I imagine the food is much better in person. I ordered the soup dumplings and the crispy spicy sichuan chicken through postmates.The chicken had really good flavor but the overcooked chicken pieces made me think they had given me fried erasers on accident, I had to throw it out. But perhaps that's what's insinuated when they say its 'dried' fried chicken? had a chew like fried jerky. The soup noodles were pretty good, better than what I would generally expect in boston, about what I would expect for the price. The food was promising enough to make me curious about their other dishes, but I wish they had actual descriptions of their dishes somewhere to make it easier to choose what to order. read more

I had a hard time to categorize this place. It is definitely not authentic Chinese food, maybe fusion at most..... We ordered beijing pork dumpling since this place is called dumpling house. First time to get takeout here on Sunday. The new chicken with mixed vegetables was delicious and not just the usual suspects, e.g., onion, celery, carrots, but baby bok choy , mushrooms, broccoli, and an usual crunchy sliced veg that was unknown to me but a great addition. Dumpling House is the best restaurant in Cambridge, actually in the Boston area, actually in the world. As a college student in search of good, affordable food Dumpling House is perfect. The service is wonderful and fast, and the food is just absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the spinach and egg dumplings and the crispy fried tofu. BEST PLACE EVER. Serious issues with the food, but I am not going to give it 1 star, because I have had their food before Pandemic and it was awesome. I ordered from Dumpling House on April 11th 2020, here's my order: A12. Spicy Salt and Pepper Tofu: This was one of my favorite things from Dumpling House in Cambridge, it usually is slightly pan-fried with a little breading tofu with a generous flavoring of salt/pepper. However, the tofu tasted a bit off and did not have the same texture as I am accustomed. It's still okay, but far from normal quality. A21. Crispy Fried Pork Intestines I do not know what other reviewers are talking about on Yelp at praising the fried Pork Intestines. The dish I ordered and received on April 11th was woefully under-cooked. I do not know what happened in your kitchen, but please be very careful, tripe and intestine cannot be served under-cooked. Trying to force faster cook with frying technique may make outer layer appear crispy, but there are eaters of Chinese descent, who knows what fried pork intestine are and if it is cooked thoroughly. There were semi-raw pieces mixed in to your dish. E19. Sauteed String Beans with Spicy minced Pork The string beans were overly seasoned, which is a shame, because I thought you had done a good job at wok cooking overall if not for the seasoning. A22. Fried Chicken Wings This is my first time trying your fried chicken wings, I usually do not eat this, but I had a family member who prefers American styled foods. As a chicken wing, it was delicious and well seasoned. For non-Chinese eaters, I highly recommend chicken wings. G12. Braised Eggplant with Basil This is a traditional Chinese dish, but again, the seasoning was off. Also, the eggplant was under-cooked, so it left several pieces hard and several pieces were soft upon eating E12. Twice Cooked Pork The Twice cooked pork was a big let down, there was no wok flavor on what amount to the Chinese version of "bacon and pepper". I did some research for soup dumplings and this is one of the top rated places and I see why. My wife and I have been eager to try soup dumplings for sometime now and while on vacation in Boston ma we said to ourselves why not give it a try. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food was great we ordered soup dumplings, scallion pancake, and chicken wings everything came out less than 15 min and we had a great time. Enjoyed my first time here! Despite being with a very, VERY large group, the service was still great. The food came out fast, which is really a big feat because we were tackling the dishes with record speed. The dishes were so good we ordered seconds of almost everything. Some of them did leave a bit to be desired, but for the most part, I had absolutely no complaints. We got the green tea mochi ice cream for dessert--which was good, but it was very obviously the frozen, supermarket ones. First time to D.H. Food ordered-various dumplings and chicken wings all very good. What's got me writing a review is the wait staff service. We sat for over 15 minutes waiting for the waiter to come to our table ( restaurant was not busy). Not courteous, friendly or welcoming. Each dish that was delivered to our table was dropped off by different waitresses, not a smile to be had by any. When guests come to your establishment, part of the dining experience includes the service. It's not appealing to be treated so poorly by so many disgruntled employees. read more

