Overall, it was really good! I definitely recommend ordering this. However, I was disappointed in the cold bread rolls. Maybe in Romanian culture they eat their dip with cold rolls, but it would have been nice if they were warmed up. -Skinless sausages/mititei: This dish comes with 3 sausages and a side of french fries. You're supposed to dip the sausages in mustard, a combination that I wasn't used to. The sausages were a little too salty for my taste. Fries were good tho! -Lamb pastrami: This dish comes with marinated lamb and cornmeal. The lamb was good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the cornmeal. 4 stars because the service was excellent and the wait staff were warm and friendly. read more

Absolutely delicious and authentic Romanian and Hungarian food. We came with friends who are from Romania so they knew exactly what to order. If you like tripe, start with a bowl of the beef tripe soup or if you're not a tripe fan, order the meatball soup. We loved everything we tried and the dishes just kept coming - from the stuffed cabbage rolls and stuffed grape leaves, to the smoked meats and sausages. My favorites were the Mititei - skinless sausages with Romanian spices and also the Schnitzel. The service was so friendly and warm, and I'm sure it didn't hurt that our friends spoke Romanian! TLDR: Order the Lamb Pastrami "Pastrama de Miel). Its a char grilled lamb steak seasoned and cooked perfectly. My family is Eastern European, so this cuisine is familiar to me. There is nothing here that would be unrecognizable to someone who hasnt had it before. The restaurant is clean and spacious, and there is a small stage where they occasionally do live music (some of which is Romanian, sounds cool!) We had: Beef Tripe Soup - very tender and flavorful, more tender than the tripe you would get in a bowl of Pho Kaskaval Pane - fried mild cheese, cannot go wrong Mamaliguta - a side of thicker polenta with sour cream and shredded cheese. Very good, but the entrees can also be had with mamaliguta (essentially a thicker polenta) Beef Stroganoff - very good, with generous mushrooms, and a very interesting red cream sauce (more flavorful than the traditional white/grey cream sauce you see with stroganoff) Pastrama de Miel - "Pastrami" makes it sound like its a sliced / cold cut, but its not. This is a perfectly flame grilled lamb steak, boneless and expertly trimmed free of gristle. The meat was so well seasoned, so tender and flavorful, that we wished we had gotten a second order. This was my first time trying Romanian food, and I wasn't too sure what to expect. I love sausages and all kinds of meats, so I naturally gravitated to the skinless sausages/mititiei plate. Upon arrival, I must say that they are rather hard to find. They are located towards the back of a strip mall area, where DK Donuts is. Parking is readily available in front of the restaurant. I went there for lunch and was the first one there. They open at 11:30am, and by the time I left (about an hour later), I don't believe that any other customers arrived. The waitress was very friendly and asked if it was my first time there, etc. She took my order, and then came back with water, bread and soup. The soup was very tasty, but it reminded me of minestrone soup. After the soup, it took about 25 minutes before my entree arrived. I had ordered the skinless sausages with fries. Not sure why that took so long to make, especially since I was the only customer there. I'm giving them 3 stars primarily because of the unusual wait. The sausages itself were good, but not out of this world. And the fries were extremely greasy. You could literally see the grease on the fries. The restaurant itself seemed semi-clean. It's not in the best neighborhood to begin with. They played very strange, somewhat loud music that did not seem to match their theme. Overall, there is no particular reason why I'd return. I went there out of curiosity to try some new cuisine, but left there unimpressed. The best part of the experience was the service, which was very friendly and customer-service oriented. read more

There was a Romanian girl that I used to work with and we came here for her farewell about 8 years ago. Back then, I remember the eggplant tomato spread (Zacusca) was very tasty and everything else was a blur. Yesterday I came with my fiance (Bryan W) and my co-workers to celebrate my early birthday. The place was nicely tucked away near Love Letter (Korean pizza place). After all of my party sat down, we were served with a very generous amount of bread. I got the eggplant tomato spread (Zacusca) to go with the bread. It was tasty! Most of us got the Dobrogeana (chicken and pork), Mixed Kabobs and Beef Gulas. Beside the soup or salad and the egg with the feta cheese, the main entree was very hard to swallow because it was very dry. I think most