I live literally across the street, so I'm here a couple times a week. Because there are so many tables, there is never a wait, and the English and Mandarin speaking staff is pretty friendly. The dumplings however are thick skinned and overall not very good. I've had several types of their dumplings, and this applies to all of them. Gourmet Dumpling House in Chinatown is MUCH better. Their stir fried dishes are also very oily, even if you ask for less oil. Lastly, they close at 10pm, so this is not the place for late night takeout! read more

Picture a cumulus cloud, fill it with spinach and eggs, then flip the cloud into a pan and fry on one side. Pinch the delicate chewy top with your chopsticks and dip it into soy sauce, then chili oil. Lower the dumpling into your mouth. The pan fried dumplings are as good as people say; I didn't even know a chewy texture that good existed. I also ordered the Taiwan-style tofu - the waiter told me it sucked, but I waded in anyway (he said he doesn't like fried tofu so I figured it was a preference thing). What a hateful error! That shit was terrible - I have so many regrets. As I was working through the dish, trying and failing to pretend like I wasn't devastated, I started taking shots of the superb lychee sake, trying to forget my predicament. Before I could forget, I found a little piece of chicken in my tofu dish! I am a vegetarian, and immediately saw the promise of this lil chicken bit becoming the star of the show! With one piece of tofu left, I called the waiter over and gestured at the bird. He poked it with chopsticks, as my friend had, realizing it was indeed flesh. Then his boss came, she too doubted us, poked the bit, and confirmed that it was as bad as they feared, and as good as I hoped, they replaced the dish with the dumplings I should have ordered all along! The chicken stole the day, and I learned my lesson. Order dumplings at dumpling house, and you'll give a five star yelp review. I've never come here with a group smaller than 8 people, so I've always made reservations. They do a pretty good job of getting your party seated at your reservation time and there's always a line so if you can, make a reservation or come on the earlier end. Decent service (by Chinese restaurant standards so I guess not great by any other restaurant standards...it's all part of the authentic experience) and solid, authentic food. I love the soup dumplings (as others have noted, the skin can be a bit thick, but it's still juicy and delicious)! The string beans, eggplant, and all the vegetables are delicious, albeit a tad oily (like most Chinese restaurants). Great proteins too, including not too spicy mapo tofu and fantastic spicy fish. Whatever Chinese food you're craving, they'll probably have on their very extensive menu. Great way to get that Chinese food kick in at good prices. This place is a solid 4 stars. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and had no problem getting a table for five. We got the spicy salt and pepper tofu, soup dumplings, cumin lamb, wok fried chicken, sliced fish Sichuan style and the basil eggplant. We liked everything except the cumin lamb (which was like lamb schnitzel with a bunch of chilli peppers thrown in). The wok chicken , spicy salt and pepper tofu and the sliced fish are some of the best dishes here. Overall, after much trial error this set of dishes (minus the cumin lamb) is probably the most delicious meal I've had here. We did ask for everything to be made extra spicy. We should perhaps have asked more emphatically because nothing was really super spicy but still very good. Also, I would say the cumin lamb, 3 cup chicken (too sweet) and the okra dishes (gooey) are a hard pass here. Overall this place has friendly service, very reasonable prices. The food does tend to be on the greasier side (relative to Shanghai fresh for example) but still good if you order the right things. No frills authentic Chinese food with actually decent service (that's rare in Chinatown)! You will probably see a line out the door, especially around din time, but the restaurant is big so you probably won't have to wait that long. And shockingly, this is one of the most group-friendly places in all of Boston. However, don't think you can take your time eating, they really try to get you in and out (full). Crazy huge menu, they have Szechuan dishes, amazing dumplings of all types, Wok fried noodle dishes, seafood, meat and noodle entrees, on top of tons of appetizers. Among the billions of options, you must get some sort of dumpling dish, and the wonton! These was so fresh and flavorful! The dumplings, in particular, are the highlight, I mean, this is the Dumpling House after all. The fact that this place can even be called Chinese food is shameful. My friend was visiting and we decided to try out this place since it was close by and pretty cheap. Should have checked Yelp before hand because our food was straight up bad. We had no issues with the service or getting seated and I had passed by numerous times and seen this place packed. What a disappointment. My friend and I ordered steamed mushroom buns, wonton noodle soup and stir fried rice noodles with veggies. The buns were good, but unexciting, likely could have purchased them frozen at a grocery store. The wonton noodle soup was not up to snuff for me. Firstly the soup was essentially water and more importantly the noodles were all sorts of wrong. There's a type of noodle called wonton noodle and what we got here tasted like the stuff that's often labelled lo mein. The stir fried rice noodles were thin rice noodles and had something super off about them. I wasn't able to get tofu with it, but the waiter didn't let me know until the food had already arrived. If I had known that I wasn't going to get tofu with my noodles I would have ordered something different! Maybe the dumplings are okay, but all the items I tried made we want to have gone home and microwaved a frozen meal instead. read more

I've been here twice when visiting friends in Cambridge and I can honestly say that I am very satisfied with the pork soup dumplings. I have had authentic xiao long bao in Shanghai and while nothing can measure up to the real deal, these soup dumplings are incredibly tasty as well as affordable. Yeah....this place is great. From the dumplings to the entrees, everything I've had here has been top notch. I had the seafood dumplings on a recent visit, followed by the pork and shrimp soup dumplings (how do they get soup inside dumplings?!) which were both fabulous. They have a huge menu here, one could try a different dish every time and have years' worth of visits to look forward to. But my fave was the dry spicy Szechuan chicken: spicy and crispy, with a nice tangy flavor. They aren't stingy with the Szechuan peppercorns! I LOVE this place. Everything I've had here was super flavorful and not at all greasy. The soup dumplings are a necessity, and they're done pretty well. They won't explode before you get them in the spoon, and they're full of delicious porky flavor and an amazing broth. You must dip it into the sauce with ginger, soy, and vinegar. We also got the shandong pan fried dumplings, which had a ton of delicious filling and nicely chewy and substantial wrapper. Other favorites are the dried bean curd with peppers (spicy if you keep eating the peppers but also unfortunately addicting af), the Szechuan style sliced fish, and cumin lamb. If you're looking for really delicious and not ultra-Americanized Chinese food, this is the spot. read more

It's a good alternative to some of the other Chinese places in the area, as the food here is higher quality. Some of the hits included Szechuan fish and of course the xiao long bao's (juicy pork stuffed soup dumplings). I usually go with a group of 5-8, and we always order these two items as well as the eggplant dish (nüxiangqiezi), any fried pork disk, and a chicken dish. Anywayyy, I was scrolling through DoorDash and Dumpling House popped up. I was impressed by the variety of options on their menu and decided to give them a shot. My favorite item on the menu is the mini soup steamed dumplings. Seriously, order these immediately (like, now). I've also had their wonton soup and sesame chicken and would recommend those as well.