I heard a lot of good reviews about this place which is why I swung by here twice during my stay in Cambridge. The place was jam packed all the time, but the servers were really nice and were able to seat me almost immediately after I had walked in. I tried the Shanghai soup dumplings, sizzling beef on a hot plate, and the Szechuan Sliced Fish. The texture of the dumplings was really silky, the meat was really fresh, and the servings were incredibly generous compared to what I normally get at Cha Chan Tengs. I was slightly disappointed that there was not enough flavor in the broth, but otherwise it was still good. The beef plate and the fish would've been perfect except they were a bit too salty and oily respectively. The plus is that it is within walking distance of Harvard Square and relatively close to MIT. I have to say, Dumpling House is probably the best non-Cantonese Chinese restaurant in town. Their Sichuanese dishes are so authentic and delicious - really way better than Grand Sichuan, Sichuan garden, and the old thailand cafe on Mass Ave. We tried lots of dishes on Friday Appetizer 1. 夫妻肺片 Spicy beef tendon with chili sauce: Delicious. Very authentic sauce and perfect texture of beef. Dry style. 2. 麻辣耳丝 Chilled spicy pig ear: Delicious as well. We did half/half for this and 夫妻肺片Spicy beef tendon with chili sauce. Absolutely delicious 3, 蒜泥白切肉 Steamed bacon with fresh garlic: arguably the BEST dish we order. So tasty. It's chilled, nicely cooked and sliced. A MUST try. 4. 臭豆腐 Stinky tofu: very good. My husband commended that it's better than the ones he had in China 5. 小笼包 Mini soup dumplings with pork: One of the best in Boston. Better than Shanghai gate and Changsho, which I think are pretty good already 6. 韭菜盒子 Vegetable leek pie: Average. Can be saltier 7. 山东煎饺 Shangdong style pan fried dumplings: Average, nothing particular 8. 金黄土豆饼 Potato Pancake (typo in their menu as "tomato pancake" :-) Not bad 9. 北方炸酱面 Minced pork with noodles Northern Chinese style: Average. One of my most favorite dishes in China. Good quantity also - lots of frog in it. Very delicious! 2. 九层塔海瓜子 Baby clams with basil: very good. Also good quantity! 3. 羊肉串 Northern Chinese style lamb teriyaki: Average. I think the ones in Little Lamb is better 4. 清炒空心菜 Sauteed Chinese watercress with garlic: Excellent! Really delicious. Much better than the ones from Mulan Really top Chinatown quality food in non-Chinatown area! I have recommended this place to multiple of my Chinese friends, who also tried this restaurant this weekend. Unanimously, extremely positive comments. We have decided that this is going to be our get together place going forward. My home is right at the corner of where Mulan is. I have to say, although Mulan is not bad, the dishes are not as delicately and authentically made as in Dumpling house. Unfortunately, they don't deliver at the moment. We took their take out menu home, and expect to order from them a lot. So happy we have Dumpling House in Cambridge now. Went here @ 3pm on a Saturday. Including my girlfriend and I, the place was about 4% full. Staff acted as if I just shit in their faces by coming in to eat -- angrily tossing menus on the table w/zero eye contact. Sorry for showing up. Spring rolls were frozen on inside...one bite and sent back. Veggie dumplings were ok, but not like Chinatown GDH. Veggie noodle dish lacked veggies but not oil or bean sprouts. Have been here quite a few times. Food is great, and I have been to enough Chinese restaurants to not have high expectations on the service. But what they did this evening was flat out rude. Three of us were waiting for our table. Friday dinner time, busy, understood. I mean, the wait wasn't even long. This woman called our number (37), while a group of five (white, professionals while we were three Asian students. Yes I can get this pretty ugly if I want to) showed up at the same time but they were number 27. She asked how many people were in their party and gave away our table, right in front of us, no apologies whatsoever. Didn't even hesitate. I had to show her our number to remind her that we were still there waiting for a table. Three staff at the front desk, and no body uttered a word. Visited twice with different group of friends as company. Central square dumpling house is FAKE ! Nothing is really good, even weird. anything there you can find a better one in other Chinese restaurants. The only thing nice there is the menu, but they use pictures from Internet, none of the food looks like the pictures in their menu. we ordered 3-cups chicken, the chicken was stinky! the other food are GREASY, SMALL portion, the buns are bad, they don't seem to know how to make yeasted dough. I even think they use the frozen soup dumplings none of the food is close to authentic, except Shandong food, because the owner is from there. no sichuan pepper corn in sichuan food, 3cups of chicken, they are 'Proudly' to use ketchup' , FuQi FeiPian is nothing like what in the pic in the menu (A1) in the pic, the lamb skewers are 4, but actually only 2 each order. Let's start with the good: the food is generally great, the take-out is easy, and the menu has a ton of options. I've been coming to Dumpling House for five years and will probably keep ordering from them, but the prices have gone WAY UP, more than I would have expected. Now, the bad: The Mango Chicken dish is now close to $20 and I remember when it was closer to $15. That adds up over time and the size of the dish itself is certainly not reflective of the $20 value. Sometimes it's overcooked as well, although not always. This place needs to lower its prices or offer larger portions. $20 for one dish is far too expensive for Central Square. read more