of us were hungry and granted each of the entree is around $14.99 for it so we just sucked it up and finished the food. I have a love of Romania and try to visit yearly, but when I'm really feeling "homesick", I can go to Dunarea and get some wonderful, authentic food and a Romanian beer! Recently, with the covid19 scare, I ordered to go and drove up from Irvine to pick it up. The gentleman I spoke to told me to check their specials next time, for they had just make stuffed peppers. I came to this place with a bunch of co-workers that were craving Schnitzel. The owner came to greet us which it was kind of nice. She stated that everything is made fresh in house with old family recipes. Including the sausages. We could actually hear the chicken breast being flatten in the kitchen for my chicken schnitzel. Had a great lunch here today. We had the icre and eggplant appetizers, which were very good. We then had the stuffed cabbage with mamaliga (corn meal) entree. I loved the mamaliga, but was not a fan of the stuffed cabbage. To be fair, I've been used to cabbage stuffed with beef rather than pork, which was the way my Romanian grandmother used make it. She cooked for me all the time and was a gourmet cook, with members of the Chicago Romanian community eating at her house all the time. So the bar was set very high for this restaurant. Grew up on this food, Sunday dinner at grandmas so was hoping for something at least close to that. The tomato cucumber salad is good. Not overdressed, you can taste the cucumber and tomato. Onions weren't overpowering, I like this. Light and refreshing. Had the beef gulas. It was ok. Probably wouldn't order it again but I'm comparing it to the memory of my grandma's cooking so probably unfair, but it was ok. Had a glass of the Romanian Pinot noir. DON'T ORDER THIS! Sorry to say, it was undrinkable. Still gives me the willies. The waitress asked if I wanted dessert, so I said sure, and she brought a Romanian dessert that was delicious. A heavy creamy topper with an aromatic cherry sauce on a sweet pastry. Yum. Not heavy. Don't know what it is called but it is really good. Will give the place another try, thinking the stuffed cabbage sounds good. Maybe come early and get some Turkish coffee. The service is good. The salad and dessert were very good. Love Love Love! Just came here last night with a girlfriend...the food was wonderful, the service perfect, and the wine...probably some of the best stuff I've ever had. I wanted to get a bottle to go, but was worried that they'd view me as an alcoholic. Everything looked soo good on the menu so we ordered A LOT of food for just the two of us. I wanted both the cabbage rolls and skinless sausage so I ordered both. That's what take out boxes are for, right? Anyways, the owner (well, I think he was the owner) came out after our appetizers and told us that was too much food for us and that he'll just do 1/2 portions of each. How nice! It was like a sampler platter of exactly what I wanted. So for the appetizers we had the Zacusca and the cornmeal with feta and sour cream. Both were AMAZING. The zacusca was so well flavored and kind of reminded me of hummus but way better. The feta was sooo good. It seemed not as pungent and therefore I could eat a ton of it. Then the owner brought us the cavier spread on the house! DUUUDE...that stuff was amazing. My mouth's watering just by thinking about it. For the main courses we ordered the Dobrogeana, the cabbage rolls and the skinless sausage. It came with a beef soup that comes with sour cream to add. The soup was really flavorful and the sour cream made it so yummy. The food was absolutely delicious and very comforting. Absolutely no complaints. Everything was washed down with some of the best wine I've ever had. Pretty sweet, but that's how I like my wine. I tried both the Tamaioasa Romaneasca and Busuioaca de Bohotin. Both really good. We then finished our meal with a donut like dessert that came with strawberry jam. It might sound sweet, but the dough wasn't at all. Really done well. The service was wonderful too. Our waitress was the cutest thing ever and I love how she spoke. She was incredibly helpful in choosing dishes especially because we both have never tried Romanian food before. The owner would check up on us too which I really appreciated. Will definitely be making another trip again...and soon! read more

