I still haven't been to Dumpling Home, so when I ventured over to Dumpling Story, I was glad to see the line wasn't too crazy. We ordered the pan-fried soup dumplings, ginger scallion noodles, and Brussels sprouts. All three were delicious, and I was happy with the style of brussels sprouts, as I haven't ordered them from a dumpling place before. The noodles could have been a bit more ginger and scallion-y but it was good nonetheless. Probably will go to dumpling home next but will add this to the rotation. read more

The Fillmore dumpling story is a great option for dinning. The ambiance of this restaurant is nice except it can be very noisy. The service is quick and your food comes out fast and the staff are very friendly. My favorite dishes are the xiao long bao, the pan fried dumplings, and the dried fried chicken wings. I also tried the cucumbers which did not have much flavor. I do recommend coming here! read more

Better than your average dumpling restaurant in so many ways! First of all, the food was excellent! The soup dumplings were some of the best I've ever tasted. They were larger than the average dumpling, but still a perfect balance of meat, "soup", and wrapper thickness. The "Numb & Spicy" were great too, but I wish they had more peppercorn in them. I want my tongue to tingle! The service was also remarkably good. The staff were very attentive, but not intrusive. Our glasses were never empty, the food arrived with excellent timing, and dishes were cleared quickly and thoughtfully. It's been a while since I've enjoyed service this good. Didn't like the service, no one came to check on us. Never received any refills. We were given the food and forgotten about. The servers went around each table and explained how to use the sauces and best way to eat them, we didn't get any of that. read more

Dumpling story is just as good as dumpling home if not better. I really enjoyed the space and the new location. The classics like the juicy pork buns and the XLB were just as good as the original. We were super excited to try this new spot on Fillmore and it did not disappoint! A small group of us went on a Friday night and it was about a 30 minute wait which wasn't so bad. The food and service was excellent. The ambiance was light and fun. We ordered the pan-fried pork baos, braised eggplant, green beans, steamed pork xiao long baos, chicken wings, Dan Dan noodles, sesame + chili oil pork dumplings, and the napa cabbage and pork dumplings. It was difficult to pick a favorite since everything was so good, but the group favorites were the pan-fried pork baos and the chicken wings. We are so happy that Dumpling Story opened up on Fillmore and will definitely be back again! read more

We ordered the onion pancake, Two different types of soup dumplings. Brussels sprouts and braised eggplant. The only dish that was flavorful was the eggplant. Everything else was so bland. I did like their jasmine beer $13 a glass. Service and food preparation was quick. Nice staff. I would like to try again in a few months. Because I don't feel I should give up on them just yet. Came here on a Saturday night. It was packed. Which should be a good sign for quality food. But the food was just ok. Ordered their signature pork Xiaolongbao, pan fried Bao and a minced pork noodle dish. Xiaolongbao was good. Well seasoned. The pan fried bao was not good the fried part was not as crispy as other pan fried bao that I had. Minced pork noodle is up to the standard. The real reason of the two stars is the wait. We waited about 40+ mins for our whole order. We saw the lady at the bao station. She was obviously doing her best as she was the only one who was making the dumplings and what not (as far as we have noticed). We hope she is getting what she deserves. And we hope the owner sees this review and fix the issue. We understand that it's hard to find stuff after Covid. But we not waiting for almost an hour for just some soup dumplings. read more

Best xiao long bao in SF, and fast, friendly service................................... but this character minimum gets in the way!

I loved this place so much. Start with the cucumber garlic salad. It's light and refreshing and I have to have it whenever I come. Their soup dumplings are amazing, but the reason I keep coming back is the juicy bao. These are simple incredible. Everyone is super nice as well, and even if there is a wait, you can join the Yelp waitlist and get alerts on your phone so you don't need to stand around the restaurant which is super nice. The food was so good we forgot to take pictures. The menu is the same as Dumpling Home is Hayes Valley as well, so if that location is closer, you're not losing anything by going there instead. read more

I think I've had my fair share of dumplings here in the US and in Taiwan and other Asian countries, so I wasn't expecting much coming here. I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. Great flavors and food was well done. The Dan Dan noodles were soo fresh and it was obvious the noodles were made in house. Absolutely fantastic. Pan fried soup dumping was fire. Only thing is I think the bottom of the dumpling has a little too much dough. Classic steamed soup dumping was delicious too. My only gripe is that I wish there was some spice options. I grew up in a Chinese restaurant so my bar for any kind of Chinese food is very high. There are rarely ever any Chinese restaurants that I'd return to, never mind feel confident in bringing other people with me... this is one of those rare gems. Not only is the food fantastic, but the service has been really nice. I love this place and would recommend a visit to try any of their items. My favorites are the pan fried pork juicy bao, braised beef noodle soup, green beans, and pig ears. All of their recipes are super authentic. read more

This is the best soup dumpling place I've ever been to. Even the simple side of green beans was ridiculously delicious, and from the pan fried Xian Long Bao to the steamed bao, OMG. Just make sure to wait a couple minutes if you can, otherwise you'll completely exfoliate the roof of your mouth with boiling hot broth. read more

I would give Dumpling Story a 4 on taste, but a 1 on staff recommendations so I chose 2 overall. I went to Dumpling Story last night for take out and told the staff member of my planned order (half pork XLB, half chicken XLB, Numb and spicy dumplings, Pork SJB, pork and chive dumpling, egg rolls, and veggie dumpling) for 3 people. I made the mistake of asking if that was too much food and the server insisted that it wasn't enough food and recommended I increase the XLB order to full, add green beans, add brisket soup, add pork potstickers which increased my order by almost $50. I confirmed again that the order was for 3 people and they insisted that was right. Of course this was entirely too much food and I now have a fridge full of dumplings. It felt slightly like they just wanted me to order more to get their tip up. I will give them another shot, because they're close and the food was good, but I will not be taking recommendations from the staff any more. read more

While I was skeptical of the bougie atmosphere, I must say I was pretty impressed. The only thing that might disappoint is that the flavors were more mild than I am used to, especially with the xlb. However, the amount of broth inside was just stellar. The texture and stability of those xlb was perfect. The pan fried were way chewier than I would have imagined, but as a result they also still had a lot of broth inside. I assume they really over mix that dough to get more gluten so the broth isn't absorbed. Maybe I'd prefer a crispier texture. Still... the quality was quite good. Also it felt nicer taking my old mom than to the usual hole in the wall places I'd normally go. Wish I could do 4.5. read more

A friend recommended this place to me when i was in the city and craving dumplings! Came on a Saturday night and had to wait about 30-45 minutes to get a table for 3! The interior looked aesthetic but the place itself was small and felt a little cramped. Our table got the numb & spicy pork xlb, crab and pork xlb, juicy chicken bao, juicy pork bao and the dumplings with sesame and red chili oil. The food was pretty good and definitely very filling. Our least favorite was the dumplings with sesame and red chili oil. It was very underwhelming and the oil overpowered the rest of the flavors. Would not get that dish again. The rest of the items were pretty enjoyable tho. Would come back here but only if there isn't a long wait! read more

I've had dumpling story twice in a week so clearly I'm a fan. Everything has been so flavorful - my favorite is the spicy pork XLB. The broth is delicious!
