating that overlooks the pier and gives you a beautiful view of the city and its lights. The bread bowl clam chowder is a little bit on the expensive side. You can get 4 different sizes of clam chowder for different prices, and the bread bowl is an extra $3. So we both ordered the 12oz clam chowder bread bowl and it came out to be about $45 total. I personally don't think that two bowls of clam chowder should cost that much, but man did it taste good. They call it the "Award Winning Clam Chowder" because it's the "3 time Seattle Chowder Cookoff Winner." The taste is perfect, just what I'm looking for when visiting Seattle. Wonderful staff, lovely view, and food was great. Our visit was marred with a shrimp that was not properly cleaned. Given the location - on a pier on the eastern shore of Lake Union - I thought this might turn out to be a tourist mess. It was certainly jammed, but BOY HOWDY did they deliver some great food and service. Crabby deviled eggs? They seemed totally chill to me. And a salad named "I can hear the ocean"? Oh, yeah - first bite, and I heard the waves washing up on the beach. Everyone who served me was the very soul of hospitality, and highly knowledgeable about the menu, and the bar offerings. What do you do when you have limited time in Seattle but you want to try all the seafood? Go to Duke's and get the lobster and shrimp chowder, along with the crab-stuffed wild salmon. ...I'd say that's a rather efficient way to check off your seafood bucket list. Although I have qualms about popular restaurants with waterfront views, Duke's definitely surpassed my expectations for food and ambiance. There is not one, but *four* varieties of chowder that range from your traditional New England style clam chicken to a racy "ragin'" Cajun chicken corn chowder. I also like the flexibility with the options to order 2oz samplers or larger cups/bowls, as well as the slight discount for ordering a set of samplers (adorably named single/double/triple/quad dinghy). To start, I received a complimentary sourdough bread basket, and it was excellent--warm, toasty, crispy fresh bread.I had to make sure I didn't eat it all before my chowder arrived. After much contemplation, I got the LOBSTER MOBSTER PERNOD CHOWDER ($3.90/2oz). It was just the right balance of creaminess, with interesting new dimensions from the incorporation of sweet potatoes. The amount of lobster chunks and baby Langostinos (shrimp) was also quite generous, especially in a 2-oz dinghy. My entree was the DUNGENESS CRABBY SALMON AU GRATIN ($35), which arrived on a cute fish-shaped plate. The texture was perfect, with a crusty baked exterior, a juicy salmon filet, and lots of fresh crab. The cheese wasn't overwhelming, and the honey mustard aioli and crispy bacon paired well with the salmon. The (organic!) baby red potatoes were a delicious and classic accompaniment. They really pay a lot of attention to detail to create the nautical ambiance--there are ropes suspended on one side of the booths, and everything from the tables to the plates to the clothes have a blue checkered motif. Note: The entrance of the restaurant is a bit difficult to find, but if you keep wandering in the area and perhaps ask the people staffing boat rides, you can make it to this wonderful seafood oasis. read more

The citrus shrimp came with a spicy avocado salad. Perfect! We also tried the clam chowder. It had excellent flavors with chunks of clams. I had the stuffed shrimp. Delicious. Finally got a chance to try Dukes. We spend a day or two in Seattle every year and this year we hung out in the south Lake Union area (Museum of Science and Industry, Wooden Boat Center etc) so it was time to try it. The pros: lovely location, beautiful views of the lake (so many sailboats!), good service and some of the best sourdough bread ever. Calamari appetizer was also great. Cons: the rest of the food wasn't stellar. My stuffed shrimp was good but my husband's stuffed salmon was very overcooked. Even in these tough times, Duke's delivered a wonderful night as we dined in the restaurant. These poor servers are woking their butts off so it'll be nice when they can get a little more help in. Wife good combo of fish taco Cajun chicken chowder and comes with homemade chips and amazing green salsa. My son got the cheese burger and fried. He loved it. The beef juicy. The fries are large size cut with skin on. We tried the berry pie topped with scoop of ice cream. That is a large size dessert that we all shared. I'm going to preface this by saying that I've only been here once, but judging by the quality of the chefs, and the food that we received, I'm going to go ahead and make a rare "first time visiting" judgment, since I was here with family and we all mostly agreed on the food quality. The sourdough bread was quite pleasant, as was the butter that came with it. We got almost three baskets full of bread, since we liked it so much. I had the fish. It was a tad overcooked, and the wedges were not nearly as good as I had hoped (I got all default things because I wanted to be safe, since I was told I might have to be careful with an allergy). My cousin had the filet. She asked for "rare", but she received an almost severely undercooked steak (think blue, but worse cooked). Some areas were seared, but nowhere close to being "rare". The sweet potato fries seemed decent, from what she told me. My aunt had the skewers and the crab cakes. She mentioned that the crab cakes were pretty awesome, and that the shrimps were of a relatively decent size, but wasn't sure about the food proportions for value. Considering how expensive the meal was, we tried to use a coupon, but that was entirely negated; the server "tried to help us", "and was able to get the table free desserts" (but my aunt and cousin were too full from eating, and I was only able to safely eat the sorbet, which I ended up getting). Eeh, the sorbet was way too sweet, I didn't even finish it despite it being free (as a recent college grad, I took nothing for granted - free things always seemed to taste the best - not this time!). All in all, "meh". I likely will not return because the food-for-value principle is pretty badly disproportionate towards the "expensive and not worth it for the quality", making it feel as if the price you're paying is really for the ability to look at the vast waters in the background, or the massive 85" yacht that blocks out most of the harbour in front of the restaurant dock. read more