Admittedly, I am Romanian born. It may seem I'm coming across biased. Hear me out! I left the country 29 years ago and yearn for traditional Romanian cooking. This place offers it! I visit Romania every other year as I still have family in the motherland. This restaurant offers a beautiful selection of meals. The cuisine is authentic to it's particular region. It's clean, a little dark but the ambience is flattering and on specific evenings they have live music. E P I C! Gasp, every Romanian will condemn me for saying this. I do not like vinete nor icre. Yelp has brought some wonderful food and people into my life. Case in point, my buds, Gabe and Roxy P, who recently introduced me to this restaurant, Dunrea. I was eager to try Romanian food, so my friends, who hail from Romania were kind to bring us to this restaurant known for Romanian and European dishes. Housed in a nondescript, small shopping center in Anaheim, one would not notice this driving down Euclid Ave as this place is nestled in the back of this older center. We met when they opened on a weekday at 6:30 p.m. Our server asked us where we wanted to sit. As we were the first ones in, we had choice of the entire, fairly large restaurant. We picked a table on the side. We started by ordering a bottle of Romanian wine. This was traditional and a sweet white wine. I enjoyed it very much as I am a fan of this type of wine. Be aware that it is definitely on the sweet side. As I have never had Romanian food ever, I asked my friends pick some traditional Romanian foods out. We started with a Dunarea side salad which was like a house salad with a kind of oil and vinegar type of dressing. We also got two traditional appetizers. We ordered the Mixed Vegetable Spread that was a dip served with bread. This was delicious and I could detect the eggplant in this which I loved. We also got the Boeuf Salad, a traditional potato salad mixed with chicken and other vegetables. I enjoyed this as this was more savory than sweet type of potato salad. They asked our server if a sampler plate could be me of several dishes which she agreed to. This was a perfect way to try different dishes without having to order full entrees and so nicely presented. On this plate, there was Dunarea Schnitzel, Mashed Potatoes, Romanian Pork Feast, Skinless Sausage, Fries, Pickled Salad, Polenta and Stuffed Cabbage Rolls. Everything was tasty on this large sampler plate, but my absolute favorites were the Dunarea Schnitzel and Stuffed Cabbage Rolls. I learned that a lot of traditional Romanian foods were similar to other dishes I have tried in the past. The Dunarea Schnitzel was fried and breaded pork loin. I have enjoyed schnitzel in the past when I have gone out for German food and this was reminiscent of this. The Stuffed Cabbage Rolls at Dunarea were a bit different from what I have eaten here in the US. These were smaller and made of ground pork wrapped in cabbage and served with cornmeal and sour cream. They were very good. We decided to end our meal with desserts, one a traditional one of Papanasi, which was a warm cottage cheese dough with sweet sour cream and strawberry jam. This kinda reminded me of a churro or friend donut with jam. My friends said it was a little overcooked but it was good. Our other dessert ordered were Profiteroles, which I am always a fan of. Who doesn't enjoy cream puffs stuffed with ice cream and topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce?! Yum! Our server was nice, and attentive. I was glad to have our friends here ordering for us, as I think I would have had no idea where to start with their menu if I had stumbled in here on my own. So glad to have now tried Romanian food and am thankful to my friends for inviting us and aiding us with the ordering here. I will definitely be back to Dunarea to sample some more traditional Romanian and European dishes in the future. read more

I don't know what Elizabeth T is talking about, but I for one HAVE actually EATEN here and found it quite enjoyable. And last time I checked, I didn't have a penis and I still managed to have a good time. There was a large party in the restaurant when I got here so it was a bit loud but it was fun watching everyone have a great time. The restaurant is quaint and kept very clean. The service is quick and very good. Food is good and clean. We started with two appetizers: Corn meal with sour cream and Feta, and the Zacusca vegetable spread with eggplant, onions, tomato, and red bell peppers. VERY fresh and clean. The Corn meal and Feta were good too, though I'm not a fan of sour cream. Main dishes were the Mititei and the Stuffed cabbage leaves. Both were very enjoyable though the Mititei really impressed me. Though it was a bit on the salty side, I still liked the dish very much. No desserts as we were already full. Will definitely return to try more of the menu. If you go on a weekend, it'll be loud and with live music. I suggest going both once during the weekend and once during the week to give the atmosphere a fair shot. Best Sarmale in LA! Atmosphere is a little drab but the food more than makes up for it. I love this place. This is still one of my favorite places. The food is so tasty we drive over an hour to eat here. I want to try some more things on the menu, but I can't get enough of the cabbage rolls.
