I've ordered takeout/delivery from here and the food was delicious, so we decided to visit them in person for a casual dinner. Lots of seating for all group sizes. The staff is quick and efficient. We didn't wait long at all before food showed up on the table. The menu is huge, and they definitely serve more than just dumplings. We enjoyed all of the dumplings we ordered: xlb, steamed pork and chive, and fried pork baos. Be careful, the fried pork ones are really hot and juicy! We took our first bites and the juice popped everywhere lol. Soup portion was huge to share and enjoy multiple bowls of. I thought the hot and sour was a teeny bit too thick for my liking, but my boyfriend enjoyed the consistency. Really nice people, great food, quick, and also in a good location on Clement. Took a rare trip to San Francisco to hit a few businesses. I hit the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory first and then headed out to the avenues to Clement Restaurant to pick up some pastries, Ariscault Bakery, Dim Sum restaurant and grabbed lunch in the avenues at Dumpling King. I went with a friend and his wife. We ate family style and ordered Beef with string beans, chicken with asparagus, chicken chow fun and the restaurant was nice enough to make us a combination fried rice (not on the menu). The beef and chicken were tasty, good flavor and cooked just right fresh vegetables. I liked the fried rice flavor but wasn't used to lettuce in my fried rice which made it more moist than typical. I didn't try the chow fun but my friend and his wife enjoyed it. The service was attentive and the restaurant was willing make dishes not on the menu. If I'm out in the avenues again I will drop in again and try some other dishes too. For very good food, value and service drop in with friends, family or have a solo meal. read more

We visited Dumpling King on 2/17 to celebrate the Lunar New Year and were honestly just grateful they were open. The place was absolutely slammed. The energy felt festive, but be warned: it was very cold inside despite the packed dining room. A few staff members were even wearing parkas, so definitely bring a jacket if you're dining in during the winter. I went with three friends who took the lead on ordering. They give you a laminated menu, and you use a dry-erase pen to make your selections. Overall, the food was fine. We shared BBQ pork bao and several varieties of dumplings, which hit the spot for a celebratory meal. The cucumber salad turned out unexpectedly sweet, but we repurposed the sauce as a dip for our dumplings, which actually worked surprisingly well. The standout for me was the *Wor Wonton Soup*: comforting, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a chilly night. The biggest downside was the pacing. There were long gaps between dishes, and our final three dumpling plates arrived at the same time as the check. With so many "dumpling"-named spots across San Francisco (thanks to that viral article making the rounds), expectations are high. And while this Clement Street location is convenient and lively, I wouldn't call it the best dumpling destination in the city. Decent Chinese food with no frills. Service is always friendly and quick and there's typically a seat available even during the busy weekends. Menu is extensive and you just mark the items you want and hand the menu back to the wait staff. My favorite item of the night was the zhajiang mian. The noodles tasted as if they were freshly pulled and the noodles had the perfect bite. The sauce was flavorful and perfectly balanced with the freshness of the cucumbers. Usually I love a stir-fried garlic string bean but these weren't blistered enough for my liking. Could've been cooked longer. Cute, vibrant dumpling spot with a fun atmosphere, and their XLB is a must-order. We also tried the pan-fried dumplings, which were just as delicious. You know a dumpling place is legit when you can watch them making everything fresh through the window. Stopped by with my bestie while we were walking around the area looking for something to eat. We decided to give this place a try. We ordered the Shanghai soup dumplings, Garlic Pea Sprouts, Braised Eggplant (no spicy), and Cumin Lamb (no spicy). The Braised Eggplant was our favorite. It came with wood ear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, yellow and red onions, and green onions. The flavor was really good, sweet, slightly sour, and savory all at the same time. The Cumin Lamb was very tender with a light cumin flavor that didn't overpower the lamb. The Garlic Pea Sprouts were fresh and had a nice wok hei. The Shanghai soup dumplings were our least favorite. Even though they were labeled as soup dumplings, there were only a few drops of soup inside, and the pork filling didn't taste very fresh, so I wouldn't recommend that dish. Customer service was great. One small issue was that our plates kept spinning on the table while we were eating, which was a bit annoying. Their vegetarian xiao long bao is hands-down the best I've ever had--hot, soupy, flavorful, and made completely in-house. Do not leave without trying the dry-fried chicken wings. We tried Dumpling King as it is one of the restaurants open later on Clement St, and were not disappointed. We were with my nieces, who can be quite picky and difficult to please. We ordered the salmon avocado fried rice, shanghai soup dumpling, kimchi & pork soup dumpling, shrimp & scallop dumpling, pan fried chicken pot sticker, and zhajiang mian. The pan fried chicken pot stickers were also very good, with the filling having a nice meaty and chivey flavor. Surprisingly for us as we previously tried another restaurant at this same spot serving similar items and that one wasn't as good. Walked by Dumpling King while we were visiting Green Apple Books. The photos in the windows looked very appetizing and after a quick check on Yelp, we decided to eat lunch here. From the outside, it looked like it might be a hole-in-the-wall, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that it was very clean inside. The menu was two different laminated pages. We started off with the cucumber salad, which came in a cute dish, and were good. Their Shanghai soup dumplings were perfect - with a thicker wrapper, which I prefer. Chow mein was decent. The pan fried chicken potstickers had kale and corn inside, which I was not expecting - while the presentation was lovely, I should have ordered the pan fried pork buns (the photo of which caught my eye). Came here today to have lunch with my kids since we have to wait for our car to be done with Toyota. The foods wasn't bad at all but when I asked for a small box to go and the check I didn't expect there was going to be a surprise in the box. I shaked the container and I noticed a little black thing fell out onto my pants. I looked down just to see there was a small roach so I grabbed a napkin to kill it and called the waitress so she can see it. All she said was sorry and walked away. Stopped by one night to check out this 'new' dumpling spot, food was alright until the soup dumplings arrived. Staff was friendly and nice but service was slow and careless. Tables and chairs are not kept clean enough in between. Sat on two dirty tables, table stayed dirty the whole meal even when it was already mentioned. The crab xlb had none to minimal crab flavor. The dumpling's skin is too thick and the meat's quality overall was not fresh with an off-putting taste. The hot and sour soup dumpling was good, great flavor and consistency. Everything but the wontons were lacking in flavor. It was just too subtle of a flavor. More salt was needed and I'm Chinese. I don't like things too salty so that's saying a lot. The beef chow fun had a lot of bean sprouts but not enough noodles. The beef was also pretty flavorless. The wontons were the best because they had the most flavor but it was pretty mild. Soup dumplings had thick skin and minimal amount of soup. Although I did see them making them in the back so at least it's made in house. Finally, they charge 3% for credit cards. Overall decent but double check your order. I placed an order with the person at the register and ordered five all non-meat items to go (or so I thought) one onion pancake to eat there to test out as a benchmarker (not for me-I prefer a more egg crispy, less corn starchy pancake), I took his recommendation of the black sesame which was good as it was cute. It was all good. How a pork bao ended up on my order is unbeknownst to me. I'm not a 100% vegetarian but I don't eat most meats in the US so I was grossed out to realize I had ingested something foreign to my stomach and did not have a pleasant time digesting my meal. My favourite was the cumin lamb, which is a dish I always enjoy. But I found it had too little lamb and was a little too salty. The garlic noodles had great texture, but was too light on the garlic. The taro puffs were unfortunately, just bland. With that said, the service was fantastic and the restaurant was clean.