Duke's Seafood & Chowder House consistently rates as one of the best places for chowder in the Seattle area, and I have to agree. Their waterfront bar and restaurant is on the southeastern shore of Lake Union near downtown Seattle. Paid parking is available nearby. This is a great place, if only slightly irreverent. The menu is classic chowder house with lots of soups, sandwiches, fried and not fried seafood, and lots of good drink options. The interior has a library bar feel with lots of large windows facing the water. Outdoor seating is available in good weather. I chose the chowder sampler with all four options. Their menu includes the Classic Clam Chowder, Red Seafood Chowder, Cajun Chicken and Corn Chowder, and the Lobster Pernod Chowder. I also had a small, but great prawn cocktail with a large flavored prawn and peeled crab leg in cocktail sauce. The Clam was really good with a great flavor and texture The Lobster was also really good with a silky smooth flavor and feel. The Cajun chicken was surprisingly spicy, but the seafood chowder was only decent albeit packed with fish. Lunch was served with hot and fresh sourdough bread, but the butter was too cold right out of the cooler. This is one of the better places I've been to in the area for chowder and is much easier to handle than those near Pike Place. It's also close to the Museum of History & Industry making for a great combo. read more

The restaurant sits right next to the lake. The view from the window was gorgeous. The menu prices fall on the more expensive side. Rockfish tacos were a refreshing, costal fish taco. The mango salsa brought a level of sweetness to the taco that was flavorful in my mouth. The taco was big! Not a street taco size at all (maybe equivalent to 2-3 street tacos). I was super hungry so I was able To finish the 2 tacos plate. Now the Clam chowder was amazing. Full of clam meat and bacon bits! The creamy soup was so comforting and best believe I ate it with the house sourdough bread! Con: My biggest draw back was the pricing. The small bowl of chowder was 12.99! I feel like you definitely pay for the views of the lake. Not entirely sure if I would eat here often. But the environment was a good experience. We were delighted to find out that Mondays are half price wine bottle day and so we enjoyed a bottle of Prosecco with our meal. The award winning clam chowder was fabulous as always. I ordered the dinghy size (smallest) and it was almost like a clam chowder tasting. It was perfect for me, but if you're expecting a cup size or larger - don't get the dinghy. Their sourdough is so worth splurging on. My husband and I each started with the bacon wrapped scallop and bacon wrapped prawn appetizer. Delicious! I ordered the caesar salad and topped with shrimp. The shrimp were perfectly pan seared and coated in buttery seasoned goodness. The caesar itself was a little lack luster. My husband ordered fish & chips and they were expertly prepared. The outdoor seating views of the lake union are breathtaking at sunset. The Duke's famous Bloody Mary lives up to its name, and is honestly of the best I've had in Seattle! Their traditional clam chowder is absolutely delicious and packed with flavor! Their fish and chips (pretty standard) are panko crusted, so a little different from a traditional beer batter. They tend to have some special items that are not listed on the menu (always ask). Ordered takeout in the time of COVID (hopefully the 19 is implied). The burger came completely disassembled (onions, lettuce, sauces, patty, bun). The beef was cooked very well and managed to maintain the requested medium-rare consistency despite delivery. The sauce was pretty good and the burger was quite tasty overall. The highlight of the meal was the fries. I'm generally not a fan of wedge fries because they tend to be very soggy on the outside and too starchy on the inside. Duke's wedge fries were perfectly crispy on the outside, and incredibly creamy on the inside. I didn't know wedge fries could be that good and even it's even crazier that they maintained that consistency during delivery. They also reheated very well (warm, then toast). I heard the crab cake, scallops were also pretty good. The fish and chips didn't reheat well, and I didn't manage to taste it fresh so I can't really comment on that. read more