I normally don't stray from my Chinatown-only dumpling policy, but I was taken to Dumpling House by a friend and I was surprised at the quality of the food. We had the soup dumplings, another steamed pork dumpling, the scallion pancake and a pan-fried noodle dish. They were all really good, but noticeably salty. I had an MSG headache all the next day. The service, however, left something to be desired. We waited for our number to be called and when it was, another group jumped in ahead of us and took our table. When we tried to call them out on it, we were ignored and chastised for standing in the way. We got the next table, but it meant an additional 10 minute wait. At our table, the waitstaff in general seemed overwhelmed and annoyed. We had to ask a couple of times for water, and they barely spoke to us at all, even when we ordered. The food was pretty good but the service was TERRIBLE. They were pretty rude and tried to avoid eye contact so that they wouldn't have to help us. One employee even put her finger in my mother's face and said "wait a minute!" when my mom asked for extra napkins. They slammed the food down on the table and couldn't tell us what was in each dish (asked due to seafood and nut allergies). Hadn't tried food from Dumpling House before so decided to give them a try for delivery via Door Dash for dinner. While I ordered the sauteed rice cakes I received sauteed rice noodles instead. I knew Door Dash warns clients that replacements could happen if something was unavailable at the restaurant. However, I found their noodles to be too oily and tasteless. Yes. This is a place for soup dumplings. Some people write XLB (xiao long bao) without expanding the acronym or explaining it because there is a cult around it and people are really into their xlb. Are they the best in the world? Not certain because this has been the only place where I've had soup dumplings that the have actually lived up to their name. I, for one, enjoy them. It took me several tries to figure out the best way to eat them until the bf and I finally watched a video. The food here in general is good. Business is good so the food is always hot and fresh. That being said-you might end up waiting for a table on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. But, service is fast and people move in and out. Out of the Chinese places in the area, this one is my favorite. The space is nice, service is fast, and the food is dependably good. I'm a sucker for dumplings and while I agree that these tend to have thicker skins than dumplings elsewhere, I'm willing to say it's their style and I quite like them. I don't think there's a better Chinese place in Cambridge, and I, for one, love having this place as a neighborhood Chinese place. I've been here many times, and have never really been disappointed. I've read a number of reviews on here saying this place is loud, but really Chinese food is a pretty social activity, and it wouldn't be loud if it wasn't full. It wouldn't be full if it wasn't good. I think especially in Asian countries, this restaurant is a bit representative - you're not going to get a traditional western dining experience. The staff won't be that attentive naturally - you have to speak up. Flag them down. Yell "fuwuyuan!!". As a testament to the cultural authenticity, I recently dined here with a vegetarian, and the waitress warned me about onions and other vegetables in the vegetarian dishes that buddhists couldn't eat. As for the food, it's made in a deeply greasy fashion (fried and southern). If that's not what you're looking for, maybe this isn't really the right restaurant, as that's sort of the style. A lot of the vegetable dishes are a little less oily, but for example, the cumin lamb is made in a battered-and-fried Taiwanese/southern Chinese way, as opposed to a Henan/Xi'an kind of way that is a lot of meat sliced thinly that you may think of. You're going to get more cuts of fat in your meat, and if you love that, you'll enjoy this place. As for the dumplings, they're pretty good. Contrary to what I just said above, I think their steamed dumplings are actually much better than their fried dumplings. I've been here a couple of time and have consistently ordered one thing with some variations, so I'll just base my review on that. I usually order the pork and leek dumplings, but the last time I visited, I got the chicken and cabbage dumplings, the pork and cabbage dumplings, and the scallion pancakes. To start, I really do like their pork and leek dumplings: they are flavorful, juicy, and very delicious. Their scallion pancakes and crispy and flavorful, but a little bit too greasy. The other two dumplings, the chicken and pork and cabbage, were not that great; they were a little bland and I didn't enjoy them as much as I did the pork and leek dumplings. The place has moderate prices, especially if you come during lunch, but the dumplings are a bit pricey (t's about $7 for 7 dumplings, so not bad for the area, but it's still a bit pricey).
